Today we are back on the obs Silverado. When I bought this truck it was lowered with a c notch in the rear and flip kit. For the Front the prior owner cut the springs to drop. I actually rode good with the springs cut but the negative camber on the front wheels looked terrible. In this video I will show you how to lower the obs silverado the correct way with good parts. I will be lowering front with drop spindles and drop springs. I am going for a 5/7 drop and will not be doing the rear. For the rear check out the 2 videos listed below because the flip kit will be the same. Lowering a obs Silverado the right way is going to make the alignment process way easier. This is a step by step on how to lower obs silverado, obs sierra, obs tahoe, obs yukon. This is the method and parts used to drop a silverado the correct way. We also go to a new steering shaft to fix the steering slop. The steering shaft in the obs silverado causes steering slop and this replaces the rag joint with a u joint. Some switch the obs silverado steering shaft to a jeep shaft. This replacement steering shaft works way better and is completely bolt in. No questions or looking for parts. I still have play in the steering but it is so much better and tighter.

I appreciate those peeps
i do have one but actually subbed because of the NBS truck
Thank you for subscribing and commenting
😂😂😂
Keep the OBS content coming. I'm in heaven right now
Thank you. I probably will honestly
Your channel is way too underrated! The shop looks sick!
Thank you sir. Tell everyone you know lol
@@TWAMotorsports good Friday afternoon TW. Great video last night on your obs truck spring and drop spindles upgrade 🇺🇲👍.. have a safe weekend...
Thank you. You aswell
@@TWAMotorsports where are you located? If you don't mind me asking
Missouri
I'm glad you're not selling the OBS and excited to see it getting resprayed
Yeah too many love to see it.
I went back and watched these videos. To help me with my OBS
Hopefully it helped
Number 300 likes! I like to see how you are so meticulous on your builds. Believe me when I say that it shows. Keep up the great work.
Thank you. I try lol
Milwaukee tools needs to sponsor you. Every time I see you ratchet something off I want to hand you a Milwaukee M12 battery ratchet. They are amazing.
Keep doing what you do! 👍🏻🇺🇸
Lol. I have a dewalt but some thinks I like to do by hand.
pitman and idler arm helped me alot with loose steering after I did the joint.
I probably need those too
You could switch out the springs and shocks for an Alden American or QA1 coil overs for the front. You would be able to adjust the ride height in the front without rolling the fenders more. Plus the alignment could be set more precious. Cool truck man.
I actually may do ridetech down the road
yep this is the one I want but in stepside, white is the color no doubt. I'd love to lower it but if I found one stock I'd just drive that too, like the base model with the steelies and everything. glad I found this video, I actually just realized in a newer video that you had a OBS, ha!
I understand that. Stepsides are cool too
Enjoy seeing another truck kiss the earth.. Obs Nbs or those new contraptions they call trucks after 2013...
Thank you
Nice review of the job, well produced. I know this video is from a few years ago, but a thought on the steering link cover that was damaged and ommitted. I think they employ covers like that to keep from having something like a stone coming up from the road and get into the joint- locking up the steering while driving down the road. Appreciate the videos; keep up the great work.
Thank you
elevated concepts has a rack and pinion for OBS trucks
It is nice
Sweet a Chevy OBS. I HAVE A 1990 OBS
Thank you. You building on it?
Pro tip: instead of grabbing the cotter pin with the pliers and wiggling, yanking and fighting with it; grab the pin with the pliers then tap the pliers with a hammer and the pin will slide right out 👌
Thank you for that
Nice work Trav
Maaan I’m loving the fleet. Shop looks so good
Thank you. Filling up
@@TWAMotorsports yessir. You didn’t build it for no reason. Treat it like a gas tank
FILL IT UP lol
Lol. That's exactly right
Check the EVO on the power steering pump.
Going to rack at some point
Nice work Travis. I just got all of my new brake kit in for my s10 / 53 project. This video got me really excited to start mocking that stuff up
You need to get rockin
@@TWAMotorsports slowly but surely.
It will get there
Belltech drop spindles push out the wheels so if you're running 15"s they won't rub the lower control arm. Belltech is the og to make them back n the day when 15"s were still popular.
Don't want push out
@@TWAMotorsports If you ran 15"s you would.
Why does the size of wheel make a difference where the wheel sets?!
@@TWAMotorsports lol. Read my original comment.
@timgibson2070 I see. Not my style
you have some really nice trucks in your shop can you show pictures of your builds that you still have looks good on the white short bed
Thank you
Great vid always very detailed. I put my NBS shortbed up for sale man im getting hate mail over the price Lol getting text in upper case letters. Man keep the OBS going
Lol. People gonna hate. No biggie.
