Also many of my friends stopped playing , I know I can stop by the local shop and play people there , but I loved playing against my friends. We were competitive and always wanted to be better than each other.
Nahin Khan Well 95% of the old cards aren’t all that used anymore for more than a single copy per deck, the most expensive things you need to get in order to become meta competitive (unless you really want to play sky strikers) is staples like Ash Blossom (which is going to drop in price drastically in a few weeks), for example ABCs is a deck that still regularly reaches top 10s at big tournaments and the skeletal structure required is just 3 copies of the structure deck plus a couple of the staple cards to fill out other areas of the deck, quite cheap to do as long as you’re not trying to max rarity the entire deck.
Yeah I played it a lot back then till Shaddolls, Burning Abyss, and Satellar Knights ruined the game. If you didn’t have one of those decks there was no point in trying
One of my best friends growing up had a holographic 1st Edition Dark Magician Girl that I wanted for YEARS! Almost a decade later we met up and he said "Did you ever get the birthday card I sent you?" I told him it never arrived, and he said in it was the Dark Magician Girl... That was probably the most generous act a friend has ever done, and I legit still think about where it could have gone 😢
Right. This guy is full of crap. He also called the first set "Saga of Blue Eyes White Dragon", instead of Legend - why would it have a code of LOB otherwise? And the deck they put on screen as he says it is from many years later.
I think Magic also has a larger player base and the cards seem to hold their value better if kept in good condition. Wizards of the Coast also put a lot of thought into the balance and mechanics of the sets and the story, so the game plays really well in my opinion. I think that Konami hasn't done as well and that may be part of why they're cheaper - the game overall has become less desirable. Even the prices stated in the video are higher than they actually are, as many people in the comments have pointed out... many of these cards wouldn't sell for quite as much as this guy quoted...
I think the main reason is not for the bigger player base or better balance of the game. Mainly it is beacuse of power creep, old Yugioh cards are just like 10 times weaker than the new ones (or are so good to be banned). The playable ones have been reprinted, so only collectionists look for the old ones. I believe Magic doesn't reprint too old cards (correct me if I'm wrong on this, I do not play Magic a lot). Also, Magic has formats that use old cards, while Yugioh has not (at least not offical ones).
Konami reprints cards, they recently re released the first starter decks. Magic is lame because they have rules against the reprinting originals and shit. Just makes players shell out a lot of money if they want to play their old school cards.
Ok it's bothering me too much not to comment. At 5:38 he says the first ever set was SAGA of the Blue-Eyes White Dragon (SDBE) when I'm sure meant to say LEGEND of the Blue-Eyes White Dragon (LOB). SDBE was a Blue-Eyes based structure deck that came out a few years ago while LOB was the first expansion of the game back in the early 2000's. The two Dark Magicians he's showing are from two separate starter (not structure) decks that came out very early in the game. He's right when he said that there were two different artworks for Dark Magician back then, the one like the anime (purple hair) coming from the very first Starter Deck Yugi (SDY-E001), and the blonde Dark Magician which was released in LOB. However the blonde Dark Magician they have in this video isn't from LOB, otherwise it would have the set number LOB-005 under the artwork on the right. The Dark Magician they have in this video is from another starter deck that came out slighty later which had a reprint of the LOB Dark Magicians artwork called Starter Deck Yugi: Evolution, hence why its set number is SYE-001. Even if it's 1st edition, it wouldn't have nearly as much value as a LOB 1st edition Dark Magician. Such a nitpick I know, but I couldn't help but point it out.
His pricing for raigeki is also off. Starts on cardmarket for 6,50€ in poor condition and the raigeki in the video looked at least played, maybe even lightly played, don't know if it is bent or something. Edit: And he also doesn't seem to be aware, that 1.ed doesn't really matter unless you're getting into the high prices.
Still so mad at my self because I had all the awesome cards and my parents always nagged me about getting rid of them because I'm too old... so one day I threw them in the garbage when I shouldve sold them and made hundreds of dollars. That was like 1p years ago and I still cringe when I think about it
Mine worst, was a king of these games back when I was a child so I got like 2 boxes of Pokémon and these cards, and around I said 10K cards total from 2 boxes the least. My grandma decide to throw them out the garage since I stop playing them. Who know where it went..
I sold my Blue Eyes White Dragon for $200 lmao. Messaged some guy on ebay who sold his for $800 and asked what mine was worth, he said 250 at max since mine was somewhat used... So I was happy that someone wanted to buy it. It had been dusting away for a decade.
