My whole life I have been asked what do you want to do for a career. I never could answer them but I sure loved making things. Someone that loves me one day said have you thought of TH-cam for a Job? It would be a dream Job and here I am giving it a go. I probably will fail but you can't say you know if you would have without trying. I hope that I can inspire others to be more creative in their daily life even if they don't build the same things I do. Just go, give it a try, whats the worst that will happen? You fail?

Nice job brother! 👍🏼
That would be great for a couple long guns, like a couple shotguns, AR-15's, AR-10's or AK's and a bunch of ammo!
I was thinking about a build for rifles. Not sure yet.
Rachet strap through each bag handle and attach strap to each side just inside right behind tailgate. done!
you can do it if you buy a new tailgate, wont void a warranty
Good point
Moving forward do not weld on your truck you could cook your electrical modules. Great idea tho.
I disconnected the battery. No different than having a body shop pull a panel or any other custom fabricated work. Great looking out though. Make sure you have a good ground to complete the circuit.
@@KCreations4You your absolutely right, body shop guys know to disconnect tho. I’ve seen apprentices let the ghost out of modules just trying to weld a safety chain on heavy trucks. Your welcome
Horrible job filming! Can't see anything being done.
I do my best for not having anyone to film as I work.
Thank you thank you thank you. You got my subscribe. You save a lot of time and headache. I couldn’t find where to get big servo
You are genius i couldn’t found way to make my throttle work
So I’m not sure what the financial company has to do with modifying the truck that you own they loaned out money for you to buy the truck but it’s your truck
I was told if you lease a vehicle it has to come back without modifications. Just thought I would caution just in case.
That's an Amazing idea my friend.
Thank you outlaw. I'm happy you enjoyed it.
Well done. Not hiding the error and showing what your plan to fix it is helpful to many people. Only thing that worried me was welding on the truck and not having the shunt attached to the battery. The electrical surge from welding can create problems in the different computer control modules. Older rigs the trick was disconnecting the battery but newer ones that doesn’t always work. I used to own a truck equipment shop and learned GM was the most forgiving for this issue.
I wish I had shown it but I did disconnected the battery is that not enough?
Really cool idea. I would consider some sort of padding on the bottom side so metal hooks, hitches and other things don't dent and transfer through on the outside of the tail gate. I could imagine pock marks and stuff transferring though
Am I mistaken I thought I did?
I've seen this style of compartment done a couple times, but this is probably the best one I've seen!
I feel honored, Thank you. I have drug a lot of stuff across it no mercy and it's doing very well.
updates on how it's working longterm?
I have recent pictures on my FB and it is doing really well. I will do this to my next truck. I do freshen the paint on the outside like once a year but I drag stuff across it allot.
You can add a bar between the handles so you only have to use one handle to open, like a truck toolbox
That is an amazing idea!
You have to agree to your contents you know it must be some bad comments. Welding on the back of your truck wow I hope you disconnected your battery so that you fry your computer and your electronics, let’s not mention all of the sparks are molten metal, just saying.
I did and I agree. I think I will pin a comment. Thank you!
Pretty gutsy to do that on your new truck. Still liking this modification?
Absolutely! I use it all the time. I thought I used stainless hinges but somehow didn't so I would change that next time and if you don't have a cover of some sort a seal is recommended.
I wish my truck had that feature. I'd put the same stuff in there plus a tow strap and wheel nut socket 👍
I do carry a tow trap but under may passenger seat is a stock jack and wrench. They are not horrible otherwise I would so use your awesome idea.
Great build! Thanks for posting.
You're very welcome!
Great job bro!
Thank you David!
Wow. You are a DIY king, and even if your wife ever finds out about the missing emblem, I don't see why she would mind.
She loved it and Thank you I try my best.
My only concern would be water getting in there now.. I wonder how you could have made somewhat weather resistant with the metal being wavy
I have a cover but I think a simple rubber gasket going around it would work.
sadly all of the metal you remove makes the tailgate that much weaker, yes i know there are supports but anytime you remove metal it weakens the over all structure of the part.
That's a great point. I have walked on it loaded 4 wheelers, zero turns, and a small tractor without issue so I guess it's strong enough for what I do.
I just stretched rubber tie-downs across the back 2 tie hooks , bags and boxes get hugged between the straps & the tailgate , about $ 5.00 Canadian.
Thats a great idea.
nice, it turned out good.
Thank you Mikp
I'm making one this weekend but im going to cut the plug off and put clamps on the cord so I can just hook to the battery . It will be handy for roadside emergencies, farm work, camping. ...
I almost didn't post this as a video. I thought it was just something I would do so I'm glad you found it useful.
I saw your inside the tailgate storage and I'm hooked. Both are genius ideas. I'm doing the tailgate storage to both trucks and this to the short box ram.
Thank you. I might do more storage areas in the future but we will see.
That is brilliant! I’m a “Find storage in every little niche” kind of guy, and I love this idea. Just one word of advice: Get a patent or copyright or something on this. The auto manufacturers have probably already watched this and will be coming out with “new and improved” do-everything tailgates. The already have the steps and bells and whistles, so I don’t know why somebody hasn’t thought of this - till now! Good on you!
