    **UPDATE** At 6:30, I mislabeled the cameras. In the individual shots, the A7IV and FX3 are mixed up... a few seconds later when I show all 3 side by side, the labels are correct! Thanks to @zeko reko for pointing this out and keen eye!

      Quick question... according to sensor light, would the sigma 18-50 2.8 in apsc mode on the a7iv at 18mm have the same amount of sensor light as a full frame version 16-55 2.8 in 27mm on the a7iv in full frame? Like, will the 2.8 amount of light hitting the sensor be the same?

    Many thanks for answering those questions.
    My only concern was the rolling shutter but as long as it is similar to A7iii's then I'm okay with it.
    I've used the a7iii for 3 years and rolling shutter wasn't a problem (it all depends on how we use the camera and what we use it for).
    I'm excited for you on your upcoming travels.

      @@dunnadidit Yeah but don't expect it to be on Par with the A7s3, less to read out with that camera, this camera has over over 2x as much to read out. If you ever tried the A7r4 you will see how bad it can get, at 62 megapixels it can get pretty bad even in photos.

    Been using the A7C for the last year and few months. It was my first full frame mirrorless camera when I transitioned from the Canon APS-C DSLR world (80D) to the Sony full frame world! At first I looked at the A7iii but I needed the updated video features, color science, autofocus and flip out screen that the A7C just so happened to have over the A7iii. Come about a year and a few months later and having made some money using the A7C, I think I’m ready to sell it so I can upgrade to the A7IV. The A7C has served me well and has helped me create great video and photo projects (even shot a wedding with it if you can believe it. No Duel SD card slot made it extremely stressful though lol) however I think in order to be taken more seriously as a professional creator and also be able to fully trust and rely on my gear with the additional pro features I’m not getting the with A7C. I think it’s worth the upgrade

    I shoot still photos, and I'm happy with my a7iii, but I am eager to upgrade to the a7iv. I mostly want it for the slightly better ergonomics, better I/O covers, and AF improvements. Oh, and higher rez sensor is just a nice bonus.

    A crucial difference I see in your landscape images is to be found in the dynamic range. When looking at rocks, cliffs, trees, it's obvious : the amount of definition in the darker areas is huge compared with the Alpha 7M3. When it shows a dark stripe of tree apexes, the AM4 show each apex in detail. And it just is similar with the rock-walls and cliffs : so much more to see there.
    Does it matter, really ? Ask landscape-only photographers, mainly the ones who use chambers or medium-format cameras. Why do they use these devices, are they just masochists, did they win those at some lottery ?
    Details in landscape are just as important as the quality of the raw cocoa in real hand-made "truffes" (the things you call truffles in Northern America). This is what makes the difference between good and oustanding. For its price, the 7M4 produces outstanding images, and it takes about 3 times its retail price to see a concrete difference in image depth, dynamic, definition.

    What actually is 10 bit? Is it set it and forget it? Or does it require extra editing? Kind of like the iPhone has the ultra high dynamic range or whatever they call it where it changes the image totally blown out until you fix it. In the editing.

    I've watched many of these a7iv videos. I came across one video where the landscape photographer talked about the a7iii having "hot spots" that are gone with the a7iv. There was also a "banding & striping issue" with the a7iii sensor. This appears with certain lens and high backlight conditions. I believe this is gone with the a7iv sensor.

    I think the 4K 60p with Crop is a huge opportunity to get some work out of the Sony 10-18 f/4.0 crop lens. This is a cheap lens that every reviewer has said they have gotten years of life out of, and it has stabilization. Thoughts?
    I shoot my real estate photos with that lens on an a6100 now over my Rokinon 14mm 2.8 or Tamron 17-28mm on my a7III just for the sharpness / wide angle / AF. It has been a beast of a performer and I think it will nicely fill the gap for the rare occasion that I need wide slow-mo. Using it on the a6100 for 4K 24p and 1080 120p has been immaculate. Looking forward to getting my a7IV to test.

