A full length mirror! And a mini Chandelier for girl glam!
Fancy peg board for scarves
Yes to all of that👌
Yes! I just came on to write the very same thing about the mirror. It is so nice to come into a house, put the coat in the closet, and have a full-length mirror to check out how I look. It also might help make the closet feel larger.
Agreed ❤
Yes I was thinking scarf hooks on the left wall as they don’t take up too much room.
Ha! I just said the same thing! 🙌🏽
You should put a mirror on the chimney space
great idea!
Excellent idea!
Agreed
Jay you are a bloody legend ❤
Abby don’t worry about whether your new work for your house is interesting for viewers! We are very interested in what you and Jay are working on for these videos. This is your reality not ours. Good day to both you and Jay!
I agree 🥰
so do I😉
Me to it’s all interesting!
Like to watch U and Jay .l find these videos are interesting.😊tc
Agree 👍🏻
Jay you are the man. Abby tells you what she kinda wants. Then you can picture it in your mind and put it together. The closest looks fantastic.
How blessed you are to have Jay, I am so impressed by his total willingness to listen to your ideas! Even when you change your mind or ask questions. What a great man
I've watched every video on this house. But now it's so exciting to see the finishing touches being done ! All the work you have accomplished is amazing! Keep up the great work !
Abby your 150 year oldish house is looking like a home. If anyone complains about the lighting while you were in the coat closet look at the prisms coming through your beautiful front door glass. 🌈
For the narrow area in the hanging spot, if you got child sized hangers - and use them for scarves or snow pants.🤷♀️
and now you have a shelf to place a baggie of socks for guests to wear, so they won't wear their shoes in your new beautiful house.
Good job Abby Jay Team
I really like the way you did your shelves. Because if you change your mind, all you have to do is unscrew them in lower or raise them. The other closet, you tongue and groove them and they’re there to stay. This is a much better idea in my own little old opinion. Every time I watch you and Jay working I think of what a wonderful man he is and what a wonderful relationship you have with him and be with you you’re both blessed to have each other. May God keep it going together?
You are early today. I’m glad I hate waiting until 4:00pm. I can’t wait for y’all to start in the kitchen.
It's a place you will use daily.....very important that it makes you happy! Get a bright light..simple but lots of
"light".
Just a suggestion. The piece of wood that jets out as you enter your coat closet - you could place a couple of hooks on there to hang keys and such and it would look like you did it on purpose.
If you put a rod across that right cubby, going side to side a few inches under the longwise pole, you can hang 6 or 8 coats straight into that space. Then hang the rest on the long pole and let them slide up against the perpendicular hanging stuff. I LOVE the shelving-looks so good!!
I'm so happy that you're going to stain the wood; it already looks great, but it'll look even better stained 😃 Painting it would mask the beauty of Jay's wonderful craftsmanship and that would be sad.
You have motivated me to build shelving for food storage. I wasn’t sure I could make it look nice, but you both did such a good job with basic tools to build a beautiful closet.
Good luck with your Food storage shelves.😊
I'm in agreement about the mirror at the back on the chimney. I'm also loving the idea for a fancy little chandelier. Or a little vintage light fixture. Just something pretty, because you can have pretty everywhere in your home!
It’s amazing how well you and Jay work together. Love how you figure things on the fly and how Jay makes it happen.❤❤❤
An idea for the coat closet. The front facing wall of the chimney could easily be made to hold hats and scarves. Put pieces of wood, the same depth as the one side that is already up, on the other 3 sides. It creates a large framed area. Then put hooks on pieces of wood and attach them flat to the wall. Hang accessories or even pictures to add some additional flair to the closet. I love how you design it perfectly. 👍👍
I suggest you put trim board vertically on the right of the chimney to match the left. It will help it will look balanced.
Then add the mirror for a finished look...
Great job Abby Jay
God bless you both 🙏 ❤️🙏❤️
Good! We will stop worrying about Jay getting up and down and sawing on the floor!!
Can also have a spot for winter scarves, mittens or gloves also in the shelves close to door! Keep on doing your thing with Jay and allow us to go along for the ride and enjoy watching your incredible journey!😍😁
Abby, You may consider some peg type coat holder on that blank wall. there is always a reason for more hooks. Yard clothes, dog leashes, ball caps (could go high and do two row for hats) if you can think it there is a reason for more hooks (pegs). Looking great!
Abby you are so darn pretty, and Jay has the patience of Jobe when he's working with you.😊
A full length mirror would look perfect in the closet over fireplace jet out.
