The hate on the 800 seats is completely valid 🤣 i had to use them for 3hrs a day for 5 months as my commute for work (albeit in TPE) and they absolutely ruined my back! However in terms of comfort overall its between the 390 and the IC225s both are pretty comfy…if/when they turn up 🙈
I still like Voyager's, the crosscountry stock do need a refurbishment, I love the big windows on Voyager's And acceleration and noise. Having worked on Virgin trains out of Manchester (on board) i just hated it when the pendolino's were introduced. Loved working the 15.25 out of manchester as it was a HST unit. (Happy days) enjoyed you upload. 😊
for all its upsides, the problem with the ECML for me is in how relatively few people it serves compared with the WCML and even the Midland Mainline... its all very well having long straight sections for high speed running, but a lot of the route is fairly empty
Both unrefurbished and refurbished seats are really good, also the scenery on the lancaster- carslile section is really nice(no bias because I live in Cambridge)
the hate on the 800 seats is real, the over doing it come from people writing off the whole trains imo, like if they just put in a bit nicer seats theyd be great
0:02 that train is the lancashire fusilier on the polar express route, any idea where it goes? been tryna find out but cant find anything. i have a few vids of it from waverley
I'd argue about lnwr cause those dates they were still in distruption due to bad weather's their depot at Northampton was flooded completely so had less trains because their only other depot is bletchley
Avanti 390 seats are just fantastic! Came down from Manchester to London on one the other day and then travelled on to Cardiff on a GWR 800 and the downgrade was unbearably noticeable
You forgot Caledonian Sleeper! There's a reason the WCML is the backbone of Britain serving London, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool and Glasgow as well as other big hubs like Wolverhampton, Coventry and Milton Keynes.
I think both of these mainlines could do with some consolidation. The current pattern of services is just too much of a mess to prop up, but again, that is easier said than done.
The seats on the 180s are really comfortable. You should actually see what they had before the refurb (aka Hull Trains and FGW), those standard seats look a hundred times worse.
you're forgetting the GOAT11!1 The recoloured northern 150s that are cancelled half the time on my local route!1!1! they go to bletchley so its close enough!11!1
Honestly unsurprised, the WCMl from what I’ve read is way too windy/curvy. Meanwhile, the ECML has long straight stretches, why else did the Deltics, A4s, A3s, and more make such a big name for themselves for speed? They had the straight infrastructure to allow it
As a southerner on the SWML I want to say I like ECML more because the stock and livery’s are my cup of tea The 390s and LNWRs livery are cool and iv been on more servises on it so I don’t give hate but EC just has that bigger appeal so nice comparisons to both
At the end of the day, neither are as good as equivalent Inter-City services in France, Spain, Germany or Italy. That's the reality I'm afraid. The 'customer service' just isn't there with Avanti or LNER. Renfe, SNCF, DB, and Trenitalia are all better in this respect. Avanti, particularly - are dreadful.
If that ever happends 🫠 Greetings from the Netherlands where we have been thinking of adding a railway between Groningen and Lelystad for 20 years but have it canceled by our politicians every 4 years
oh this again, overall the East coast mainline wins it.. have travelled extensively on the West coast line, it's slow and overcrowded and over half the traffic is heavy suburban stopping services- compared to the East coast line, line speeds are faster - yes there's competition on the line out of kings cross, but it's faster moving
No they are not. London to Edinburgh on Azumas is very bad for circulation. I wont use them again. They are bad for me. Pendolinos are very comfortable.
Is avanti comfortable? Yeah Is avanti one of the most stupidly fucking expensive/unaffordable operators on the network? Also yeah. Is avanti reliable? HAH
The hate on the 800 seats is completely valid 🤣 i had to use them for 3hrs a day for 5 months as my commute for work (albeit in TPE) and they absolutely ruined my back!

You're hilarious but also actually insightful - a difficult combination to find here on TH-cam!
+1 sub
Banks rail
+ 2 subs
great vids always interesting and the best

3:05 oh how nice of you to put an italian railway background while talking about punctualiy, what a coincidence lol
for all its upsides, the problem with the ECML for me is in how relatively few people it serves compared with the WCML and even the Midland Mainline... its all very well having long straight sections for high speed running, but a lot of the route is fairly empty
yall lucky, in australia, the journey between our 2 largest cities takes 10 hours despite it being the same distance as london-edenborough
To be fair to the WCML, most delays are the fault of Network Rail. There's always some kind of fault on the line, or engineering being carried out
yeah like the northampton line flooding
Both unrefurbished and refurbished seats are really good, also the scenery on the lancaster- carslile section is really nice(no bias because I live in Cambridge)
ITS LONGRIDDY 🗣️🗣️🗣️👌👌👌🔥🔥🔥🥶🥶🥶
Now... do the south
I beg
*Real time trains server crying noises*
I thought male liked trains…
What about the Scotrail section of the Easter and West Coast mainline?
the hate on the 800 seats is real, the over doing it come from people writing off the whole trains imo, like if they just put in a bit nicer seats theyd be great
“I live in the east”
Throws phone away in shock
Great Video
0:02 that train is the lancashire fusilier on the polar express route, any idea where it goes? been tryna find out but cant find anything. i have a few vids of it from waverley
edinburgh suburban
@ i was wondering if it went down to north berwick, turned around and came back. you dont get off the train though so no idea.
