You just gotta be in awe how even during extreme stress induced selfishness he places the hound's well being above his. And that even when paranoid and accusing everyone else of scheming against him, he never questions the hound's loyalty and always trust her unconditionally. When abusive, he still praises her. Basically, throughout all the possible in-game afflictions, he is unable to speak ill of her or think of her as anything less than faultless justice pursuer's companion. I like to think he feels this way because animals don't / can't act under pretence / guise like humans often do, (almost all) animals always show exactly who they are. He is still scarred from finding out (most of?) the police department were actually criminals in disguise and I think it made him unable to trust other people. I think he is always on the lookout for betrayal even from those he "trusts", but his hound is the only being who he knows doesn't hide any scheming or criminal activity from him (perhaps besides stealing some snacks or munching some boots), it might be that in his mind the hound is purer than any person because of this.
I remember hearing somewhere that the gang the bounty hunter goes after is the chief and his goons and in one if the town events and HM and BH are shaking hands. They also synchronize very well together.
Fun fact about the Houndmaster's : he's probably french-inspired. When you upgrade his protection at the maximum, it gets the name Gendarme's Pride. A gendarme is a kind of military police officer in France.
I caught some ninja onions when I first time saw him protecting his dog when getting a hit. Still I cannot wait for my favorite boi: "The Abomination" next. That teaser was excellent
You know what makes it even more heartbreaking. In the Butcher's Circus when he dies, Fergus would sit next to him. Seen how her entire world been gone, how her greatest bond got forever broken, how her beloved master, that treat her more then an equal and protecting her as she did followed him, stays lifeless.
I hate bringing the HM into the butchers circus. If he dies the dog stands over his corpse and looks so sad. I have a huge love for dogs and it breaks my heart.
Hey at least they didn't kill the dog too.... oh wait, what if destroying the corpse means you killed the dog too... I'm sorry I just made a horrible headcannon.
The true heart piercing moment, to know all that he stood for us being govern by those who are not worthy and instead act like a tyrant or heretic. For the hound master, his four legged beast was the only company that could understand his justice. But it not stop him to make things right with his club and the fang of his companion. I really like this lore and the rest, so heart breaking but entertaining.
There's a couple inconsistencies with Fergus. As seen at 0:42 this official artwork depicts Willem with a bloodhound, but it's otherwise an Irish Wolfhound. The blacksmith refers to Fergus as male, but Willem exclusively refers to his hound as a girl.
I black smith end was probably an oversight left behind from an earlier draft when Fergus may of been male and my guest for the artwork, Red Hook didn't want to spend the money to redraw the dog as a Irish Wolfhound.
@@quitkid8727 I was think they either wanted to wanted to make the game more immersive or Red Hook wanted to avoid legal trouble with Hannah Barbara and Warner Brothers.
I like how well written the script is and how well you add on the enviroument with your voice. Im shocked you dont have ten times the views. Maybe people arent such lore fanatics as i am but i wish you best of luck with your Channel and dont stop
The final hound-master quote - "Steady, girl. If we're called, we answer"
is only topped by the Leper - "Spare the others, I am ready"
I love how when the houndmaster dodges, the image is him protecting his dog. Little touches like that add so much personality and likability.
You can’t trust a hound to watch your sandwich, but you can always trust him to watch your back.
True. I know doggos all to well. (I live with 2 and they are a handful at times.)
I dunno why but this shit is funny
Had two beagles, I certainly never ate alone, but I was never alone during the rough parts of life either
Just like the bois
A lawman and his faithful beast - a bond forged by battle and bloodshed.
Ahhh, hello old friend. It has been some time.

first time I'm hearing about this and it's already fully enforced into my headcanon lmao

Gendarme isn't fully french anymore as many languages uses the word for Formal Military units with Law Enforcement roles
the guy definitely has a french style

Why the houndmastzr is one of rhe best?
Doggo
I mean, there's a reason why there is a Pets mod for all the classes to get their own animals.
Best borfer. Smart of the William to keep a cudgel on him.
The Houndmaster so far is my favorite unit, would love to see him again for DLC for DD2

Your videos make me want to do a run with only 1 of each character allowed and rename all of them to their actual names
Only one of each class, and not allowed to recruit any others. When they die, they're dead.
I think there is a mod for that - you start with full roster of characters and you cant recruit any more.

Honestly when my first houndmaster died and I saw the corpse it made me realize how sad this game can realy be
I am really glad I found your channel. Your vids about the lore are the best!
One of the best lore channel i found!
I'm a bit curioius abut the names you give the heroes.
Are the names confirmed by the developers or are they placed onto the heroes by the fanbase?
Names are confirmed by the devs. Some have changed too. Houndmaster was originally Shag and Scoob.

Ah I see, but if they kept the name, the HM would have broken the game with his power. Wise choice

Having a houndmaster in the party should decrease stress everytime you make camp, since there's a doggo for everyone to pet
