The death corps are one of the worst imperial armies you could have to face as an enemy. They have a fanaticism that rivals even space marines. And a fearlessness that rivals the marines as well.
The thing is even a titan is better than them Why ? A titan, tho is powerful and all, cant waste all it weaponry on a single soldier, so you can run from it your comrades who gonna kill you would just be wasted by that titan Krieg ? They make sure no enemies can go off their deathlist, you escape the battle and flee ? They will make sure they find you and purge you in the bloodiest way there is, even if they must go through mountains, swim down the deepest ocean, uproot even the strongest fortress out there, they WILL find you and finish you off
My favorite line in this is “There’s a thunder in the east, it’s an attack of the deceased.” The reason Kriegers are so effective in war is that they’ve already accepted the fact they’re dead, and knowing either you’re already dead or will be soon means there’s no reason to be afraid, you’re just embracing the inevitable, and it might as well be now instead of later. The moral of the story is that if you fight every day like it’s your last day, you’ll never have a reason to be scared again. I hope this helps someone out there.
You know what’s darkly hilarious about this? It sounds like something Angron, a traitor primarch, once said. “The warrior who fights to live has no defence against the warrior who doesn’t care if he dies. And Khârn, everyone wants to live.”
This song is actually about Russians being hit with chlorine and bromine gas. The effects were horrific and unsurvivable. Nobody knows exactly why but despite their injuries the few soldiers left charged at the Germans. The sight of a hundred Russians charging at them headlong despite dissolving in the hydrochloric acid from the chlorine combining with the moisture in the air and coughing up blood and chunks of their own lungs made the German soldiers panic and flee in terror convinced that they were being attacked by the undead.

In 40k most cavalry (horse) regiments are used as skirmishers to just commit to hit and run engagements. The Death Korps Death Riders are different in that they're a straight up assault regiment. They can do that because their horses aren't really "horses". They're genetically modified to the point that you could hardly call them horses. Think of them as the Astartes of the equine world and you get the idea. It is not unheard of for one to take bolter rounds to the chest and neck and still keep going.
Not to mention some units have lances that will explode on contact. I knew a guy that after his horse died he bayonet charged a nurglite demon and was blasted back 10 Terran meters
For those who want a summary of how brutal, fatalistic and grim the Death Korps are: They're the only recorded Guard regiment to have bullied and even executed a *Commissar* for cowardice.
@@__mindflayer__ In the codex revisions for specific Guardsmen Units. For Krieg it mentions that Commissars have several problems. First of which is they have to try and hold back the Kriegers from charging too much. Second of which is a lot of Commissars end up getting killed as their job is to do heroic acts of bravery to improve morale...but how do you out heroic an entire army willing to charge into fortified positions and enter death traps willingly? So they end up killed by trying to out hero the Krieg too. Then there is the fact that Krieg aren't dumb, but will never order a full retreat and did on one occasion kill a Commissar for ordering a retreat. Catachan will kill Commissars for throwing their weight around too much. Cadians and First Born both have outright shot Commissars for trying to change orders their Generals have given. Armageddon Steel Legion has literally driven over a Commissar with a tank. Commissars are not technically inside the rank structure quite the way people think they are.

