I'm 6'1", 210 lbs. I've put over 320 miles on my first pair of Mach 5s. The outsole has significant wear but the midsole foam is still perfect - no creasing, lots of energy return, and still soft enough for long runs. The upper is perfect besides being dirty. It's a crazy good shoe.
I've done 195km in my Mach 5, and they barely look used. They really are amazing. I love them so much, and I'm getting another pair when these have to retire. Best shoe I've ever tried.
Just hit 800k last week on my Mach 5s and they’re still going strong, I’ve used these for everything, easy runs, long runs, tempos, intervals, park run pb’s, even my first race at the half marathon, best shoe I’ve bought
@@zenitsu_00 mine were absolutely fine, hung them up after 1000k cause the worn padding was over working my achilies but they still had tread on the bottom. All depends on technique tho, if you drag your feet and scrape your shoes they definitely wouldn’t last as long. I wear mine for work now and they’re still comfier than 90% of my shoes
I agree 100%! They are one of my favorite shoes period. They just disappear on foot, buttery smooth! Better than Endo Speed and Novablast in my opinion.
Nearly 450 miles into my pair and they've been fantastic. Definitely my shoe of the year and replaced the Floatride as my daily trainer. Well under £100 now as well.
On your comment about the environment I don't mind having multiple shoes, but they need to go up to 600 miles before retiring. So thanks for the longer term review, so much more use than first impression videos for me. Keep up the great work
Hi Richard (Kieran here) the longevity of the shoes is now something I think is hugely important from an environmental perspective. No reason we shouldn't have shoes that go 600 miles. We should be demanding that I think.

Have just gone over 1100k in my mach 5s as my daily trainer. Run on good mixture of trails, dirt and road. Sure they are showing wear and tear but still performing really well plus they are super comfortable. IMO the quality is great and wouldn't worry about durability with these.
I'm up to 530 miles in the Mach 4 and its still going strong, if the 5 is better it must be some shoe. I bought the Endorphin speed 2 on sale earlier this year but I think the Mach tops it as a more versatile shoe that can do everything.

I put 575km on my first pair of Mach4, over 300km on my 2nd pair so far. Durability issues are completely overblown. And most of the outsole wear is from my longer 20+ KM runs where my form starts to breakdown and I see minor wear on the outer heel. I now use the shoe for daily training (5-15km runs) in spring/summer/fall and warmer winter days. Since the midsole can noticeably firm up in colder weather. From everything I heard of the Mach5 vs Mach4, the upgrade is negligible, so I'd take a discounted Mach4 over a Mach5 everytime.
@@hexfire Medial side pronation. Which occurs with most of my shoes regardless of the model/company around 500KM. Once I start to feel inner shin tenderness post run, it is generally time to retire the shoe. Which prevents injury.

Like you say they can cope with anything and I've been wearing them for everything from easy runs right up to big reps sessions. I was a die hard endorphin speed fan but honestly I'm enjoying these even more. Plus they can be found for under £100. Love the channel, cheers
Love the Mach 5 (just like the Mach 4 before it). Use it for a variety of running. While the bounce is still there after 500km, the outsole has worn down and I'll be lucky to get to 600km. While this isn't as good as the Mach 4 (got 800km+ out of each pair I had) it's way better than the Rincon 3 which gave up around 200km.
Love my Mach 4, 700km on them now and the midsole is starting to lose some bounce compare to when i first got it. Probably will retire it at 800km and get a Mach 5 for replacement. Great review btw 👍
Avoid treadmill run on Mach series. My Mach 4 outsole was deteriorated very quick on it. I just bought Mach 5 at 100 USD for my first marathon race. Hopefully, it will served me well.
Hoka Mach 5, costs 140 euros in Germany, Novablast 2 you can also find at 100 euros or even under 100. But Novablast 2, it's the winner. I love Novablast 2. I use them on my runs for 8 or 10km tempo run. They're fantastic, better than novablast 3, that they own. I also own hoka mach 4, but I only use them for the city and walks.
Do you find it significantly softer than Mach 4 over time or just marginally? I've got the 4 up to 450km and it's a bit too firm for my tastes. Excellent shoe if you like/need that. Durability is arguably better than my old Bondi 6s.
I’m looking to get myself a pair of these shoes. I’ve typically wore Brooks Ghosts in the past and I’ve loved them. I know the drop in the Ghosts is much bigger then in the Mach 5, do you think this would cause me to dislike them?
I’ve done 400km in mach 4 and still ok… most comfortable in my rotation, not sure on mach 5 as that thin tongue is a change that may be an issue with my sensitivity to tensonitus

I have run 20k in mine and the heel pattern has gone completely. I’ve put 220k on the speed 3 and already the heel area looks worse. I think it hugely depends on how you land in these…I can’t see me getting more than 100 miles out of mine …they feel lovely but they do need to change the sole and add a bit of harder wearing areas for what 10 grams?
Same here. My Mach 4s are no where near as durable as my other shoes. I am a shuffler and wear the side of the heel quickly. Not an issue in Saucony shoes which last longer than any of my Hoka. Pity since I enjoy the ride.
Yes, this shoe is definitely not for those prone to poorer form/mechanics for whatever reason(s). Gotta choose other shoes then, but seriously it's probably better to first improve on the form. Seen another channel reporting 200+ miles for his Mach 5 (Filip Latocha). So for those folks who are comparing usable mileage of shoes if they are sensitive on the shoe price/mileage and they do a lot of training miles, it's just the question of how much longer wearing the other shoes with outsoles are vs the Mach 5, relatively speaking.
Best that you have very good form/mechanics if you are aiming to get this one, eg if you are susceptible to a big drop in form over long distances. Filip Latocha channel reported his to be lasting only 200+ miles only. e b7tFddJj2W8 if you wanna copy and paste in the youtube URL. Of course, other shoes would have a corresponding drop in outsole total mileage as well, it's just a matter of relative comparison then.
I love these shoes and agree with all of the things you said. However, I am on 100 miles and my outsole looks much worse than yours, hope they survive at least 300mi
My UK 9 black are 223/225 grams/shoe, so extremely light, i think i will use this at the next marathon instead of Pegasus turbo 2, is a very twisty road 74 turns and more than half are 180* i do no trust the Vaporfly for this track :)
I really want a faster shoe for workouts and up tempo long runs that doesn’t have a plate. These seem perfect and yet, everything I read or watch says the Speed 3 is the better/more versatile shoe. I love that orange and blue colorway. 😂 I cannot say the same for the Speed 3 colorways.
Mach 5 is the better all around shoe. It’s more comfortable at slower paces than the speed 3. The Mach 5 feels good at faster paces because it’s light, has the rocker and is just overall very natural feeling. However, the speed 3 clearly has better energy return at faster paces, so I’d definitely rather race in the speeds than the machs.

I would consider these AKOH if they had an outsole (i fell a few years back on a steel grating while walking with rubberized outsoled shoe - no a good memory).

Where are you seeing the wear? Getting a sense from comments that it might depend on a lot on how you're striking in these.

I have a 10.5us in endorphin speed 3, that fit perfect, would you recommend same size for hoka mach 5s???