Definitely worth trying to find them. I sold all my old Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokémon cards for just over $400, with only one super rare. Still have some first gen Pokémon left, but none of them are rare. Also a bunch of Dragonball cards and figures from early 2000s.
You ripped someone off. The most expensive BEWD is like $40. That's obviously not counting the alt art BEUD from the Asian Internationals that only had one copy printed.
Not my problem tho. If someone is willing to pay that much for a card, I hope he has all the knowledge about it... I had no clue what it was worth, anything above $20 I would have accepted. But there were 3 people bidding for a few days long, and eventually I got a good and long conversation with one of them and we made a deal. I had this version: "Blue-Eyes White Dragon LOB-E001 Ultra Rare 1st Ed.'". And if I check prices right now they indeed never go above $80 lmao. Guess I got lucky, and the guy made a stupid deal. But who's fault is that?
I played Yugioh in tournaments when I was 10, so much fun! Just when you came up against arrogant snobs who’s daddy spent hundreds on their deck ruined it 😂
I have a prismatic super rush that for konami is worth 25 gems and 1000 gold. We're glad you understand. Thanks for playing Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links. Keep it dank cheers ma boi
Should also note that extra deck cards could be 90% destroyed and as long as the main parts of it are readable, you can still use them at a tournament. I used to play with a super mangled X-Saber Urbellum in one of my first decks (accidentally rolled over it with a chair)
Exodia was ever forgotten ???? That Card is so popular, people gave the infinite 0 Mana fireball mage Combo in Hearthstone the Name "Exodia mage", cause it's insta win.
I played yugioh before the english version even came out, so I still have my old japanese cards. but I really got into the game once the English cards hit America, taking 1st place in a regionals in CO back in 2004/05 can't quite rem. But recently I went to a store to play some yugioh (the meta is disgusting now hah!) I thought it was a bit funny hearing many people saying "oh wow is that the original version?" mirror force, raigeki black hole, mystical space typhoon etc etc. to me they are just standard cards but I guess they are fairly rare considering they all got reprinted in common versions etc.
I remember looking at my buddies Japanese cards thinking nah you can't use those when we would be playing around "those are fake as shit". He only had a couple of them, same ones you mentioned, back around the same time Lol.
I may have stopped playing this game, but it is the reason i love card games, my transition from Yu-Gi-Oh to Magic: The Gathering was seamless and while i like Magic: The Gathering More as a card game, Yu-Gi-Oh will always be in my heart. You should also grade some Magic cards if you get the chance, those cards are stupidly expensive.
This actually happened to me, when I was at my grandmas house I was looking in this bin that belonged to my Uncle. And I found A bunch of Yu-Gi-Oh cards. For example, there was a Mundo and A Dark Magician!
Sleeves are expensive for non competitive players. I wasn't going to waste a good chunk of my allowance on sleeves when I could put that money towards more booster packs.
Defiantly me lol I always kept my cards inside my portable box. I couldn't afford buying sleeves and played them for fun. I have a couple 1st edition but they are all worn out from years. I actually liked to duel and pretend I was a female yugi 🤣🤣🤣
Yeah, quality sleeves are expensive (and time consuming.) I only sleeve "main" decks that I will unlikely change, or decks that simply require sleeves. (ex. Double sided cards)
I've got this sick binder with old and new Egyptian Gods and lots of 1st Ed like mirror force and other dope cards! Damn i'd like this guy to review my collection :-)
Im hungarian and i have the hungarian translated version and they are so bad man i cant even describe how shit the translation is. the sentences doesn't make sense the worlds arent written correctly. For instance there is one where there is a picture of a pumpkin and the cards name is lizzarded tomato. The diference between lizzarded and killer in hungarian is 1 letter so i can imagine the problem but how did pumpkin become tomato? No idea.
@@tiredeyezz i dare to speak that way because its true. yugioh hasone of the worst anime styles. because of that the creatures look crappy asf. some shiny trap and magic cards are okay tho...

@@panickedpotato909 not really. Expensive? Yes, its around 20 bucks last i checked. But thats because the set it came in is underprinted. The card has no relevant deck to fit into, and is pretty much irrelevant in the meta. But hey, at least its good in duel links /s
I have the old blue eye cars from the Kabia starter deck I have 6 of em... No scratches no bends nothing sleeved up in my binder well protected.. I have all blue eyes art works Collecting for a long time and still do
3:47-3:50 “there’s a printing error on the card” FYI that’s not a printing error. That’s how all the spell cards first came out, they where all originally magic cards.
