I've watched a handful of these GXV tours and this one is the most professionally put together review and tour of them all. Well done, very thorough especially not just pointing at a feature but actually showing us how it works or operates. You provide a very thorough perspective and scope of the product and how it works. Thankyou for the best edited and put together video.
I agree. Very nice, efficient, straightforward delivery. Excellent camera work, too. Strangely, it seems like most other RV and boat reviewers just keep the camera pointed at the floor the whole time.
Another very excellent review Russo’s !!! My wife and I were very fortunate to check this rig out at the Overland. It’s more impressive live and in person that is for sure. We were especially grateful to met you both and get Joe to be the group photographer. An outstanding job Joe. Thank you both for being so gracious to my wife and I
I find this comparatively better than an Earthroamer. It is utility first, looks comfy and powerful enough to traverse any terrain you cast at it... and the pricing is on point.
Quite a rig. I got to see it today at Overland Expo West. And got to meet you in person. Thank you Joe for watching Kyrie while Kate showed me the interior. And thank you Kate. It was great to meet you.
It's still cheaper than an EarthRoamer. I like the truck. The built in camper has a lot of nice featurs but I would prefer everything run off of Diesel. You get up north even in the summer and it's the better choice. Plus there just always seems to be issues with solar. No real issues with fuel. I could see this as a great rig in the South West or South. My opinon.. It's still 1.5 Kidneys away from my budget. Will have to stick to my truck camper combo. The advantage being I can drive out from under it when/if the Truck needs servicing. Cool Video.
Looks like they made some updates to the bath from the original spec model you reviewed. Probably the most spacious bath in this style of overlander I've seen yet. Looks great!
Awesome video! Love the tour of the GXV Hilt. I would love to take it to Alaska and especially the Dalton Highway! Would be kind of interesting. Thanks for your videos!
Earthroamer I think is just shy of $600k, Rossmonster makes something as well on GMC/Chevy/Ram/Ford or you can buy a 550/5500 put a flatbed, a truck camper and storage boxes. Very nice rig and you definitely can go almost anywhere in it. The solar panels, the extra fuel capacity and onboard air are wonderful - I would travel Canada and Alaska without any cares!
I see this at about $500,000 out the door, and it's a beauty, but a GMC 3500HD with an 8 foot bed and an Alaskan pop up camper at $130,000 out the door and there's no debate. $370,000 will take me to a lot of places and my GMC with AWD has advantages on snotty roads over a 2 speed transfer case.. Also, apparently now it's hard to get work done with long wait times. I can detach my camper to get it fixed and still run around. I can use that $370,000 I saved on a hotel. Nice review like always!
Glad to see you posting on TH-cam! I know a lot of folks are coming here because they know your history of vanlife and they are familiar with the STO line of Mode vans. One thing that would be useful to see is if you could show some places you took the Hilt that would be too challenging for a Sprinter van. I know we can conceptualize it, but it’d be great to actually see the terrain only the Hilt could traverse.
Thanks! Looking forward to your next release. I figured it is hard to balance showing off a $450k off-road vehicle and simultaneously NOT damaging a $450k off-road vehicle. 😎
You are lucky if you bought your house since 2020. That is 23% the value of my house, but more than what my Grandpa built the original house for in the 1950’s.
WOW, this is like “The Beauty and the Beast”, both rolled up into one vehicle…me likey very much! This interior is totally on point, and def reps “The Beauty” part of this behemoth! Cheers as always to you two 🍻👏🏼👍🏼🤩
Very nice, very BIG, very expensive. If you are staying off grid in a remote area, you are definitely limited by the cassette toilet. Surprised they didn’t put a black tank. It was fun to see the tour.
What an amazing unit!! I loved your walkthrough. The windows in the dinette are wonderful. I am looking forward to future videos which show you and Kate in action with it. Thanks!
