Is the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox a GOOD or GREAT compact SUV?

  • The Chevy Equinox is a very versatile compact SUV. Under the hood is a 1.5L turbocharged inline-4 producing 170HP & mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The exterior of the Equinox has very clean lines, and comes with the ability to load things on the roof. On the inside you will find upgraded surfaces with the Premier trim and a lot of room for a compact SUV. Is the 2020 Chevy Equinox a good or great compact SUV?

    Okay so I own both an Equinox AWD and a Rav4 in base models and here are couple of things to keep in mind. 1) equinox have more torque because of the turbo it really gets going till u hit the 50mph range. 2) I have a heavy foot but surprisingly the equinox is averaging better gas mileage that the Toyota. 3) Toyota interior is put together a lot better and has nicer materials. 4) equinox is A LOTTT quiter than the Rav4 way less road noise. 5) Rav4 has a stiffer suspension which is great when cornering but I like the softer suspension of the equinox since I'm not doing high speed turns. 6) seats are shit in both. 7) Rav4 has better cargo room than the equinox but u can always put the seats down in both for more space. 7) I find the Chevy infotainment system simpler to use and more intuitive and it has both android auto and apple car play which I think is now available on newer Rav4. 8) I like how the equinox has LEDs for all the interior lights. 9) I like the base sound system in the equinox more than the Rav4 one.

      So it’s not just me. Everything you said, was how I felt about comparing the Equinox with the RAV4. I have the 2018, (the first year for the new body style and the 1.5 ecoboost engine.) I’ve got about 61,000 miles, so far still running strong. The only complaint I’ve had about this engine is when it get really cold, -0F and colder, at city speeds 30mph and lower the heater barely keeps up. It gets chilly inside. It’s not an issue driving over 40mph. The only explanation Chevy has is the engine is so small it just doesn’t produce enough heat at lower speeds. And the grill cover, “the bra” is a complete waste of time, it does not help the problem. Other than that, I like my Equinox.

    Joe, equinox is not overlooked at all. It's selling extremely well in it's competitive class. I think it beat the CRV in sales and barely trails behind the Rouge. It makes the most profit for GM outside trucks. I see one every 5 minutes. If you want to get one recommend the 2.0 with the brand new 9 speed, it's quite powerful. If your current GM lease is ending, you can rollover and get amazing cash on hood deals.
    I currently own a 2015 Malibu hybrid, and it's nice that chevy keep the interior look standardized with what I currently have. I can say from experience that the plastics hold up really well and are very durable. The leather has zero fade, and no cracking.

Otherwise, its a great looking SUV...I'm not an SUV guy, but I'm not disappointed in the Equinox.

My personal high is 37.5 on the trip computer! Best part is it never needed any warranty work. 170hp is a “safety issue.” I currently drive a Prius C. It has 99hp total. The 1.5 turbo Equinox would be a huge upgrade for me! LOL If I can get around in the Prius just fine, this will too. Also, the 2.0 turbo Equinox is way more powerful but it requires high octane. Will take a big hit at the pump for that extra HP. The 1.5 takes regular and gets 2+ mpg better. I’ll take a 1.5 thank you just for the savings at the pump.

    Good Lord!!!😬 36k for a Chevy equinox? Toyota RAV4 and Honda CRV higher trims doesn't even cost that much. Realistically this vehicle is worth 25-28k

    • @trbstang
      @trbstang 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      We paid $30k for our 13 Equinox LTZ and it was loaded except for V6 and AWD. That was about 10% off sticker back then, so a $36k sticker is not that bad for a comparably equipped 7 year newer one. We priced a comparable RAV4 and a couple of others, and in the top trims, they were all more expensive and they would not give more than a very small discount. I don't know if things have changed, but I'd think prices are even more

    Not sure what to think. I drove the 2.0 with the 9-speed and the 1.5 with the 6-speed. The 2.0 from a stop could spin the wheels on dry pavement if you pushed it hard enough, and seemed confused making up its mind on the roll like if you were going to pass someone. The 1.5 easily spun the front wheels on dry pavement from a stop so the engine wasn't slowing it down, and kick-down for passing was immediate when simulating a passing situation. I was surprised by that because the salesman said it would be the opposite.
    Then I got back into my red 2006 Saturn Vue Redline, and had to learn to drive all over again because I spun out by accident. I'll keep that one forever. It got me 30.15 mpg on a trip to Chicago and back which included getting stuck creeping along in traffic tie-ups, and get 19 in the city with its 3.5 Acura MDX powertrain with .5 overdrive and 4.09 final drive which is 1800 at 70. If I could buy another good one I would.