Joshua Amador Nah, those plastic used to be too expensive, I always opted to use that money for another booster pack. Although, I did have like 30 or so pages in a binder.
Being a kid you don't really understand they'll be collectibles in the future. All mine didn't have sleeves and I played the shit out those cards. The backs were all scraped and they were all bent but it's what made it fun, to just toss them in your pocket and play with your friends whenever wherever without worrying about the condition of the cards.
Back in those days: Opponent: My turn! I flip my set monster, revive my magic card, I activate it, revive my other monster and ... (more moves) ... and I summon my ! Ha! Me: *Fissure* *many turns later* Opponent: Me: *Fissure* Good times
The reason Chaos Emporer's price has been fluctuating is because his text has been errata'd and been taken off the ban list in the OCG. OCG= Japanese print. (Meaning he has been made less powerful and that fans here are waiting for his inevitable reprint and unbanning here in the TCG. TCG = languages most everywhere outside of Japan) Lots of player's like the vintage feel and coloring of older cards. Also, the older cards are sometimes worth less because the game is based more on what's popular than nostalgia. (Don't get me wrong, lots of people play because of the feels!) -Pricing of individual YGO cards changes often based on what's popular at the time you are pricing it. All of the cards in this video looked pretty damaged to me, including the ones in the sleeves. The OG Relinquished and Buster Blader are worth $1 if they aren't in near-perfect condition. (If you took them out, I imagine they'd have some marks on back & dents here and there considering the players took minimal care of them.) I'm a hard core player of the game and fan of the original anime. There were lots of minor errors in this video that no one but an Yu-Gi-Oh! fan would notice.
McMexicans Yeah, quite a depressing thing when people value it like that, yet it's unlikely to be unbanned with the errata given how long ago it has been done in the OCG...
I purchased a book of banned cards from a guy at a card store when the most recent Meta deck was Lightsworns. He sold me the entire binder of cards w/the binder, which included 3 Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning. I still have many original banned cards from when the game first came out to around the time the ban list existed, so I owned one prior (4 total now). A little while after I purchased the book, Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning was announced to be removed from the ban list and they skyrocketed to $200 each on eBay.
U know wats super cool is getting blade spinners in chip packets and building them also after them so the year 2006,2008 had yugioh circle pictures out of chip packets made out of aluminium or some type of metal use to make a tink sound when i managed through them.
try cardmarket.com there you can get cards very cheap. Okay, you dont get a Raigeki for 3£ but way less than 20. At least if you are not to picky about what Set it came from.
People are probably coming here to see what are the higher value cards in the vintage sets but don’t get your hopes up, they cover like 5 cards in 12mins
I wish younger me wouldn't be so nice and give all of his collection away when he thought "I'm all grown up now I don't need yugioh cards anymore!"... Stupid kid...
Fair enough but I took good enough care of my cards even without sleeves. Every little scratch and little wear from playing though is part of my childhood and I wont sell my childhood cards anyway.

im 21 and i remember watching the cartoon and playing the card game when i was a kid, these guys are like late 20's and early 30's so how old where they when they started playing ?!?
They only deny them if they're damaged to the point that you can use the damage to tell what card you're about to draw, sort of like marked cards. Also you're right, the blue eyes structure deck didn't have a dark magician, but the first booster pack set in yugioh was called "Legend of the Blue-Eyes White Dragon" it did have a dark magician in it, and that's what he was talking about.
I sold all my yugioh cards except one deck cause the love for the game will always be there and i know someday hopefully if it’s still around my kid will get into it and I’ll be able to play him with my old deck
And this is why you should always use protection!

Throngdorr Mighty where I live you're called a weeb for talking about any anime. Even owning pokemon cards people look at you funny
Yeah, FKING EVERYONE at the park is dueling in the evenings
5:41 I think you mean "Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon". The mentioned and shown set was introduced 15 years later.
Yeah, that guy was a noob.
