    Hi, I am an INTP and I am living my dream job. I am a personal assistant and the manager of five different sectors where I work. Every day is full of challenges, and I enjoy it. I set up systems to make our business flow better and solve problems. I work with data and putting it together for feedback reports. I do not interact with many people, and this suits me well.
    Beyond work my passion is content creation with gaming! I find content creation rejuvenating and relaxing.

    INTP here, and speak just as slow, if not slower - but i only realized this from recordings, though in the moment it feels normal pace.
    Currently unemployed (again), because I got bored. Now I'm looking for something in the range of 'tech artist' or 'design engineer'. Hopefully I'll get a job soon - you know for stuff like food and internet.. Getting a job isn't easy when you actively avoid interviews - I hate having to explain to prospective employers why have never finished anything, or why I get bored when the position has no more room for growth/learning left..
    In the past I worked as:
    - Sound & Lignting Engineer (or technician)
    - 3D modeller / CAD Draughtsman
    - Software Developer
    The last project I actually ever finished (more than 15 years ago) was high school. I tried to study many things at university but they never held my interest long enough to pass the first year. Basically all skills/knowledge I have today is self taught.
    Main other interests: Architecture, Aviation, Electronics, Systems, Automation, Optimization, Photography, Design. There are about 100 more interests, but these are closer to the top of the list.

      Wow that’s what I’m dealing with now lol. I’m working at a tool store as a logistics associate, but now I’m bored with it and tired of going to work. Always going from job to job because I’m not satisfied with that being my life every day.
      And I just thought today, “The only thing I’ve really accomplished was graduating high school” 🤦🏾‍♀️

    As an INTP, I went from IT support hardware/software out of high school, to every facet of pest control from wildlife to tree diseases (because I was mostly alone while working and I found answers on my own as well), to 3d space CAD modeling which allows me the ability to look a problem, make the part / product better, and add my own creative touch. Wish me luck on the newest venture lol.

    Some technical careers can be obnoxious, I think. Like, programming and computer science in general requires technical learning, in that the trajectory of learning is a linear one, unlike learning about the humanities. I don't know if it's true for every INTP, but I found this obnoxious because you can't go a route less-traveled with technical information, requiring you to follow rules and respect them in ways you might not want to.
    Granted, after studying computer science and math taught me to appreciate rules, structure and standards - they're very useful in communication of, and collaboration with complex information. The downside is that if you don't absolutely love what you're doing technical information can hinder your growth, as complexity of information increases, so does the requirement for rule following. You can always push through, but it gets exhausting and requires more consideration of health habits.
    There were times where I wondered if I should have gone into philosophy or psychology because they're less strict in how you learn about them (maybe not so true for philosophy, knowing what I know now). But, the career choices for those fields are better for other types of INTPs - like those with IS or IA holland type codes. For me I think I made the right choice because, besides playing video games, programming is something that engages me in a way that causes 12 hours to go by in the blink of an eye. Neither philosophy, nor psychology has ever captivated me in the same way.
    Ultimately, the best bet seems to be applying what you're naturally good at in a field you're passionate about. Your suggestions here are definitely in the right direction for many INTPs.

      Fellow INTP here and 41. Thanks so much for sharing. I am thinking about starting a casual (or intense if I enjoy it) learning path in IT & programming for what's next for my career path, which I currently know nothing about. I like black & white / more logical (Ti) learning paths such as math and science, but also love the connections (Ne) and creativity needed to advance in physics. I got an honours degree in landscape architecture but I'm really not feeling it much now. People want their gardens done at my beginner level and I just want to heal and problem solve problems between ecology and human development and design permaculture landscapes and couldn't care less about manicured gardens. Whatever. Maybe I just need to grow up and get over having to talk to other humans. I have 4 kids, doing administration/bookwork part time from home for years. Either way IT is much more flexible and intriguing to me as a new learning path, and makes better money too, so my impression is that I'd get to work less hopefully (part-time possibly?) and still spend time learning various other things of interest. Did you experience this? Have you switched career paths a few times? Maybe in the future I could program something to help advance and aid the permaculture design field. I do, like you, also really enjoy philosophy and psychology (as hobby learning), but can't presently see myself doing anything like that for a living long term. Any tips on where to start in the IT field and how to do so relatively quickly and cheaply hopefully? No pressure....if not no worries. Someone sent me a link to a free youtube channel that they said is good learning to start, so I might start there :)