Great work as usual! Hang in there with the OBS, I know it’s easy to lose interest especially when it comes to vehicles. I’m almost there with the car I have now but I just continue to do a little mods to keep myself interested!👍🏽
That's what I am going to try and do. Little by little
I like it. Great look!
Thank you
A borgeson gear box with a tighter ratio would probably had 100% removed all slop in addition with that steering shaft you got and fixed it like night and day / just an idea if you haven’t already gotten around to it . Kinda like how a lot of the s10 guys use the zq8 gearbox it has nearly no slop .
Optionally I also heard Cunningham Motorsports has connection to someone who does the rack pinion swap kit on these 88-98 c1500 trucks
Nice 1500 btw👍🏻
Yeah, elevated customs has a rack swap
@@TWAMotorsports
👍🏻For the effort to do the rack and $$ I feel like a borgeson box would suffice as equally
@@TWAMotorsports I believe there’s another company that makes drop control arms that are recommended even more so then the common drop spindles that keep all the camber in check and they don’t push out the wheels .
They also have the same design concept for lift arms over 2wd lift spindles!
I’m about to drop my 98 suburban 2wd and deciding if I should buy everything independently from specific companies or just buy a kit from one place , Ex: belltech or djm or western chassis
I want do the better style flip kit and best built Bolt on notch that they make for a suburban.
The front I’m just really hung up on deciding if drop control arms are best or just stick with spindles and springs .
@Chevro91 probably so
@Chevro91 react are the top dog spindles as of now.
Another great video. Love your videos, brother.
Thank you Kyle
Nice video so many do it wrong. I have done alot of steering gears for ob's I use 3rd gen Camaro or firebird take internals out and put in ob's box get rebuild kit for 3rd gen and seal kit for ob's and you have in my opinion best steering feel that gm had in a box. What size are wheels backspacing etc. If you want to do box I can give you more info.
Im definitely going to have to do something
Jeff could you send me the box rebuild info? I don't want to hunt down a ss box or pay for redhead box.
Damn was really hoping that steering shaft solved the steering wheel play almost ordered as soon as you mentioned it 😂
It made it better but still not to my liking
Wilwood spindles and qa1control arms push mine inside 👌
Nice
Dang this truck is sick
Thank you
I like how you do the correct way, I just bought a 93 short bed stepside. Did chevy made 305 5.0?
Thank you. Yes they did
Been here before haha!!!! I'm pro in this department haha, I put the 454 gearbox in mine. Did you check the idler arms I frogot if you did?
I did and they are all new
454 or 5.7 vortec sorry too say its the same gearbox
@@dalehall2993 supposedly they removed 3/4 out of it.
@@DrivenbyGears
What year gearbox? I have a 97 2 door tahoe and that thing turns on a dime..
you can upgrade your steering box to a steering box from a 454ss. it has a better steering ratio.
Going to rack
@@TWAMotorsports even better
May be a minute
@@TWAMotorsports i would love to watch that video. Ive been interested in going to rack too.
It will happen eventually
Great video. Looks like there be video on a gearbox install. Don't they make a rack and pinion steering for this?
They do make a rack but it is pricey
@@TWAMotorsports
Elevated concepts 1800.00
Hey Travis I'm really liking that white single cab... I would even consider trading my 96 WS6 no mods other than Wheels... Straight swap
Thank you. Just dont know if I need that.
Use a 2 lb drilling hammer, short handle
Thank you
Nice work just purchased a Sierra like your green one
Nice. What color?
@@TWAMotorsports blue
Awesome
Elevated concepts makes a rack n pinion..
I saw that
@@TWAMotorsports
1800.00👀
Yeah. Crazy high
@@TWAMotorsports
Hes definitely got the market cornered on that set up for now...😂
For sure
Those look like KYB Monomax shocks.
No label or numbers. You may be right
Nice job ! Picking up a low mileage 95 Chevy 1500. Looking for recommendations on a mild 2-4” Drop Kit ? Thanks !!
I don't generally buy kits. React if I had to
Cool Thanks !
@axelcaro2431 you're welcome
Question query, is it necessary to replace the steering knuckle with a 2" drop, I bought the new springs to lower 2" and the shock absorbers for the same drop??
If you want 4 itches of drop in the front yes
Nice work bro 👍
Thank you
Did that truck have a little twitch/jerk before the steering shaft replacement?
Not really
Did you have any clearance issues? I dropped mine 4” in the front and my lower control are is rubbing on the abs ring? I also used djm spring and spindle.
No issues like that at all
Yeah i hve always used a chain jusy incase
Probably not a bad idea
Thank you for these videos!! I do have a question. What size tires were you running in this video? I ask because I have the exact rims but in grey and going to put them on.
I would have to check. They came on the truck.
Great info!!😎👊🏻
Thank you
What kind of wheels are on the truck? What size are they? They make the truck look great !