Great video I loved it
You forgot Caledonian Sleeper! There's a reason the WCML is the backbone of Britain serving London, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool and Glasgow as well as other big hubs like Wolverhampton, Coventry and Milton Keynes.
big hubs wolverhampton, coventry lol!
uhh you picked the days where Northampton was flooding and caused MAJOR delays to the WCML
its slightly better on normal days
you should do West Highland Line VS Far North Line
I think both of these mainlines could do with some consolidation. The current pattern of services is just too much of a mess to prop up, but again, that is easier said than done.
Moved to Woking and I miss my LCN service to KGX
Very interesting video of the East Coast of USA and the East Coast of the UK. Which one is better?
The seats on the 180s are really comfortable. You should actually see what they had before the refurb (aka Hull Trains and FGW), those standard seats look a hundred times worse.
pls do south western railway
you can hear the 221s from miles away especially in north wales.
but at least in holyhead they drown out the sound of the traffic.
I remember the Class 220/221 on Virgo livery 😭
Virgin*
Try the south west all you get are Great western and cross country (well the last time I went to station there)
TFW GOATED I will always avoid avanti on the north wales coast
you're forgetting the GOAT11!1 The recoloured northern 150s that are cancelled half the time on my local route!1!1! they go to bletchley so its close enough!11!1
Sick
The azuma's seats are also in the dutch sng sprinter.
And even we think that it's bad for a regional train.
And you guys do that for 4 hours?!?
4:15 That photo of the LNER train was in York right??
yup!
LNER also crosses onto the WCML when it goes to Glasgow.
it doesn’t actually, it takes the central Scotland line through falkirk grahamston
WHAT ABOUT MIDLAND MAINLINE???
We don't just have LNWR and Avanti. We have GWR and Cross-Country too yknow
CrossCountry isn’t WCML based and GWR doesn’t go on the WCML at all
@willridestrains yes it does. I live by the WCML and I see GWR trains all the time
I’m right… You’re probably seeing stuff on the GWML, because GWR has never operated on the west coast mainline
1:59 desiro needs seat upgrade to scotrail class 156/385 seats and black seat cover with lnwr logo
The 385s were built for running services in Edinburgh to Glasgow for only Scotrail and were never built to operate services for LNWR
Yo do the West Coast against the Midland Mainline
Tsfw 158s and 150s run to Birmingham international
do the MML
will this video was so good it broke my headphones
on a serious note east on top h
ok bro
yayyy thank you aiq
ScotRail summed up please
Your main is longnidry? Mine is Musselburgh! Same lime
There’s a special role in my discord for people who live near Edinburgh lol
RIP West Midlands
i live in the west but i like both
Is this a reference to The movie Ali G because east side is tis best
still £4 for the pic on 0:54 is WILD for me when i can get 2 pasties from greggs from the same price
Ecml is being upgraded to 140mph while wcml is stuck at 125mph
It’s good being in York since you get to ride the 225 a fair bit as well
Honestly unsurprised, the WCMl from what I’ve read is way too windy/curvy. Meanwhile, the ECML has long straight stretches, why else did the Deltics, A4s, A3s, and more make such a big name for themselves for speed? They had the straight infrastructure to allow it
Because the WCML is so busy it needed a highspeed line to replace the faster services
@@apotato5563 yeah exactly tbh the reason the wcml didn’t use intercity 225 is because of the curves
The class 390s were built to run at 140 as well, but Network Rail never got round to upgrading the WCML, or so I’ve heard.
4:38 you said that the average age for the east coast was 8 instead of the west.
oops
As a southerner on the SWML I want to say I like ECML more because the stock and livery’s are my cup of tea
The 390s and LNWRs livery are cool and iv been on more servises on it so I don’t give hate but EC just has that bigger appeal so nice comparisons to both
you need to sum up the midland mainline
At the end of the day, neither are as good as equivalent Inter-City services in France, Spain, Germany or Italy. That's the reality I'm afraid.
The 'customer service' just isn't there with Avanti or LNER. Renfe, SNCF, DB, and Trenitalia are all better in this respect. Avanti, particularly - are dreadful.
I like the west coast more. Pendolino's are great. I hate the class 800's🤮
And then you got HS2 that is going to compete with the West Coast Main Line and East Coast Main Line once HS2 Phase 1 and 2 is completed.
If that ever happends 🫠
Greetings from the Netherlands where we have been thinking of adding a railway between Groningen and Lelystad for 20 years but have it canceled by our politicians every 4 years
The West is closer to me
oh this again, overall the East coast mainline wins it.. have travelled extensively on the West coast line, it's slow and overcrowded and over half the traffic is heavy suburban stopping services- compared to the East coast line, line speeds are faster - yes there's competition on the line out of kings cross, but it's faster moving
East coast for the W
But then West Mindlands is a Regional train operator not a Intercity operator.
1:49 WHAT DID YOU SAY!?! >:3
No they are not. London to Edinburgh on Azumas is very bad for circulation. I wont use them again. They are bad for me.
Pendolinos are very comfortable.
Girl, you are way too close to me 😂😂I'm in Musselburgh
I have a role on my discord for those who are around edinburgh lol
hi =)
Hi will
heyo
Great video today
Is avanti comfortable? Yeah
Is avanti one of the most stupidly fucking expensive/unaffordable operators on the network? Also yeah.
Is avanti reliable? HAH
They crippled a company that was perfectly fine, and replaced it with this. Thanks DfT
I live nere you
Neither of them
ecml is worse mate the customer service sucked for me and also screw lnwr just do WMR (btw not trying to hate video is good)
there wasn't much difference between the two lol
also customer service is never good for anything
@Trainfan24W
