@Pete Mitchell If anything McMahon was under rated. Not a player you hear about much now, he just fitted into that magnificent Liverpool team of 1987-91. Liverpool always struggled for consistency and form without him whenever he was sidelined through injury, especially in 1990-91.

JAN MOLBY PLAYED FOR LIVERPOOL 1984 ONWARDS. AS HE PLAYED 1984 LEAGUE CUP FINAL EUROPEAN CUP FINAL. STEVE MCMAHON WAS A VERY GOOD PLAYER. I RECKON THERE WAS THINGS SOME PLAYERS DO BETTER OTHERS TEAMS THEY FIT IN TO. I STILL TAKE MCMAHON OVER EVEN ROBSON AND I HOLD HIM HIGH.
Another Evertonian that excelled with the other lot. He had some great duels with Peter Reid. Haha, I detested Steve when he was in red, but I had to acknowledge he was a brilliant player and scored some spectacular goals from outside the box.
Ironically, the seeds of LFC's decline were sown towards the end of the incredible 87-88 season when Mark Lawrenson limped off with an Achilles injury in March '88 never to return. If you look at the results from that point on they were never quite that good again, even as they beat Forest 5-0 in April. At that point the club should have gone big in the transfer market for two world class CDs to replace Lawro and Hansen. Over the next two seasons they lost important games due to defensive frailties (Wimbledon in the '88 FA Cup, Arsenal in the '89 title decider, to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup semifinal in '90 and then conceding four the following season to Everton in the cup-tie in February). At which point Kenny resigned and the rest is history. Whatever the next few seasons brings the club MUST prepare properly for the departure of Salah, Mane, Klopp and others so they're not left in the lurch again. It took them 30 years to rectify that problem and it looks like Man Utd are going the same way...
You’ve absolutely nailed it, along with Craig Johnstone retiring Nigel Spackman leaving as well. Players were just not being replaced John Aldridge, leaving in 89 was also another very bad decision.
As an Evertonian I begrudged his success but I agree what a player. The club did the same to Gary Steven's and Trevor Steven - crap wages. Wish him every success. Glad to hear his take on the Arsenal game. No disaster 2nd double at Anfield.
It was better there was no over zealous celebrations at Anfield considering what happened a month earlier at Hillsborough. So an Arsenal victory was best for all concerned.

I didn't really like him, I thought he was a danger to people and that wasn't a good thing. I am a LFC fan as well. Going out to hurt people in a football game isn't good. the thing was he was actually a good player without all that.
Steve you should have asked SOUNESS . Are you in his plans?????? instead of that. That's absolutely stupid. SOUNESS would see that if a player wants to leave then they dont want to be there no ASS KISSING. SO STEVE YOUR WRONG.
Steve is a lovely fella. Him 5 or 6 stood and gave autographs 1986 October 😀👏👏👏
Loved this man as a player.. Hard as but very underrated as a player. One of my Idols as a kid

Absolutely, along with Beardsley. That's when the club went into a thirty year decline!
@@benphilips9918 Exactly. Souness was a horrific manager. Can list so many players that he got rid of that we should have kept.