Definitely want to know more about this truck ! RPM at highway speeds, towing capacity any way to add fuel capacity or larger fridge for longer trips. Half the price of an Earthroamer & Cummins powered !
Impressive rig but given the scratches on the side and top of my Sprinter I'm going to guess this thing won't go where my Sprinter goes. Offroad capability is one thing but no amount of power or grip is going to fit you through tight spaces. I think Sprinter is about the best balance between creature comforts and ability to get to interesting places.
Anything for extended “off grid” camping you really need to have some outdoor hobbies you love like motor sports, mountain biking, hunting, fishing or something that makes sense for off grid camping or staying in one spot for days gets boring really fast.
25K and I'll take two. Should cost only 15K to build. So, two would mean 20K profit. 20K is enough for a middle class family of 4 to live for 5 years. I blame Biden for this ridiculous inflation. We're all "standing by" President Trump.
@@dviv11 people who buy these rigs own more than one house and one of them is a mansion and another a house boat. This would be one of their toys to show off.
Your house doesn't park by the grand canyon does it? yeah, it's expensive but it has a multi purpose. a house just sits there and collects things and termites.
While I will never be able to afford this- it's simply beautiful. I'd name him Chopper, kinda reminds me of a shark. I do want the cup with the logo on it😊
We just spent 2 weeks near Flagstaff. We noticed one bizarre "camper" parked off the road. Then I open this . We assumed it was you headed to Flag. Looks will thought out.
Well Done! Love this review. What a beast the Hilt is and a great choice from something like an EarthRoamer. It has just about everything I would be looking for. Any chance the Rossmonster is on your radar? I would love to hear your thoughts on the Rossmonster and a comparison between the two.
This thing has been rotating through the different TH-cam channels. I think I like your walk-through the most!! Well done. I was in the market for something like this earlier this year after having built my own expedition vehicle and I put all the learnings and mistakes from my own rig into the new one (taking delivery late September. With the Hilt I am surprised about the large gap between the cab of the truck and over the cab area of the Hilt. Center of gravity and height really become an issue when you go offroad. I am guessing, but there is at least 2 inches if not more of wasted height. I get it, interior height for the rest of the Hilt, but who really needs 6' 7"? I went with a different manufacturer as I also wanted to stay with a Ford. Anything that comes from Chrysler/Stelantis - I am not touching with a pole. Been burnt too many times when it comes to reliability. Other than that - well designed and good looking rig.
Lots to love, but why a cassette toilet? It would be better if it had a black tank, or maybe a gray / black combined tank. Also wondering about the highway gas mileage. With a diesel engine I thought it would get better than 10 MPG. Still, I’d love to have an RV which was competent on moderately challenging dirt roads.
@@Weretherussos Thanks for that. I have been lusting for a dirt-road RV for decades, and unless I win the lottery I don’t see an earth roamer in my future. I’m most interested in highway MPG, because usually we’ve got to do a fair amount of driving to get to the dirt roads we want to explore. We’ve got a 23 foot travel trailer, pulled by a gasoline Expedition, and our highway MPG is just 10.5, but we’re coming in a lot less than 20K pounds. If you ever measure just highway MPG please post it.
I wanna have FLIR camera on all sides. An emergency silent generator just in case of emergency. Back camera exclusively connected to the rear view mirror in the cab. Small clothes washer outside. An A/C blower for the rear- passengers in the cab. An air-ionizer all over located on key areas. One camera on the roof located in the rear to monitor the SOLAR CELLS and clearance of ceiling to bridge. How does this expeditionary vehicle perform in very cold places like in Alaska. What about in very hot places like the ATACAMA DESERT ?
I wouldn’t be able to sleep in the overhead bead because I have what’s called achalasia and I get sick a lot so I have to sleep at a 45° angle sitting up almost and it doesn’t have the headroom in it for that truck sliding camper does though I wish it was taller up by the head area, cause I wouldn’t wanna sleep in the kitchen area every night but I love the truck
