    Some wonderful comments! I did disconnect the battery and someone mentioned you should use a shunt.. Or better yet take the tailgate off. Thank you all for contributing and I'm so Thankful you are enjoying my hard work. Also I didn't realize this but if you have no cover you should add a seal.

      Just wanted to add that you may want to put welding blanket to stop welding spatter ( cherries) from damaging paint on outside tailgate. Also if you keep your ground close to your work it won't arc across hinges or bearings. And yes I learned these points the hard way.

    • @KCreations4You

      @@quasar1184 That's some good points. I never thought of how bearings could be affected by welding. I have a video that I'm not sure if I'm going to post it where I wish I knew that.

    Cool project, and you did a great job. Regarding the video itself, though, you raced through the important parts - I would have appreciated more discussion of the frame-in-frame design, for example - and lingered over the less important details. Everyone already knows how to spray paint, how to ruin the wife's blow dryer when she's not home, etc.

  • @barrykelly2722
    @barrykelly2722 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Good creativity. Easy for us to be armchair posters. I only have two recommendations. 1. Get a tailgate from junkyard to hack on and save original when truck is sold or traded. 2. That can't be weather proof.
    But it's a great idea.

    • @PTRRanger951
      @PTRRanger951 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It doesn’t have to be weatherproof. The tailgates are not sealed to begin with and will drain any water they get in them. They are not made to keep water and dust out.

    Well done. Not hiding the error and showing what your plan to fix it is helpful to many people.
    Only thing that worried me was welding on the truck and not having the shunt attached to the battery.
    The electrical surge from welding can create problems in the different computer control modules.
    Older rigs the trick was disconnecting the battery but newer ones that doesn’t always work.
    I used to own a truck equipment shop and learned GM was the most forgiving for this issue.

    Cool idea. The only problem i see is that u didn't put any weather stripping along the edges of the opening. U might open that up one day and find it full of water and possibly get your wiring exposed to moisture

    • @KCreations4You
      @KCreations4You  2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I wish I would have mentioned that as I have a tunnel cover. I did experience that one time when I left it open and we got a big storm. Tailgates and doors are designed to drain any water that finds its way in them but only in their upright position. I think your idea of weather stripping is awesome to solve it altogether.

    That is brilliant! I’m a “Find storage in every little niche” kind of guy, and I love this idea. Just one word of advice: Get a patent or copyright or something on this. The auto manufacturers have probably already watched this and will be coming out with “new and improved” do-everything tailgates. The already have the steps and bells and whistles, so I don’t know why somebody hasn’t thought of this - till now! Good on you!

      A patent attorney will usually charge between $8,000 and $10,000 for a patent application, but the cost can be higher. In most cases, you should budget between $15,000 and $20,000 to complete the patenting process for your invention.

    Good job, KC, it looks great. But I agree with you about cutting open the tailgate. Not in my truck, at least not by me... I just put a 7/16ths sheet of OSB on the bed, pinned two slats of OSB strips long enough to chock in a Rubbermaid Tote up against the forward bulkhead of the truck bed and the left side of the truck bed.
    I keep my cargo straps, 2" receiver hitch plug, jumper cables, and anything else I care to put in the Tote. Works well for me.

      There is no parts list it's not that critical. If you don't have a welder you certainly could rivet the whole thing. Some may think it look bad others would say it looks awesome. The corners would be a week point I would either rivet a L corner bracket in or better find a person to weld that part they will charge 5 maybe 10 bucks. This is by far my most used project to date and it still works amazing.