A patent attorney will usually charge between $8,000 and $10,000 for a patent application, but the cost can be higher. In most cases, you should budget between $15,000 and $20,000 to complete the patenting process for your invention.
I was concerned about dings in the outer skin until you put the foam in the storage area. Nice job
Thank you Tim!
And lines up at the dealership about a rattle i can't pin point 😅😅😅
Lol
Looks nice a very creative idea
Thank you haygood9!
Incredible
Thanks Asgard!
Why would you need extra storage in a pickup truck, you have the whole box, the sides of the box if you have the storage option, don’t waste your money on storage in tailgate.
It was like 30 bucks and I don't have to get in the truck bed cause everything slid everywhere. But if it's not your thing it's not your thing. :)
Hot video! Sounds like a good deal for a starter forge/smelter. Definitely would have to agree about the handle.
Nice!!! I have no issue with the rivets rusting, unlike some people, I know that aluminum does not rust. 😅
You made my day. I am glad you enjoyed it.
Can you share the website where I can buy your solution.
I have it in the description.
Well I know what to get for an anniversary gift next year now.
Shhhh, He might be on here. :)
Looks like you didn't get the best alloy of aluminum for bending. Try 3003 for future reference (not the stuff at home depot probably)
Good to know. Probably would have saved me money too. Thank you for sharing that!
Great idea, poor execution.
Works well for me. Can I see yours?
When the rivet holes for the latches rust out and the inside of the tailgate get scratched to shit and rusts apart let me know how well it works for you bud.
@@shaneeickmeier6213 Oh well it's been 3 years. There's no issue other than I bought the wrong hinges by mistake. Feel free to check out my update pics on my Facebook page, which I posted a few days ago. I agree though I could do better. I also wouldn't recommend a mod for using a truck for work if you are worried about it getting scratched however in the comments and in the description I mention you could put a rubber lining to improve it. Hope that helps.
I feel like you took my initial message as a personal attack. It was not. Have a great day.
Nope all good 👍
Great vid man! Concise, honest, no faff 🙌 thanks. Subscribed
I might do a bigger one. Is that something you would like to see?
@@KCreations4You yeah go for it! I’m looking into the same! A lot of rocks and excess solar on my land 🙌 I was thinking of a one stage smoothing on a much grander scale so as you could use bulk smoothed stones for driveways etc! Too ambitious maybe? 😂
Manufacturers should offer more storage options. They would probably only charge 11k for this tailgate storage box.
The 2024 canon comes with this now.
nice work, A seal around the box would be even better but it looks like you use a tonneu cover.
I think a seal would be a good idea either way but yes mine stays dry in less I have the gate down.
no im wondering WHY you didnt just put groceries in the back seat.. but continue lol
Cause I have a family :) The rest was an exaggeration but stuff does end up moved around.
I have to put groceries in the back cuz my dog rides up front with me. I've learned my lesson when he ate half of a smoked brisket while I was in the gas station.
That is an awesome idea! I feel your pain on cutting into a brand new truck. I cut the bed of a brand new 2016 Ram 3500 dually for a B&W turnover ball gooseneck hitch, NERVE RACKING. Traded that truck in 2021 for a new Ram 2500 and put a B&W gooseneck hitch in that truck too, drilling that 4” hole didn’t get any easier! LOL Again, awesome idea and heck of a build. 👍🏼👍🏼
That would be even more nerve-racking cause it would be harder to replace. Thank you!
Why not just order the truck with the Reese kit that Ram offers? I love mine.
@@TehButterflyEffect price and I don't think they have them for 2018s. Plus never seen one can I have a link?
Dodge needs you to its team. My 2023 Rams Dually 3500 got nothing to hide…nothing to store. Dodge does not hire you or at least pay you for your ideas. My next Dually 3500 will be Chevy.
Thank you! You can put this in a lot of trucks. Chevy has some cool features.
It’s been 3 years, how about an honest update? I’d like to know how much water that sponge held and how deeply the metal parts of your straps wore into the door due to vibration. Thanks
Sure, If you check out my Facebook you can even see pictures. Rarely does water get in there as I don't drive around with my tailgate open and it dries out in about a day when I haul something in the rain with it open. The foam goes back to its original shape as stuff moves around. The door could use a rubber liner as stuff does rub the paint. I touched it up with paint once. There is no sign of it from the outside. The bad---I should have used stainless steel hinges and will replace them one day, There should be a rubber part on it to stop rubbing, and I love it would do it again!
Good idea for an old truck. Bed boxes by the wheel area seems smarter.
If you prefer. I thought of doing both but would want to build those too.
Great project, and it's great to see how you reasoned through it. Not sure the juice is worth the squeeze, though.....offer it as a kit with various interior options....
That would be cool. Like different handles, lights, and things to hold stuff more still. I wish my audience was bigger. Great idea!
Corect... maybe trailer hauler, woodcutter, shooting setups....
@@stephanpetranker8994 Ow ya!
Very Cool
Thank you David!
