As a survivor of pen 3 that day, Thanks Aldo la, for all the goals, but more importantly all that you and many others did to help ALL who suffered, and still do to this day, a hero on the pitch, and a true human being off it. Y.N.W.A. J.F.T.97. and every-one affected.
What about it? What is your point, have you got a point? Does that tragedy mean Liverpool players, fans and those bereaved families can’t discuss Hillsborough?
I love Liverpool FC and John Aldridge this jnterview brought tears to my eyes and left me shook up God bless you John and all the Hillsborough victims 🙏
I remember the incident and it did look bad. Full marks to Aldo for bringing it up here himself, and all evidence suggests that it was out of character.
Let me just say this. John is the most genuine person who you could wish to meet. Walked past him in the airport one day as he was on the same flight to Dublin as myself. I said hello and he smiled back and said hello. Just that small gesture shows he's no prima Donna and a proper top bloke. Small things but big things make a difference. Certain other players should try to be half the person he is!
I was playing football that day....someone had the match on the radio...and as it unfolded...both teams just sat beside each other and listened in stunned silence.
The whole Hillsborough incident was absolutely tragic. 15 days after that match, Liverpool travelled to Glasgow to play Celtic in a charity match to raise money for the families and victims of the Hillsborough tragedy. I will never forget the 1 minutes silence before kick off and me standing in “The Jungle” area of Celtic Park. The silence was beyond eerie. God bless John Aldridge, he has a heart of gold 💛🙏
Wow John to hear your personal experience is overwhelming to say the least - little do us fan's know exactly what the players went through - the details you described - we are all thankful to hear because those of us who do not live in Liverpool will never truly understand the impact to the City - the whole world was feeling sorrow - but wow can't say anymore really - truly devastating those poor LFC fans may they rest in peace always (Hats off to you John a striker who knew where the back off the net was).
I don't think football fans who are not Liverpool fans understand how much Hillsborough decimated Liverpool as a club for years, if it wasn't for the strength of the people at the club like aldo and Kenny to name a few, i think the pain would have been a million times worse than it already was, through their strength and will to give back to the fans who suffered that day is exemplary and what football can be all about when it's needed most 👍 YNWA
(MrJLc93) LFC fan here I watched it unfold, lived in London at the time and your spot on, it's impossible to understand how Hillsborough decimated the city and still people are decimated as I have friends in Liverpool - what a wonderful City and that includes Everton fans - the best City in England
Totally agree with you on how it decimated the club for years its forgotten now in the history books Arsenal winning 2 -0 at Anfield but what is forgotten we had to play a ton of games in a short space of time it was also a big part of are fall from winning everything in my eyes
Legend aldo and a magnificent goalscorer from an oldham fan i saw your hat trick in 85 at oxford 5.2 v oldham superb and we all remember Hillsborough like it was yesterday as you said ..we will never forget that day at least the real football fans wont ..i can feel your hurt in this interview john you are a class act and to let this man go to spain was an absolutely monumental mistake
As a Man City fan this interview and this topic is so difficult to hear. Now as always my deepest condolences and sympathies to all affected , and to think they dragged the club and its city through the dirt during this time is criminal. ❤️
You can see how raw emotion 😢 still in aldo's voice still to this day. It sickens me how these rival fans think its banter singing about Hillsborough. That tragedy could have been any team fans back in the 80s. Anyone who takes satisfaction in innocent fans losing their lives are absolute lowest of the low.
Legend end off. Loved Aldo just glad he played for LFC oh and Ireland. Never forget him on the touchline against Mexico then goin on and scoring that header. ❤🇮🇪
I was on line street station that morning getting a train to Wigan and as I was in the station I saw a train leaving for Sheffield. Often wondered how many on that train didn't make it back. Awful day for so many people
I remember watching this unfolding on tv, a scouse kid was shouting he still had his ticket, he never said why he didn’t and hadn’t turned up earlier and handed his ticket in at the entrance. Very sad times for those who died
Everton fan here and I always thought he was a bit of a nob but credit to him, tough to listen to that and what he personally went thru, superb player who I hated lol, all the best to him tho. Pure striker.
Aldo is solid. He was wonderful at Tranmere. These past few months, how we could have done with Aldo in the Liverpool front line. So many shots. So few went in. He knew where the net was. I will never in future omit to name him along with the great goal scorers: Rush, Dalgleish, Owen, Fowler, Suarez
FA. chief,,, Kelly should be in court he knew that ground ws unsafe,,,, Same with United Munich 58 the FA wanted United back asap,,, They forced United to return early. FA are pathetic
Always seem Liverpool fans in this issue why? They stopped other clubs being in Europe including the club he came from. He never mentions this at amy time.
No one is going to tell me the Liverpool fans (not the ones who died) were totally blameless for what happened. Yes the Police made all sorts of errors but if people were orderly no one would have gotten crushed.
Read the reports the fans had nothing to do with it. No matter what you want to believe. It was a monumental cock up by the authorities. Those innocent fans were funnelled into already packed central pens when the ones either side had plenty of space. Do some research before spouting shite that the scum paper spewed out.
Nobody is trying to tell you that, the hillsborough inquest and glaring evidence should be enough to make anyone with a brain that the crush was caused by police failure
I stood on the KOP as a 15 yr old kid from a cardiff council estate...First game of the session 1977...im 62 now...John talking about the small child's coffin..heartbreaking : RIP.. to all the families ,thoughts & prayers 2024 8th April....

