The Florida Cost To Coast Trail 2022

  • In this video we ride the now 80% complete Florida Coast to Coast Trail. What is this you ask? Well, it's going to be a 100% multi-use paved trail from St. Petersburg on the west coast all the way to Playlinda Beach on the east coast.
    Since we love riding off-road we tweaked the route to add 30 miles of off road adventure!! This includes riding the power lines and Deliverance MTB trail in Starkey Park. To avoid the SR 50 sections we rode through the Green Swamp, which is always an highlight.
    Gotta say we had an awesome time and will do it again! This is an excellent introduction to bicycle touring or bikepacking. Get your significant other out there and do it!
    Link to the route we took: ridewithgps.co...
    Ride on!

    Very cool video, will have to put this ride on our bucket list, we live in Key Largo and ride on the overseas highway trail every day, Next month we will be biking the Natchez Trace Trail, the ride is 444 miles, starts in Natchez, Mississippi and ends in Nashville, Tenn.

      The small SR 50 section from the Withlacoochee trail where you turn off to head across the Green Swamp is still under construction and is always changing, everything else is the exact same. We may ride it again before March, if so I will let you know.

    Hi great video I think I’m going to spend the next few days watching more. Do you know if there are any organised events that use this route. I’m in the uk and I’m thinking of riding this next time I visit Orlando but don’t like the idea of riding alone in a strange country. Also would the route be suitable for a gravel bike ?

    • @PedalPowerAdventures
      @PedalPowerAdventures  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have heard there are companies that do an organized tour of this route for a fee, but don't have any info on it. Gravel bike will work. I highly recommend staying an extra day in Saint Petersburg, especially if you like art. There are numerous excellent art museums there, like the Dali, Imagine Glass Museum, Museum of the American Arts and Craft Movement. To name a few. There are also almost 500 Murals scattered throughout Pinellas County, with most of them in Saint Petersburg. We are planning on riding the GB Divide next year and looking forward to seeing your country! Happy Trails.

    I love your videos and I recently subscribed. Keep up the good work. I recently bought a new mountain bike to start the bike packing adventures. What kind of tires do you carry for this kind of adventure. On and off road. Mine is 29x2.25?
    Are you using Garmin for navigation? I used to do a lot of mountain biking with my Gary Fisher but never Bikepack. Are there any bears in our areas? Thanos Ocala

    • @PedalPowerAdventures
      @PedalPowerAdventures  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching and subscribing! We typically use 27.5x2.4 up to 3.0 tires, but any size tire will work. I prefer 29er tires but 27.5 works out better for my wife so I just run the same thing. 29x2.25 is a good size tire and that is what I use on my cross country MTB bike. We prefer Garmin for navigation, I am currently using the Edge 1040, I previously had the 830. Garmin's work really well and have excellent battery life. There are black bears in FL and we plan accordingly when in those areas. Bikepacking is a wonderful way to travel and see this awesome world. Happy Trails!

      Thanks so much. We have Why Cycles S7 bikes that we use for almost all of our bike packing trips, but the coast to coast trail could be done on pretty much any bike except for a maybe a road bike since we diverted off the actual C2C trail to ride some mountain bike trails and cut through the Green Swamp. The actual C2C route would be all paved trails and a few road sections.

    Thanks for posting your gpx route

    • @PedalPowerAdventures
      @PedalPowerAdventures  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s possible but depends on your comfort level and riding ability. It’s also obviously going to be more enjoyable on a 2” wide knobby tire. I would probably skip the Starkey park off-road sections and stay on the Suncoast Parkway and Starkey paved trail. The Green Swamp section may be worth the effort to avoid riding on paved roads. Hope think helps, happy trails!

    So you took just 2-3 days to do the entire ride? I m in Georgia. If i drive up and left my car at one end, is there public transport back from the other end?

    • @PedalPowerAdventures
      @PedalPowerAdventures  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We rode from the Crystal Beach area to Titusville in 2 days. Crystal Beach is about 34 miles from Saint Petersburg. I am not aware of any direct public transportation options to get you back. We typically will get a one-way car rental or U-haul. There are train options but is complicated (Amtrak and Brightline). Happy Trails!

Not all of the trails are well marked and is always preferred to follow a GPX track. Hope this helps, thanks for watching!

    Can you recommend a mid range bike for this?

    • @PedalPowerAdventures
      @PedalPowerAdventures  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I would recommend getting a hardtrail mountain bike or a drop bar mountain bike. A mountain bike is the jack of all trades bike that can do everything and is really not that much slower on pavement when riding at touring speeds, but way more fun in the dirt. If you feel the need for a drop bar I would go with a drop bar mountain bike next, which still gives you the comfort of a wider tire and the look of a gravel bike, if that is what you are after. This is just my opinion of course and hope it helps.

      Google maps does not support 'navigable' custom routes and I am not familiar with All Trails. You can download the route from RideWithGPS in different formats and import into other apps for routing if they support it. My recommendation is if you are wanting to use your phone for on the bike routing use RideWithGPS. Good luck and have fun!