    In reference to your photo quality comment, photo quality hasn't drastically improved in any camera for the last several years. Part of this has to do with he fact that we have had 16bit raw for quite some time and we could really push grades in programs like Lightroom for a long time. My A7r2 still hangs with most cameras in what I can get out of it including the new A7r4, and Canon R5, heck I borrowed a Canon 5D MK3 for a shoot a couple years ago and it was still preforming like a champ. However with my A7r2 im still amazed at how much dynamic range I can pull out of it with post processing, I can already get HDR off a single shot, and as a lot of us know there is much debate on the HDR look for photos as it is because we start to venture in the area that it looks surreal and unnatural.

    How do Sony cameras handle extreme weather conditions? I have yet to find a single video on TH-cam, of anyone using a Sony camera in pouring rain, extreme cold or extreme humidity. The impression I got so far from trying to research Sony cameras build quality and weather sealing is that either Sony users are afraid to use their cameras in extreme weather or the Sony cameras can't handle rain and humidity well... I'm asking because I shoot WRC/FIA and other Rally events all over Europe, Asia and Americas, with sometimes having to stay in the rain, walking around the track/stage for the entire day - and I would like to switch to Sony but I just can't find any solid proof that Sony cameras can indeed candle extreme weather - which I'm mostly interested about how they are in rain, more specifically heavy rain. If anyone here owns an a7iv, a7Riv, a9ll or a1 and you have shot in extreme weather, please reply! Thanks in advance!

I also had the a74 out in quite a bit of rain a couple times with no issue as well. I don’t know if I’d call the situations extreme and I did try to shield it if I could, but in the end, they both got good and wet without problems.

    False for same quality in 1080p with différents fps.
    120fps in 1080p is only in 8bits if we want the sound, otherwise we go through the dedicated slow-Mo mode in this case we have 1080p 120i/s 10 bits but no sound capture.

    • @dunnadidit
      @dunnadidit  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You’re right! The 120p 1080 is 8 bit. But as far as how it LOOKS the quality looks great next to the 60p or 24p. Previously, the 120p got a lot softer in older cameras.
      That said, not having 10 but will give you less ability for grading and potentially more issues with color banding in certain situations.

    disappointing camera i wished to buy but is not appealing at all.. the stacked sensor is a must .. so I don't see much of a difference with my a7III.. of course 10 bit is something but not, when there is a crop for 4k 60p ... why sonyyyyyy why such minor upgrade!!!!! and a bigger price !!! No way. When companies don't evolve for not compete with their lineup .. is awful for us.. canon finally is just giving us all, the best camera i would buy right now the R3 that offers all, especially no compromise for video.. 6k raw 60 P full frame.. is almost 3 times the price yes .. but is almost a definitive camera and future proof.. and allows for me the best quality wise system whoch is 6k that is easily scaled to 8k without loss... and also in 4k is just amazing... sony should have rais its bar... but no no 6k at all no raw.. and i am referring to FX6 especially a camare that could have had it all.. instead... not intresting.. the only camere that i would buy would be the A7sIII, here i can see innovation and a good product.. but the rest is just to minimal upgrade.. Love the canon and as soon i will gather money i will jump to their eco system even if i am a sony entusiast...

    I've already pre-ordered my A7iv. (I'm at the front of the line at a major local camera shop. Heehee.)
    Personally, I think the benefits and the positives outweigh what others consider to be shortcomings. Or I consider them to have workarounds to overcome them. Until the A7iv is released, I can never watch enough A7iv videos. So, thank you for this.

    I believe the crop in 4K/60 is because the sensor read out speed, at this price point, is too slow to read the entire space of the sensor for 60FPS. This is where of a lot of the added cost of the 7SIII/FX3/A1 comes from, the higher read speed sensor. This is also why the rolling shutter is an issue with this camera and not so much on the higher end bodies. This concept is the same for distorted silent shooting for fast moving subjects. By the time the sensor reads from top to bottom, the subject has moved in the frame.

    Very solid content as usual. As I have not shot a lot of video, but hope to, I still get dizzy with all the codecs, bit rates, LUTs, and color grading. Maybe you have a video that breaks all that down? Or maybe know one. But nevertheless this vidio reinforces my confidence in my A7iv decision. And the A7Cii just came out and I still think this is the better choice for me. Thanks for all your great content!