Abby and Jay you are a great team, always looking out for what Abby wants.A gentleman to work with.🥰
Hooks for hats, on Opposite wall from the hanging side. Hooks directly in front. Love hooks!! Scarf and glove basket too.
Looking simply fabulous !!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Put a floor length mirror on the wall so you can check yourself before you go out
That was my first thought too!
Jay, I like your good sense of humor. When you looked at the camera, so you know, that was good.
Using every little space in a small space is smart.
We are here for you and your journey with your beautiful home that you are filling with love and family a old house becomes a happy home once again.
I have really enjoyed your last few videos because you and Jay are giving me great ideas for my own space. Keep this type of video coming!❤️❤️❤️❤️🇨🇦🇨🇦
Abby and Jay, I'm so amazed at what you made of this narrow closet! Beautiful 😍 It's thrilling to hear that some of your closet woodworking will be stained. Sych a shame to cover these woodcraft projects. I can't wait to see the pantry. This custom work is very pricey in the open market. You're a lucky ducky that you have Jay. 😊
And a Dad who has a Sawmill. That's very rare nowadays. Wow, look at the money he saved her. But that's what good Dad's, do for their children. Wonder if Abby's Dad was raised Amish?? He has there accent, uses the big work horses instead of farm equipment. Just wonder that, I need to follow his u tube. channel.
Thank you for restoring this beautiful old house. There have been so many just torn down, Makes me sad. Show us more of the old stone walls and the brook running through your property when you have time.
what a treasure you have in Jay. A real Dream maker!
Everything is coming together and looks awesome! Maybe put a pegboard feature or a full length mirror on that awkward chimney wall?!
Do you think you would have done this without Jay? He seems like your own Norm from This Old House. Love that you think through all the storage and future planning without a designer, architect, BRAVO! It has been so fun to watch your progress. Take equal time to furnish as you did to revive this old house...
Lol! When the purse fits instead of the shoe!!! 😂
For sure, your natural wood accents should all be stained and varnished for preservation. It looks amazing and the stained wood will create a very nice contrast in the decor. Do a test board and see what you love - another episode idea. Cheers Abby and Jay! So nice...
Just love watching you and Jay working together..The house is progressing so fast, the closet is super nice.❤❤❤
Your coat closet looks amazing and I think that a little mirror that takes up that little space in the middle wall would look amazing
This was very interesting….the whole project has been interesting. Jay is a great , patient teacher. I look forward to every video. - watching from Lake Wales, Florida
I'm really enjoying these build out videos. I love how you're customizing each space for your needs. I'm pausing and showing my husband all your great ideas. And a mirror on the wall covering the chimney could be handy.
Y'all are doing great!!
You could put some decorative hooks on the chimney wall to hang purses on.
Abby, that closet would make a real nice tool closet? What do you think, Jay? 😂😂
ABBY, I thought you guys would work on your front porch and siding while the weather is so nice befor it gets hot. And we all enjoy all of your different projects ,so fun watching. love you. Deb
All these custom cabinets and closets are amazing! Had you hired that out it would have cost you thousands!!!!! Go team!!!
I love that coat closet! Every shelf for a purpose, like our little mud room!
Abby I love what your doing so far. I hope you keep and restore the old wooden floors.
I enjoy the closet & laundry room project.
It’s so much fun watching you & Jay create the space.
👏 Bravo… everything is looking so good.😊
Agreeing with those suggesting a mirror on the chimney. Easy, quick look-over (if the thicker coats won't block the view. :-)
Looks GREAT, Abby!!! 🥰🎶🌻📚🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Love how the shelf support will semi-hide the hanging stuff. Reduces the visual clutter and really tidies it up!
The closet looks so good. On the chimney you could hang a mirror or hooks for hats and scarves and things like that.
You most definitely need a mirror on the chimney box. Don’t skimp out on the light get a pretty one. I think you should also paint the shelves with a fun pastel or bright color in the closets!
I have some large coated S hooks I use to hang random things like duffle bags or scarves. That could be an alternative option for that back corner.
I wonder if hooks on the chimney wall would make the closet look cluttered. Right now you have straight, clean interesting lines. I think it’s visually pleasing. 👍
I love seeing all these details going in! I can’t wait for the finishing touches.
You have done a great job utilizing the coat closet space. I love that you put so much thought into each room. Well done!😊
The closet looks really nice. Jay is so talented at making your ideas come through perfectly.
