    When painting tile the glaze should be fully removed/sanded or scuffed, then 2 coats of moisture resistant primer and the top color coat should be an epoxy product as it offers both , a high degree of moisture resistance and a strong, almost chip proof finish.

      That's great, can you sand the tiles with the a light grid paper &sander or what do you suggestion?

    I'm preparing to try this myself! A couple of questions...1) I'm doing this in a one bathroom house so it will get a LOT of use. Do you feel that using some sort of sealant would protect the finish more? 2) I'm considering using a stencil on the shower tiles as well, would you use an oil based enamel for that 2nd color paint as well?

  • @gumpforrest6877
    @gumpforrest6877 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      Before any type of sanding, clean super well with general cleaner and then with a solvent (lacquer thinner or denatured alcohol) that won't leave a residue.

Read the description. Says you can use it on ceramic tile. Not sure how well it blocks house hold products...but being its made for floors...it's probably decent...and its sold in quart. I used some of the Rust-Oleum top coat matte finish on my first shower....being that it's a water based topcoat...it's not gonna hurt anything. Mine turned out fine with no additional sheen.

    What kind of tile was it originally? I have tiles that feel like stone (granite maybe?). Curious to see if this technique would work here.

    Can you tell me how long you have to wait for it to dry/cure fully before usuing the shower? I want to do this on my tiles but I only have one bath and can't image not being able shower for several days 😞

    • @a_m_b_o
      @a_m_b_o  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s tough, I’d say at least 48 hours though! It depends on your climate, humidity etc. ☹️

    • @a_m_b_o
      @a_m_b_o  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t think so 😞 but haven’t tried it. We used the specific tub paint on the tub. My worry would be prolonged water exposure when the tub is filled and also it’s a lot more “traffic” on the tub floor