I remember the day my Primarch, Roboute Guilliman, asked me a question about the Kriegsman. It was a mundane question, one he could have even guessed the answer to. The question itself birthed a litany of other questions and a single teared statement. "Why do they wear the masks?" I turned my head to meet his eyes and I wondered at the question, he meant it literally, he didn't know what they were, rare that my Primarch would be ignorant of anything, especially history. "They are the Death Korps of Krieg, they always wear them, their homeworld has a toxic atmosphere." My Primarch nodded, I could still see in his expression that another curiosity lingered, and then he gave words to the emotion. "They never remove them? Why? This atmosphere isn't toxic." Instead of answering I shook my head at the ground, it was a tragic tale, gifting their history any thoughts would bring most to their knees, even Space Marines. "Kriegsman believe that their war, their duty, is everlasting. They think that they need to be ready to fulfill the Emperor's will at any moment. They're not so equipped for war as they are equipped for their own death, to slow their impending doom so they might give the Emperor more use, no matter how miniscule it is, they will give it gladly. It's how their entire planet is." His eyes tracked mine and maybe he saw my internal agony, I had weathered a thousand battles, but I had never relayed the history of Krieg, the history of their heresy. "Their entire planet, is like this? Grim, inhuman, emotionless... soulless? Why?" I wanted to refuse to answer his questions, but I couldn't. "The sons of Krieg are not as you say, not soulless, they live their lives for the Emperor. I once visited Krieg, the planet was a hellscape. A hellscape devoid of the Emperor's grace and beauty, it was a place where the Emperor's Peace would be refused by its populace, they would believe that their own lives were worth less than the mercy of death. Most of these soldiers are children, sons fighting so the war their father's waged might be forgiven." The words did not strike true with the Primarch, there were still questions unanswered, a history he did not understand. So I told him of the beginning, the treachery of Krieg's highlords. The resistance that sprouted from Colonel Jurten, his cry for help that went unheard into the darkness, and then his headlong charge into the jaws of death, his faith in the Emperor alone guiding him. I told him of the war, the brutal unyielding war that never ended. The generational trenches that spread across the entirety of Krieg, the dried ocens that turned into fields of lasgun fire and artillery barrages. The genetically enhanced beasts that carried faithful soldiers into the fray of the heaviest combat, equipped to die, never to survive. "Five hundred years, Krieg fought for five hundred years in unending war. Jurten's own forces were all dead before the end of the first decade but Krieg's sons and daughters bred a new army. An army that marched over the luscious fields that once existed and left war in their wake. They finally won the war after trillions had been killed, returned to the fold, and greeted the Imperium with heavy hearts." My heart was caught in my words, it was agonizing to relay it, to say the truth. "They believe that they are the arch traitors, the betrayers, the worst of heretics, that theirs is a lineage of the unfaithful, their blood is the blood of heathens. The people of Krieg believe it is their duty to atone, for eternity, for their crimes. They produce nothing, they build nothing, but they have their sons. The sons they throw away, because traitors deserve to die. Ever since they returned to the Imperium they have given everything away freely. To them every Krieger, every child soldier they send into the boiling heat of battle, deserves only death. When they die, they only see a number lost, equipment to scavenge, a heretic dead. They will continue to atone for crimes that weren't even their own, and they will do it without question, forever. They can never be forgiven, they *know* this is as a fact. Yet I have heard them in their dying breaths, all of them, begging for the Emperor's forgiveness." I felt the tears roll down my cheeks, the faith of the lowliest Kriegsman could test that of even the hardest Astartes, their souls beget only agony. "That's not true." My Primarch spoke, overcome with grief I had somehow forgotten his presence, turning to him in his pause I could see the only tear to ever be produced by Roboute Guilliman fall from his glistening eyes. "I know my Father's heart well, they were forgiven long ago. They achieved atonement, five hundred years of it."
The Death Korps of Krieg are literally the epitome of Warhammer. Not the legendary Astartes, or the forces of Chaos, or even the act of Exterminatus. It is the Death Korps of Krieg, literally a battalion of ordinary humans, so dedicated to the cause, that they will *WILLINGLY* charge into impossible odds. These guys aren’t even genetically modified in any way, they’re literally just us. And yet, unlike so many other Guardsmen regiments, they don’t falter. Even in scenarios that would leave other regiments crying for Astartes support, the Death Korps of Krieg don’t need Astartes support, because their dedication to the God-Emperor of Mankind makes themselves the only support they need to take on the forces of Chaos. The Death Korps of Krieg are in themselves, the most terrifying force in the Warhammer 40k universe. Not even death itself is enough to make them falter, because to them, death is the greatest honor.
Even Chaos thinks twice about going toe to toe with the Death Korps. There is no winning. You loose. Every time. It may take days or centuries, but eventually, the Death Korps will win
Warhammer 40k - Death Korps of Krieg A game like Battlefield 1's opening. When one soldier dies the camera transitions to another on the battlefield and the game continues. You don't even need a story or mission structure. Just have a few maps where this goes on endlessly. Will be the greatest Warhammer 40k game of all time.
It could be glorious. Could even have multiplayer the way Battlefront did multiplayer on PS2. You have a few human players per side, but the majority of the actors on the field are AI controlled squads. Battlefront 2's Hero system (still talking about the PS2 game) can even come into play, earning points to spawn heroes at objectives across the map. Space marines or other characters as appropriate. I would play the shite out of that.

