Nice review. I've had my A7iv for two weeks now. And I love it. As a filmmaker, it's exactly what I've wanted at the price point I was comfortable with. And honestly, the whining about the 4K 60fps crop is given way too much attention. As an example, I filmed a 5-foot wide water fountain at close range with a full frame 24mm f/1.8 lens at 24fps. I switched to 4K 60fps, and I had to step back 1-1/2 feet to achieve the same composition. Yes, a whole foot and a half. Seriously folks, if that's an issue for you, then maybe you should move back into your mom's basement. I have some videos planned for my own channel, specifically from the standpoint of a filmmaker. It's gonna be fun.
I believe you and I arrived at the same conclusion. It was so difficult to choose anything other than Panasonic because of their feature packed reasonably priced cameras. But I don't like manually focussing so went for Sony.
I've never really been tempted by Sony, but dang, this camera looks awesome. I do love my X-T4 though, it's photo/video switch does make a big difference! Just feel like Fuji is lacking in good video lenses.
I switched to Sony (A-1) a few months ago for very similar reasons. I also bought a few of the cheap Samyang/Rokinon autofocus lenses (14mm, 45mm and 75mm) to test autofocus filmmaking. It really is hard to beat Sony for a do-it-all hybrid. If they opened up a FF open-gate mode for anamorphic, there's basically nothing I wouldn't shoot on it.
I have a S5 and S1 and a A73. I have never really enjoyed the Sony. Like everyone else I really wish the Panasonics had Sony AF but they have advantages in other areas. Firstly they are much cheaper. I bought the S5 new with the kit lens and the 50 1.8 for less than the A74 body only. I bought a second hand S1 for 1000€ and a 24-105 f4 for 800€ meaning 2 cameras and 3 lenses cost less than a A7S3. I often use 2 cameras so that soon adds up. Another thing is that the Panasonics can almost be treated like traditional video cameras. I often use them to film conferences or streaming etc and I can have them recording for hours without stopping. This I feel makes them better all rounders. But I do want Sony AF!
Your intro sold me. No obnoxious music, but just good old film-style storytelling with some yummy ass looking food. Came for the camera, stayed for that sandwich! Great video.
Right tool for your situation. That’s what I’m here for; the honesty. I just picked up a used X-T4 and I’m a hobbyist looking for a distraction. I sell commercial coffee equipment as a part of my job and guess what… the things I sell my clients aren’t what I would suggest to a passion-driven home espresso enthusiast. It’s always about keeping it 100 about your POV, your experience, and what you would do in someone else’s shoes. Thanks for the content. It’s been great.
I was on the fence so long between the S5 and the Sony A7c in the price vs autofocus vs quality war. I’m happy I chose the S5 for now for my first Mirrorless camera after watching your videos. It really is the best bang for the buck to get you started. The A7iv with a kit lens would be almost a $1000 more than what I got the S5 and kit lens for.
Did not expect you to move over to the A7iv. I had been thinking bout the S5 based on your glowing recommendations of it and how the AF issues were overblown but now it sounds like the AF issues were bothering you a bit more than you thought. I really only think the S5 pro is the price. But other than that, the Sony wins hands down. Now if only I could find one is stock somewhere...
you can get by for talking head AF with the S5 - it's the point and shoot at objects that it doesn't cut it. I still think it's the best camera for $2K. I will still be using it on 90% of my client jobs.
@@impatrickt yeah I agree with you on that. I just know the A7iv would probably be my end game camera so spending the little bit extra would probably be worth it.
@@impatrickt what type of video are the majority of your client jobs, interviews, b-roll of products, etc. ? I’m hoping to start doing client work this next year now that I got my S5.
This camera checked all of my boxes except for a few things: rolling shutter (its worse than the S5), DCI 4k (the S5 has this), and also shutter angle control (also an S5 feature), so for these reasons I'm gonna stick with my S5 and its autofocus is generally good enough for my needs even though its not perfect.
the rolling shutter in FF mode on the S5 is pretty comparable to the a7iv, they both perform way better in Super 35. but I find the S5 to be too noisy in APS-C mode. I've never used DCI4K. Shutter angle has no impact on my final product. I understand your points though! S5 is a great camera I won't be getting rid of it.
S1 (and I'm assuming the S5) rolling shutter is about 22ms in FF, about 10.5 in APS-C. A74 is about 27ms in FF, and 13ms in APS-C. I find the FF on my S1 tolerable, and greatly enjoy the fast scan in APS-C. 27ms is getting into the territory where you get skew on simple slow-ish tripod-based pans, not to mention anything rougher. Sony should have kept the sensor around 24MP, which would have improved the rolling shutter, and allowed the new processor to handle 4K60 from the full sensor width. Instead they went for a photo resolution bump that nobody asked for.
@@aldolega I didn’t think I would but I’m loving the 33mp photos. I think it’s a fair trade off. If I’m shooting slow mo it’s apsc anyways. But handheld 24fps FF video I haven’t any rolling shutter issues. Oddly enough when I rigged the S1H up I really noticed the rolling shutter. Must have been the weight and how it floated.
I just made a similar switch from Lumix G9 to A7IV. I desperately wanted to move to the S5, but the amount of mental stress this Sony autofocus system relieves is hard to put into words. The first time you use it, it's truly mind blowing -- especially coming from Panasonic. Panasonic used to have far superior colors but I agree with you that Sony has caught up. I do miss the ergonomics of my G9 a bit as they were a 10/10, but the Sony ergonomics for me are about an 7.5 or an 8. The autofocus for Panasonic is like a 5 out of 10 compared to Sony's 10/10. I have gotten to the editing flow and been so frustrated so many times with Panasonic missing focus - or constantly pulsing the background. Curious to hear what lenses you're looking at for your new kit? I am contemplating between Samyang 35 1.8, or sony GM. I don't like the Sony FE for some reason even though it has no focus breathing - the price of it feels high for what it is. I wish the Sigma 35 f2 was a better performer because the styling of that lens is amazing. Anyhow - rant over - Cheers on going Sony! Made me feel great to see you also make the switch at the same time.