I can't remember the brand. They are 20x8 front and 20x10 back.
US Mags. Took me a minute lol
Tengo una Chevrolet Silverado modelo 1997 - 1500 Sedán
What brand of spindles were you talking about that don't push out? IV used used belltech before but would like to use something that doesn't push out.
React
I have the same issue where it pushes rim out...what company makes the one that doesn't push out...(spindle)
React
Question? I just bought a 93 chevy stepside, and I sold the rims because they were 24" and want to get something smaller, so all the obs silverados have the rotor diameter big, where's the cap goes?because a lot of rims doesn't fit.
Yes unfortunately they do.
Travis, I know it's an older video, but do you remember the exhaust set up on this truck?
I bought it this way. Pretty sure its a cheap flowmaster
Great video i just have a question what size are the wheel bearings?
Thanks
Thank you. Honestly order off part numbers listed on rockauto
@@TWAMotorsports oh ok thanks
Sorry. Don't know the exact sizes.
Should be a link in video description
Killing it!
Thank you
Just fell on your channel great stuff . Have to ask whats the spec on the wheels and tires ?
Thank you for watching. Not sure on specs. 20x8 I believe. Came with the truck.
Porfavor necesito el comentario en Español si es posible 🙏
What do you prefer…OBS or Fbody??
Probably Trans Am , then obs, then camaro
Any luck finding a roller to fit lug pattern?
Had someone send me an adapter
Do you Have a link to adapter?
@jwykert513 no. Someone sent me a 4.75 to 5.5 wheel adapter
I have that same problem with the steering wheel...
Yeah it sucks
But idk if its my alignment tomorrow im gettin it fixed the right way hopefully this mechanic knows whats he doin
What shocks do u have to get when u lower an OBS truck with the c nocks
No idea what these are. Some aftermarket that can on the truck
Saludos desde Texas
What's up
A+ work & videos
Thank you John
So wild you call this a 4/6 drop ?
5/7
They look like eldlebrook shocks
I thought so to but no markings
Did you ever find out what was causing the play on the steering wheel? My obs has a lot of play as well it sucks
No. It will be getting a steering rack at some point
@@TWAMotorsports oh ok, it sucks driving like that
I agree
@@TWAMotorsports you should make a video when you change the rack to see if it helped 👍🏼
I definitely will
Are JDM. Spindle better than Belltech?
Don't push the wheel out as much
Did you buy the spindles and springs on eBay?
Yes. Amazon was out
Great show but exactly not how to treat your break hoses unless you are intentionally trying to ruin them and guarantee break failure.
I did a brake upgrade at the same time with new lines.
@@TWAMotorsports I apologize. I must have missed that part
@@TWAMotorsports btw the Sonoma is a awesome little truck
Thank you
Do you hand pack your wheel bearings?
I do
@@TWAMotorsports those little press packers are nice but there's something therapeutic about hand packing bearings.
I don't trust the press style
if i had a dollar for every time youve said "now" id be able to purchase all your vehicles
I know. Now or so lol. When I cut I always start back with that.
What year is that obs
1997
Any issues with the drive line vibrating?
None that I have noticed
@@TWAMotorsports currently I’m the process of lowering mine 96 extended cab. Just finished the front yesterday. 5/7. The front looks way too low. Do you think it will raise up once the back is lowered and also install shocks in the front. The shocks are currently on the way. Had to order. Thanks
Yes the front will come up some when you get the back finished
@@TWAMotorsports ok nice. Cause I been worried. It is way too low and rubbing a lot. I have stock size tires. Do you think I will be ok?
Stock tires will not work
How do you bleed your brakes with abs.
I generally use a power bleeder I used on the audi
This is the video right
Yep
Is it normal that I can move my spindle with my hand?
Not sure what you mean
OBS steering racks suck. You need to put the one from the 454SS which is the shorter one.
I need to pony up and buy an agr unit
Trucks for sale ?
As long as its bought before it goes to paint
Anyone else not worry about caliper hanging by brake line?
I was replacing the brake lines otherwise I agree
I apologize, my mistake for not paying attention keep up the amazing vids
Thank you. I noticed that during filming and almost said something
Hard to find don't sell!
That's for sure
💯💯💯💯
Thank you

Keith's first
Leaving that brake caliper hanging off its brake hose for what looked like the majority of your video drive me nuts. I stopped watching.
Apparently you watched with the sound off. I specifically said the only reason I was doing that is that I was replacing brakes.
@@TWAMotorsports yeah but not everyone replaces brake calipers when lowering/working on a suspension. Some people may see the video and think it’s ok to let it hang off the brake line.
Which is why in the video I specifically say not to do that👍
Just get a new truck dude.
Have that too👍
