  • The Hoka Clifton 9 and Mach 5 are two shoes in Hoka's collection you can class as solid daily trainers. These are the shoes that on paper, should be able to cover a range of runs whether you're keeping it short or going much longer.
    Both these shoes sit at around the same price, so if you were looking to pick up one of them, which one should you buy? Testers Nick and Mike offer their take on how the new Clifton and latest Mach compare and pick the one that would make it into their rotations.

    I’ve run in both. Like the Clifton 9 more: more protection for long training runs and Mach 5 wore out quickly. AND switching to racing shoes is really fun after the Clifton.

    As a 200lb'er I have the mach 4 and clifton 8, just received the clifton 9. I love the mach 4 but ultimately I don't feel like it has enough cushion to be my "every day" shoe. I use it for track work and intervals

    I’ve been literally struggling deciding on rebuying the mach 5, which I love, vs trying out the Clifton 9 when I didn’t fully enjoy the Clifton 8. This video helped greatly with my decision, time for another pair of Mach 5’s. 🥳

      the clifton 9s are markedly better than the previous gens. i immediately felt like i could go faster in the 9 when compared to the 8

    Enjoyable review, guys. Really appreciated the slo- mo side by side footage of each shoe. I hope we see more of this in future testing 👍.

    Y’all are spot on about the clifton 9s no speed in them just cushion chill run

    The shoes are similar but the Mach beats the clifton in every category. You don't notice unless you have both but once youve tried both, the clifon doesn't make sense anymore

    Got both prefer the clifton 9. Wider mid foot , softer heel and more of a all rounder. Not much weight difference can still pick up the pace and the out sole on the clifton well we don't even need to mention that. The mach needs rubber.

    I use the Mach 5 for my daily faster, longer runs and switch to my Clifton 8 when it’s raining or to run with my dog 😅. I need to go to my local shoe store to get the feel of the Clifton 9 prior to purchasing them.

      Why anyone would buy a shoe without trying them on is beyond me. If you live where no one sells shoes I guess you have to.

    Which do you want to recommend clifton 9 or mach 5 to running beginners?

    • @stormtrooper9404
      @stormtrooper9404 ปีที่แล้ว

      Neither!
      For that matter, nothing with soft and thick foam!
      Take a cheap runfalcon 2,3 from Adidas and gain a strength on your feet and muscles. Learn proper technique and gain endurance.
      When you will be able to run 21km in under 7min pace, than you will feel and appreciate these shoes…

    Hi, what pace are we talk about in video? Cause if for them easy run is 4:00-4:30/km and speed run is 3:00-3:30 Mach5 is OK, but for my easy run is 5:30-6:00 and speed run is 4:30-5:00/km Clifton9 is waaaaaay OK. Am I right?

    • @user-hy6tl6su4z
      @user-hy6tl6su4z 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      exactly. I wish there was a way to compare a 5k time on both. What is an easy/moderate pace is very subjective.

    Make a mach 5 with rubber on the bottom and I will buy it. I love the feel, I am too rough on exposed foam and always feel slippy on it after I break it in.

    Nice work, guys. I'm liking the Clifton 9 a lot. Never tried the Mach but I'm big fan of the Rincon(2), would love to see a side-by-side comparison of those of two, esp. when the Rincon 4 comes out (assuming it does).

      I tried both . Mach 5 was slightly more comfortable and felt faster. I went with the Clifton 9 because of the outersole . The Mach 5 isn’t as durable because it has no outer sole .

    i haven't worn the clifton's in a long time, since version 3. Starting to get back into entering road racing again, and am considering these 2 for the actual race. Is cushioning that noticeable between the 2? I'm getting older now, so a softer landing is preferable for me. Have a half-marathon coming up in about 5 and a half months from now
