    Believe I'd use a single rear axle from a rear end (on day horizontal mill anyways) to stack the spacers & cutters on (independent for axel only or conventional rear end, trimmed down of course, if utilizing the bearings, brakes & supporting structures)...should have nice splines, flange + compatible gears & a structure to house it all.
    endless config options but most importantly it's pre-built & precise...not to mention plenty tough & standard size replacement parts can be had (priceless when its time to replace parts on such homebuilt equipment ;).
    just some thought I've put into potential upcoming builds of my own...am going to watch all you have & hopefully there's a video on that lathe you're using (even if its a just a post-build overview with some design explanation/philosophy)...thanks for sharing your work with us, sir.

    How do you anchor the all thrad that fits inside the pipes? Is it threaded into the base plate, or is it welded, or is it through bolted? Rather see this connection vs. minutes of watching the lathe work fabricting the collars

    Looks like a great project. Perhaps it a good idea to fill that square column with sand.

      I would choose concrete. Al the heat might warp things.
      However, sand might dampen things just like a dead blow hammer.

    How much weight can you put on the ball bearing at the bottom of the threaded rod? Otherwise, it's looking good! I'm guessing that you cast the handwheel, which looks perfect in the video.

    • @Homemadelathemachine

      Milling machine for metal will be without CNC. Electronics for machines of this type are not cheap. In the future I plan to make a small milling machine for wood. Electronic components for machine small size with an affordable price.

      @1pcfred 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Homemade lathe machine yeah finding cheap stepper motors is not easy. There's a guy on TH-cam that makes his own encoders, and uses any old motor with them. Check HomoFaciens CNC video series out. His setup can definitely be the cheap way to go.

      Шукайте на металоломах і на розборках. Не обов'язково від мотоцикла, штоки гідроциліндрів також підійдуть. Можна з автомобільних стійок штоки витягнути, але вони діаметром 20-22мм. У мене один шток був рівний а другий деформований, я його вирівняв.

    What I do not understand is why you used 4 small square tubes to make up a large square column. You could just as easily used surplus/scrap heavy wall square tube or rectangular tube to make the central column. So what gives, why introduce possible warpage from welding when you could use cold rolled tubing which usually has dimensional accuracy to within plus or minus 3 thousandth of an inch?

    • @ellieprice3396
      @ellieprice3396 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Probably used square tubing because that's what he had a lot of.

      @m.s.l.7746 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I-beam or H-beam with gussets at key points would be great too, but these four sections of 2" ²tubing are far stiffer than one hollow section of 4". Plus the welding could be done in a way to add "positive camber" or just evenly to tension the mild steel so that it behaves more like a harder grade.
