This song "Yes I'M Ready" by Barbara Mason came out on January 1st. 1965. It charted in as #5 on Billboard, #2 on R&B, #3 on Cash Box, and #4 on Record World. It was a very successful chart topper and helped put her on the world stage. Awesome.
YEZZZ YEZZZ Finally Finally a reaction Barbara was only 15 when she wrote and recorded this song she also wrote tons of other song A gutzy record for it time. So ahead of it time countless people have recorded this song. She is Another one of those soul artists that is considered a one hit wonder that is far far from the truth. She was one of the top soul female artists of the 60s/70s wrote Poor girl in trouble (another one of those controversial records) Oh how it hurts Sad sad girl Hello baby to name just a few. Miss Mason has never gotten the same accolades as many female artists of the 60/70s have. Believe me she is at the top of that list ✌️&♥️
And don't forget Barbara Acklin, who had some hits including Love Makes a Woman in 1968, and she was a songwriter too, best known for co-writing Have You Seen Her by the Chi-Lites.
Barbara Mason is an American soul singer songwriter with several R&B & pop hits in the 60's-70's. "Yes, I'm Ready" is her biggest hit. Some other songs were "Sad, Sad Girl", "Oh How It Hurts", "Give Me Your Love", "From His Woman To You" etc.
I was 13 when this came out and I was just getting interested in girls at 17 I met my girlfriend and married at 18 and now 51 years ! This brings back memories thank you ! Love you two keep it up
Such a great song... She could have be shy or just guarded and she finally found someone she wanted to be complete open and transparent with... But she doesn't know how to move forward, but she is willing to learn.... Beautiful!
I just found this record recently and I love it! Did some research and it's the FIRST song she ever wrote and recorded, released Jan 1, 1965 when she was 18...and she's still with us too. I wonder how it squeaked by industry and record label censors, especially with the line "I'm ready to learn how to do all the things you want me to do". Every man loves to hear that...
Thank you much for reacting to this beautiful song. Loved it first time hearing in late 60s, still do. A great unique voice, perfect song for her. A great day to both of you, love yr reactions!!
Okay I saw her in a PBS Special about Hits from the 60s and she looked and sounded exactly like the Record; she has to be in her 70s.... Priceless Artist!
I was only 12 when this was playing on the radio and even then I knew how special and unique her voice was. She was only 15 or 16 when she wrote and recorded this and she was singing about a teenagers first love and first kiss 💋, not about someone unable to love.
Such a beautiful song, it reminds me of my husband and I, he was the first boy to ever kiss me. We met when were only 10, his family lived next to my aunt and uncle. When we were 12, back in 1970, he proposed and I said yes lol, we got married in 1977, I'm still very much in love with him, he's my everything.
I loved this song before I even knew what she was talking about. This is what we mean when we say music isn't what it used to be. I'm thinking it's her first love
Love this song!! Another great Barbara from that era is Barbara Lewis. Her hits included Hello, Stranger, Make Me Your Baby, & my favorite, Baby, I'm Yours. Beautiful voice, wonderful songs!!
Barbara Mason had other hits like "Oh, How It Hurts" and "Give Me Your Love". I saw her LIVE in the 60's & she was GREAT. She also wrote "Yes, I'm Ready" which was a TOP Ten record.
You guys are the only ones taking on the soul oldies. I love it. Keep up the good work I can't find anybody else doing it. I grew up on these Soul oldies. I'm Chicano and these are considered lowrider oldies.
You guys have the BEST reactions! I was 13 when this song hit the charts. The Beatles were at their most popular but soul music was always a must to listen to. Barbara Mason is a treasure.
Yall are just too cute! The Lord knew what he was doin by putting you together!!! Many blessings to ya this coming New Year! Thanks for the Joy you bring me!❤😊
You guys are picking out some of the best classic music and you are also enjoying it. Keep it up and I’ll keep watching. You pay attention to the lyrics.
Barbara Mason had an amazing voice. In the 70' singer Shirley Brown made a sing called Woman to Woman. It starts out Barbara this is Shirley...Barbara made holla back song called From His Woman to You. Also on the same wave we had Betty Wright with The Clean Up Woman. Barbara also did a remake of I'm Ready.
There is a video on TH-cam from a few years ago where Barbara is singing this song live. It isn't often that a singer can actually outdo her original release of a song, but she absolutely does it in this video. She just exudes sexiness and charm. Do yourselves a favor and check it out and see if you agree. Also, she looks absolutely gorgeous!
I think, as women, especially Black Women, we all go through it, being strong!!! And I’m 62yrs. so I’ve gone through it, as well! I send nothing but LOVE for both of you!!!
Since you have gone down the KC and the Sunshine Band rabbit hole with their up tempo stuff, you might want to check out KC and Teri DeSario covering this ballad. It's pretty awesome 💚🎵🎶
K.c. from k.c. and the sunshine band did a remake of this song which is a really good version and since you both like k.c. I think you will enjoy oh I almost forgot he sang the song with a lady named teri desario
Barbara Mason's accent when she sings it's very relatable to Estelle refer to as Chicano style oldies, just by the way she accents her voice has really captivated that she kind of culture for many decades like no other, even though herself she's not Hispanic. it's just that certain style she has that really Drew such.
❤️🥰❤️ Hello S & M SQUAD, HAPPY HOLIDAYS !!! ☃️❄️🎄⭐️ SHAWN & MEL, you are the sweetest couple!!! I love your watching your reactions, however, I TRULY LOVE the how you, at times, such as this, you use this method to show how the lyrics of a song pertain specifically to,your marriage, and to each other personally!!! Great couples like yours, find different ways to communicate their love to each other,. The way you show your love to one another is absolutely beautiful!, and one which should be admired!! ⭐️MUch love ,Always! ~ Laura 💖 ❤️ 🥰❤️ S and M SQUAD IS THE BEST!!! ❤️🥰❤️
Still love this great song 55 years later no doubt always will What a terrific voice. Actually Harry Casey of KC Sunshine band did a great cover in 83 with Teri Desario. I know Barbara gave a thumbs up!
I'm just sure that I'm not the only boomer in your squad that hears the music even before it starts and sings along with every word just like we did then. ✨🎶⏳
I’m a millennial who stayed home with my grandparents the first 10 years of my life… this song came out when they were in their 20’s. Every time I hear the first few notes I already know the songs as well lol but it’s great to watch their reactions ❤
Kudos to both of you. You both have found a good thing in each other. Mel I commend you for being a woman who wants to be a woman and not a “ain’t no man gonna tell me what to do” type of woman. Some women are like that when they grew up without a father figure. Side note: fathers, you are doing your children a disservice when you choose not to be part of their lives.
Great song/performance. Barbara wrote and recorded this romantic number when she was just 18 years old in 1965. I guess my memory is going, because I would have said this was on the radio sometime in the 1950's. And I was there! Oh, NOOOOO !
The two of you continue to please us with your reaction selections. I'd love to have your Playlist from the beginning. Do you have it to share? It would make great merch! I'm ready for more!
A great cover of this song was done by Teri Desario and KC (of KC and the Sunshine Band). Please check it out. Also, another song about learning how to love is “Teach Me Tonight” by Al Jarreau. Great song. Please check that out too.
Barbara Mason sung a song also, called, “I’m Catching Hell! also recorded by Natalie Cole. Yes! If you caught the name, she was the daughter of Nat King Cole. Listen to both versions, Barbara Mason, & Natalie Cole. About 20yrs. apart, but both good!!!
I'm so jealous of y'all...because there is so much good music out there...and you'll just be hearing it for the first time. Watching these reactions, I really appreciate what you're doing--introducing this music to some new ears, which I hope are as open as you two....

