sucker punch, instead of saying that it's loyal to historical accuracy, outright said to a japanese professor that the game was more loyal to samurai movies. and during that sony interview they even challenged the professor to spot all the things they included that was anachronistic or from a different era. one thing that wasn't noticed was the mongol use of the korean Hwacha which won't even be invented until 100-200 years later. I think it's the popularity of the sengoku era, that's why so much of it was in this kamakura set game, especially since the goal was to capture the feel of samurai eiga

The Sakai Clan armour fully upgraded is a tribute to the legendary Honda Tadekatsu, the Samurai Clan armour is a tribute to Date Masamune and the Legendary Gosaku armour is a tribute to Takeda Shingen. Also Sucker Punch was going to use real historical figures but found it would be too disrespectful to the fallen warriors of Tsushima and Japan. So instead Sucker Punch created their own characters while still respecting the history and legacy of the warriors who died at Tsushima and Japan by paying tribute to them. In return Sucker Punch was named honourable ambassadors of the island of Tsushima and the fans raised money to rebuild a Tori Shrine that was destroyed in a flood.
Watched a Japanese streamer play it, he was yelling ”斬!” (cut!) at the top of his lungs hacking and slashing his way through, obviously enjoying himself to the max, and the audience was excited as well. Respectful and fun games are a rare gem at present.

In an interview they had, a Japanese communicator was the one to persuade them away from Kamakura style because he feared that a western audience might not see the samurai as samurai. So they went with more popular styles from later history and films.

