What’s your favorite and best tank sets?

    • @TheAsvarduilProject
      @TheAsvarduilProject 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

So, for my main character, a Magicka Templar tank Paladin du Loire (PS4):
*Twice-Born Star (9-Set Crafted, Craglorn)* - This is widely considered the best Templar set, but it's also really newbie friendly - It grants Health, Magicka, and Stamina, but more to the point allows you to use _two_ Standing Stones. As a magicka tank, I recommend taking The Apprentice and The Lady, to enhance Spell Damage and Physical/Spell Resist. One caveat: to get the most out of this set, you'll want to fully upgrade it using tempers, and make sure as many pieces are the "Divines" trait as is reasonable.
A reason I like this set, is its protean nature - while there's a massive investment that goes into it, you can easily hit 30000 Physical and Spell Resist (Paladin du Loire currently has just north of 30000 Physical Resist, and 36000 Spell Resist, because Breton Templar.) If you decide you want to do something other than tanking, it's cool - you can just change standing stone bonuses.
*Trinimac's Valor (Overland Orsinium, Orsinium DLC)* - This is a set that I don't see people run very often, but with the Defensive Posture ability's morphs in 1H + Shield (I prefer Defensive Stance, because it temporarily takes a caster out of the equation), it's _broken AF._ It gives a lot of Magicka bonuses, but the 5 set bonus is where it's at: when you use a Damage Shield ability, a shard of Trinimac is called from the heavens that, after a couple of seconds, detonates in about a 5m radius. Enemies take Magic Damage, while allies are healed, on a relatively short cooldown.
Because my system focuses on mitigation more than just being a Health sponge, this is a way of not only improving my damage shield ability into a personal heal, but also a way of maintaining aggro on monsters. I can literally charge a formation with Explosive Charge to do some immediate AoE magicka damage, I can immediately cast my shield next, to deal a little bit more. In a pitched boss fight, my character's low health regeneration doesn't matter, because I'm constantly keeping my shield up.
*Mighty Chudan (Undaunted)* - You don't *have* to have Argonian Dungeon DLCs to get Mighty Chudan, running Undaunted pledges for keys is good enough. I prefer this monster set for tanking, though. This gives a lot of armor, and more importantly, gives you a static Major Resolve, which enhances your Spell and Physical Resist by 5280. Now, some people will say, "Aaah, but you _could_ just use Rune Focus's morphs, since this is a Templar tank!" I say, simply: no. I need the slot on my hotbar for my tool kit, having to use precious magicka just to keep Major Resolve on me isn't productive, and given the fluid nature of ESO's combat, it's often not possible to stay in one place to get the enhanced 50% bonus from standing in the sigil. If we're going that route, Circle of Restoration from Fighter's Guild is a better idea, since it supercharges Stamina regen, gives anyone in it a heal over time, but also grants Minor Protection which reduces damage taken by 8%. I can have stupidly high damage resistance that way, as at my current level of armor, the extra 2640 resistance equates to _way_ less than 8% additional mitigation.
Those are the *sets* I use. Of course, as you note, sets alone don't make a build, you have to have potions and food and proper enchantments, useful passives like the Psijic Order 5000 point damage shield, a good CP spread, as well as intelligently chosen abilities (as alluded to above), and above all? _Know your game mechanics!_ With the proper accessories, you'll find tanking gets to be reasonably easy. A test I like to give my tank builds is to take on a variety of world bosses, alone. If I can't solo them all, the build needs adjustments.

