Two tips. Shiny bathroom floors are pretty, but slippery. The other smaller tiles are better if you really want shiny or not. The smaller tiles give you more grout lines and more room to grip.
My thoughts exactly, shiny definitely is slippery.
Shiny anywhere but walls is slippery.
Most tile stores will permit you to bring home samples for free or allow you to buy a tile sample. This is very important, as the lighting in a showroom is very different from your home lighting. I just finished rehabbing two bathrooms and brought multiple tiles home for on-site viewing. Random selection without viewing in your space could be very costly when it's not really perfect for your application.
@@djmacsgarden I wondered if they let you do that.
Don't put shining on the floors, very slippery when wet.
“Sowing your oats” with pink tile…you girls are wild ones for sure.😅. Do like your toilet brush and pretty container. Yes, Kelsey was fun with a great sense of humor interacting with her celebrity friend.
GET.THE.PINK!!! Why be "sensible?" It's your home. Get what sparks joy...and I heard a lot of joy in your voice over the pink.
Be aware of the slip factor. Shiny tiles are more slippery. Also the larger the tile, the more likely they might crack if the floors have movement.
You should let a sales person help you , they might help you fine things in the tile stores. And give advice.
Shiny tile can be SUPER slippery, especially if wet. Just sayin' !😉
I grew up with a pink bathroom, pink tiles and fixtures, black accents. Never grew tired of it.
❤ pink
For the upstairs bathroom, a tile shaped similar to your leaded window would be nice.
Yes! Great suggestion! I hope she sees your comment and goes with that idea. It would really look so nice. :)
My daughter put the flat shiny floors in her bathrooms. Not as slippery as you think. Barefoot not slippery, socks…depends on your socks. I love it. I will put them in my bathroom when I remodel. You are making the hard choices now…the creative and permanent choices. Have fun with your styles! - watching from Lake Wales , Florida
Agree. When shopping for bathroom renos, we were avoiding shiny floor tile. But a store attendant showed us it wasn't as slippery as we thought.
Went with it (and just realized while writing, the only problem so far has been my sister's Crocs hitching onto the tile in her bathroom which made her lose balance).
Went with shiny in the kitchen, too and so far no slipping. Just easy to mop, really.
❤😊the house looks absolutely gorgeous 😊
Ahh, the IKEA experience! "Not finding what you came for, but going home with some other knickknacks instead" 😉
I love, love, love the pale pink. It is VERY sensible and neutral.
Great progress!!! 🥰🎶🌻🎶🏡🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
If you drywall your basement stairs…it will not seem so creepy😳😃. Oh, and paint the back and bottom of the stairs overhead going down there…👍🏻
On the open side of the stairs...a black scroll work of iron would pop and be functional and eye catching plus add some safety.
I was thinking the same thing a few videos ago. It will give it style plus like you said, safety.
Don't forget that you can cut most larger tiles down as long as you don't overdo it. It takes ample time to cut tile.
The bigger the better for tile.-less grout lines to get dirty. Floor tiles and wall tiles are not interchangeable. You can use floor tiles on a wall, but not vice versa.
NEVER white on the floor. I have them, it's a nightmare.
I agree! I had them in my old house, had to be mopped EVERY day!
AND no white or light grey grout! They attract dirt like you wouldn't believe! I would never have white floors!
I'm surprised the male clerks in those stores weren't falling all over themselves trying to help two beautiful girls! 😉
It's looking great
Abby. Sometimes
Another opinion
Is very helpful.
Weigh your options 😊
After looking @ tile you hv to sleep on it n may go in a different direction of your original ideal. When u first stared and said guess where we r going, I thought it would be to buy switch plates. Lol! Your new home is coming together n so exciting. Beautiful! Just a little tip, smaller the tile, more grout n places to keep clean. Speaking from experience!
I'm thinking windows, baseboards, flooring and outfit kitchen and bathrooms plus laundry room! Maybe your first christmas in your new beautiful home? Getting so close!
Make your own looseleaf portfolio of colors, paint, tile, etc. Talk to a pro for design ideas & safety considerations. Bring your book whenever you shop for big stuff and you will not get overwhelmed. Same for outdoors ideas.. It's fun to go girl shopping. So fun. They have wonderful bath mats!!! So fun you scored a toilet bowl cleaner. Plunger?
brush?
I am excited for you to be at this stage. You, Jay, and everyone else have brought it a long way from the purple paint and creepy bathroom. House looks so good!
Internet! Everything is there, no walking and no gas burned.😁
Abby sorry you didn't find your tile. But you will, Seeing all the painting that's been done is amazing, just love it.❤
Everything looks fabulous ❤️😁🌹
Don’t worry about tile being shiny, slick.
I’ve been here since the very beginning and it’s absolutely amazing to see what you’ve accomplished! It all looks beautiful!
