For anyone watching and thinking of painting cabinets, I found out recently there is such a thing as cabinet paint. It is thicker than normal wall paint, has more "grip", and so it will not drip down vertical surfaces. It is expensive, but I have found it is well worth it for my project. It also helps better disguise how crummy my old cabinets are as dings and such don't show as much now. Very pretty "after" I have to say. An old pro painter technique is when you want to use a larger brush, but in a cramped area, you can first take a hacksaw to the paintbrush handle to cut it down. If you see any older professional painters workrooms, you may find paintbrushes with oddly short handles. This is why.
I actually painted a powder room vanity with cheap Waverly paint from Walmart. I did it as a quick fix, as my intention was to replace the vanity, but 4 years later it still looks great. Has not required any touch up! I did wax it after the paint dried, with Waverly wax. For about $10, it completely transformed the powder room. Chalked paint is amazing!!
This video was just what I needed! I'm redoing my bathrooms and painting the vanities. I've always added Floetrol to my paint, which is self leveling. It really makes a difference! Thank you for your help!❤😊❤
As you were removing the doors I kept saying out loud “mark them”!!! 😂😂. Even though there were only 2 it’s important to mark them. Serena, I love the color you selected.
This turned out beautiful. I do like both beyond paint and Annie Sloan for furniture pieces. I love projects like this it just makes your home look so updated for little cost. Thank you for sharing your tips on the edges of the cabinet it really makes a difference. I just did a old dresser and I did sand the top a little because I wanted a smooth finish but it's really not needed. Can't wait to see more. Have a blessed weekend. 🙏🌴
Right?! Just a few hours and you literally can change the whole look and feel of a place! Makes me want to paint my son's vanity this Midnight Blue, too!
I love this video for the detailed tips. Thank for showing and explaining why you’re doing it. Next time I’m a homeowner, I will be doing this to save $$$
For that dead space between the wall and vanity you can buy those roller shelfs that pull like a drawer, usually used in kitckens between a counter top and fridge to store bottles and such, and have extra storage ! that green color is divine!! I wanna do my kitchen cabinets in that color, so timeless and elegant
You know what? I love the wooden knobs with this color! :) Actually, this is my favorite kind of blue. Last year I painted an old but not antique dressing table the same color (but with a glossy finish) and we love it so much! I had tons of energy lately and have done a lot of projects in our apartment like painting the kitchen cabinets, a corner cabinet, and reupholstering things. I think it is called nesting instinct. :)
I agree with you! Those wooden knobs worked! I was surprised. And that blue is so pretty I'm going to use it for a dresser makeover I've been itching to start, too. It's a great blue, isn't it? I can see why you love it. You've got the creative bug lately. Enjoy it! I feel like I'm getting my mojo back, too. Lol
The blue is soooo nice! I want to do something in my own house this color. I think I may have just a bit of one jar. If you ordered the same size, you would have a lot left from that one jar for a project this size, with 2 coats.
Sorry, I should have added that I didn't have much time to let the paint completely dry, and I worried that by turning them over too early, the brown paper would rub off on them. So hanging then was easier to paint the fronts to protect them. It was all about timing, for me.

That one cabinet paint at Home Depot is $60 which is crazy

That's a good tip! Does Walmart still sell Waverly paint? Thanks for sharing, so people know that cheaper paint can still work and hold up! ❤️
So glad you shared this. An inexpensive way to upgrade a cabinet & save $. Great tips.

WHAT A DIFFERENCE!! Wow - beautiful bold color. Looks fantastic!
Thank you!!

Have you tried a short handle paint brush? They're easier to get it too small spaces and I find I have more control than with a long handle.
Thanks so much for the information..❤
Hi Serena , funny i'm working on the same thing . Hope mines look good as yours
That blue is so dreamy! How much of the can/how many cans did you use for this 2 coat project?

Next time, you can use Legos to put the doors on while you paint the front or they have these pointy things that you can use to sit them on and dry.
I miss your videos.
Aww, no worries, I am back in full-force!! 🥰
🥰😍🤩
Why hang the doors to do the fronts? Why not just do all the painting on the floor?
Sorry, I should have added that I didn't have much time to let the paint completely dry, and I worried that by turning them over too early, the brown paper would rub off on them. So hanging then was easier to paint the fronts to protect them. It was all about timing, for me.
