    Before I started keto few month ago, I quit eating sugar and minimized sugar containing products for almost ten years, and I reach the state where I wasnt craving anything sweet at all. Never used any sugar substitutes! Now with keto diet I've started using them, as some of the recipes call for it...
    And I am back in the gutter, Craving sugar and everything sweet! I'm working on consuming more greens and doing the keto right, but I think I will reduce the use of sugar substitutes as much as possible, as my taste receptors remembered the taste of it and now they're mad at me for hiding it from them all these years and craving sugar with all the back dates...

    Hi guys. PLEASE READ THIS! Someone on my channel alerted me to your video which shows Stevia in The Raw as one of your stevia options. As I value all trying to keep it Keto, I had to let you know that particular product contains maltodextrin, an ingredient which has a higher glycemic index than sugar! They do that to make the Stevia In The Raw a 1:1 substitute for sugar. I made a video on this product which I'll link in my next comment. All said with humility and as a friend in keto. So what Stevia should I be looking for?

    • @TheKetoKingOfficial
      @TheKetoKingOfficial 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Ty Budd Hi Ty. So you can get pure Stevia (mixed with nothing) but Stevia is very sweet, so you'll be using just a tiny amount of it in a recipe - You can find liquid Stevia drops which is like that.
      They often mix Stevia with a sugar alcohol such as erythritol. This is great because erythritol, like Stevia has no effect on your blood sugar levels. Plus, it becomes closer to a 1:1 substitute for sugar. The key is to read the ingredient list! I personally use either erythritol or xylitol.

    So glad you talked about xylitol being toxic to dogs! We have 2 dogs and my husband loves to give them bits of his food. A few months ago, I heard about the fact that xylitol can kill a dog, researched it and decided to get it out of my house. I worry my husband (or I) won't remember what food it might be in and feed it to them. I am a stevia user, and as you say, read the labels, because stevia can have additives that you don't want.

    I learned first hand that Stevia can cause temporary infertility. My husband and I had been trying to conceive for several months (we already had children too) and had 2 suspected early losses and I prayed for an answer and I realized I should try cutting out stevia so I did. Sure enough, within weeks I was expecting and had a healthy pregnancy. I did some minimal research on stevia and found there have actually been studies in the past on stevia as a natural birth control method. Just wanted to share that for anyone that might need that info! Also makes me wonder if it’s really safe if it’s effecting ovulation or menstruation?

    My wife who is Cantonese buys monk fruit dried and packaged at a local Asian market. It is actually really darn cheap when bought that way. She makes a sweet soup by cooking the fruit in the soup with all the rest of the good stuff. I have often thought that you could cook it in clear water and have a cheap healthy liquid sugar. It really tastes great.

    • @candiceewert

      john smith ..... it actually has to do with the fiber as you would eat the fruit thousands of years ago when you juice it you don't get any of the fiber. The fiber helps the body slow the absorption of the fructose in the fruit. .. thereby making it a better option and less harsh and spiking the insulin. eat the fruit with the fiber the juice alone is too high in fructose

It's not cooling, and doesn't upset my stomach. Julian Bakery Monk Fruit Powder (not mentioned) is also a staple in my pantry. For most baked goods I use 1/4 cup ZenSweet (or Xylitol) and 1-2 tsp. Julian Bakery Monk Fruit Powder.

      i like it in drinks, but not in baking
      it gives a cold mild metallic alcohol like aftertaste
      i have had to chuck out a cake because it didnt taste sweet but had that aftertaste and i was deciding i should try another sweetner, maybe monk fruit

      Bruceann Yellowega Truvia says it has in it stevia leaf extract, erythritol and other natural flavors (but they don’t say what they are). It’s made by the Coca Cola company. It has been said it may include aluminum and xylitol as part of their natural ingredients.

    I would love a video on the long term effects of these sugar substitutes because we all know what happened to people eating sweet and low. Also, I’m surprised you didn’t mention to be careful about additives in the in ingredient list, some are awful. Thank you both however, I follow your videos and they have helped me so much!

      I find it hard to believe that organic raw sugar cane is just as bad as refined white sugar...

    I really appreciated this video. Dr. Berg, you by yourself are very easy to listen to and I've shared your videos with several friends and family. But put your wife next to you, and it's even better! Lol. Maybe because I'm female, but you two are such great communicators and pleasant to be around (thru video of course). I pray your continued study of health keeps on blessing millions as they learn and grow from your caring, honest and humble sharing. Grace and peace to you.