Kelsey 👍 seems like a logical and lovely young lady.
You should have gone to Home Depot. We got our bathroom tile there. They are also reasonable. Look online to get an idea. It's hard to choose from all the tiles out there. Good luck finding what you want. We just live 30 minutes outside of Ottawa.
Hello from the rocky mid-coast of Maine, US. Tuesday, May 14th, 2024.
I worked on the mechanized farm of my late uncle when I was a teenager during Harvest in Ontario. Grain farm. I was hatched in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in 1952.
You are right, Abby!! The view from the slider's is Beautiful!! Can't wait to see what's next!! God Bless A Drill & A Dream
Hi Abby,
All your walls look amazing! And the view
is out of this world. Oh sissy you don’t know
how bad I’d love have the emojis on most of these
comments instead of thumbs up,
cause there would be TONS of these
😂😂😂😂😂,,,to cute and funny all the
same time!
Good luck with your tile search ❤
Picking out tile so cool!
Ooo sliding those tiles against each other!!! Fingernails on blackboard!
Bigger tile, less grout lines👏🏻👏🏻😃
i love how your house is coming along. it is nice to see your smile shine.
Isn't it amazing how you can go into a store dedicated to tile and not find anything, shopping is fun but sometimes it is unbelievably hard to find the exact thing you have in mind. Take your time you will find it.
All painted, now comes the fun time. Light fixtures, wood trim, wood floors. Outlet and switch covers go on so easy. All these little things come together for the finished look. I'm so excited for you!
House looks great, love watching two pretty girls shop lol
Abby this is SO WONDERFUL!! RHG
That view with a pretty deck and walkways will be even more beautiful!!
You have to check all the options out so you don't install something and THEN find your dream tiles. Can't wait till you're able to move. So much progress has been made ❤ Thanks for sharing all your experiences and thoughts!!
Abby, I am really impressed the way your sheet rock came out being a first time doing that taping and mud, you did fantastic little lady.
You need to meet with a decorator. That's not to be mean or rude but they are so helpful & can explain do's & don'ts. Especially with tiles.
Abby, this was a fun video. It was nice to see Kelsey again. At Ikea, I thought you had purchased light fixtures, when you said they were toilet brush holders, I had a good laugh. Having always bought whatever toilet brush set is available at a discount store, which are boring, I think you need to put the new ones to good use in both bathrooms. They are so pretty and will keep your bathrooms looking stylish. Your house is coming together so very nicely. 😊😊😊
🌸 The girl with the pink purse is surprised to find out she likes pink tile. ? 😂
😂
I agree. Shiny is normally very slippery for the floor.😊
Your adventure was fun!! I must say I really love the light pink!! It wouldn't be intrusive, but would add a bit of interest. 😊💕 It was nice to meet your friend! Great video!!
Tile on the floor is hard on feet, legs.
That's OK Abby, wait until you find what you are looking for. It's such a hard decision, because it very permanent.
When we redid our entire kitchen in order to make a good educated decision I had to take a few sample tiles and cupboard doors home to check in our home and in our lighting. I had originally wanted oak cabinets with a cream or white floor and countertops. I ended up choosing Hickory cupboards a natural two tone gray outdoor natural tiles for floor and a black and woodsie green speckles countertops of quartz. The finished product with stainless steel with black knobs on the appliances is timeless and we love it.
Thanks Abby. Enjoyed watching. Things are looking awesome. Love the view from the sliding glass door ❤️
So much rock around a rock retainer wall in the creek with black plastic as a sealer would highlight the sound of running water Abbie dear .
Don’t choose it if you don’t LOVE it. Not a great feeling having a fixture that doesn’t bring you joy and make you smile ❤ Also, I had tiles, they are gorgeous. However, be aware of the slippery factor, plus they take forever to dry after mopping.
I know that whatever you decide will look gorgeous! I adore the herringbone design. I lived with tile in my kitchen and bathrooms for years and finally went to wood floors and couldn’t be happier! Cleaning is so much easier 🙏💞
It is beautiful there!
Maybe hard to find that tile color as it was popular 10-20 years ago.
The view and the creek sounds are heavenly!!! and I have shiny tiles and they are so slippery, even the bath mat slides on them. and you can see feet marks on them sometimes. i would go with flat, matte, or slight texture. your friend is very pretty too..
Suggestion - check out the tile at Lowe's and Home Depot, they have pretty good options.
I agree with all the orther comments - shiney is slippery, it only take a fine mist from a shower to make them like walking on wet ice. If this is going to be your forever home, something to think about when getting older and mobility issues, or older guests.
Buy a few samples, bring them home and live with them for awhile. Check them out in the space, different light, against the paint, etc. before your decide; they're a costly investment and not 😊easy to change. Must feel so good to have the painting almost completely done and getting to the fun stuff!
