  • We rented an RV and cycled for six days on five different rail-trails in Florida, staying in state park or state forest campgrounds each night. The trails we rode were:
    00:00 - Our van for the week
    00:18 - Withlacoochee State Trail
    01:13 - Gainesville-Hawthorne State Trail
    03:03 - Palatka-Lake Butler State Trail
    04:28 - Jacksonville-Baldwin Trail
    05:29 - East Central Regional Rail Trail (day 1)
    06:26 - East Central Regional Rail Trail (day 2)
    Places we stayed:
    Cypress Glen Campground (in Withlacoochee State Forest)
    Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park (Micanopy)
    Mike Roess Gold Head State Park (Keystone Heights)
    Cary State Forest Campground (Bryceville)
    Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area (Flagler Beach)

    Nice work here. I’ve been biking Florida paved trails since 2011. It doesn’t get any better. I love the Jax-Baldwin Trail it’s safe and beautiful. Also, you were very close to the Lehigh Trail in Palm Coast, you only needed to go west on Highway 100 in Flagler Beach several miles to Colbert Lane then turn right, a trailhead is just on the left. Enjoy.

    Great idea to try out all these amazing rail trails. I've done about 5K miles in Florida and have biked most of them. Great video, loved it!

    Looks like y'all had a lot of fun. Are road bikes ok for such trail rides, or would gravel bikes be a better choice? Have a great 2022!

      We did have a great time. All of these trails were paved and smooth, so you can absolutely do it with a road bike (which is what we did). Happy New Year to you as well!

    The roundabouts are for emergency vehicles in case some one has a medical emergency. As you stated there is nothing out there. Otherwise they would need to travel many miles out of the way to turn around. I travel this trail 4-5 days a week. When it was being built the construction engineers told me this.

    • @jlouder
      @jlouder  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That makes complete sense, but I never would have come up with that explanation! Thanks for letting me know!

    Where did you rent the van

    • @jlouder
      @jlouder  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We rented it from RVshare from a private owner. I've also rented from private owners through Outdoorsy, and they both have a good selection of vans and RVs.

      We rented from RVshare.com, which is a place where individual RV owners can rent out their vehicles.

      We rented from RVshare, which is just private owners renting out their RVs. The person who rented us that van sold it not long after our trip, but it was great for what we needed!