For those unfamiliar w/ the significance of what's going on (Unlikely, considering you're on a 40K vid, but I digress) the Death Korps of Krieg are genuinely a disturbing force even amongst the backdrop of the 40th millenia of Human History. During the Horus Heresy (wherein nearly half of all humanity's armed forces broke away and went rogue in service to dark gods) their world didn't answer the call to aid Earth (Terra in 40K's setting) as they were embroiled in a civil war so severe they basically engulfed their world in nuclear fire to exterminate the dissidents. Despite this, the loyalists were partially chastised and equally felt so disheartened that they couldn't answer in humanity's most dire hour that the Death Korps were formed. Every family is expected to give up their first-born in service to the Imperium's military, if you can't have kids (Which many can't), you will be cloned. The technology to do so is heretical to the nth degree but the level of devotion this planet has given to the imperium is just so jaw-droppingly terrifying that it is allowed. It is considered entirely normal for the Death Korps to be wiped out to the last man or at the very least 90% losses due to them fixing bayonets and charging WW1 western front style into the enemy's defenses or just having absolutely 0 self-preservation. It says a great deal about the Death Korps of Krieg that Commissars attached to them, who in any other regiment would execute traitors and cowards have to deliberately threaten and cajole their wards NOT to throw their lives away in suicidal death charges.
Small correction. The "every family gives their firstborn" is about Vostroyan Firstborn Regiment. Entirely different planet and tradition Krieg conscripts litteraly every male who can be spared. If your skills are not usefull enough on Krieg itself, you get recruited. Females are left covering all kind of job positions (from menial factory work to highest levels of governence) including raising kids (if you are lucky that your father is skilled enough to remain on Krieg, you may even grow up having both mom and dad). About Death Korps of Krieg itself, over several novels, authors inclined to two views on them. One is the one you mentioned. Kriegs soldiers are almost inhuman. Do not even have use names anymore. They identify each other by their military given ID number and they completely lack self-preservation as long as they can deal damage to enemies of Imperium. Commisars here are there to stop them from wasting their lives too cheaply. But in other novels you can encounter second view - Where Kriegs soldiers are humane. They have their names which they use. They do not want to die. They do not mind going into dangerous fights, but they will keep looking for ways to survive. Small insubordinations are present as long as they are harmless to their cause. All this is underlined by brutal devotion to Imperium. If you are enemy of Imperium, there is nothing they would not do to you. Geneva convention? Not even Geneva suggestions to them. Main job of Commisars in their ranks is to facciliate comunication and cooperation with other non-Krieg regiments deployed around them, because having to deal with Kriegs regiment without any buffer like that leads to decreased morale of everyone else around :-D
@@KePzez Not exactly. As I talked about those two views that different authors have on them, in the first one they do not care about surviving. If they get order to charge straight into MG nest, they will do it without questioning or taking any cover. Even while fully knowing that they will die 100% doing that.. Their loyalty and subordination is to the max. They do not question their own value to imperium. For they know that due to acts of their ancestors, they have no value. Then the second view is where they are thinking, feeling and talking humans that desire to live. Still completely loyal and extremely disciplined, but if they would get order to charge enemy, they would look up first the safest route to do that, and they would interpret that order not as just blindly charging, but as command to destroy them. It is this second view where they go with idea that to earn forgiveness from Emperor they not only need to follow orders obediently, but that they also need to do that for as long as possible.
The shot from 2:56 until 3:02 shows up makes you realize that soldier is not a unique exception ready to sacrifice himself, I gasped in awe at the numbers of the Death Korps. It's amazing to think about.
Remember that space Marines are not 'recruited'... The first step is recruiting... But among normal people rejection of the Gene-Seed is still greater than 80%. It drops to 75% in the case of a world which breeds for a specific Genome, but even then it will still be a 3 to 1 failure to success rate. Cadia, Kreig and the other death worlds have undergone limited mutations to permit them to survive their worlds, which means that even Black Templar Gene-Seed (the most 'forgiving' of all) will have a 99% rejection rate. It is simply not cost effective to waste the limited Genetic material to attempt making an already dedicated killing machine into a marine.

The reason Kriegers are so effective in war is that they’ve already accepted the fact they’re dead, and knowing either you’re already dead or will be soon means there’s no reason to be afraid, you’re just embracing the inevitable, and it might as well be now instead of later.
The moral of the story is that if you fight every day like it’s your last day, you’ll never have a reason to be scared again. I hope this helps someone out there.

His eyes tracked mine and maybe he saw my internal agony, I had weathered a thousand battles, but I had never relayed the history of Krieg, the history of their heresy.

