  • This video is part one of a two part series.
    We have always wanted to ride across Florida, but just never have done it. There are multiple ways to cross Florida. There is the traditional East to West route that is all on paved roads and the most direct coming in at 170ish miles. There is a newer mostly paved bike trail route also runs horizontally that is a little longer around 240 miles. Of course we had to ride the hardest mainly offroad route developed by The Singletrack Samurai called the "Spanish Trail" that meanders more diagonally across Florida. This ride starts in St. Augustine in the shadow of the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument (Spanish for “St. Mark’s Castle”) which is the oldest masonry fort in the continental United States, and meanders it’s way across Florida ending 514 miles later at Fort Desoto State Park (another old masonry fort) just south of St. Petersburg. This is such an awesome route that covers 5 legit mountain bike trail systems totaling close to 100 miles of singletrack riding!
    Please checkout www.singletracksamurai.com/ for route information and download of GPX route for a small fee. It's well worth the donation to get this awesome route, you will not be dissapointed.
    Please comment if you have any questions and I will do my best to answer.
    Ride on!

    I plan to move to Florida from NJ and explore on bicycle. I may even be on those trails. It looks fun.

    Hi I'm from Johannesburg south Africa and follow all the videos of you and Michelle. You guys must do a bike packing adventure in Mexico etc.
    You guys are so blessed to have such nice places to bike packing. South Africa, mmh not the same. Warm regards Werner van Niekerk.

      Wow, south Africa! Thanks for the nice comment. We are definitely lucky in the USA to have so many routes to choose from. One of these days we will venture to Mexico. Next year we are planning on venturing outside the USA and give the GB Divide a go. Happy Trails!

    Great video and thanks for the many ideas on great places to ride. I’ve been watching since the tour divide rides. I enjoy your commentary on the logistics and find your videos to be amongst the best out there.

      Thank you, much appreciated! We hope to finish the great divide later this year and are heading to eastern Utah in May to ride three smaller loops. Hope you have some fun adventures planned for 2021 and beyond!

      Thanks Steve! Looks like you had an excellent adventure riding from Key West to South Carolina, also great videos. I have lived in Florida all my life and still have never been to Key West and not sure why. This ride is an awesome route, let me know if you do this route or the paved trail option from Titusville. We live right off the route between Clearwater and Tarpon Springs area. Ride on!

    Great start of your adventure. Those backcountry mountain bike trails take time but it looks fun. If I would consider to do the same route I gotta get a mountain bike for sure. Thanks for sharing your adventure, I enjoyed watching it. 👍

      @PedalPowerAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the nice comment. This is definitely a put on your bucket list type of ride, we had a blast. It was hard at times but what bicycle tour type of trip is not, lol. Definitely would recommend a mountain bike for this route, it can be done on a gravel bike but I think the fun factor would be a little lower. Just my opinion though. It was funny we were worried about the mountain bike trails being slow, but they were actually the same speed or even faster than some of the dirt and grass roads. Especially the sandy section heading to Alexander Springs that was 13 miles long and felt like you were climbing a mountain without the downhill payoff. Ride on!

      Yes a bit different and the big thing is we have no grizzly bears, lol. Florida is actually really nice in it's own way and this route gives a good sampling of what Florida has to offer. British Columbia is amazing btw. In 2022 we are thinking about the BC trail. Do you think that would be a fun bicycle adventure? Thanks for watching.

    Great vid! A coast to coast ride is on my list for next year, I just did a 100mi loop route from Wekiwa Springs up to Alexander Springs and back again. Should be uploading the vid to my channel next week.

    Such great videos. We are getting ready to do the trip from Ft Desoto to St Augustine in January with Singletrack Samurai. These videos have made us even more excited about the trip. What time of year did you guys make the trip? We’ve done a lot of the western sections and know Starkey like the back of our hands since we live in Citrus Park. Thanks for the wonderful videos!!

    In Florida, sports stores sell mud boots that come up to the knee because Florida is very swampy.

    • @PedalPowerAdventures
      @PedalPowerAdventures  ปีที่แล้ว

      It is a bit swampy but also the opposite with being very sandy, haha. Every place has their own challenges.

  • @locoflahute8916

    Definitely not Colorado. Trade hills for mud, water, sand, portages. Thanks for cobbling this route together!

    • @PedalPowerAdventures
      @PedalPowerAdventures  ปีที่แล้ว

      No it's not Colorado l, but that is a good thing because it's fun to ride in different eco systems. Florida may not have mountains but the amount of wildlife and variety of terrain makes up for it. Happy Trails!

    Excellent trip and video. A question -- would this route be suitable for gravel bikes (650BX47mm tires) and credit card touring (no camping)? Thanks.

    • @PedalPowerAdventures
      @PedalPowerAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are some sand sections that will be harder on the gravel bike but is totally doable. It's possible to credit card it, we are actually considering that for the next time. It will require some longer ride days and/or diverting off route to find lodging though. Thanks for watching!

  • @FL-PHILLIP

    Can this be done on a dropbar gravel bike?

    • @PedalPowerAdventures
      @PedalPowerAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It can be done on a gravel bike but I would recommend the widest tires possible as there are a bunch of sandy sections that may reduce the fun factor. Thanks for the comment and for watching. Ride on!

    What's the name of that first single track mountain bike trail?

    • @PedalPowerAdventures

      That would be the Moses Creek Conservation Area. I just looked on trailforks and it looks to have 4 miles of mountain bike trails there.

    • @PedalPowerAdventures
      @PedalPowerAdventures  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Mountain bike would be more fun but a gravel bike will work, just may have to walk some or be tempted to skip some of the singletrack sections.