the Samyang is the same as the rokinon I used here. I was honestly shocked at how good it is. I ordered their 24mm 2.8 too. for now im gonna keep this kit affordable and cheap - im not fully switched to this ecosystem and im not sure I will ever be. I'd try the Samyang. you can find them on amazon and return if you dont like em!
Also a G9 shooter. I love that camera and think it’s incredible value for money, but I think it’s time. I’m going to seriously consider the A7IV. The lens prices have always scared me off, but seems like there are more and more affordable options.
Great review. I have an A6500 and I’ve been looking to make the jump to a more pro level camera I can do photo and video with. I was on the fence. This review was great. Thank you.
So with you. I have done the Fuji, Olympus, Canon, Panasonic dance. And the A74 really does give me everything I need. Sad to say, but its time to sell the R5 and the Canon lenses. The A74 is just so good, and easy. And, After having the very excellent RF lenses, and comparing the E mount equivalent lenses in size - wow - they are so much smaller.
I’ve been waiting for some reputable opinions on this camera. Will you be keeping your S5 and if so what makes you feel you need to after buying the A7 IV?
Except the dials visually conflict depending on the mode. That camera was such a POS in hindsight. I had it for a month to review. Fuji needs to step up soon LOL
i should add, i spent three years trying to make Fuji work for video. I never ever would have thought I would switch to Sony of all brands. Souless, no color, computer in a body Sony. But now I sold my XT4, XT3, 8 Fuji lenses, and work in exuberant happiness with an A7siii and now an A7iv by its side. Sony has made my love video work, which is sort of what Fuji users always talk about with photography "Fuji made me fall in love with photography again". I get it, Fuji is special. But for video it was a pain in the neck. Kept my x100v though.
Sony consolidated so many features into their recent camera bodies, it's hard to ignore. The A1, A7SIII, A7IV, are all compact, great AF, new color science, no record limits, solid price, great lens selection (Tamron 35-150mm F2-2.8?) etc... it doesn't surprise me how so many TH-camrs are switching all at the same time. You can buy a A7SIII and A7IV for the price of a Canon EOS R3, Sony wins.
I have been waiting for the Sony A74 for ages. And Sony has delivered it's there answer to the Panasonic S5 and Blackmagic Pocket cinema 6K original. I just wish that Nikon tried just a bit more internal things with the Nikon Z5 like with the Panasonic S5 and Sony A74
Would you use the A7iv with your S5? I have the S1 and S5, but I’ve thought about adding something like an a7iv to my kit to have a dedicated gimbal cam with autofocus and then matching footage in post. Thoughts?
Considering the same exact thing. Did you end up pulling the trigger on the A7IV? My biggest concern is overheating which everyone seems to have a different experience with.
@@framewavemedia4831 no I haven’t gotten it yet. I didn’t know about the overheating though. My work just bought a few A7Siii, so I’m gonna try that out first.
Hello, new sub here. Congrats on the new cam! That 35mm looks really good, especially for the price. It's such a shame that Panasonic hasn't upgraded their AF system. I'm a long time GH2, GH4, GH5 user. I really wanted to go with Panasonic for full frame, but the Sony AF quality and performance is simply the best. So I ordered an A7IV also, I'm actually picking it up at my local camera store this weekend. I want to "focus" more on being in the moment than chimping to make sure I'm getting things in focus while on a shoot.
I love your approach to shooting and certainly the results of your work. I was moved enough by this video to pick up the A7IV myself and very excited to start creating with it and learning to use this camera. Coming from someone that also shoots BRAW on a BMPCC4K I’m curious what Codec/Profiles you’re shooting in on the Sony or could recommend as a good starting base for a similar result/experience in post.
Cool review, I'm still loving my @6500 with 35mm f1.8, 16-105 f4, and kit lens 16-50 f3.5-5.6 lenses. I only upgrade when the camera dies or stop working for my needs.... Good job Bro keep up the good work and Happy New Years...
Hi Patrick, I am not sure about Sony’s color science either. So how do you come to love Sony’s color? Did you color grade it? If you color grade it, what LUT do you use?
I was trying to discern which Fujifilm camera you have (5:29 mark -- maybe the X-T3?), but doesn't the Movie Silent Control option do away with issues with keeping separate settings between photo and video modes? I do this all of the time on my X-T3 and can flip between any photo settings and *always* have exactly what video settings I need already [separately] set. Either way, user experience is always the winner when it comes to the practicalities around production. Glad you have something you're enthusiastic about. 👏
the silence movie controls is a really crappy solution because everything then conflicts with the dials. the only answer is removing the labels from the dial labels like the GFX100S. the XT4 also implemented a similar hack around but I didn't like that camera. bad IBIS. bad AF. but ultimately their video still looks super digital/clinical so its more than just ergonomics. just gotta pick what works best for you.
I would like to see how the new focus assist feature works with a vintage lens in video pulling focus. Is it easy to get repeatable results? Thanks for the video and all the best to you and your channel in 2022.
