Honestly, the guard are the most impressive people in the 40k universe. This is a universe where there is all kinds of crazy magic and science, the genetic alterations of space marines, psychic powers of grey knights, aliens, literal demons and chaos gods, rebels and criminals fueled by powers they could hardly understand, forces like in the Horus heresy that fought with such power that it couldn’t even be perceived by some people during the final battle on terra. And through all that, the Guard, no such abilities. Nothing close to it whatsoever. Just regular foot soldiers who are completely aware that the odds are always stacked against them, and yet here they are, willing to take that stand as just baseline human soldiers. It just goes to show that after everything, they’re still willing to go out of their way to take a stand as they are for humanity, despite knowing the consequences if they fail. The guardsmen may not have any powerful abilities or genetic modifications, but their spirit. That’s their power, the ability to completely ignore that kind of fear and do what needs to be done to keep humanity safe without any sort of additional power to back them whatsoever, just ordinary people fighting a very unordinary fight.