Tank is definitely a role where you need to switch gear depending on the content you are running. Overall, I find the safest bet is just to stack sets that give Ultimate or reduce Ultimate cost. Since you can control when to proc the Ultimate, and what the Ultimate is, it allows you a lot of flexibility - particularly if you are running with a mostly disorganized group, which I tend to do. For example, you could have a damage Ultimate and a healing Ultimate, and you fire off the one that seems the most useful. Note that the Ancient Warhorn Ultimate is largely pointless outside of organized groups because people do not take advantage of it. That goes for many tank sets too: sets that buff other people are less useful when your group is not organized.
It's also worth mentioning that as a tank you can wear medium armor sets too, or even light - just make sure you have 5+ heavy pieces. There are some good Ultimate gen medium sets, and some sets with decent group buffs.
For lesser content, notably 4 person pug dungeons, I find that the best bonus I can bring is something that helps out the group if it turns out we are one person short (either because someone disconnects or a person is so useless they are adding nothing). In this situation, I find bringing some extra DPS and healing really helps. This is a good place for Ultimates, but I've used DPS sets too. A good example of where this helps is Direfrost Keep, where very often if one of your DPS is useless you cannot kill the final boss. Another example is the netch boss in Darkshade 2. Obviously, the better situation is to have DPS that know what they are doing, but in my experience that is rarely the case and those two bosses result in more incomplete runs than most. Also in the same group: the final boss in City of Ash 2, the final boss in Banished Cells 2, the final boss in Crypt of Hearts 2. Some of these bosses are tank-resistant anyway, meaning they have teleport and attack mechanics that make it impossible to keep them in one place or focused on you. In these situations, having a good all-rounder tank is better than a specialized tank, unless you are running an organized group. Apart from Ulti sets, good sets for an all-rounder are ones that deal damage and provide healing. Leeching Plate is a good example, but there are quite a few sets that do this now, such as Bahara's Curse, Winters Respite.
For harder DLC dungeons and trials, stacking health is certainly more important because there are attacks that can kill you even if you block because they do so much damage. How much health depends on how organized the group is. One mistake people make is paying too much attention to TH-camrs who run in ulta-organized trial groups. In those groups the DPS is so strong that the tank can completely focus on DPS-buffing sets because the fights are over quicker and there is less danger where you would need high health. Unfortunately, most groups are not that good, and if you run those sets you might find their effects are wasted and you the tank die a lot because you sacrificed survivability for group buffs. Once again, this is another example of where you have to consider the abilities of your group. If the group is not organized, then take more health or ultimate generation.

I use, Perfected Yoln (backbar and some body), Vet Vateshran Hollows sword and board (it's the best new set ever for clumping mobs) and bloodlord's embrace on Chest (mythic) and then a flex set for the last set (like crimson). It works in all content. Most of the sets like plague doctor are just pointless as it's just health (which you could get better effects than just health). I don't use a monster set most of the time since most of the tank ones suck and
bloodlords ( (1 item) Dealing damage with a Bash attack places a persistent, un-cleansable Blood Curse on an enemy. You can only have one Blood Cursed enemy at a time and dealing additional Bash damage moves the Blood Curse. Blocking an attack from a Blood Cursed enemy restores 1535 Magicka to you. This effect can occur every 1 second.))
and Perfected Void Bash ((2 items) Adds 965 Maximum Health, When you deal damage with Power Bash, you apply Call of the Void to yourself for 2 seconds. Enemies within 12 meters are immediately pulled to you. After Call of the Void ends, you apply Major Maim to enemies in the area for 10 seconds, reducing their damage done by 10%. This effect can occur once every 13 seconds) is just way better.
Tanking isn't just about surviving it's about buffing/debuffing and placement of mobs for easy burning.
So tanking sets I collect: Perfected Yoln, Worms,, Crimson, Bloodlord, Perfected Void Bash, Sympony, Engine Guardian, Leeching, Crimson, Hercine and Ebon if you're like mini tank in cloudrest or something or OT in somewhere where you might want it.

I disagree on ebon being the best set. It's useful on offtanks though when the main already has yoln and another buff set. But honestly unless you're in a raid the extra 1k health doesn't matter even for trifecta runs. I rarely run ebon on 4 man content since you're either alive or one shot most of the time and the one shots are not something where 1k saved you.

Ebon's quite a good option for pugs because there's always someone with zero health buffs. The game is such where 15k health results in far more death than 16k because there are a lot of 12-15k boss attacks. That extra buff from ebon can make a surprisingly big difference. However, part of me does not want to encourage stupid people, and ebon is useless if your pug actually consists of 4 semi-competent people. Those buff sets you mention can also be largely wasted on pugs because they do not take advantage of the buffs. Personally, I get more mileage out of Ultimate boosting sets, although blocking-triggered sets are good if you can maintain block.
It's all about context. If you are running organized groups then the tank sets are totally different than pugs, so saying "this set is overrated" or "this set is underrated" is often a result of confusing contexts.

Alkosh is not as desirable anymore since the debuffs to everything was changed. Only time it's really useful is stam groups since mixed groups are usually over-debuffed for mag comps. If you are a necro you can give yourself your own synergy and if you're using alkosh on any other class just tell the healer to throw orbs (they should be anyway unless it's a normal dungeon then whatever you don't need alkosh for that). The best tanking sets in general were Yoln/Alkosh prior to Markarth now nobody really runs Alkosh post Markarth.

    • @tyrellmclean35
      @tyrellmclean35 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I know there are several videos talking about alkosh, but for mag comps if you have DPS that aren't blades or necros, you will be losing DPS if you take off alkosh. The threshold for trials is around 2-3 dps. If those 2-3 players aren't cros or blades, alkosh is most definitely needed. I recently ran Torags Yoln and my raid group at most got to 16k pen and fights had 20-30+ seconds added them because of the alkosh loss.