Something i realized that makes me sad: the samurai clan armor you said "looks like childrens armor". Well, her children werent super young, maybe 17/18/19, but that armor was made for lady Masako's son. It was made for her child and he will never get to wear it, so she passes it to you. In a way, it is made for a child.
Asmon brought me here. Stayed and subbed for the content. Ghost of Tsushima is my favorite game of all time ( sorry, RDR II…). Looking forward to you both covering it more in the future!
I’m looking forward to the swords video as I was called names for pointing out that the Tachi was the sword used in the Mongol Invasions, not the katana.
im another person who discovered you through asmongold that video was hilarious (and its all on the trailer, which you'd think is supposed to have the MOST effort put into it?!) but the instant i saw the recommendation for ghost of tshushima i had to come by i only somewhat recently played this game myself and it was honestly baffling how great the game is. it truly felt like they had so much passion and respect put into the game. with ac shadows' previews, trailers and stuff i couldn't do anything but compare it to my experience with this game, even the stealth aspects are so good, i was surprised when i saw the ai pair up with eachother back-to-back when i was playing at a stealth archer, i've never seen that in any game before. The difference between the two is already completely insane even with how little we've seen of shadows so far, hell i think the stealth aspects are better than older AC games too i highly appreciate this video, IMO it should have far more views than it does, laughing at the bad designs of games is fine but i feel like people dont understand how bad something truly is until they have something to compare it to. And appreciating the good designs should be equally important regardless my favourite little thing about this game is how the wind points you to your objectives. it fits so perfectly to the rest of the game, and its completely non-intrusive unlike what classic mission markers and highlighting arrows and junk would do, in fact it looks better than if there was no wind at all. how did they even think of that? its soo cool, i love it so much. does everyone already know how amazing this game is? i feel like i need to tell everyone about it lol
I feel the wind system is truly revolutionary and really helps with immersion. There are still many things about this game that most people don't know, like the way they do the 'haiku' system when using Japanese text. I plan to make a video talking about it some day. Thank you for taking time to watch this video!
One of my favorite things about this conflict is how the Japanese were so stubborn in their defense that the mongols stayed on their ships till the storm destroyed the bulk of their forces
It’s worth noting (and you probably know this) that the Japanese in Ghost of Tsushima is modern Japanese. In reality, the Japanese spoken language of the Kamakura period would be almost incomprehensible to a modern Japanese person, much in the same way that Chaucerian English (Canterbury Tales) is pretty much incomprehensible to an average modern American or even British person.
@@martuuk8964 I didn’t know that but it makes complete sense. I’m only a year in to learning Japanese so I only understand 5-10% of what’s being said in the game. It would’ve been discouraging to play the game and not understand a word 😂
A brilliant game! Loved every second of it. The voice acting and story line was fantastic. How a Samurai game should be done. Makes you fall in love with Japan and it's history.
I am so glad that I wasn't the only one that thought the shoulder plates in the game were a little too high up. Because aside from the fact that it ends up clipping through the helmet a lot of the time, it doesn't really protect the elbow from getting cut. On another note, Shimura's armor doesn't have that issue and is more appropriately positioned so I was wondering to myself why that couldn't be the case for the Clan Armor and the Gosaku Armor.
The Ghost armor reminds me of the main character's armor in the Iljimae Korean drama. After played Ghost of Tsushima I had to watch this movie again lol :)))
@@DashBlue I really enjoy the historical Korean dramas, especially the hero epic Jumong (80 1 hour 10 minute episodes though; very long that took place when Korea was vassal state to China and China had the iron army and Korean metal tech didn't stand a chance). But what I feel sad about is that my available streaming services have nearly no Historical Japanese shows! There was just one I saw about Shinsengumi but I think it was supposed to be a romance or something so it didn't grab my interest. But there is so much Chinese and Korean, but where are the Japanese ones? I want to see old era Japan too! 😖
I haven't played Ghosts of Tsushima yet, but plan to do so. Loved your insights and your video made me wanna play it even more and pay attention to all the things you mentioned :D Would love to hear your opinions on the architecture and environment in the game as well ^^
After 140h in it, I would recommend it to anyone that is into Japanese games and culture. Also play it in Japanese audio for extra authenticity. Such a masterpiece game. Started finishing it again on the hardest difficulty.
Thanks for the awesome video! Both you and your wife are super funny and genuine. :) keep up the great work and hope to see your channel with a few hundred million followers!
@@DashBlue Yeah I noticed that after the comment. That BGM has the exact same rhythm as Holotori Dance, which is a really weird coincidence. Holotori Dance is a song created by a sub-group of Hololive Vtubers (Holotori, they're all birds). Takanashi Kiara, Oozora Subaru, Pavolia Reine and Nanashi Mumei. An Austrian, a Japanese, an Indonesian and an American.
Probably my top 3 favorite games I've ever had the experience to play. I hope you guys have played the game because it really is a beautiful representation of Japanese culture. Great video!
like asmon mentioned, good and bar games are like onions, bad games you'll find more bad and good games you'll find more good, it's crazy how despite not blowing it's own horn about trying to be historically accurate, it's more accurate than shadows cause these devs clearly care about the history AND artistic liberty, a perfect balance of whats fits the time period, what looks cool to the player and what serves the story
Why does your wife say 'ne' behind some sentances? Ive noticed it a few times but I dont understand the meaning. Nice video. Short but still packs some details in there along with you guys fangirling over the over the top armor :D
'Ne' has many meanings and uses, it can mean "right?" or "hey" or be used to agree to a statement. It hard to directly translate into English. "but it looks pretty good, ne" would be like, "yeah, it looks pretty good" "ne ne ne ne, what is that?" "hey hey hey hey, what is that?" Dash: "it looks really cool" Wife: "ne" ('yeah' or 'right?') thank you for watching!
I tought the stealth was bellow average, the writing weak (sometimes even awful) and the forced stealth in some mission was horrible... But the level design is beautiful (apart of biome borders, they seemed really weird), voice acting is nice, some cutscenes were super epic and combat was really really fun! In this day and age i would give it 7,5/10
It’s more about respect than accuracy. In AC Shadows you can tell Ubi were only thinking about getting money from casual tourist weebs and had very little respect - for example the exact copy of a real Buddha statue, which is forbidden to show in entertainment media. Sucker Punch was aiming for the samurai fantasy rather than accuracy, but you can sense the incredible amount of respect they had for the periods culture and Japanese culture in general, as well as for Kurosawa’s filmmaking style. Every choice was made carefully and with deliberation. And you’ll notice they don’t have any real Buddhist statues. Just ones they made up for the game (which is ok - only copying certain real statues is forbidden).
@@martuuk8964 I was talking that I enjoyed the format of the video even though I don't care about the topic. Couldn't care less about assassin's creed or it's setting. Gameplay hasn't evolved since black and it really doesn't matter to me how they wrap a ~10 year old game. I think "Fans" are looking for things to be upset about, because it's not REALLY about accuracy, respect in representation of story. It's a component, but a small one. AC story was always a parody of real one and it didn't matter until Ubisoft (and AAA industry as a whole) gained a certain reputation.
it is plenty accurate, and the game never marketed itself as being historically accurate them putting in details that make it historically accurate just goes to show how much extra effort and passion they put into this being a truly authentic experience don't worry, this game does so many things incredibly accurately Thank you for watching!