Lmaoooo
One of my best friends growing up had a holographic 1st Edition Dark Magician Girl that I wanted for YEARS! Almost a decade later we met up and he said "Did you ever get the birthday card I sent you?" I told him it never arrived, and he said in it was the Dark Magician Girl... That was probably the most generous act a friend has ever done, and I legit still think about where it could have gone 😢
damnnn I had 4 of them mint condition and sleeved. My mom made me throw them away tho when I was 12 or 13 because she said they were “evil” lol
He probably messing with you but who knows
I love David's story and the way he was nodding. I can totally imagine him on the playground with his friends
Passion in his eye
“Expert” claims that the starter yugi evolution dark magician is from LOB
Check your set codes -_-‘
Kaori Roy plays Pokemon more I know
And right after he calls the sdy one a "structure deck" card
more like CHECK HIS PAPERS lol
Right. This guy is full of crap. He also called the first set "Saga of Blue Eyes White Dragon", instead of Legend - why would it have a code of LOB otherwise?
And the deck they put on screen as he says it is from many years later.
"First edition, mint cards are worth maybe 40, $50."
Made me realise how expensive Magic is.
Old school mtg or go home
Alessandro Mazzacani Magic doesn't reprint very often like Yugioh does, either. The viability of older cards never really withers either.
Brycen Snowden thank you!!! I had to scroll way to far for someone else to notice!
Dayum. If you had your own card shop you could run this guy out of business! Insane
It's definitely not a nitpick if the guy is just straight up wrong.
Brycen Snowden Its called paid and supplied actors. This shit all fake.
6:13 Holds up and values an "LOB" dark magician that is actually a Starter Deck Yugi Evolution print.....

Still so mad at my self because I had all the awesome cards and my parents always nagged me about getting rid of them because I'm too old... so one day I threw them in the garbage when I shouldve sold them and made hundreds of dollars. That was like 1p years ago and I still cringe when I think about it
Eh I mean what is unknown to them they think is evil.
Mine worst, was a king of these games back when I was a child so I got like 2 boxes of Pokémon and these cards, and around I said 10K cards total from 2 boxes the least. My grandma decide to throw them out the garage since I stop playing them. Who know where it went..
My cousin had a large bin of lego bricks and he gave it to me. However, my parents thought I was to young for it and sold it away for about nothing.
everyone thinks their collection of 10k+ cards is worth something, even though there are like 4 cards worth 1+ dollars

I sold my Blue Eyes White Dragon for $200 lmao. Messaged some guy on ebay who sold his for $800 and asked what mine was worth, he said 250 at max since mine was somewhat used... So I was happy that someone wanted to buy it. It had been dusting away for a decade.
I 'had' three of them for the 3 headed super dragon thing I don't know where they are now :(
Ryan Marshall Good luck finding them! If you never played with them, they should be in your basement amyways.
Saga of blue eyes white dragon was made a *decade* after the yugi/kaiba sd’s
I believe he meant Legend of Blue Eyes, but i too cringed, they even showed the deck like aaaaa what are you doing
Plus the fact that that DM was a SYE, not LOB...
Mr. Smith hit the nail on the head.
PreciousGaming I think he was referring to that artwork being introduced in LOB and not that the guys card itself was an LOB print

Should also note that extra deck cards could be 90% destroyed and as long as the main parts of it are readable, you can still use them at a tournament. I used to play with a super mangled X-Saber Urbellum in one of my first decks (accidentally rolled over it with a chair)
He called Yu-Gi-Oh a CARTOON!
Well, it is a cartoon...
@DN_Horror an anime is a japanese cartoon.
Shoutout to the real OG'S THAT REMEMBER EXODIA!
Exodia was ever forgotten ????
That Card is so popular, people gave the infinite 0 Mana fireball mage Combo in Hearthstone the Name "Exodia mage", cause it's insta win.
I dont even play yugiho and know the card
Eeyyyeeee what up
Everyone knows Exodia. When you know a card like gogiga gagagigo then you're an og
If you remember Penguin Soldier then we can be friends.
I wish I was a teen when YU GI OH Season 2 is out, that way I could’ve played this in high school with my friends.
I played yugioh before the english version even came out, so I still have my old japanese cards. but I really got into the game once the English cards hit America, taking 1st place in a regionals in CO back in 2004/05 can't quite rem. But recently I went to a store to play some yugioh (the meta is disgusting now hah!) I thought it was a bit funny hearing many people saying "oh wow is that the original version?" mirror force, raigeki black hole, mystical space typhoon etc etc. to me they are just standard cards but I guess they are fairly rare considering they all got reprinted in common versions etc.
i play yugioh now,in 2018,and i destroy everybody with my links lol
Black Hole the rare misprint of Dark Hole.
