Yes, they won the Constructors Championship in 1987 and again and again. But NO, they didn't win the Driver's Championship in 1990 and 1992, Carlos Sainz with the Celica did. Still one of my fav cars of all times.
@@CarlosLopez-yx2oi yes... but championship for manufactures was the primary tarhet for Lancia and Cesare Fiorio... in 1983 they won title at SAnremo Rally and didn't go to Rac with Alen or Rohrl.... however, Sainz was great!
Off course.. they stopped for race and for production, because everyone wanted the car. For let space to the other car too. This auto is just amazing. I’m proud for be Italian 🇮🇹
Was fortunate to own one some years ago. I still miss it. Sure its not as fast as some things these days, but staggeringly quick point to point even so. Every drive was memorable. Beautiful in the flesh.
I owned a non Evo Integrale (HFie) and I've got to agree with everything you've said. Had to trade it in when my first kid was on the way (no boot space because the spare wheel was in there). I miss it. 😭😭
I've been following Harry's garage since the start of lock-down. I'm working my way through his back catalogue and found this one I missed. I was going to buy one from Walker's Garage in North Yorkshire in 2001, but I was working away from home and needed something that could handle 30k miles/year. In 2017 (having hit 50) I was looking for a toy and started looking at these again. After looking at a few in my price range and talking to Walker's again, I quickly realised that I would end up handing over a large chunk of my pension pot to get a good one. An opportunity missed. But a pleasure to see a real-world review. Thanks Harry
It's just so refreshing to listen to one of the most respected motor journalist over the past 30 years impart his pearls of wisdom to us all :-) As for this absolute belter of a hot hatch, in my opinion Lancia nailed it! - and no one has delivered the shear driving pleasure or emotions evoked when sat behind the wheel. I owned one in 1992 & still miss it dearly to this day.
You brought a tear on my eye. My best friend's father had many of those Lancia Integrale (mind you, LanCia not LanZia) and one was exactly in the same colour. I still neatly remember the noise of those cars and the joy of sitting behind the steering wheel dreaming of Miky Biason winning another World Rally championship. What a beauty!
You sum this car up absolutely dead on - I was lucky enough to own 4 of them and my last one (1995 model) I used every day through the B roads of Herefordshire. The steering, the suspension etc etc - it's just such a special car. I always loved the way it was "the real deal" and so close to the actual rally version - stuff like a radiator for the power steering - brilliant.
Lancia started to race in late '60 and they won till they left in mid '90. Audi, Peugeot, Toyota....they all had their time but no one was winning for so long. Still today Lancia is the most iconic brand in the Rally world but they can't make a decent car since they left racing 25 years ago.
I recall fondly so many WRC events with that wonderful car! Biasion, Alen, Kankkunen, Recalde, etc were massive stars. I was lucky enough to visit Abarth at 38 Corso Marche in Torino during those wonderful years, and see firsthand the engineering and incredible talent behind tge development of these cars. Got to drive one on several occasions, and Harry is absolutely correct about the handling and verve of this little hothatch. The ride that I received in an S4 on gravel was unforgettable! Over 50 now, so I just putter along in me old Aston, going for a picnic. Harry is the best on YT. Articulate and authentic, he is very etnest, respectful, and engaging. Hope to have him drive me old banger someday...
When I was a kid, it's what we called "beefy"! A guy in my home town had one, and it was absolutely wonderful! I always loved it so much more than the Sierra Cosworth's and Escort RS Turbo's and cossies.
It's really unique to have someone bring the special automobiles to life (video review and driving vs. just stills) and that is why I always come back...love the cars and I appreciate that it's shared...Thanks!
What many people forget is that many Italian cars have lots of little things that just drive some people nuts, and hence they sell them. The people that can forgive these little faults or personality traits, are the ones that always keep and enjoy these cars. Thanks Harry.
I used to own an integrale 8v (non - Evo) painted in Giallo. Fantastic car!. The body tweaks to the Evo II Harry's driving made it look even cooler. Still miss mine - cue deep sigh and dreamy look....
I've been looking for a spiritual successor to the Integrale since the 90's. Mine was a bucket of bolts but it weighed 4kg and that awd system was intuitive. You felt like a cyborg, half man half car. Absolutely amazing. Remember this thing has no traction control and it still felt so stable.
Xause we're all passionate here i want to tell you a story, in 94 my dad used to have a 16v, and my uncles has an evo 1,a maserati quattroporte, and a 155 Silverstone, they always parked the cars all to3in fort of their business, there was always a big crowd trying to look inside the cars through the glass. Good times
Another quality video from Harry. Great cars these Integrales. Owned a late Giallo Evo II for a short time in the mid 00's. Brilliant car around the Welsh hills where I live if a little fragile at times, turned heads wherever I went in it. Traded it in against a Mitsi Evo VI which was an excellent car but given the choice now it would have to be the Lancia, they just look so good...

"They took a 80's hatchbackAnd won the world championship! Now that's what you call an epic carmaker. Too bad Fiat wasn't into reviving Lancia into a sporty company and baisically destroyed the brand by ugly economy cars.
Couldn't have put it better. Given that FIAT have now revealed that all Lancias bar the Ypsilon will cease production and the Ypsilon only go on sale in Italy from now on, the death of Lancia is nearly complete. And yet, 22 years after Lancia pulled out of rallying, no other manufacturer has come close to matching their record of championships. I only hope they eventually see sense and bring Lancia back, perhaps in the way they revived Abarth, as a specialist producer of limited volume cars.

I had one for 6 years in Spain. 93 model. It broke a lot and mechanics did not know how to fix it well so I sold it. Hated how much they would brake , but when running well it was an amazing car to drive..
Lancia delta integrale uses a simular if not the same 2ltr non turbo fiat tipo sedicivalvole head, integrale has bronze valve guides fitted to cope with the extra heat the turbo charger system creates. I had to break an early fiat sedici that had bottom end issues and sold the head and inlet manifold to a company called red mist racing, they used to source the fiat heads and convert them for the lancia delta integrale (which was good for me recouping some cash for my dead car at the time), but the intake sound of the 16v fiat tipo sedicivalvole was very loud/impressive for a 4 pot.
this man does have class, i love his calm enthusiasm.
That's a great description calm enthusiasm. I like it.
One likes a little heel and toe don't you know ! 😋
yes,and he has no tattoos and stupid hair. :)
with all that class you'd think he would pronounce Lancia properly

"I really like its stealthiness", drives a bright yellow car.
Well, to be fair, in a banana orchard it would blend right in!
With its rear wing in the "full turbo nutter mode" position and the engine in a constant state of overboost. Very stealthy indeed.
I think he means its unanticipated performance given its 90's everyday looks . . .

A pal of mine has one of these. I occaisionally navigate for him. The car gets huge attention especially in Europe.
Love this car soooo much. 80s dreaming.
I’ve always wanted that car, I remember painting my 1980 VW 4 door Rabbit to replicate it.
Best hatchback ever!! So cool!!!!
Gosh how I miss mine.... One car I should never have sold!