The death corps of krieg the best regiment
Nobody cared who they were till they put on the masks.
Fuck that's deep
The Krieg don't need Astartes support, the Astartes need Krieg support
Even Chaos thinks twice about going toe to toe with the Death Korps. There is no winning. You loose. Every time. It may take days or centuries, but eventually, the Death Korps will win

Warhammer 40k - Death Korps of Krieg
A game like Battlefield 1's opening. When one soldier dies the camera transitions to another on the battlefield and the game continues. You don't even need a story or mission structure. Just have a few maps where this goes on endlessly.
Will be the greatest Warhammer 40k game of all time.
"Shut up and take my money!"
Gimme
It would fit well with Warhammer’s themes
The camera would transition every second in charges
HMG: Why do I hear boss music?
Rotary cannons: Why do I hear a ammo shortage?
A-10: How are they not dead?
Bomber: How did you survive a F*** 10000 Lb bomb and still run
Kriegs: You fools, I wanted to die anyways
"We have more men than your ammunition."
THEY CANT STOP ALL OF US, BITCHES!
Shovels never run out of Ammo :D
"we have more bodies and guilt than you have bullets."
Entirely different planet and tradition
Krieg conscripts litteraly every male who can be spared.
@@iglidor of course they would like to survive as long as possible in the front, the longer they lived the longer they shall serve
Makes me think the Third Reich fell 1945, and hydra rose from it's ashes, only to realize they rose a little too late(40th millennium).

A Soldier of Krieg knows not Surrender, Retreat, nor Fear only to Advance and fight until Victory is Won or he Dies.

GLORIOUS DEATH VIA GRENADA!!!
Just imagine if a space marine chapter started recruiting from Krieg.
Other than above stated, how about just back down from the power armoured poster boy stool and enjoy normal humans out badassing genetically engineered super soldiers. Now giving the Sisters of Battle level gear would just be embarasingly bad for even eternal failure like Failbaddon the Armless.

After a whole entrenched army of Imperial Guard fall under siege by the sudden appearance of Plague Marines, by ugly Nurgle warbands of Chaos. The Initiative lost by an barrage of warp-influenced gas weaponry blinding the defenders. Their gasmasks on the fronts and the ventilation in the fortifications fail. All soldiers are doomed, they fall and drown in the liquids of their former lungs. Skin melt, plaststeel and buttons rust and pretty uniforms colors lost.
Another world falls, and one closer step to the fall of Terra itself.
But they do not die, no, they are granted a gift, a touch from Nurgle.
But they refuse. The temptation bites, the call of Chaos, their destined souls to be snuffed out, they stubbornly refuse. Instead they rise once again their lasguns in the direction of the foe and carry on fighting, eyes alight with a burning vengeful shine as their duty only ends with the death to the enemies of the Imperium of Man and the God Emperor. Their zeal is so strong, every damned soldier fights on till their last undying breath. One by one they can only be put down by the ugly festering hands that sought to corrupt them, an easy victory against these pitiful Guardsmen.
With the sworn enemy stuck with ridding themselves their own bewitched creations of the undying Guard that somehow refused the touch, the rest of the planets Loyalist regiments get the crucial time to recover from the surprise attack, bolster defenses and redraw the lines on the maps. Close in and encircle and reorganize, finally rallying and decisively charging to the lost sector to gain back their lost, both land and comrades.
The dumbfound legion of the rotting God is slowly pushed back, stuck in the front by their own marching apparitions, taking blows from the sides by cunning Leman Russ crews flanked by the flashlights of Chimeras providing support, and hammered from above by pre-ranged artillery strikes. The tide of battle turns, forcing the rotting enemy to turn tail and fall back.
And the undying Guardsmen? They fall, at ease, at peace, the influence of the God of rot leaving the battlefield and their broken bodies. With their duty fulfilled they die in their posts and boots, they die in glory.