I have a shield damage build.
My first set is the phoenix set from the imperial city, and whitestrike's retribution (can be crafted, forgot from where).
The phoenix set from imperial cirty is light armor only, which sucks, HOWEVER, it includes weapons, shield, and jewelry. I did spend a lot of tel vars on that bastard.
So having necklace, 2 rings, belt buckle, sword (and my 2 handed sword as well, I haven't found the shield, but at least both weapons ensure I always have the set finished) should do.
Whitestrike's retribution is heavy, and for that I have boots, pants, chest, arms, and helmet... (Future plan, I want to get a phoenix shield so I can use a whitestrake belt so I can use an undaunted set helmet + shoulders, and get 3 active sets, and just use sword + shield on both skill bars)
Whitestrake's retribution increases your max health, armor and adds 129 health recovery
Phoenix increases your max magicka, magica recovery and spell damage.
Whitestrike's retribution grants you a damage shield when you take health below 30% Up to around 10k ish
That shield's nice, you can use that to use your vampiric drain to restore your health back up.
If for some reason an enemy manages to destroy your shield and hits you again when your health is below 25% you activate your phoenix set shield, which has like 25k damage protection AND burns enemies nearby, it's a massive shield you can use to really recover. And if an enemy manages to hit you to land below 25%, you'll activate both shields at the same time, which pretty much protects you for about your whole health lol.
You can combine it with blazing shield for extra protection + shielded assault + defensive stance to do some damage while still protecting yourself, and use psijic's skills to create a damage shield while blocking + CP to create another damage shield while blocking. And if you want the whole cocoon set, use bone shield from undaunted to also deal damage and protect yourself... And don't forget your damage shield ultimate from support, which can also heal you and your companions.
Also include Bastian Hallix, who also has a damage shield from his draconic armor skills.
This build is for patient people who like seeing their enemies die from punching walls, since reflecting their spells with defensive posture, or the explosion from blazing shield, are your major damage dealers, shielded assault as well, but I mostly use that to get away from areas quickly, or just do basic damage, followed by a heavy to keep my stamina up.
It's a slow combat build where you win by enduring, and not by actually doing damage lol.
    (I have an imperial vampire)

    • @fodspeed
      @fodspeed 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I use spiked shield and ignous shield, just using ignous give stamina back and then use spiked shield,
Spiked shield is underated, I see most people use other morph, I mean you are doing 12k damage while protecting yourself.

To be honest, if you're just starting out with Tanking here is my 'starter' build that so far I can tank anywhere up to 2mil Hp Bosses with super ease and I'm only level 23! .... okay, w/CP, but not alot of CP - only 302! Not sure if this would work without CP, but feel free to try. I am Argonian, Dragon Knight, level 23, 302 CP, 7x Death's Wind set w/Training Trait (just to level up) and 5x Plague Doc. All pieces enchanted with Health except weapons are both bars SnB w/Absorb Stamina. Using Lord Mundus. So far only 18 atts into Health and 10 into Stamina, but my stats with Tri-buff food is: 52K Health, 21K Magicka and 22.5k Stamina. Recovery for all three 1,300 / 1,200 / 1,200. All this if you know where to put your 'early' CP points. Look, I am a CP806 on an Xbox One, a CP302 on the new XBox Series S and so far, this little level 23 is the absolute strongest 'tank wise' toon I've made and it's not even close to end-game. And PvPers beat the crap outta me but I just won't die. I cannot really fight back because, well, because I'm a 'tank', but I just stand still and let them throw everything they have at me and barely lose health. They lose resources, wait to boost and in a circle jerk we go until we get bored. Give it try. Really nice noob tank build that actually can take a beating!
I forgot to mention resist. Spell is at 18k and Phys is at just over 18k. Again, level 23! I see 810s talking about 20k - 30k resist ... I'm almost there at level 23/302cp.

Personally if it's someone who just reached CP 160 I recommend for DK Tanks specifically this setup
Body: Akaveri Dragonguard - This set gives the user a 15% reduction on ultimates, Its a perfect set for DK Tanks because they have two ultimates they can use (Magma Shell & Aggressive Warhorn) And a passive that allowes them to restore all resources after casting ultimates. Perfect sustain, Tankiness and can never go wrong. Plus very easy to farm.
Weapon & Jewelry: Cyrodiils Crest - This set grants the user close to 8k heal after block. This set again is great for single targert boss fights
Monster: Bloodspawn - This set does two things for the user
      ^
      1. Gives the user increases resistances by over 3k when proc'd
      2. Again helps built ultimate to keep improved overall sustain
For beginners this is what I recommend for DK Tanks

