Ancestor on all other bosses: "I have done some regrettable things."
Ancestor on the miller: "Fuck that guy, am I right?"
My guess is because at the time of those descriptions the Ancestor was still stringing his Heir along to speed up the Heart's awakening. By the time of meeting the Miller, the jig is up and he no longer bothers hiding he was a bastard through and through.

The farmer just wanted to save his farm but instead got a god inslaving him for eternity
Hag - So I was doing dark magic with plants and that woman showed up
Siren - So I was making deals with the deep ones and this woman showed up, so I sold her too
Prophet - So I was doing some more dark magic and this guy was telling everyone
Cannon - So my people got angry at me for doing dark magic, so I started blasting them
Miller - He was a hardworking simple man who needed help, so I did dark magic and sold him
This place makes me so sad. At least, for the other places of the Domain, like the Ruins, you can actually eradicate the "major threats", except of course for the Darkest Dungeon.
But the Farmstead...nothing.
I could kill the Witch Hag and therefore the center of the Weald plague. I could kill the Lord Necromancer and stop the awakening of the dead. I could kill the Swine God and rip off the pigs of their leader. I could kill the Drowned Crew and make the Cove more sure. I could kill the Countess, origin of all this tragic story. But I can't kill the Sleeper. I can't make sure the future will be brighter. I can't stop it.
No matter how strong a mere human is, it's powerless, hopeless and useless facing an eldritch god. Only the Thing under the manor brought me more despair than the Sleeper.
Not yet. Men cannot stand kill this foe yet. This is the age of pike and shot. Hold the line, let the age of industry and iron take root, and the keys to victory may yet be forged.
@@maledwarfwarrior By the day of iron and industry the Hamlet will be abandoned and its horrors long forgotten. Also the Sleeper is basicaly an infant, but who knows how much it grew by then?
@@aureliodeprimus8018 The sleeper may grow in power, but as long as humanitiy's growth outstrips the sleeper it is a net gain. After all, putting off the battle means far more humans and higher quality soldiers. As for the hamlet's horrors being forgotten, the ancestor created a vast treasure trove of forbidden lore. The other idiots trying to perform similar feats aren't going to forget this place exists, so the odds of at least a small military base being set up with inquisitors to keep cultists out are fairly good. They even serve as the perfect canary in the coal mine.
Humanity has one major advantage over the other powers. Humanity is not alone, and is improving far more rapidly than any other power. Playing for time is the best victory that humanity can achieve, because there is no point in achieving a phyrric victory now when you can stall and get a decisive victory later. Especially with the Flame, the Light, and Blood working to preserve humanity.
@@maledwarfwarrior Sounds hopeful, but sadly the second game proves you very wrong.^^ Though it makes for an interesting Black Reliquary style mod.^^

"Enraged by your own weakness, you venture deeper and yet deeper into the excavation, in search of a solution, a... greater power. And in the depth of the pit you found it! The thing, entwined in an amalgamation of eldritch being and the ancestor twisted flesh and warped mind. You put down the ancestor, the root of all this misery, for good, but hesitated when approaching the heart of The Thing. The sickening sweet temptation of power pulled you in, and in a lapse of judgement, or maybe fated, you embrace it, take it in, becoming its herald. A herald for the end time."
I gotta give props to Stuart Chatwood on the music for this area, with more synthesized instrumentation in an otherwise mostly orchestral soundtrack, emphasizing how this place is just...wrong.
okay maybe the miller attacks the party to stop them from being taken over by the eldritch influence
and the ancestor truly feels no regret or guilt for what he has done to the miller his family and land
The Thing From The Stars is one of the best bosses! Extraordinary lore, visual design, and ability design, with some of the best rewards out there, the Prismatic quirks. It is so painful to fight, though!
Is the definition of DnD Master's hostile monster that literally counters everything but piercing and they had to give him a self destruct

A real mystery is what exactly is this "miraculous bounty" the Ancestor "reaped from beyond the void"? It couldn't have been financial gain because he was already dead when it arrived. Was the Sleeper perhaps a contingency plan in case his plots for the Thing Beneath the Manor went awry?
Perhaps the Sleeper is exactly why this time loop occurs
@@narutony1916I believe the sleeper is the reason that we are in the loop. It makes no sense otherwise. The heart wants all to be one with it again as it once was, and every time we kill it, it destroys the world, and the sleeper. The sleeper has to reset or die. The sleeper is far more powerful than the heart but it’s potential has been limited and caged in, but it is still able to reset to a time before the planet was destroyed.
I like to imagine that the "memories" you get are pieces of a ritual. Rebuilding the mill is sending the sleeper back to the stars

glad to see that you are still making those, the farmstead is one of my favorite locations in the game, the lovecraft inspiration, the way in wich twist and warps the time around it, its just espectacular, thanks for making this video!
It would have been interesting to see how different eldritch powers interact with each other.
Is the Sleeper a parasite/symbiote that can co-exist with the Heart? Is it a scavenger, waiting to pick off whatever the Heart leaves behind when it wakes? Is it a predator that's trying to prey on the Heart while it's vulnerable?

Only time will tell if more events in the first game will effect the ones in the second one

I had not expected to hear a theremin in the Darkest Dungeon Soundtrack, but I'm glad I did.
Personal theory: the Miller formed some kind of pact to become an avatar for the Sleeper in exchange for his wife being spared, explaining both why she hasn't turned hostile (yet) and why he isn't the Husk enemy type, instead being a Poor Soul. So upon seeing someone else holding Mildred's Locket, he discovers the tragic fate of his Immortal Beloved.
Good thing to take the edge of between depression, uncertainty about my studies and the war in the east.

Just a little question, since i missed out on The Color of Madness. Where exactly it is stated, that the barrier is weakening?
I believe it was either in the loading screen text or on the official website when it released.
@@MiskatonicMemorialist I think the 'barrier weakening' means that the Heroes can finally go into the Farmstead, as if it was a region that had been there all along but we couldn't even perceive it because of the barrier. After all, everything we see is made of color...

I am pretty sure you can encounter the thing from the stars as one of the bosses during farmstead waves after the sleeper, just a fact
Yeaaaaaah in hindsight I realized that but from a narrative standpoint, you're still more likely to see Thing roaming the Estate than in the Farmstead.

It is weird how the game 🎮 acknowledges the ancestor is evil 😈, but never comments on you going around exterminating a bunch of sapient beings trying to live their best lives for no crime or no evidence of a crime. All while not just sealing the dungeon entrances.
It is better if you imagine that the parties self-form and are just doing this because they need money 💰 to eat 🥘. And you are just there trying to make easy money 💰 managing their needs.
Also, there is no way the hamlet residents are not just used to everything by now and planned their lives around it.
by sealing the dungeon entrances you only delay the darkness from breaking out
also for most of these pitiful beasts death is a mercy