    • @ProbablePaul
      @ProbablePaul 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@CricketRodeo You already have an education curated to pursue your passion. Why not increase the complexity of your landscaping projects by joining some big firm that works on projects that interest you?
      You might want to read more about these fields because compared to your current career, you're likely to find them: more sterile and less creative; have longer hours; be indoors all day; deal with as many people as you do now; and have as many, if not more, menial tasks to deal with than you do designing basic gardens.
      Without a degree, though, you could try starting in IT as technical support, or getting your A+ certification and trying to get an entry level help desk job - I don't know a whole lot about IT. For programming, you could do a boot camp, but I would recommend coding some to learn the fundamentals before jumping into that. A lot of people find boot camps to be too much without any prior experience. Unfortunately, I don't think any approach will be quick nor cheap.
      On the other hand, I've read there are some entry level positions with training on the job in cybersecurity at places like IBM. Granted, I haven't looked into them myself, I've just read about them. You might need to work on your social engineering, though.

      @CricketRodeo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ProbablePaul Wow thanks so much for taking the time to give me all of that advice. You made very good points and you're totally right. I need to research this field more. It's difficult to figure out what to pursue without really having a passion for any career path and while out of touch with what I really want/like (Fi 8th slot). I will definitely save and thoughtfully consider your advice before going ahead!

      @ProbablePaul 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CricketRodeo You should probably retest yourself. You really sound like an S type. Also, Fi would have little to do with what you want out of life. You should probably read more about personality types, too, if you want the cognitive functions to help guide you. But, take luck.

    I think an INTP could excel as a consultant in nearly any field if it's of significant interest. Many of the trades or artisanal crafts may suit the manually inclined. Another good one I haven't heard suggested in lists like this are library science roles, which are useful in businesses fields as well as the educational sphere.

    As an INTP , i suffer a lot every day during studying at the univ because my major is teacher of english and spanish. i'm so obsessed with languages, i like to learn new things and rules and sit working with the grammar rules but i hate interacting with people a lot. And i often have to give classes as a practice and imitate the hapiness and interest during those classes. it makes me feel so unhappy and my teachers always accuse me of not showing enough emotions.... so now i try to concentrate on IT sphere , i want to be a game developer and after graduating from the university i will forget about all these nightmares that i had to pass through during my studying for being a teacher.....

      I barely managed to graduate. Also, fun fact: Einstein is a high school dropout, and he couldn't get into college cause he failed the exam (in the literary and history department). That gives me solace that I may not be dumb but just bored with how they were taught cause I loved math when it was taught right, or when I taught myself but flew over my head when they were so...ugh in teaching. Only 1 teacher in my entire school life taught math well.

    As an INTP i can't keep one job, I get too bored easily, I changed fields from medicine to design, now im at programming, video editor, case management, EHS, Seller and more but I'm still not happy and I can't find a job for me, everything become too repetitive, for example medicine is full of "different topics and fields" but for me all this "different topics" are the same and looks repetitive to me, i learn nothing new even when is a new field because everything is too similar and related to medicine, the same happened to me with programming and with others fields i tried, now i think I hace no hope and i will ve an homeless 🤣🤣🤣

      This is me right now, I am currently working as a healthcare professional.. I was excited at the beginning, to be honest, but now I realize that it's not for me, the amount of people interaction is draining me (patients, nurses, doctors), and not only that but it is repetitive, boring, and no area for developing my innovation and critical thinking skills, I only need to follow commands, protocols, and policies which I hate so I took an online course related to design to see if I would like it, yes I liked it, but no I do not see myself doing that as well. I'm so confused at this point of my life because I love to do so many things but not for a long period .. I love changing and experiencing new things from time to time .. I feel like I'm lost and I do not know what to do rn, I keep looking at research, psychology, forensic science, physics, UI/UX design, and freelancing .. but I am afraid that I will hate it just like the medical field.. unfortunately, all my family recognize that I am lost and I don't know what to do in my life.. I would appreciate it if you or someone could give me an advice ☹☹

      I was depressed too in college, because I felt forced to study when I didn't have a clue what I wanted to do. Dropping out was the best and worst decision I've made. It was the worst, because job opportunities are reduced, but it was the best because I've spent a lot of time figuring out what I genuinely like. For example, I work best when tasks are framed as a project. College is difficult in part because it's a long term sustained series of random classes that make it feel like busy work.
