    Some wonderful comments! I did disconnect the battery and someone mentioned you should use a shunt.. Or better yet take the tailgate off. Thank you all for contributing and I'm so Thankful you are enjoying my hard work. Also I didn't realize this but if you have no cover you should add a seal.

    Cool project, and you did a great job. Regarding the video itself, though, you raced through the important parts - I would have appreciated more discussion of the frame-in-frame design, for example - and lingered over the less important details. Everyone already knows how to spray paint, how to ruin the wife's blow dryer when she's not home, etc.

    • @KCreations4You

      I didn't see anything to explain there it is a frame in a frame but I will try to improve in the future. In the meantime, I will post in the description to help as I can't go back lol.

    That is brilliant! I’m a “Find storage in every little niche” kind of guy, and I love this idea. Just one word of advice: Get a patent or copyright or something on this. The auto manufacturers have probably already watched this and will be coming out with “new and improved” do-everything tailgates. The already have the steps and bells and whistles, so I don’t know why somebody hasn’t thought of this - till now! Good on you!

      A patent attorney will usually charge between $8,000 and $10,000 for a patent application, but the cost can be higher. In most cases, you should budget between $15,000 and $20,000 to complete the patenting process for your invention.

    Cool idea. The only problem i see is that u didn't put any weather stripping along the edges of the opening. U might open that up one day and find it full of water and possibly get your wiring exposed to moisture

    Good job, KC, it looks great. But I agree with you about cutting open the tailgate. Not in my truck, at least not by me... I just put a 7/16ths sheet of OSB on the bed, pinned two slats of OSB strips long enough to chock in a Rubbermaid Tote up against the forward bulkhead of the truck bed and the left side of the truck bed.
    I keep my cargo straps, 2" receiver hitch plug, jumper cables, and anything else I care to put in the Tote. Works well for me.
    This is not to denigrate your excellent work. Your tailgate adaptation looks fabulous. It's just that I decide to keep things very simple.

    I have a 2013 ram 2500 5.7L. I was tempted and have been pondering an idea about expanding the storage of my rear seat, floorboard cubbyholes. I have my straps in there, but my kinetic rope barely fits behind the seat of the rear.

Traded that truck in 2021 for a new Ram 2500 and put a B&W gooseneck hitch in that truck too, drilling that 4” hole didn’t get any easier! LOL

    This is my favorite tailgate storage build yet. I love how you used the original cut out as the lid. You also didn’t make a box to insert, just used the hole as storage but sort of made a box by sectioning off the area from the underneath with the foam. My only concern is how long will the foam last and is this water proof?

    • @KCreations4You

    Thank youf ro sharing this KCreation ;) I bought an old Silverado and the tailgate is in great shape on the outside but apparently something hit it from the inside at high velocity and bent the tailgate to the point it is very difficult to open and close. I'm going to need to either find a way to straighten it or replace it. I was considering making a tailgate but I think I am going to do a hybrid with storage now. Basically, I'll make a tailgate that is a storage box with diamond plate lid but recess it into the skin if the original after it is relieved and straightened. Sort of like you have but the whole tailgate will be a storage box.

      Sure, If you check out my Facebook you can even see pictures. Rarely does water get in there as I don't drive around with my tailgate open and it dries out in about a day when I haul something in the rain with it open. The foam goes back to its original shape as stuff moves around. The door could use a rubber liner as stuff does rub the paint. I touched it up with paint once. There is no sign of it from the outside. The bad---I should have used stainless steel hinges and will replace them one day, There should be a rubber part on it to stop rubbing, and I love it would do it again!

    So I’m not sure what the financial company has to do with modifying the truck that you own they loaned out money for you to buy the truck but it’s your truck

    • @KCreations4You
      @KCreations4You  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I was told if you lease a vehicle it has to come back without modifications. Just thought I would caution just in case.

    • @jonathanhafner4934
      @jonathanhafner4934 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes loaning money for a vehicle or leasing a vehicle are two different things. When you lease it you definitely have to bring it back without mods. Or only mods that are made by the manufacturer or by company’s that are certified by the manufacturer. At least here in Germany it’s the case but both of you should be right😅👍🏼

    A lender has no say in what you do to or with the truck YOU own. They’ve loaned you money, not the truck. They can accept the truck as collateral in case you don’t pay, but it’s your truck until/unless you default.

      But if you screw up the tailgate and then default on the loan they could possibly sue you for the cost to repair.

    • @AdmiralDG
      @AdmiralDG 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@davidbabcock5172 Nope, they just auction it and charge you the difference(usually in collections since you defaulted) from the amount you owe and what they sell it for. The only issues you cause yourself is owing more if you damage the vehicle or alter it and it sells for less at auction.
      Knowledge based on previous experience as a debt collector.
      Of course whatever contract you sign with the bank can have special terms that allow for them to collect in a multitude of ways, however they often use the boiler plate standard as its the simplest for them to recover funds with minimal cost.

    Good creativity. Easy for us to be armchair posters. I only have two recommendations. 1. Get a tailgate from junkyard to hack on and save original when truck is sold or traded. 2. That can't be weather proof.
    But it's a great idea.

    • @PTRRanger951
      @PTRRanger951 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It doesn’t have to be weatherproof. The tailgates are not sealed to begin with and will drain any water they get in them. They are not made to keep water and dust out.

    Quick tip when cutting it out don't use things that creates heat like a cut off wheel. This will heat up the metal causing spots for rust. Also I found out if you are getting a big load of wood you should get the straps out first. Luckily the forklift guy picked them up enough for me to get them out. 😃