🎉Shopping for pretty things!
Lighting makes a big difference in colors. Day and night lighting changes colors too.
Things are moving along, paint looks great.
I live in Ottawa, Ontario Canada, and I hope you both are doing well
Look for a natural beauty with stone tiles. You might like it. But it might have to be sealed before you walk on it. I think it's beautiful and it's not a product that everyone has.
Shiny tiles are also slippery when wet. Be safe! Pick the Pink 🩷 for the upstairs. Go wild 😜
Get texture on floor, wet + shiny floors = broken bones and concussions. Advise from old RN. 😘
I’m an old RN and all my floors from front to back are smooth tile. Lived here for years , never fell down !
@@pamelawoodall5891 smooth does not necessarily mean high shine gloss or polished stone tiles. It has some surface texture to it but more sort of a semi gloss floor tiles. The high gloss slicky tiles are a no no for floors. Even hospital floors do not have high gloss tile floors in bathrooms.
Shiny is slippery
I think you can get super grip no slip shiny stuff these days
You have done a beautiful job. So happy for you!💖
I zLove Pink!!
I was wondering if you considered refinishing the original farmhouse wood floors. That could look beautiful, and would be very special. You could always use new wide wood to finish the new addition. Whether you furnish modern, contemporary, traditional, transitional, etc or farmhouse style, the original floors could look amazing. If they are beyond repair, new wood floors would also be beautiful, but slightly less special. Saving the original floors seems the way to go.
Ottawa, my home city. I hope you enjoy your trip and find what you are looking for.
When tile shopping, be sure to take a swatch of your paint and maybe find a swatch that matches the tub. The wall paint and tile may have an undertone that you don't really realize until you put it next to another neutral color.
you have officially reached the fun stage!
I'm so glad you said that if you got some pink, it would have to be something you can paint. 10 years of pink tile might wear on you... I bought an old house with pink tile and tub, toilet, got tired quickly!
Great job Abby!
Were you looking for ALL kinds of tile? Floor, wall, or countertop? If for floor, keep in mind you want something that will not end up being a slipping hazzard. Be very careful of wall tile, its durability, as far as cleaning and the use of certin cleaning chemicals. The most durable countertop material is quartz. It does not require constant routine sealing, is more resistant against scratching, will take high heat like hot pots or pans, and is not prone to staining like quartz, or marble. I've heard it said that quartz can have any scratches it may get polished away so it looks brand new. Bottom line, do your homework about the pros ad cons of different tile or stone material. P.S. keep in mind, poured concrete counter tops may be neat and cool to have, but you do have to seal it regularly. Good luck
Pale pink tiles are awesome- think you should do that with the micro cement
So so exciting
View out the back door is gorgeous. You can probably get azalea’s really cheap this time of year pop some in here and there at and inside the tree line… Beautiful.
Herringbone was the design of the small brownish tile you found. It is herringbone the design. I love that design.
Go for pink Abby!
The outlet had many beautiful choices imho
Can you get tile samples through the post so you can be sure of the colours going together? I would go a little bolder - bring some colour in.
Why does everything need to be white? Use some color somewhere.
She can use her accessories for color!! The girls loves white!!
And I don’t blame her to be honest!! ❤
Loved the video 😘👍🏻💕💕🙏🏻🙏🏻
No pink! Basic tones, beige, white or grey colors for the larger areas. Then "accent" the pink as much as you want!!
Those high glossy are really slippery when they are wet. Please do some research on this. Everything is looking great, so I'm happy for you many blessings and keep safe 🙏
Make sure they are non slip.
Looks so good
It may behoove you to go to a Home Depot or someplace where you can sit down with professionals to discuss your choices and current color options.
Starting to take shape finally. It's looking good! Cannot wait until it's all done.
I have the exact same toilet bowl cleaner - same color and everything from TJMaxx. You will love it in your bathroom.
Those shinny tiles are slippery. Lol, yeah my rule is to call the store first. Been there before. At least you had some fum.😊
be very careful on the floor tile choice because they can become EXTREMELY slick when wet, safetly first!
Looks beautiful
Marble is slicker than snot, scratches really easily & stains deeply. I loved mine on my entry but I would never put it in a bathroom or countertops. Porcelain looks a lot like other tile types including marble, is REALLY strong and I believe is much cheaper, BTW.
When we did a reno on our kitchen one of the thing`s I found out quickly was colour`s available were at the popular trend that year and the colour i wanted was coming in the next year so very little available when i looked. Good luck on your journey to find tile, you'll find something but it will be a search. Exciting you were in Canada and was wondering if the Ikea you were in was in my area and so close to me i am just down the road. I live in Nepean which is part of Ottawa.
love this