Good job Jay and Abby! ❤
Why spend money on those expensive closet systems when you can custom design your own! Nice job Abby and Jay! May I make a suggestion - the wall between the closet bar and the shelves on the left would be a great place to put some hooks for hanging scarfs, purses a dog leash etc.
Another nook done!! Yeayyy! It looks so good. Thanks for sharing! 💕
On the other wall you could put a decorative board with coat hooks for scarves and hays. 😊😊 I do like the idea of a mirror on the back wall & a pretty light fixture.
Yes! Quarter round will soften……and “It’s all DOWNHILL FROM HERE!” 🤣😅Looks amazing. I’m guessing you will be putting brooms/ mops/ vacuum cleaner/ hand vacuum in pantry?
Hi Abby we love watching your videos and the amazing work you’re doing on the house, can’t wait to see it all finished.
You could always do a full sheet of plywood on that column so that it would be level with the shelves and then you can put hooks anywhere you want on it for hanging things
I would definitely keep your stains the same throught the house. This looks great guys!!!
Abby you will be able to build your own shed you have learned so much from Jay. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I think a mirror would look good there or hooks for beanies or scarf's.... Your videos are very interesting and I enjoy them so much, seeing the hard work that you & Jay put into every detail just makes my day. Thanks for sharing Abby
I would put a strip on otherside to balance it off, and boards across for hooks, and a miroor on inside of door. Looks awesome
I agree, a mirror on the chimney wall would be great.
Abby I couldn't envision the closets when you were describing what you wanted but it makes sense now seeing them complete. The finishing touches added to shelf fronts really pull it all together. What's next? The pantry?👍
When going to the hardware store and asking for "stuff" does staff instinctively know what you want? Of course they do. 👍👍👍
Love your 2 braids. Gives me Wizard of Oz flashes
I smiled when I saw you had a hanger to use as a reference!
Abby, I think your doing a wonderful job on your own home. Just think of everything you've learned. Congratulations.
Wooden hangers come in all kinds of widths....get some of them maybe 12 inch wide for the coats. Those velvet hangers are for dresses, blouses, tee shirts, etc. and will break easily with heavy items. Thought that might help.
the closest turned out really pretty...your home is looking awesome
Excellent job on your coat closet! You and Jay make a great team!
Your and your family are doing it girl! Your dad can go to town with the help he gives. A big shout out to him. He looks more healthy and happy since he's been doing this with you. Congrats girl. Your getting there fast now lol. I love it, it's beautiful :))
You can also put some hanging pegs up in there for coats or a shelf with hooks.
you need another board on the other side of the chimney to match, and a molding along it like the other side! Looking Great!!
If you put dowels there (off the facing board you had to add) could hang your scarves on the front of your chimney, would add a pop of color
I was concerned when you explained how you wanted the closet, but it turned out great! And I agree with others, put a full length mirror in the chimney wall. And you can put board games on your shelfs too. lol..
Abby, you can find a heavy duty plastic zippered clothing wardrobe for that awkward corner to store out-of-season clothing. The vintage ones allowed hooks to turn so the zippered opening could face any direction when hanging. Modern ones may not have that feature but perhaps worth taking a look.
You could even put baskets on some of the shelves for gloves, scarves and hats
You could put some eye hooks on that little piece of wood sticking out vertically for scarves etc!!
You might consider a full length beveled mirror on the chimney. Could be neat. :)
Looking good! More great teamwork!
Wow Girl I am so proud of you and all of your growth. I love that your vision is coming to life right before our eyes.
Idea for you glue mirror to the chimney in the coat closet just in case you need to check yours of before leaving.
Add a long framed mirror in the closet on that chimney wall.
Can you use children's hangers in that little back portion? And you can also use wall hooks next to the little shelves for scarves, purses, umbrellas, etc.
Hang a clear pocket shoe organizer on the chimney wall for gloves and hats and other outerwear stuff.
It looks good! Suggestion - I'd put the same trim piece on the other side of that column, just to balance it out. In between the trim you could hang a few small pictures. On the long wall, left side, I'd hang a horizontal board with hooks for quick hanging of a few items. Yes ...this is a nice closet!
Can't believe Jay doesn't want saw horses.
Loving the wood shelves looks very sturdy love that your staining the wood it's a butiful closet ❤
put another piece of molding on the other side with quarter round would finish it off fantastic.😊
A full length mirror right there on the chimney jet out..would be neat.
Such a lovely thoughtfully designed house. It will be so cosy.
It's inside a closet I don't think you need to worry about adding a trim piece at all. But you should think about some hooks on one of the walls where you can hang your keys. Very handy inside the front door there.