I’ve never had issues with regular peaking and my old FD’s. I don’t think the new map makes it any easier or consistent. It just takes practice and getting to know your lenses. Cheers!
I have an S5 currently but will be ordering a A7iv in the next week. As much as I love my s5 the continuous autofocus is not dependable. Sometimes it can work great other times not so much and being able to just have a solid auto focus you don’t have to keep monitoring will make things so much easier.
I too need a “Dad cam” as you say. Run & gun for family stills and video on our adventures. Stuck on either buying this A7iv or waiting to see what the fuji Xh2 offers. Thoughts?
@@impatrickt thank you. XH2 may get a bump for auto focus, new processor, and stacked sensor to eliminate rolling shutter. That’s my hangup bc those might level the playing field. Makes my choice hard. Full frame for low light is a benefit of Sony. Idk! Can you give me anything else to go on?
@@1StepTooFar I just don’t like the ergonomics of Fuji for video. Particularly the retro knobs and dials. I also find their footage very digital and clinical. I’ve never had issue with rolling shutter in any of these cameras.
Hi Patrick, did you use the phantom luts for the AS7SIII for the A7IV footage? I have mine on pre-order and I am looking into how I can speed up my workflow.
Are you giving up on the S5 then? I have a G9 which I love and it's honestly the best camera I used for handling and thinking to get the S5 too. But now with the A7IV I'm having doubts because of that autofocus, it would be so amazing to have in Lumix cameras! 😩
love your vids fam !! quick question in comparison to the Blackmagic image is it close ?? or is it no comparison. and sidebar make a lut with your moody style for the a7iv I would cop it !!
truly at this point if you know your color grading I dont think the blackmagic has some secret sauce. even the S5 has more dynamic range than the 4K and 6K in my tests. I think blackmagic has more of a baked in look that can be difficult to remove, but a lot of people like that baked in look. theyre very different cameras though, personally I hate blackmagic bodies so until they make a cube or Ursa micro I won't be giving them much attention (I still own the 4K).
Love your passion man. I just found you through your work reviewing the Rode mic and how simple to create a podcast with garage band. Definitely got a sub from me! Keep it up :)
The real question, can you adjust the af sensitivity? The constant little af adjustments with Sony’s cameras is annoying to watch (and every big TH-cam camera channel has the same background pulsing issue). Watching the background with this is almost the same as Panasonic (but you’re right, the Sony actually keeps you in focus at least!).
@@impatrickt I guess it’s not hunting but technically focus breathing when you lean in and or put up your hand. Cool that it can be adjusted. I see it all the time now in Casey’s and Matti’s videos since they switched to Sony-driving me crazy lol
@@mr.s4849 if you use sony lenses you can completely remove focus breathing. this is actually the only camera on the market that has that functionality.
Hey Patrick! Great video as always. I’m pumped about this camera as well. Did you notice any compatibility issues with the Phantom LUTs? Or do they work as well as they do with the A7SIII etc.?
I have the Sigma 150-600 DG DN for birding. This is why I love the iv. I take photos of animals and birds. This camera is only eclipsed by the A1 because of fps. That’s it.
Thanks for the review…what is the camera that will suit your needs.. that is what is most important…love your statement! I own both the Fuji XT-4 (very recent) and the Z6II. Both these cameras have the camera/movie switch that retain individual settings so the Sony hasn’t invented anything new/special. The other thought I had was your comment about the XT-4. I am a street photographer and don’t see any issues with the retro workflow. I usually set the iso, aperture and shutter speed and the in good shooting…making minor tweaks as I go…no issues. I would say the same would be so for stills, product, landscape etc. I DO agree that if I was showing sports, wildlife, perhaps vlogging 😊 I might want to use a different camera (haven’t tried vlogging on my Z6II though)
Great video, thank you. I am lucky enough to have the Sony a1, but I am looking for a B cam for many scenarios and I am considering the A7IV. The concern I have with the rolling shutter issues is, I shoot a lot of kids dance concerts. A question for you: If I had the A7IV locked off on a tripod for the wide shot to capture the whole stage (so the kids would be fairly small), so you think it would be an issue? The kids would be moving through the frame quickly, but I am not sure that at a distance the rolling shutter would be an issue. I’d appreciate your views. (Oh, I’d be shooting in either 24 or 30frames 4K). Thanks so much. ✌️
As someone who used the S5 and a7siii I found the canon R6 a good compromise especially now with the prices drop and best range of cheap lenses 2nd. I keep thinking about keeping into Sony but just can’t use their lenses on anything else which is a shame.
@@impatrickt yeah I understand that could be a major issue. Thankfully it’s not something I’ve had issue with but I’m not shooting long form😇. My 2nd camera would probably still be the S5 or the Sony you just reviewed. BTW Crops don’t bother me either 😇👍
@@impatrickt Canon updated the firmware, several months ago, and that really made a huge difference to the overheating issue of the R6 (virtually resolved it for many users), however, Canon still has the annoying 30 minute limitation on its video length (not related to overheating) and that can be a deal-breaker for some.
Happy holidays Patrick, looking forward to more content in 2022, bring on 50K woo (something about the aesthetic of your content that I just vibe with)
this literally made me go spec the IV out and now im seriously entertaining a sony for the first time since i stopped selling cameras over 6 years ago.
Hi, I thank you to share your interesting video. I'd like to as a question but beforse I'd like to know if you have you ever used the Lumix GH5 MarkII. Thanks for your reply.
