I love it how, in the end of the game,, they just casually sit on an airplane. They're not blown away, they're not suffocating being above the clouds, nor are they going blind or frostbitten from ultraviolet rays and below, way below freezing temperatures that high in the atmosphere.
This is my first experience with PS2 games. I was blown away by the graphics at the time. N the vibrations on the ps2 controller. It was a luxury experience.

What an awesome game! I bought it when it came out. Never heard much about it, but when I saw it looked like classic contra, I had to buy it. Seemed like not too many people knew about it. I was able to beat it loosing very few lives, and once beat it only loosing one life. I could never beat it loosing no lives to get the secret ending. I guess I never really knew that you could get the secret ending if you restarted the level and beat it not loosing any lives. I always tried to one shot the game. Years later I let someone borrow it, and never got it back!! Dang it!! But I have emulated it since. I would often play it with my cousin, and we could beat it together. I feel like I got a little better at it, but he got pretty good at it too. Really difficult game, but totally beatable if you get good at it! Fun times!!
CD games like this still exist, just in the indie space. Look up Blazing Chrome, an awesome Contra inspired 2d run n gun. Also Varfaris, another kickass run n gun game, both fantastic, also Cuphead. Just gotta find them
I played this with my roommate back in the day. It took us a long time to beat, it wasn’t easy. Oddly I don’t remember the cut scenes. We must have skipped them. But I remember every part of every level clearly, and I played it what 20 years ago. If you ever beat this game you understand. Best Contra game in my opinion but I also loved Contra 3 alien wars which this game draws from heavily
No Contra game should be remastered. This should be reissued. A lot of the Contra games hold up because of control and challenge. Better graphics won't change that. The original NES game is still a great game despite being 33 years old. Remastering doesn't make the game better.
It most definitely would not sell like crazy, although I think fans would be receptive to it more now than they were then. Back then everyone wanted to see how old 2D games would evolve into the 3D space. Shattered soldier sticking to the old formula and being a short game bored a lot of people. Until proven otherwise, Contra is just not meant to be full 3D.
@@denimchicken104 What do you mean Contra was never meant to be in full 3D? This game has done an excellent job in that department (despite using the same traditional gameplay formula from the 2D games) and it proves what it takes to break the limits of 2D gaming if you want to go on full crazy and destructive.

The fire gun was always the strongest and I like how in this one they gave you all the guns to rotate as opposed to the other ones that had them fly in the little cloud things and sometimes you missed the gun you really needed for the stage or the boss fight.
When I was younger I played this game a lot and made it to 46:00 in this video. As TH-cam didn't exist, I had to find all the solutions myself. Also, even though I made it this far, I never knew how close I was to beating it. This makes me want to dust off my PS2.
this is the hardest contra game of all but also one of the best, the japanese title of the game is Shin Kontora which means "True Contra" withouth a doubt the unrelentless action and difficulty honors the name
A real Contra game. The final boss was a bit weak and they did dirty my boy Lance, but otherwise, most of the boss monster designs were excellent. Didn't know the story actually progressed after Contra 3 LOL. Amazingly, a modern game like Contra Operation Galuga cannot reproduce these visual effects 24 years later!
Mr. Heli Robo: aw crap how many times I've been destroyed? First by an overpowered human Second by Slave Beast Taka Third by an accident Mr. Heli Robo: wow I got destroyed 3 times
That 6-in-1 man-portable combat weapon is awesome, although some of my friends disliked it (lack of choice, LOL). It reminds me a lot of the A-B-C-D weapon choices in Contra Hard Corps, where your character will naturally acquire all the weapons if you do not die (easier on the JPN version since you can take up to 2 hits without losing a life).
Played this with my brother alot bck then but man this game was tough amazing to see someone master this game contra hard corps was great and this game was amazing too your awesome congrats

