    I'm so glad I found these videos and your channel in general, Alfons. I have Feldenkrais' Awareness Through Movement book, but wasn't inspired to attempt the exercises when I had to flip back and forth between the book and what I was doing. I much prefer listening and following along to guided instruction, so if it weren't for your videos, I would never have had the opportunity to really dive in and experience all that these lessons have to offer.
    This series was my first real introduction to the FELDENKRAIS METHOD OF SOMATIC EDUCATION TM ;D and it isn't too much to say that the discovery has changed my life. I have chronic lower back pain from a decade-old compression fracture injury and bit by bit years of tension and frustration held throughout my body are being released through slow, gentle, attentive movements requiring so little effort and having such significant after-effects as to be considered miraculous - were the method itself not so far removed from any kind of mental trickery or placebo.
    Thank you for what you've done with this series and for what you continue to give to the world through your videos, Alfons. They're an invaluable resource that I'm constantly grateful for. There's nowhere in my city to practice this sort of thing, nor is it something I could even afford if there were. I look forward to whatever you come up with next, but I'll always be happy to have found all of this.
    Thanks also for your excitement, interest in the scientific background of this work and excellent sense of humour :D

    Alfons I have been following your videos for years but never able to comment before. I am 68 and I have Ehlers- Danlos Syndrome. 8 years ago I was offered a bath hoist , a stairlift and an electric wheelchair. I asked for some type of physical therapy help but was told there was no point. At that stage I could not lift my legs up high enough to put my boots on or get up from a chair.
    Now 8 years older I am stronger and more balanced than ever and despite many serious injuries and subluxations i persevere to walk well every day thanks to your wonderful work. I wish I could visit for some lessons on specific problems ( I have a tear in my hip socket lining which is agony and causing loss of freedom of movement and contraction from fear of pain) but all other parts and my enjoyment and spirit to participate in your great lessons is increasing every day. If you have Patron I would contribute. Great work. Thankyou from the dark wet lonely lockdown Lancashire uk

    Hello Alfons. I was first introduced to Feldenkreis two years ago by a Pilates instructor and immediately knew it was for me. Then I discovered your videos. I've been doing your series daily, discovering new things about my body, and then one evening chest muscles that have been contracted for years started letting go. Simple and magic transformation. I feel lighter and happier. I want to thank you for all your great job and willingness to share your knowledge. You spread good around the world. Thank you!

    Alfons, 5 weeks ago, I tripped on a curb and collided with a concrete sidewalk, fracturing my femur. As soon as I could get down (and up from) the floor I began doing the #4 hip lesson, twice a day. Within three days the residual of discomfort left me and I could walk without wincing or limping -and without a cane. The Feldenkrais Method is life changing, that’s for sure. A million thanks for your work in getting this out to the public.

    Hi Alfons, I understand what you said about this not being a medical institution and that you aren't a doctor. And I don't expect 'the' answers to all questions, but I think people turn to people like you for answers because they have have already been to physiotherapists, doctors, and various 'experts' and didn't receive the help they needed. That doesn't mean you are responsible for the health of others, but I just wanted to give you this feedback, because I would trust your advice more than many others, simply because you are helping people to learn for themselves (which helps everyone), and not just giving information for people to consume (which might be right for some, but not for others).

    awesome video... as a physiotherapist, martial arts practitioner and bodybuilder i really appreciate your approach to movement. too often we get lost in the paradigm of our specific field of practice and forget that movement combined with awareness despite how minute and subtle the movements seem to be provide new avenues of healing. i came across feldenkrais through a book but did not understand any of it despite having felt i stumbled onto something great akin to gold. thank you so much for the work you are doing!!!!

    Just discovered you today, 8 years of physiotherapy but functional abilities and in turn pain getting worse, I have been trying to articulate what is going on to doctors and physios and I say that I am like a machine that is not moving efficiently, I think you said 'organisation of movements' and this is what I am after. I cannot do strenghtening physio on a body that is moving in a apinful/inefficient way. Frist, organise my movements. I feel a sense of hope today.

    Hi Alfons, I completed the getting better day by day series several days ago and decided to revisit the entire series as my perception has probably changed over the years. Great movements and I love your genuineness and lightheartedness. Do you have a lesson on the side sitting twist you briefly demonstrate in this video? I am a yoga teacher for 26 years and discovered you and Feldenkrais 6 years and it has changed by life. Thank you for your amazing lessons. I look forward to haring from you regarding the side sitting twist. Have a super day and thanks for sharing movements and wisdom with all of us. .

    Good afternoon Alfons. Great amount of vids to work through. Keep up the great work! I've just recently come across the book "Somatic by Thomas Hanna" which I'm just about to start read to start the flow. I wanted to know if you have any exercises to correct the basic standing posture? As I had a slipped disc in my lumber area and due to it my posture has changed, where when I now stand my hips lean to the right and when standing for a short time on the spot I tend to pop my right leg out in front at an angle. Would you have anything I could watch and practice daily to correct my posture?

    Hi I just wanna make sure you know exactly what I mean by tracking progress since I was very unclear as to what I meant. I’ve been reading about meditation and want to get started with it and I’m curious about the effect meditation has on your ability to stay in the present moment without drifting off into daydreaming or thinking without knowing that you’re thinking. And I considered running a little experiment where I meditate as usual but I’d have a pen and paper infront of me so that whenever id notice myself lost in thought I’d make a dash on the paper and add them up at the end of each meditation. Of course it will vary greatly from day to day and even week to week and won’t be very linear of an improvement so I wouldn’t be paying it any attention in the shorter timeframes but I would maybe take a 6 monthly or yearly average of my ability to stay present. It would be very simple to track as I would just dash a piece of paper in front of me without even the need to open my eyes. But this idea is far less important to me then the quality of the meditation so if you know any reason why the practice will be negatively effected by this I’ll just dismiss with the idea. As it’s far less important. The reason for this experiment is partially curiosity and is partially OCD about wanting to see some kind of results over the very long term. But if it could interfere with the practice then it isn’t worth it

    • @ImprovingAbility
      @ImprovingAbility  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tom, just follow through with this intro series of Getting better day by day, will spare you years of meditation, because by the end of the series (9 lessons, something like a 6 hours investment) you will be much better at staying in the present moment without drifting off, plus all your daily movements will have improved. It will not interfere with your meditation practice.

      Yes do this series first, then continue to the hip series. If you do it slowly and small enough it will help like nothing else. You will need a total of 10-15 hours but please understand that you’re undoing years of tension and habits. And it’s a small investment compared with medical interventions or more conventional interventions. I wish you a good time exploring and please enjoy that “me-time” 😁