i only somewhat recently played this game myself and it was honestly baffling how great the game is. it truly felt like they had so much passion and respect put into the game. with ac shadows' previews, trailers and stuff i couldn't do anything but compare it to my experience with this game, even the stealth aspects are so good, i was surprised when i saw the ai pair up with eachother back-to-back when i was playing at a stealth archer, i've never seen that in any game before. The difference between the two is already completely insane even with how little we've seen of shadows so far, hell i think the stealth aspects are better than older AC games too
i highly appreciate this video, IMO it should have far more views than it does, laughing at the bad designs of games is fine but i feel like people dont understand how bad something truly is until they have something to compare it to. And appreciating the good designs should be equally important regardless
my favourite little thing about this game is how the wind points you to your objectives. it fits so perfectly to the rest of the game, and its completely non-intrusive unlike what classic mission markers and highlighting arrows and junk would do, in fact it looks better than if there was no wind at all. how did they even think of that? its soo cool, i love it so much.
does everyone already know how amazing this game is? i feel like i need to tell everyone about it lol
I feel the wind system is truly revolutionary and really helps with immersion.
There are still many things about this game that most people don't know, like the way they do the 'haiku' system when using Japanese text. I plan to make a video talking about it some day.
Thank you for taking time to watch this video!
TH-cam's algorithm brought me here from a Finals trailer. For once it did a good job, this was very enjoyable to watch!
so much rope used around the body, made me wonder if that was how shibari came about lol
lol
Thank you for taking time to watch this vid!
Great video, Asmon brought me here and I don't regret it. Please keep on making this awesome stuff and do Sekiro, one of my fav games.
Glad you enjoy it!
Thank you for taking time to watch this vid!
One of my favorite things about this conflict is how the Japanese were so stubborn in their defense that the mongols stayed on their ships till the storm destroyed the bulk of their forces
Nice vid, saw you on an Asmongold reaction to your AC Shadows video.
lool same
I use this game as listening practice for Japanese. I’m glad to hear it is somewhat accurate.
Awesome video ⛩👍
thank you for watching!
A brilliant game! Loved every second of it. The voice acting and story line was fantastic. How a Samurai game should be done. Makes you fall in love with Japan and it's history.
Thank you for taking time to watch this vid!
I love the voice actors, specially Jin.( he is acting also Zoro from ONE PIECE)
Ok this channel is a hidden gem thank god I found u
thank you for the kind words!
aight im convinced, im gonna get that max lvl sarugami armor
Discovered your channel from asmongold and I can't believe I never knew about you guys before. Thank you for the entertainment😂
Thanks for subbing and taking time to watch this vid!
favorite armor for me in this is
Dark Betrayer Hat
Midnight *Black wolf mask*
Yharman armor
Thank you for taking time to watch this vid!
I donno the Korean doama, so I'll check it up later

Didn't know samurai armor had several Layers
If we can compare both samurai and Eastern Roman armor (Justinian to Constantine XI), they're quite similar in function, albeit some missing parts.
The fact you use a Charlie mem of RayGun gets my approval. As an aussie I approve this trolling.
Gosaku armor was my favorite. it was based on real life Takeda Shingen's armor
ゴーストオブツシマ2(ヨウテイ)のPVもぜひ…!
I haven't played Ghosts of Tsushima yet, but plan to do so. Loved your insights and your video made me wanna play it even more and pay attention to all the things you mentioned :D
Would love to hear your opinions on the architecture and environment in the game as well ^^
ac shadows not even close at this game, this game is a masterpiece of japanese samurai
Thank you for taking time to watch this video!
Samurai wore a personal Kyuubi?
No wonder they're such badasses.
I now await Ghost of Yotei.
After 140h in it, I would recommend it to anyone that is into Japanese games and culture. Also play it in Japanese audio for extra authenticity. Such a masterpiece game. Started finishing it again on the hardest difficulty.
Thank you for taking time to watch this vid!
Thanks for the awesome video! Both you and your wife are super funny and genuine. :) keep up the great work and hope to see your channel with a few hundred million followers!
Hundred million! That would be NUTS lol
thank you so much!
Was.... was that The Holotori Dance playing at the start of this vid?
not sure what that is, but the song is called Pokerface. It's listed in the credits, it's free BGM.
thank you for watching!
Isnt the sakai armor that you showed the god of War armor? 8:56
yup, my mistake, noted in the pinned comment
thank you for watching!
The "unhistorical" parts are the creative liberty AC Shadows claim to have, but done right in this game
Dude seriously you and your wife are ducking adorable
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
"but it looks pretty good, ne"
would be like, "yeah, it looks pretty good"
"ne ne ne ne, what is that?"
"hey hey hey hey, what is that?"
Dash: "it looks really cool"
Wife: "ne" ('yeah' or 'right?')
thank you for watching!
@@DashBlue very informative. Thank you. :)
the Sakai Clan Armor remind me of God of War
clearly a refrence to Kratos the "Ghost of Spartar" while Jin is the "Ghost of Tsushima"
Comimg here after the announcement of Ghost of Yotei
2:40 Charlie jumpscare
whoooooooo! yeahhhh babyyyyy!
I tought the stealth was bellow average, the writing weak (sometimes even awful) and the forced stealth in some mission was horrible... But the level design is beautiful (apart of biome borders, they seemed really weird), voice acting is nice, some cutscenes were super epic and combat was really really fun! In this day and age i would give it 7,5/10
Good criticisms here.
Im here because of Asmongold.
thank you for taking the time to check out our other videos!
we have more to come, stay tuned!
@@DashBluewill surely do already subscribed
I like the lighthearted format.
I don't generally care for historical accuracy in games, but this was very easy to watch.
AC story was always a parody of real one and it didn't matter until Ubisoft (and AAA industry as a whole) gained a certain reputation.
oh my god, the horses movement in this game look great. If only Ubislop would just copy everting from this game and paste it over to AC shadow.
YES
Thank you for taking time to watch this video!
When ACS made Ghost of Tsushima look like a masterpiece of art 🎨 🎨
Now i want to play GoT again!
Oh shit you guys might break my heart if it isn’t accurate
it is plenty accurate, and the game never marketed itself as being historically accurate
them putting in details that make it historically accurate just goes to show how much extra effort and passion they put into this being a truly authentic experience
don't worry, this game does so many things incredibly accurately
Thank you for watching!
While Ubi try to claim about they do historical accuracy but sucker punch just said that they love kurosawa movie
