4 things I wish I had done with my camper/overland truck (shown on my 2014 Ford Raptor)

- These are 4 things that I didn't consider all that much when I did this build and they kind of came back to bite me in the butt. Depending on what your use is, you will probably benefit from paying attention to these points.
I'd really appreciate a like and subscribe if you liked the video! Put any recommendations or suggestions down below! I love hearing everyone's thoughts.

I mentioned my mattress that I used in the video. I do want to just touch quickly on that. I have a queen size and it fits almost perfectly width wise but is too long for my bed on my truck which is why I have to have the one side propped up. It is extremely comfortable with 4 inches of foam and then toped with 2 inches of memory foam. It is honestly about as comfortable as my home mattress lol.
I will drop my amazon affiliate link down below. The product and price is exactly the same whether you use my link or not but it really helps out the channel! I appreciate the support.

I've got a 2012 Roush phase 2 supercharged Raptor with 37" Nitto Ridge Grappler tires and the power is amazing! You will suffer a little on the gas mileage compared to where you're at now. 590 horses eat a lot of hay if you know what I mean.
oh no way, thats a badass truck! That is exactly what I want to do. The gas mileage is already terrible lol its a lost cause. Did you do the supercharger install?
Drenalin Adventures. Check out his F-150. He has it decked out for outdoors.
hey brother! i just got my first pickup and was looking to put a cap on it. any suggestions on brand as far as what you think was the best you've seen and what made you choose yours? also i think you could remove that thick mattress for an air mattress called mountain engineering jet stream foam and it's about an inch thick or less. you unscrew brass fittings to let air flow in and then tighten to seal it and keep mattress firm and comfy. you can use the reverse process to roll it up for carrying and storage. great for camping and super lightweight and cheap too. that will free up some headroom. have you ever seen the inside of a diesel engine just after one year...the soot buildup in these new turbo diesels is incredible. A lot of maintenance on the diesels and possible failures on the road. i think the raptor is definitely more for rocks and speed but a super duty truck, gasoline engine, the transmission is built for hauling and towing so you will definitely have plenty of power and clean power. throw on some highway tires too because with 4 wheel and diff lock you can really go just about anywhere off road too. the rugged off-road tires are very much about the look for most unless you're doing some serious mud, rock and snow climbs. you should get better fuel mileage and much more comfortable ride on the roads. even a all-terrain should prove well in any situation. i like continentals over all but brigstones are the best for snow handling. also keep in mind the super duties now in some states are considered commercial vehicles so check that out before purchasing or reregister as private, thats the loophole ;)
I’ve been wanting to do the same (with my 13… turn it into more of an overlander with a top. But u made a hell of a point at the end where u basically admit the Raptor isn’t the right set up for overlanding. Am I right I’m assuming that?
It’s honestly not the best truck for the job but if you already have one and want to get into then it’s at least a great start. I honestly love the raptor though so I really don’t regret it. If you had all the money in the world then you’d make a badass Baja runner out of the raptor and get some big diesel heavy duty truck with a big bed and big cap.
@@mikey201292 why is it not the best truck for the job (aside from u mentioned in ur videos)
@@citizenpark2782 mostly just because of what I outlined in the video. The raptor was designed more for speedy Baja racing than over landing. It does the job quite fine and I will continue to use mine for over landing in the years to come but I just think there are probably better options. It also depends where in the world you live. If you are often running into more snow or mud then having a front diff lock would be awesome to have. I’m just being nit picky haha. In all reality it is an awesome truck and I’m looking forward to the alleged raptor R that is supposed to be coming out soon.
@@mikey201292 👍 talked to my friends at Ford of Montebello, CA. Unfortunately the R won’t be available for sale until 2023. And it MAY be fitted with a Cobra engine. You and I will have to wait and see 😎
@@mikey201292 Specific to overlanding, do you think a topper was worth it? I keep hearing it’s a waste of money and space should one want to take it off. I thought it would be perfect for overlanding based on the extra space (for anything).
Have you thought of doing a 2021 f-150 with the 6 1/2 bed and the powerboost engine? Should be plenty of power, good mileage and the onboard generator. That’s what I’ve been thinking for my build. Curious of your thoughts
Honestly that would be an amazing setup. I haven't tried that engine but I'm sure that would handle everything very nicely and like you said get great mileage. That generator in the bed would be a game changer too. Definitely keep me updated if you go ahead with that as I'm really interested to hear people's thoughts on the new f150. That lie flat front seat and the center console that turns into a desk are epic too.
I'm thinking about finding a used diesel super duty to save some money lol especially because I might get that Raptor R thats supposed to come out next year. As you can see, I have lots of ideas haha.
@@mikey201292 I actually been in the process of buying a Truck that I can also use vor Overlanding. I also thought about getting the F150 with Hybrid Engine but
1) the availability/ production time is crazy, some people ordered 8 months ago and they"re still waiting.
2) I could"t find any good Ford Dealer that was able to answer my questions or giving me a good customer Service. They all wanted to sell me the car after 10min of talking.
3) Some of the new stuff that the F150 has is only available in the higher "lines", so it makes it even more expensive.
Since the Marked for used cars is crazy, I will order a new RAM Rebel. The bed is just 5.7 but i will find a way to make it work. btw I am also located in PA :)