@@impatrickt I don't know how to thank you for your kind reply. I have 2 questions for you please. I had the Lumix GH5 and it broke so I have to buy another camera. I DO NOT take pictures. I only make documentaries in 4K 10 bit around the world and in remote areas of Africa, etc. to document the daily life of indigenous peoples. So above all I make videos in full sunlight. My 2 questions: 1) Is the stabilization of the Sony A7 IV equivalent to that of the Lumix GH5 MarkII? 2) In your opinion, do you see better the Sony A7 IV or the Lumix GH5 MarkII for my documentaries? I know that Sony crops and maybe shooting in bright light you don't even see the difference in video image quality between the two cameras. And then it is a bit more difficult to focus with a full frame, and I always have little time. Can you advise me between the two cameras, remembering that I don't take pictures? 1000 Thanks
@@ExploringWorldTH-cam I actually think the Lumix S5 would be better for you. It's basically a full frame GH5. I don't think its a good time to buy the GH5II - a GH6 is imminent any day now. If you need a camera right now I'd probably grab the S5. If you can wait maybe see what the GH6 offers so you don't need to buy new lenses.
you made the right move! and if you are 35mm lover ,sell Samyang and get the Sony 35mm f1.8 to avoid the breathing issues.. I understand that this time you spent lot of money, but is ''same'' to have breathing with auto focus when shoot with a7iv.. Remember that ,when combine a7iv with Sony lenses, breathing is gone,of course you have to set it at ''on''!!!! cheers from Greece!! Have fun!!
Mine is on order should have it next week and can't wait! Was that Ketchup on the egg sandwich if so bravo! I love my a7iii for photography and have used it since it came out. Thanks for the video cheers.
Thanks for the vid Patrick. I have been tossing up between S5 and A7iv and the latter has addressed most of the concerns I've had about Sony cameras, although a few of those Panasonic video features would be nice. Question: with the new shutter closure during lens change on the Sony, is sensory dust less of an issue (so many vids I see shot on Sony have dust dots) and how does it compare to an S5. Thanks
I also have both LUMIX s5 and Sony a7iv, but can’t get footage to look so good, LOL. Love both brands for different usage. Sony everywhere, Panasonic in a more controlled environment when my kids are not running wild, great images.
Hi! Happy new year! I am a blind content creator. I heard that the Alpha7iv has a screen reader that reads the menus. Could you please show this feature. If it can speak, I will fundraising. This is the first actual camera that could speak.
Soo, is upgrading from the A7C worth the upgrade to the A7IV, I believe with the A7C I get the new color science and great AF... I don't need the 120FPS or 60FPS... What you think? Great video btw man!! :D
CVP made a video comparion with he A7S iii and A7IV which showed really big differences when trying to recover shadows. The a7IV faired much worse and the colour science seemed off too. What do you think, did they screw the test up? No one has commented on the shadow recovery off the A7IV.
there’s no issue with dynamic range or color on any of these modern cameras. don’t watch side by sides. it’s pointless. a lot of people are using an outdated slog3 to rec709 that just simply doesn’t work with a7iv. it makes the colors brown and muddy.
@@impatrickt thanks! I think you have an important point with the rec 709 conversion. I could get the S1H for 2400 USD used, would you take it or the A7IV? Are the Panasonic codecs that much better?
The body is more expensive, but when you price up the lenses it evens out with Sony. (Im a Nikon user). Im picking one up in the new year with a 28mm F2. PS - the new photo/video switch is the final feature I needed from Sony. Nikon has one right were your thumb lies (still better position) but ill take it - as its essential for quick hybrid work.
lol people keep saying this. I had the XT4 for a month... it's an absolute mess. The dials contradict one or the other modes - it's ass backwards. SONY has blank dials meaning you can continue to use them in either mode without effecting anything and visually there's no contradiction. I can't stand those analog printed dials on the X/XT/XE cameras - I'm so glad Fuji got rid of them on the GFX series, hopefully that trickles down to all their models.
@@impatrickt thanks, I don't own a Fuji x-t4 yet but in all the reviews I watched, they insist on that separation being the best feature. I didn't think it was a mess, I'm gonna try to find videos of both menus and compare to have a clear idea, or the manuals. I so agree with you with that analog nostalgia BS. Don't get me wrong, I prefer a good tactile and accessible button, but what Fuji did is far from being any good. I have a X-Pro 3, those dials with a microscopic window and the numbers that get upside down as you turn the wheel. Come on please, we're in an era where UI UX is everything, you can do better!
@@impatrickt thanks for the explanation. yeah the black magic menus seem to be slick! Apparently the new DJI 4D menu is really inspired by the BM one. Personally I don't really like the Fuji's ones, they need to be reworked.
I Just bought an S5 with kit lens, 20-60, 35mm 1.8, 85mm 1.8 and the sigma to EF converter, extra battery, smallrig cage for a little under 3K ... Lots of what I do would benefit great AF... I think I made a mistake :(
I have a Fuji Xs10. I want to go back to full frame. I've never owned a Sony camera. Only canon and fuji. I'm really just looking for a great hybrid camera. As I do a lot of photography and video. I'm really debating on getting the Sony a7iv..
Good to hear, I’m considering switching from the S5 too. Autofocus primarily, but I like that Sony makes small stuff (the f/2.5 lenses, A7C, FX3). I like using shutter angle on the S5 but it annoys me to have to always have it assigned to a dial rather than completely fixed.
Imagine how much bigger Lumix would be if they could just fix their dang AF. It's like they hate money or something.
fingers crossed!

