Imagine how invincible a normal Human conscript into the Guard would feel if they got the chance to fight next to a Space Marine? I bet that feeling would never leave them, assuming they survived the battle. I like in how some lore the Guards inspire even the Marines and the Marines inspire the Guards to greater things.

Few things are as beautiful as one animation I saw, a lone guardsman about to be overrun by tyranids, cried out his final prayer to the God Emperor, and as he said "The Emperor Protects" we hear the heavy thump of an Astartes followed by "Yes, he does." (Or something like that, it's been a while.) But that moment when the Marine was impressed by his resolve and fought back to back with a lowly guardsman was beautiful.
Correction, it was a short film, Guardsman, and I missrembered it a bit. The Marine said "You shall know no fear" gentle bitchslapped the guardsman to the ground and stood over him and went full rip and tear to protect him.
Astartes and sorroritas may hog the spotlight, but, the imperium was built by the blood and bones of the Imperial armies , it is yet maintained by the sacrifices of the Imperial Guard. Ordinary un-augmented humans , against forces that give even Astartes pause. All honour to them! Emperor gather their brave souls.
I do not want to be the "actualy..." guy here, but Imperium was built litteraly around space marines and their crusading fleets. Those fleets were supported by regular armies, but in the times of Imperium founding, space marines truly were the crux of imperial might that got shit done. Held by sacrifices of -Astra Militarum- err -Wall of Guns- , I mean Imperial Guard without doubt. But built by Big E, his Primarchs and their legions.
I know this late but yes. A space marine in one of the stories once effectively said "I"m not brave. I am a genetically engineered super soldier designed by the Emperor. I march into battle with the finest equipment the Imperium can produce. They have a las-rifle and a flak jacket. They are brave"

It takes hundreds of years in the vile Warp and unholy sorcery to train and equip one Chaos Space Marine. It takes two minutes for one determined guardsman to call in the artillery strike that will wipe said Marine off the face of the universe.
Man I love the imperial guardsman. I want to be an imperial guardsman I want to charge head first into a chaos marine or a xeno. I want to die gloriously for a imperium that won’t remember me and I will happily do it in every life I have.
Will say out of all the gaurd I would want Krieg sent to my world of it was invaided. Then at the very least I know it was taken back and maybe even in better management. I doubt I would survive myself but at least I know died I beside some of the emperors finest.

There's a fun fact about lasguns that not many people realize. While yes, they Cauterise wounds instantly on impact due to high heat, this is also the source of much more harmful damage. The same heat causes rapid and spontaneous boiling and evaporation of fluid in the body. Which violently expands. Causing micro explosions of steam vapor throughout the wound channel.

greater daemon or nurgle: appears standard guardsmen: i need a melta and vortex grenades as well as much covering fire as possible. commisar: wait how'd you know what a vortex grenade is and what are you doing? guardsmen: the emperor's mercy( as he runs at the greater daemon of nurgle).
Armed with only cheaply made armor they stand as the shields of the Imperium, with their backs to the wall they willingly fight to the last, you'll see a Space Marine and give them the respect they deserve, but when you look at a guardsman you will salute for they serve to the end of their short rope with nothing but pride.
I like Space Marines / Adeptus Astartes as much as any other imperium fan, but i'm more of a BIG fan of the Astra Militarum and its Imperial Guard regiments, especially the Cadians, i used to have catachans..but i then moved onto Cadians as they had that more space-trooper theme to them, similiar to starship troopers, plus the fact that the Space marines respect cadians a helluva lot says alot about cadians in general!. Cadia Stands!. Also it is true, that the guard do 99% of the work and the space marines swoop in and take all the credit in most cases, unless thats not true...i honestly would stick with the guard through and through, because they don't have any fancy power armour or anything like that, they just have pure faith,courage,bravery and guts behind a Lasgun and everything else and fighting pretty much all of the imperiums enemies non-stop.

This is so much honoring of human spirit, as imperial guard to marines are defenders of humanity I all ways salute the soldiers fictional and real how defend their nation and loved ones.
I do love the fact that the Cadians in this are shown to be more human compared to the cloned army almost machine like mentality of the Kriegsman.

I like Space Marines / Adeptus Astartes as much as any other imperium fan, but i'm more of a BIG fan of the Astra Militarum and its Imperial Guard regiments, especially the Cadians, i used to have catachans..but i then moved onto Cadians as they had that more space-trooper theme to them, similiar to starship troopers, plus the fact that the Space marines respect cadians a helluva lot says alot about cadians in general!.

Also it is true, that the guard do 99% of the work and the space marines swoop in and take all the credit in most cases, unless thats not true...i honestly would stick with the guard through and through, because they don't have any fancy power armour or anything like that, they just have pure faith,courage,bravery and guts behind a Lasgun and everything else and fighting pretty much all of the imperiums enemies non-stop.
The guard do the vast majority of fighting against every known enemy of man they number in the trillions compared to the few million space mariens.

Depends on the planet, if they are cadians then I'd say about 20, Kriegers are 15
Whereas the average life expectancy is 15 hours.