No system will ever be that cool again.
This game was rough. After lots of practice I finally got S across the board for that stupid ending. Anyway, while I wasn't wild for the games overall presentation. It did maintain that Contra attitude. I didnt care for Neo either and contra went flat on its face, until 4. Still this Contra held some weight in its traditional design methods. The one gripe I had was that the alien blood was a silly green color. I say this because the actual artifact used human DNA to create itself. So the blood being green felt a bit off to me.
My friend was nasty like this at this game. Could believe some of the close calls he would pull off, all just by muscle memory nd memorization. Awesome to watch.
And that's what messes a game like his up.... You have to play it over a million times in order to figure out what's coming, how to avoid it and in this version, what gun mode to use. That kind of game design really makes the game less fun because as a player, you have to become a robot in that way. The game should have been developed to give players time to assess the moment and dodge a threat in which ever way they could instead of it being a fixed way and part of developing that way, is allowing enemy spawning to be more random at positions along with random AI, that decides the way they're going to attack the human player but in any case, nothing should be "undodgeable" or needing a fixed moment or time to do it. Such an algorithm concept would also add to re-play value, since none of the enemies will appear at fixed intervals doing the same kind of attack on cue. I still say Contra 1 was the best. Loved that game.
For me the monster that gave me legit nightmares and scared the shit out of me is that Fish human hybrid Jaimen Gyu , God god that boss in the water tank scared me and still to this day , The way he screams and his face , Yeeeeeeesh 😳😣😨
The absolutely best thing about this game will always be its fucking amazing soundtrack. It's easily one of the best videogame soundtracks of all time. That… and that stupid-ass video at 49:20, which features the Great Value version of Rocket Knight and the development team doing the audio for the whole thing. It's so stupid it's funny. What a shame that Konami is uncapable to make a good Contra these days… or even a half-decent one (Rogue Corps is such a god-awful bastardization that doesn't even deserve to be a Contra game at all)
I was obsessed with Donuts when I was 4 or 5. I woke up in the middle of the night, got outta bed (I slept in with my mom and dad a lot) grabbed this game and started eating it. "What's that sound? ". The lights turn on, I look over at my dad. Don't remember exactly what he said, but I think he was confused, concerned, upset and mad. For the next couple years my family would give me glazed donuts. Now I hate donuts. This game ruined Donuts for me. But man is it nostalgic looking back at this game.
One of the most fulfilling S-Rank achievements in the history of video gaming.....is thereafter followed by one of the worst S-Rank awards in the history of video gaming. (I didn't watch this video all the way to the end, but I achieved this rank myself. I just came here to watch and relive in my mind, the fight against the transforming jet/robot boss. Just in case they don't show you what it is at the end of this video, it's a very short video involving a little bunny like figure hopping through grass. And that's it.)
This game is cake!! If you replayed it 89 times. Trial and error. Just like a Sonic game. Trial and error. But at least while you error, the games graphics and dynamics are blowing you away. The game actually makes u wanna keep trying over and over cause it's so damn dope!! You want to see what happens next. They have a new 2024 version that's almost exactly like this for ps5.
I love how Lance is like, I’ll show you! And he turns into a giant cockroach filled chamber with a pus dripping beating heart. Then he turns into a mucous filled room with two ghastly giant beetles made of rusty metal. Then he turns into an upside down demon head with giant metallic snakes. Then, he falls on his back, back in human form, and says, sorry Bill… I’m just misunderstood.
I always liked the look of this with Twisted Metal Black. It was kind of like if the driver's car ran out of a gas and was like "fuck this" and just started on foot.

Man this just screams the 00's and I kinda love it. XD
Who's here after watching contra rouge corps????
This is most epic contra
Is nobody going to mention that this game killed off Lance Bean?
The Luigi to Bill Raizer's Mario?
This made me cry my eyes out as a kid...
this game was so much fun, I enjoyed the co-op mode with my neighbor
One of the most fulfilling S-Rank achievements in the history of video gaming.....is thereafter followed by one of the worst S-Rank awards in the history of video gaming.
(I didn't watch this video all the way to the end, but I achieved this rank myself. I just came here to watch and relive in my mind, the fight against the transforming jet/robot boss.
Just in case they don't show you what it is at the end of this video, it's a very short video involving a little bunny like figure hopping through grass. And that's it.)
Contra: Shattered Sound
xD Good game good game.
No shit man this game is hard but fair once you mastered the controls
I love how Lance is like, I’ll show you! And he turns into a giant cockroach filled chamber with a pus dripping beating heart. Then he turns into a mucous filled room with two ghastly giant beetles made of rusty metal. Then he turns into an upside down demon head with giant metallic snakes. Then, he falls on his back, back in human form, and says, sorry Bill… I’m just misunderstood.
It's hard af, but after some time it's like a dance.
This is a hard game that I can say I got really gud at it.
Super short and ultra sweet.
29:14 scarred me as a kid
Im still having nightmares with this game, and im still loving this game
Besides the cheesy cutscenes, this is what a modern Contra should be!
I love this attempt at what a next-gen Contra game should be like!
How many set pieces does your stage need!?
Contra: ALL OF THEM.
Shattered Soldier and Neo Contra all the way.
Really loved this game. They should have continued the franchise.
If only we didn't have Contra: Rogue Corps...
I always liked the look of this with Twisted Metal Black. It was kind of like if the driver's car ran out of a gas and was like "fuck this" and just started on foot.