you can get by for talking head AF with the S5 - it's the point and shoot at objects that it doesn't cut it.
@@impatrickt why will you keep using the S5 for client work vs the A7iv? just curious :)
@@Elliot12367 I don’t want to buy Sony glass when I already have a full L kit
@@aldolega I’m in complete agreement with this. 24mp is plenty for photos. We all really want faster scan speeds.
@@impatrickt Yea it's disappointing how the S1H is a bit slower in FF than the S1. Oh well, reduces my temptation to buy one 😄
Congrats on the new camera. We’re sticking with the S5 for now. Wishing you luck and a prosperous new year. Over and out. ✌🏻
Great review! Your comments regarding the importance of AF seems spot on. Glad you found a camera that is such a good fit for your needs.
Thank you.
Fincher would approve that intro 🔥
Loved your video …which camera and lens you used in this video which you shot in this vlog ?
So with you. I have done the Fuji, Olympus, Canon, Panasonic dance. And the A74 really does give me everything I need. Sad to say, but its time to sell the R5 and the Canon lenses. The A74 is just so good, and easy. And, After having the very excellent RF lenses, and comparing the E mount equivalent lenses in size - wow - they are so much smaller.
some many great affordable third party lenses too with AF

Nope
Welcome to the Sony club! Can't wait to grab the iv when it's back in stock here in the UK 😩
I’ve been waiting for some reputable opinions on this camera. Will you be keeping your S5 and if so what makes you feel you need to after buying the A7 IV?
That camera was given to me for free. I have no real reason to keep it now other than it’s nice to have and I’ve invested a lot money into L mount.
I'm Rocking the A1 and FX6 but I just bought the A74 it came home last week LOVE IT!!!
5:50 - My Fujifilm X-T4 has this quick photo/video switch dial too, so handy 😁.
Except the dials visually conflict depending on the mode. That camera was such a POS in hindsight. I had it for a month to review. Fuji needs to step up soon LOL
you are just terrific. love your opening and the way you cover the material. look forward to everything to come.
i should add, i spent three years trying to make Fuji work for video.
I use a lumix gh5s but i'm thinking about trying out a full frame mirrorless camera and this is looking like it.
Good choice!
@@impatrickt Can you suggest the best lens to go with A7iv?
Sony consolidated so many features into their recent camera bodies, it's hard to ignore. The A1, A7SIII, A7IV, are all compact, great AF, new color science, no record limits, solid price, great lens selection (Tamron 35-150mm F2-2.8?) etc... it doesn't surprise me how so many TH-camrs are switching all at the same time.
You can buy a A7SIII and A7IV for the price of a Canon EOS R3, Sony wins.
Also the fine tuning shutter for light source artifacts (which I think is just photo mode?)
The a7iv is has been what I wished my GH5 would be. Loving it so far!
i also ordered the a7iv to replace my gh5. are you selling your gh5?