For vet dungeons and normal trial runs there are a lot of sets that you can run as tank that will work just fine. The harder end game vet trials, trial hard modes runs, trial score runs, ect., your gear is going to be more dependent on your group composition. Sets like Leeching, Crismson, & Stone Keeper are good sets to keep the tank alive but are considered selfish sets because they don't buff the group, they just help the tank survive. A really good end game tank will run sets that give him just enough survivability to squeak by while buffing the damage/survivability of the rest of his group. There are exeptions to this though, such as Vet Dragonstar Arena's last round where the common strategy involves the tank taking all the adds away from the group and surviving on his own. Those exceptions are where the so called selfish sets come in handy even for experienced end game tanks. In general the better you get at tanking the less survivability you'll need and you'll get away from those selfish sets and start running the ones that buff others in your group but offer you less survivability.
To answer your question though, your on the right track lol.

I love the leaching set and most players that I talk to seem to like it
however just now some of the players in guild that I am in said it is a selfish set and creates bad habits.
Now I know it does not heal others but I play it with -- battalion defender and my monster Worden set so do fell it is good.
But just wondering what your thoughts are on it would it be good to keep using these sets or is it better to switch to some of the others?

For my money crimson twilight and leeching plate is an utterly ridiculous combo. Wear it with band of brutality and the proc damage alone is crazy... is it selfish? Well when a 3 man wipe happens and I animate dead it doesn't seem selfish. I've also used it on a mag Templar tank and spammed puncturing and can live through boss mechanics. Trust me.. wear these 2 sets, with pale order when your solo... you almost can't die... I also use introspection and watch monsters die trying to kill me while I stay at full health. I'm also a fan of live wire for concussion and heals, baharas curse and thunderbug... but the most potent combo for me has been crimson and leeching.

Hey. Can you help me with a build.
Obviously I’m not playing endgame with this guy but I wanted to build a solo “tank” ie using sword and board that can take the most punishment and either absorb, heal through or mitigate the most damage possible.
I wanted to build for hp’s and armor but not sure it would work.
What would you recommend for sets, class and race?

    • @Embryolk
      @Embryolk 3 ปีที่แล้ว

My solo build is Plague Doctor, Green Pact, and Mighty Chudan. My character is a dark elf dragon knight. DKs have a lot of good self heals. And to be honest, I've been called a selfish tank for running this. You don't provide any buffs to your party, but if you're solo it doesn't matter. You're not going to die unless you get over ran by mobs or space out.
      Mighty Chudan: Set bonus
      (1 item) Adds 1487 Armor
(2 items) Adds 1206 Maximum Health, Gain Major Resolve at all times, increasing your Physical Resistance and Spell Resistance by 5948.
      Plague Doctor: Set bonus
(2 items) Adds 1206 Max Health
(3 items) Adds 1206 Max Health
(4 items) Adds 1206 Max Health
(5 items) Adds 2804 Max Health
      Green Pact: Set bonus
(2 items) Adds 1206 Maximum Health
(3 items) Adds 129 Health Recovery
(4 items) Adds 1206 Maximum Health
(5 items) While you have a food buff active, your Maximum Health is increased by 2500 and Health Recovery by 356.
The food that I use is the crown fortifying meal, which are free with the daily login. This adds health, magika, and stamina.
My dungeon set is Lord Warden, Ebon, and Green Pact (for now). This build is more for buffing the party.
      Lord Warden:
      (1 item) Adds 1487 Armor
(2 items) When you take damage, you have a 50% chance to summon a shadow orb for 10 seconds that increases the Physical Resistance and Spell Resistance of you and your group members within 8 meters by 3180. This effect can occur once every 10 seconds.
      Ebon:
(2 items) Adds 1206 Max Health
(3 items) Adds 1206 Max Health
(4 items) Adds 4% Healing Taken
(5 items) Increases your Max Health by 1000 for you and up to 11 other group members within 28 meters of you.
      I also use Igneous Weapons:
Charge you and your grouped allies' weapons with volcanic power to gain Major Brutality and Sorcery, increasing your Weapon Damage and Spell Damage by 20% for 45 seconds.
I'm looking for another set to replace Green Pact, but I'm not sure what I'm going to go with yet.

But I am curious why I never see werewolf tanks though.. they provide the "Feeding frenzy" synergy which grants empower. They provide an AOE cc which also debuffs everyone with major breach and minor maim. Single target major defile. And minor courage which buffs weapon/spell power by 215. And all that is without a set equipped. With Tormentor set you can AOE taunt which also buffs your damage. My imperial werewolf tank has 38k health 35k/32k resistance and after taunting a room my weapon damage jumps to almost 5k. I also run almalexia mercy which heals everyone around me all the time and to help with cc I use the monster helm set swarm mother.
