Huge Marc fan, he's just the best and I always feel like I'm in the room with him when he's talking. And I love the Soundtoys plugins, been using them more and more. This was a fantastic conversation with so much inspiration and guidance about how to get more out of these tools! Thanks for the time in putting this together and to both of you for sharing so much knowledge with us! If I'm ever in LA, I promise to buy Marc a corndog. Maybe even two.
Excellent demo because i like hearing with evident clarity the distinct sonic variation at every slight dial/tweak of a plugin. Great aid in decision making. Shukran 🙏🏽👍🏽
Nice meet! Just like you Marc is a great professional and his lessons is among the greatest! His videos and the Gregory Scott, besides mixing itself, embrace important things , about how approach mixing and health care
It took me a good minute, but I found a good use for rezo type filters, and that is on say a bass guitar where certain strings/notes stand lower than others. If I set the filter up simply by the open notes for the problem strings, adjusting the rezo and filter amounts to taste and it brings out those problem notes. I appreciate the heads up on the subtle use of phazors and phase sweeps. I also like slight detune [microshifting] in certain things to bring out the life of them. I use several SoundToys plugs and have been satisfied with their quality and function. I have always been an EH fan since my first LPB 1 and 2, and I really like the Big Muff for that slight grit on bass gtr, as well as elec/Ld gtr. I went through the same conundrum being a multi-instrumentalist and an engineer for Live as well as Studio engineering. I also specialized in Live/remote recording, but it took me a bit to get myself/style out of engineering for other's styles, etc., but after a few years of it I finally got it out of my system to play with the band to put my focus completely on their style. I was in a wreck that put me out of the picture for awhile of working with others in their domain or in various studios, so I started working on my own music in my own studios, and I brought the openness of others styles/modes of playing into my own domain of songs, and it has been very beneficial in the long run to put myself out the picture for other's benefit, in helping me build my songs more correctly than before. One hand washes the other, sort of thing. Thanx for both you guy's input and output to us 'little people' and keep up the good work.
Sounds lovely. Reminds me of Dan Worrals all-pass filter modulation trick, from the end of his "headphones are not stereo" video; which may actually be a bit more transparent and flexible than this, and perhaps usable in more situations where subtlety and depth are the goal.
Note that my comment above is referring to the first section. Also, FYI the 'trick' I mentioned from Dan is intended to 'fix' LCR mixes transparently. It's just a mid-side matrix with an all-pass filter on the mid-channel only, and if the frequency is then modulated, this results in remarkable depth being added. Also note that the effect of all-pass filtering low frequencies vs high frequencies is pretty different and worth exploring.
This was cool, but could have been SO much cooler if Justin didnt constantly feel the need to feel like the smartest guy in the room - in any discussion at all. I know thats harsh but its kind of painful at times to watch
I’m not for everybody! I just genuinely like learning things and then sharing them with others. Maybe that’s a vibe kill, but I guess I’m just more interested in being helpful to the listeners than seeming cool. Perhaps that can come across as a bit pedantic at times. (Which I was a bit self conscious of here, because Marc’s definitely cooler than I am! 😆) But that’s just kind of how I am: I like to understand stuff inside and out and help others do the same. If that comes across as “trying to seem smart” or something, it is what it is. I’m not trying to seem smarter than my guest. But I am trying to have a conversation with them-repeating, clarifying, and adding to what they are saying. I’m not trying to doing straight interviews anymore. Someone with less to add can do that better than me. (And maybe I can add additional context, detail and nuance than some others. It’s a trade off.) I hope my regular listeners find the way I frame things, and the details and nuance I add helpful, and I hope that’s why they keep coming back. But I get that my style can turn some off. That probably comes to the fore when people who aren’t regular listeners stop by just to hear from the guest. So here we are. Occupational hazard I guess. Thanks for sharing your take!

Thank you for sharing your time and knowledge. I absolutely respect both of you and especially love the approach and understanding!
Thank you for hosting this, it is so important to make sounds that move. automation is great but this is also a way to make movement! 🙌🏾
This is great- I'm not a big fan of phasers but this really helps expand my horizons on how to make more use of the plugin.
Great video that captures production, sound design, genre-specific wisdom - all very nuanced.
Yeah, got the Mistress!
Stuff from Soundtoys is good through decades, aging very well.
NICE!
I love the whole Soundtoys Suite I use it in every mix! It's much easier to use now that they have the effects rack.
I love the Marc style of mixing, his musicality and great overall sound

10 cc - i m not in love. is such a great song
I heard it for the first time on Marc’s recommendation. Great track!
Primal tap is the tone of the PCM42 delay.
I believe it's a mode of the Lexicon Model 93 Prime Time Delay.
Very tasty!
Did anyone ask what reverb(s) he was using??
phase mousetress works a tiny bit better .. try it out