@@ossie82vile comment lad. No need.
@@gazb34 upset ya did it

@@ossie82 nobody asked you like nobody ever does , because nobody cares about you and nobody loves you
What a bloke, honest, humble and an incredible ambassador for Liverpool Football Club, no family like the Liverpool FC family! YNWA
Proud to be a RED ✊🏽❤

Tell that to Juve supporters.

I was on the other side that day. Halfway line in the forest chairs. Huge respect to John. He was a fantastic player.
Good on Aldo for mentioning the Brian Laws head rub. As he acknowledges it looked terrible. Happy to hear their are no bad feelings between them.
I remember watching that what Aldo had done and I never thought he meant it in a bad way. I just thought it was his way of showing his relief

Can see his emotion still all these years later. ❤

Rangers supporters do. 66 supporters were crushed to death 18 years before Hillsborough.
I shed a tear listening to Aldo.
Forest fans were class that day
I almost shed one as well
From a stockport county fan.. What a football legend..
Good on you aldo ❤ I was there too that terrible day west stand ❤ you'll never walk alone
What an amazing human being. John Aldridge, respect to you.
What a genuine bloke and horrendous to have gone through that. Respect. SAFC
Well done John. Not only was that powerful, I could feel your pain. Always here for you as you have been for Us

What a man 🌟🌟🌟
You forget that his goal v Mexico got us through through the group despite the 2-1 loss in '94!
Aldo is 100% passion. Ireland & Liverpool legend
I remember watching this unfolding on tv, a scouse kid was shouting he still had his ticket, he never said why he didn’t and hadn’t turned up earlier and handed his ticket in at the entrance. Very sad times for those who died
5 years later Aldo scored in World Cup 94. All important goal...
God bless you John Aldridge, Liverpool F.C and the Hillsborough 97.......YNWA!! ❤
John as a Good Lad
John never had a bad word said about you loved all over the world
Just broke me watching this. Always thought he was a decent and genuine guy, Aldo. #JFT97
Aldo, one of our own!
Fair play Aldo...im a Forest fan,nd that annoyed me what you done on Laws...however it pails into insignificance...RIP The 97

Wow.
ESPN 30 for 30 "Hillsborough", the first football (soccer to the States) documentary watched
fucking hell.
Then they were expected to carry on playing football - no counselling, distress and the trauma. Yes Arsenal talk about a hollow victory.

Not surprising that Arsenal won the title that season is it?
