The vibes are definitely similar. ME1 was my favorite game before this one came out, now it's a shared first place. I think Sovereign hit a little harder because it was the representation of THE main antagonist, the mystical big bad. Myrkul is just one god of many and by most accounts, a pretty pathetic one. Sovereign is probably the most powerful being in the galaxy but Myrkul is a lowly god-pretender whose betters spend the whole game plotting against him (Withers is Jergal on a mission from Ao to stop the dead three, most likely).
I actually like the version where you persuade him to jump better. The opening is more chilling to me when he starts saying "he is here" before falling like he had no choice and feared Myrkul.
I feel like Myrkul's monologue about punishing you wouldn't make sense unfortunately, since he should be seriously pissed AT his Chosen for just giving up. This version makes him seem very menacing as the god who intervenes in a last ditch effort to save Ketheric/kill you.
@@jennyxu2562 I mean Myrkul might be a god but he's still one of those "lesser" gods or rather a human ascended to godhood.. I wouldnt be surprised if he still retains vestiges of that.. including fear for his Chosen/plan and pride in his own power no less.

Best moment of the game. The speech, the music, the sudden revelation that you're about to fight the avatar of a freaking god. Fantastic work, one for the ages

I mean I’d argue it is myrkul in a way. An avatar is just a regular person who essentially gave themselves up to be an earthly direct representation of their god. Ketheric Thorm died and became an avatar of Myrkul, but it is still Myrkul speaking through him. The only thing is when you kill the Apostle of Myrkul, you’re only ending his presence on Faerûn, not actually killing him. So I think it kind of is Myrkul? but he’s not the one taking damage. As amazing as this cutscene, I can't help but wonder where the scythe comes form...like did Ketheric place it there just in case? Was it summoned together with the Avatar? Is Myrkul that much of a Drama Queen that they'd just summon the scythe a bit out of reach to dramatically telekinetic it?
Myrkul isn't as ambitious as the other Dead Three, as death is inevitable. But he does delight in causing fear in people. Stories say he would often appear at open graves, scythe in hand, then slowly fade away just to show that he was coming for you...eventually...just not yet. I bet when he appeared in this fight he wasn't even mad, that isn't his style. He was just showing the kids who reins here, and it is him...mistake on his part was not taking them as seriously as he should have. That all to say is I wouldn't put it past him to be a Drama Queen, as he would def want them to be afraid. He might not have even chased them if they ran, because no one can really outrun death.
