This is a good list of examples of great DPS sets. However, there are a lot of other sets that are as good as the ones listed here, although they tend to be of the situational type. Also, even the easy sets have some conditions to using them. Mother's Sorrow, for example, is a lot more useful if you go heavy into critical attacks and critical damage - which seems obvious, but many people fail to consider WHY a set is good. If you do not stack as much crit damage as possible, then Mother's Sorrow is not particularly better than many other sets - it may even be worse. It's also important to look at the whole picture of your character. Everyone seems to favor Mother's Sorrow over, say, Spinner, yet at the same time, when recommending a mundus stone people tend to recommend The Lover, which gives you more-or-less the same bonus that Spinner does. So the bonus is somehow better on a mundus stone than on a set? How does that make any sense? Also, if the penetration bonus is so great, then why is The Shadow used with Mother's Sorrow? Obviously, it is used because it provides crit damage, but that means your character has less penetration. Is Mother's Sorrow + Shadow better than Spinner + Lover? Actually, it's not. See, when people recommend Mother's Sorrow, they need to preface that with "Assuming your group is providing enough penetration that you do not need any". I got news for you: outside of very organized trial groups, your group is NOT doing that, therefore using Mother's Sorrow might not actually be the best option. If you have Mother's Sorrow and Spinner then I suggest the following experiment: Try using Mother's Sorrow and going with as much other crit and crit damage as you can on your weapon traits and mundus. Then try using Spinner with as much penetration as possible. Which one is more effective? Can you even tell? Try switching the mundus stones and weapon traits. Now can you tell? My point is, all these differences are very small. So small that, unless you have a near-perfect rotation, they barely matter. And, guess what? You won't have a near perfect rotation because most content is not a target dummy. My overall point is this: If you do not know what group you are running with, or you do not have confidence in the group to do what it needs to do, then don't use builds that rely on external conditions to shine. You will be far better off running some balanced sets that give you a bit of everything: max magicka, spell damage, spell pen, spell crit, magicka recovery. Personally, I like Spinner + Julianos because that gives me a bit of everything. But I also have characters that use burning spellweave, or war maiden, or necropotence because those characters are making good use of the things those sets provide.
Cool video dude. Playing mag dk and was getting bored with the sets i run. So running false gods stuhns combo. When the stuhns procs it is a wrecker so thanks for the idea.
Great video first off,the information is 100% correct. However you did not mention any support sets which was strange to me (as an Endgame player). There are multiple support style dps sets that are essential for groups such as Z'ens, Martial Knowledge, Master Architect, and Elemental Catalyst (coming next patch). These sets are amazing for providing buffs to your trial group, and everyone will thank you for wearing them.Note wearing these sets does of course lower your damage but the buffs provided will more than make up for the loss.
@@fredwardandthebear3192 Master Architect and Elemental Catalyst will 100% be used on DPS rather than a Healer. For Sustain sets you've got False God's, Seducer, and possibly Litch. Running these sets will drastically reduce your damage however (with the exception of False God's) so I would not recommend wearing them. If your sustain is awful run Spell Symmetry in the Mages Guild skill line.
Thank you man! Ardaële andSybiela are now a happy Warden and Sorcerer... Can't wait for your stam DPS sets review, Grogag the Orc Warden and Thorvald the DK are on the side-lines (my DK is a stam PvE tank, but I swap his CP for him to become a "tanky" stam DPS in PvP).. ;-)
Having a really hard time figuring out what to pair mother's sorrow with on a Necro. Any tips? No trial sets as I'm only 300 CP and don't do them yet. Reason I'm having a hard time is the sets that look good have crit on them, and there is no point in me getting more crit as I allready have close to 100% in execute phase
So honestly false gods would be great it’s from sunspire trial but if you run on normal it’s not bad, plus you can run with us and our guild. Other than that, how many flame abilities do you have?
@@Adam_Lutz I would LOVE to get False god, but as I mentioned, not doing trials yet as I feel like I don't have the damage yet. Most of my abilities are fire. Using Ricochet skull as spammable and blastbones. Both fire I'm pretty sure. I do have a lighting staff on back bar though for wall of elements, so not everything is fire
Then burning spellweave would be great for you. And honestly you are probably doing enough, we don’t have a dps requirement. We can help you through the trial just let us know
I still don't understand how to get Law of Julianos. I go to the specific craft table in Wrothgar but am missing traits to actually build the stuff. Seems impossible.
So it’s hard to explain in a comment. But I’ll do my best (I’ll try to explain this in another video too) but basically some sets and skills work better together on the back bar and front bar. So if you had mothers sorrow rings and necklace on plus the mothers sorrow staff. Staves, or any 2h weapon count as 2 pieces of a set. So with say a dragon knight you would have your single target abilities and spammables on the front bar with mothers sorrow. That way when you are on that bar spamming skills you are getting the most out of your spell critical bonus from the set. Now on the back bar you have your aoe abilities and buffs, so you run say the maelstrom staff. That staff benefits when you use elemental blockade. So you put that skill on the back bar and that staff. You aren’t spending a lot of time on the back bar, just to reapply your buffs. That’s why the back vs.front matters.
Brah We Got This Thank you for your response. Ok so from what I understand from your explanation is that to match abilities with weapons and armor bonuses. So Lightning staff of maelstrom benefits elemental blockade=lightning passive from the destruction skill line benefits AoE damage=elemental blockade is always of the back bar with other AoE abilities, so far so good? In regards to armor I’m still not understanding, are you saying that by having mother’s sorrow in two staffs, necklace and rings only benefits the back bar? Currently, I’m using 5 pieces of Julianos, Ilambris as monster set and Mother’s Sorrow: two staffs (1 inferno, 1 lightning), necklace and two rings. What Im I doing wrong or what I could do better?
@@thrawn2034 You want to have, for example, Julianos-set to have the 5piece bonus on both bars, so that set and your monster set already take 7 armor/jewelry slots. Now you want Mothers Sorrow for example as damage set, so you fit your 3 empty armor/jewelry slots with it and the Staff on your Main-bar. On the Back-bar you put for example a Maelstrom-Staff. Mealstrom set only has a 2-piece bonus. Staffs/Bows/2handed weapons count as 2 pieces for the set bonuses. This way you have on both bars 3 full set bonuses -> julianos/mothers sorrow/monster on main-bar -> julianos/maelstrom/monster on back-bar To utilize your set bonuses the best way you put your abilites which benefit most from Mothers Sorrow on the main-bar (single target/spammable/etc) and the abilites which benefit from Maelstrom and your buffs go to the back bar. Hope that made it a bit clear how you distribute sets on your gear.
When the set is designed to augment flame damage, does that apply only to weapons (such as a flame staff) or does it also apply to abilities that cause flame damage such as Burning Embers, Choking Talons or Obsidian Shard?
if it says "fire damage" & not "magic damage" . Shards are "magic damage" all flame damage is technically magic damage,as in magica resistance is applied to all the elemental types of damage,& most the time, fire damage is scaled off of your spell damage rating(lots of DK fire skills are effected by spell or weapon damage, but the tool tip will state if it's scaled that way,but spell resistance will still apply to fire dmg type)
Im running mothers sorrow / burning spellweave / valkyn skoria two piece on my magcro and i am loving it! What other sets could I get to make my magcro better?
@@theshortbus9033 There are better sets but few that are better for mobility fights. Four second down downtime is nothing considering your are more than often reseting aoe dots for a couple seconds or on back bar or moving/doing mechanics. Any disadvantage of burning spellweave is more easily offset and dismissed in practicality.