I have been waiting for the Sony A74 for ages. And Sony has delivered it's there answer to the Panasonic S5 and Blackmagic Pocket cinema 6K original.
I just wish that Nikon tried just a bit more internal things with the Nikon Z5 like with the Panasonic S5 and Sony A74
nice vid homie you dropped several gems that are gonna help me as I just got this camera after 4 years on the gh5
Would you use the A7iv with your S5?
I have the S1 and S5, but I’ve thought about adding something like an a7iv to my kit to have a dedicated gimbal cam with autofocus and then matching footage in post. Thoughts?
yeah the b roll in this video is the S5 - they play nice together just fine.

Great intro :) Yes! I want the convenience with the quality too. I am loving my a7iv!

Hi Patrick, I am not sure about Sony’s color science either. So how do you come to love Sony’s color? Did you color grade it? If you color grade it, what LUT do you use?
I answer this in the video
I was thinking about making the same switch but was worried a bit about the rolling shutter. Good to hear that it’s not that bad 👍🏻
I was just getting ready to get a s5 and then you drop this video
Yeah I shot on Canon for a long time, but I bought an A7riii this month because it was on sale. Sony makes really Solid Cameras 👍
Is it possible to choose a bad camera nowadays? Great review and really down to earth, as always.
there's still some iffy ones out there - but pure image quality wise, no.
How do you grade your pictures start at 6:31 ? They look amazing..! if there's recommended presets or your own presets please tell me sensei!!

