- I am SO EXCITED... today we are building a board & batten wall with HIDDEN DOORS in one of the upstairs of my fixer upper house!! It came together so perfectly!!
Hey there! My name is Abby and I recently bought a MAJOR fixer upper house. I am SO excited to work on fixing it up this old house and turning it into my dream home. I can't wait to take you on this journey with me! I am planning to DIY as much as I can and learn so much about home renovations along the way. I am starting out totally clueless so I am sure it will be a grand adventure! The doors that are “hidden” are called gib or jib doors. You usually seem them in high-end homes or public spaces for staff to move freely behind the scenes. Very nice touch to your house!
Will you please get/make some saw horses? So much easier for both of you, especially Jay!
I would not paint them white I would stain them maybe the color that you stained the bathroom wood that you did in there I think that would pop and be better than having a wall looking like a wall.

13 years ago I had to envision my new kitchen….a new build to our home. That was hard enough! You’re doing something much harder with an older home…your dreams and visions are much harder than what I faced and I’m “tipping my hat off to you”! Believe I had it much easier…. If your bed is going to be in front of the wall, shouldn't the left hand closet door (as you're looking at it) batten board be on the other door? That way you can access that closet with at least one door.

You could even use a magnetic lock so the doors will feel like solid walls and keep a magnet under your bed to unlock it. 😊

Such a great idea- Love it! Suggestion- on the left door: if there is going to be a bed on that wall, make it so you can open the door closest to the WALL first so you can get into the storage without moving the bed. The way it is now, you have to open the right door first, THEN the left one near the wall. The door next to the window should work fine.
Wow. I like all your storage. You can keep things and not worry that your house looks cluttered. I live in a one bedroom apartment and I have five closets. It is great.

You may need to swap where you attached the strip on the door on the left, as you said you may put a bed so you will need it to open on left, same as right

I've built a few hinged bookcases for hidden rooms. That type of hinge is the way to go! It's always fun to see the expression on the customers face the first time this big book case swings open. Once again, great job, Sir!!!

Boredom battle boredom Baton aboard in Baton would be like the outside of your dad's burnt. Also, when you wanna do your nailheads and the scenes to make it look seamless. You should use plastic wood filler. Not caulking, the, caulking on the top is great because as the house expands and contracts it'll move, but on the door pieces and nail heads themselves should use plastic wood filler.

I have a space like that in my two upstairs bedrooms. One bedroom storage space is completely stuffed with Christmas decorations. Great idea to have two doors! I doubt you have shifting soil like I do in Texas or you might have sticking doors like I do at times…I truly know wonky!😅. Jay is so great to make your ideas work!

On the opposite wall you could recess a dresser to make it look builtin. It would make your room feel bigger.

You should cover the plasterboard cause long term dust and other issues. Love the idea of hidden storage space.