The japanese name of the card translates into black hole
I remember looking at my buddies Japanese cards thinking nah you can't use those when we would be playing around "those are fake as shit". He only had a couple of them, same ones you mentioned, back around the same time Lol.
Commissar Gamza at least u won tho
I may have stopped playing this game, but it is the reason i love card games, my transition from Yu-Gi-Oh to Magic: The Gathering was seamless and while i like Magic: The Gathering More as a card game, Yu-Gi-Oh will always be in my heart. You should also grade some Magic cards if you get the chance, those cards are stupidly expensive.
PP Hyjynx are you gay?
This actually happened to me, when I was at my grandmas house I was looking in this bin that belonged to my Uncle. And I found A bunch of Yu-Gi-Oh cards. For example, there was a Mundo and A Dark Magician!
This video could be 14 seconds long...
what kind of psychopath doesn't put their cards in sleeves?
Sleeves are expensive for non competitive players. I wasn't going to waste a good chunk of my allowance on sleeves when I could put that money towards more booster packs.
I couldn't afford them for all my cards, so I only got some for my deck
Defiantly me lol
I always kept my cards inside my portable box. I couldn't afford buying sleeves and played them for fun. I have a couple 1st edition but they are all worn out from years. I actually liked to duel and pretend I was a female yugi 🤣🤣🤣
Yeah, quality sleeves are expensive (and time consuming.)
I only sleeve "main" decks that I will unlikely change, or decks that simply require sleeves. (ex. Double sided cards)
That's why I always tried to get 2 copies of each card. One to put into a sleeve and one to play with.
I've got this sick binder with old and new Egyptian Gods and lots of 1st Ed like mirror force and other dope cards! Damn i'd like this guy to review my collection :-)
Better search for someone better at that...
“In terms of competitive, judges are very strict”
Right cuz we are all gonna bring our singular legend of blue eyes raigeki into tournaments
No idea.
Bad news for you man, but there's no such thing as Hungarian Yugioh cards. They're 100% fake.
RyanAtlus possibly but whatever shitty company tried to fake them into hungarian made a very poor job

It bugs me how the first guy doesn't have his cards in sleeves.

Now I'd REALLY want to return to primary school just to play this!!
He talks about the really tough judges... THEN STILL TOUCHES THEM ALL SLEEVELESS
(Don't get me wrong, lots of people play because of the feels!)
-Pricing of individual YGO cards changes often based on what's popular at the time you are pricing it. All of the cards in this video looked pretty damaged to me, including the ones in the sleeves. The OG Relinquished and Buster Blader are worth $1 if they aren't in near-perfect condition. (If you took them out, I imagine they'd have some marks on back & dents here and there considering the players took minimal care of them.)
I'm a hard core player of the game and fan of the original anime. There were lots of minor errors in this video that no one but an Yu-Gi-Oh! fan would notice.
After seeing this, I should get mine appraised & maybe sold. I've kept mine in binders & sleeves, & I have a lot of the ones they have.
“Dark magician from blue eyes white dragon set” *shows dark magician from yugi evolution deck
Chaos Emperor Dragon is rising in price because people are expecting Konami to unban it now that it's gotten an errata.
McMexicans still can’t play the 1st edition ones cuz of the errata
To Break A CPU If i remember correctly so long as you have the errated text nearby it doesn't matter
I kinda hate Errata. Just make a new card and let the other come back later when the game is ready for it thanks to power creep.
McMexicans Yeah, quite a depressing thing when people value it like that, yet it's unlikely to be unbanned with the errata given how long ago it has been done in the OCG...
Merilirem an errata is the only way chaos emperor Dragon will ever be playable though, power creep won't touch it cause it can otk
It’s funny how most people here have no idea how broken this game is now adays xD. I bet 3/4 or more don’t even know what a link summon is
richard Oglesby Serious question tho, what is link summoning
Ronri Samurai It is when you summon a Borreload Dragon
Nicklaus Jones thanks, not sure what that is either tho
Ronri Samurai
It's a newer kind of extra deck monster
Nicklaus Jones it's when gouki extra links you for the 50th time when going first, with a near indestructible board
Better than the pokemon card
U know wats super cool is getting blade spinners in chip packets and building them also after them so the year 2006,2008 had yugioh circle pictures out of chip packets made out of aluminium or some type of metal use to make a tink sound when i managed through them.