Sometimes it can work great other times not so much and being able to just have a solid auto focus you don’t have to keep monitoring will make things so much easier.
hope you like it! fingers crossed lumix adds PDAF soon.
Love this perspective. I didn’t want to like Sony (for some reason) but now I love both of my cameras 😁

I dont like fuji for video. I have an XT3, XE4 and a couple X100 models. cool for photos.

Are you giving up on the S5 then? I have a G9 which I love and it's honestly the best camera I used for handling and thinking to get the S5 too. But now with the A7IV I'm having doubts because of that autofocus, it would be so amazing to have in Lumix cameras! 😩
Tools for the job. Gotta use what you need.
love your vids fam !! quick question in comparison to the Blackmagic image is it close ?? or is it no comparison. and sidebar make a lut with your moody style for the a7iv I would cop it !!
truly at this point if you know your color grading I dont think the blackmagic has some secret sauce. even the S5 has more dynamic range than the 4K and 6K in my tests. I think blackmagic has more of a baked in look that can be difficult to remove, but a lot of people like that baked in look. theyre very different cameras though, personally I hate blackmagic bodies so until they make a cube or Ursa micro I won't be giving them much attention (I still own the 4K).

The real question, can you adjust the af sensitivity? The constant little af adjustments with Sony’s cameras is annoying to watch (and every big TH-cam camera channel has the same background pulsing issue). Watching the background with this is almost the same as Panasonic (but you’re right, the Sony actually keeps you in focus at least!).
yeah there's full control of responsiveness and stickiness. I dont see any pulsing with this camera.

I own 6 Fuji cameras. They have their place but for work and anything of meaning I find them pretty frustrating and hipster. Haha.

@@impatrickt thanks.
I’ve never had a rolling shutter issue
As someone who used the S5 and a7siii I found the canon R6 a good compromise especially now with the prices drop and best range of cheap lenses 2nd. I keep thinking about keeping into Sony but just can’t use their lenses on anything else which is a shame.
I can’t deal with the heat issues of the R6. Even if it might not happen I can’t even have it on my mind. I know two people that have returned them.

There’s a review of it on my channel 🙏
@@impatrickt I don't know how to thank you for your kind reply.
I have 2 questions for you please.
I had the Lumix GH5 and it broke so I have to buy another camera. I DO NOT take pictures. I only make documentaries in 4K 10 bit around the world and in remote areas of Africa, etc. to document the daily life of indigenous peoples. So above all I make videos in full sunlight. My 2 questions:
1) Is the stabilization of the Sony A7 IV equivalent to that of the Lumix GH5 MarkII?
Great review mate! Maybe I should also move to the Sony A7IV 😁 I love that little switch from photo and video mode!

That photo/movie switch is on the Fuji X-T4 and it separates all the settings between the 2 modes.
Is there more to it on Sony A4?
lol people keep saying this.