    I am surprised that you missed the most important improvement, that of video focusing and tracking. The A7 IV is ahead of the A7c who is ahead of the A7iii. The user's control of how fast it tracks moving objects and people and how sticky you can make it, is the main reason most people are upgrading. And this is an area that demand fast processors (Like the A1). THAT is where the processing power went in case you still wonder :)

    as an aspiring content creator, this was such a useful video. I was stuck on the A7C or A7IV as a first serious workhorse camera. Knowing that the image quality between the a7c/a7siii vs the a7iv isn't much different, there isn't much incentive for me to get the a7iv, other than getting it for the video capabilities. That being said, i really should try out the a7c, invest the leftover money on some quality glass and in the future, upgrade to the a7iv instead of the a7siii for its video capabilities since it is much cheaper and still a pretty good video camera. Thanks for this video. I'll still go to my local camera shop and rent out these equipment to get a feel for the camera.
    Love this indepth review man.

    Great video! One question though; in your comparison photos of the lake/ mountain, the a73 showed ripples on the water and the a74 there weren't many and just looked smoother; was it a difference in camera or just timing of the shot?

    • @dunnadidit
      @dunnadidit  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most likely just the timing of the shot. Took me a bit to swap out the cameras and the lens and such so that they’d all be in the same place and with the same lens.

      @@dunnadidit Ha ha... I do know peope here who have been using Sony cameras, so it should be up to the task. I haven't bought a camera in many, many years and have been looking to see what the current models are like. A few years ago I was editing some footage from a variety of cameras and one in particular had a particularly nice image so I asked which camera that was and was surprised when they told me it was a Sony. Sony used to have a real problem with clipping around high-contrast areas, but now the image is so clean. A little concerned about the rolling shutter, though. Does that lessen when not shooting 4K?

  • @curtisspencer

    I have an a6400 and find that I am missing some shots by using non-stabilized lenses (tamron 11-20 f2.8 and Sony 16-55 f2.8). My question is about selling this gear and upgrading to a body with IBIS. I really only shoot photos so am not concerned with video features. With the Sony a7iv being out, it seems like there are some great deals to be had on used versions of the a7iii so I was wondering if a used a7iii would be the best way to jump up to full frame, or if the a7iv is worth the extra money. I've seen really clean a7iii bodies going for around $2000 CAD which is a massive savings over the a7iv when you factor in taxes. Thanks for all the awesome videos!

    • @MusaaJames
      @MusaaJames 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that anything you use will be an upgrade over the 6400 when it comes to moving up to full frame the a7iii takes insane photos, the a7riii also takes insane photos and it has that 40 something megapixel sensor which is wild and also puts it in about the same photo range as the new a7iv with its 33 mp sensor so if you’re trying to get close to the a7iv get the a7riii it’s around 2400 used RN at least that’s what the one I saw today at Best Buy was selling for

And I even struggle with the screen on my iPhone sometimes so I’m going to be in a world of hurt if I go with the C. Sounds to me like it’s going to be worth the jump in price just so I don’t drive myself crazy

    I intended to buy a Sony a7IV, but on the store's website there were many who mentioned that they were returning because overheating.
    2 buyers mentioned that although they set Temp. to high, the camera stopped after 8 minutes of filming. Both strangely mentioned the same value 8 minutes. (In Europe)
    Another said that overheating occurred when he was setting up the camera for the first time. It didn't even let him set the camera.
    Can the camera record 4K 24 fps for 8 minutes or an hour? Could it be from slow V30 or V60 SD memory cards? Do SFexpress cards solve the problem?
    Everything seems superlative, but 2500 $ for 8 minutes is not worth it.
    Thank you!

    To me it is a big upgrade to a7III/a7c. But my situation is I am always bring and use 2 cameras for my video shoot. My a7III and a7c works seamlessly together. For wedding if we have second shooter, then we have like 4, 5 cameras. It is kind pointless for one camera has 10bit 422 shooting slog3 and rest of cameras still shoot 8bit 420 in cine2 or hlg. I would say if one has a7sIII and want a second camera is less expensive than a7sIII but still retain all the codec, then this is the great option. But for me until I can afford two a74, I will still stick to my current camera set up.