At first I thought this was going to be a 40K version of the battle of Osoweic Fortress, then I realized that such a battle would be the standard M.O. for the Death Korps
* Happy German noice *
German? Kriegsman, are you saying that you're not an Imperial Guard of the Imperium of Man?! You're a heretic!
This Krieger is defective. Send them back to the factories
@@falah6398 the kriegs are basicly German soldiers.
@@samfire3067 but have the will to die like an Imperial japanese for the Emperor.
@@Knight_Trooper German Japanese soldiers.
Abaddon; I have an entire chaos army.
Guardsman; we have a well adjusted Kriegsman battalion.
Guardsman: we have a whole planet having 50 million soldiers made per year
Man, the mask noise at the end is just... so perfect. Sabaton have a fuck ton of material that goes so well with Warhammer 40k. But this one is special, it's like it was made for the Kriegers. Much love for making this video a reality
The Death Korps are so damn bloody minded that it’s impossible not to be impressed by their mettle.
Warhammer lyrics:
Turmoil at the front
Mortarion's forces on the hunt
There's a thunder in the east,
It's an attack of the deceased
They've been facing poison gas
7 million charge in mask
Turn the tide of the attack
And forced the enemy to turn back.
And that's when the Death Guard
Came matching again
(*Tartarus*) Then and again
Attack of the dead million men
Facing the lead once again
Million men
Charge again
Die again
(*Tartarus*) Then and again
Attack of the dead million men
Facing the lead once again
Million men
Charge again
Die again
Two combatants spar
The imperium against Traitors
Moving twelve battalions large
Into an Imperial counter charge
They've fighting for they're lives
As their enemies revive
Death guard won't surrender no
Striking fear into their foe
And that's when
The Death Guard
Came matching again
(*Tartarus*) Then and again
Attack of the dead million men
Facing the lead once again
Million men
Charge again
Die again
(*Tartarus*) Then and again
Attack of the dead million men
Facing the lead once again
Million men
Charge again
Die again
*Tartarus* then and again.
Put Vraks in the inaudible
The inaudible is Osowiec, the same place where the Battle Of Osowiec Fortress took place, aka, the battle the song is talking about
Good lyrics.
Only The song is about dead men charging and thaťs meaning the Death korps of krieg... duty and courage transcending death.
like the Russian men in fortress Osowiec - considered themself dead, after getting gas attacked from Prussia. 90% causality, but scattered German 7000 army. In the end only cca 100 Russian remained...
An enemy who doesn't even fear death is not scary, an enemy who fights seeking death, that's what's scariest.
Deathseekers are truely one of the worst to face as a foe. On par with those ones who never seem to stay down.
The death worlds of the imperium produces the finest soldiers of all the imperial world's for krieg and the imperium
No, other worlds produce soldiers. Krieg produces ARMIES.
@@lexsamreeth8724 they produces nothing more than they determination to die for the Holy glory of the emperor.
@@samfire3067 And that's how humanity will last.
Krieg soldiers aren't made , they are created with quite borderline tech, something that could considered as heretical for some and marvel of bio tech for other.
Krieg have no other ressource than it's Warriors, since this world is a dead .
@@lexsamreeth8724 i'd argue that they don't even produce armies, instead they produce death itself
Beautiful arrangement, everything fits perfectly, enjoyed watching it, we definitely need more of this
Colonel Jurten was one hell of a man
Who else thinks that he should be played by christoph waltz?
Ok can we just agree how absolutely hard that scene where he is running out of the trench and the chorus is playing goes.
Edit: At 0:55
It goes hard as a rock
Is it just me or do the Krieg just seem more interesting than the Space Marines?
They certainly are.
Depends on chapter to chapter as I find many other imperial guard regiments as interesting or even more than Kriegans, but that does not drop an inch of the story of them, my respect or sheer sadness towards our every gas masked warriors.
@@FrostWolfPack Oh don't get me wrong, i just meant the standard marines vs Kreigs, obviously, there are far more interesting individuals or chapters. for example, I read a bit of a story concerning the Salamanders and just the way the chapter leader spoke to the parents of their newborn and how he lead his men was very moving. It reminded me of how I viewed the Krieg, honorable and sacrificial to the very end. i'm very new to the series so hopefully i said enough for you to get what i'm referring to lol
@@chowrites6179 NA no offence taken and no offence ment. I am just happy that there is influx of interested people to the story and lore of 40k.
I would honestly say it depends on the chapter you decide to do the comparison with.
Ultramarines, definitely not as cool (maybe 30k Ultras but not 40k).
Most Imperial Fist lineage chapters, definetly.
Black Dragons, absolutely.
I could go on and on but that should show my point.
This is really good
LIke Especially good
I dont think i can say how good it is

The space marine is probably thinking how suicidal are these men to run at a space marine to bayonet him.
i'd like to think that part of him was actually impressed by their actions

The last thing to go through that heretics head (besides the bayonets) was "These pricks think they can kill a space mari-oh fuck they're from Krieg"
i feel a sudden urge to charge directly into a horde of orks shouting 'FOR THE EMPEROR, FOR KRIEG'
also the thing that really feels off is that these guys actively seek death as an honour and reparation for the rebellion of krieg
The 8 people who disliked this clearly have not been given their gas masks yet because the gas in their eyes made them miss the like button.

In those days Poland was a part of Russian Empire. There were no Poland. The period 1569-1795 it was Rzeczpospolita and included the territories of Estonia, Latvia, Litva, Belorussia, Ukraine, Russia, Moldova, Slovenia. The period 1795-1918 it didn't exist and part of it belongs Austria, Borussia and Russian Empire. So the times about song is singing the Poland hadn't excited yet.