Absolutely right.
Since you love the 60's so much, i recommend you listen to etta James/ i rather go blind.

I was 17 at the time.
This is another good one.
Now you're bringing me back to my early teens. Great song, but I wasn't ready at that time. Had a few more years to grow up.

one of my favorites LaVerne Baker "Tweedle Dee" (1955) live on the Ed Sullivan Show

KC did a remake of this song in the early 80's with Terri DeSario.
Thanks!! I knew I had heard the song before, but I had remembered a male voice. Now, I don’t have to go look it up. 💁🏻♀️😉
I fucking love this song.
And you can call this '60s soul.
We used to be able to express feelings and be vulnerable. Music industry mogels helped tear apart the family structure.
Yes, I'm ready. You know who you are.
Barbara Lewis is a must!!!
I really get a kick out of this when I see young people digging the music that I grew up with I remember this when I was 11 years old
Barbara Lewis had the hit with "Hello Stranger" in the 60's. Yvonne Eliman had a great version in the 70's too.
So sweet.
I didn't know this version of this song (Barbara Mason) was beautiful.
My ringtone is "Make me your baby" by Barbara Lewis
Great song to slow dance to and melt into each other❤
I got a great one for you...Dorothy Moore "Misty Blue"
I remember when this song came out. I was singing it around the house and my Dad did not enjoy hearing me do that LOL
