- Homemade Lathe From Scrap Metal
I used SBR20 linear rails, 2x 1000mm, 2x 600mm and 2x 300mm long
I made this lathe just for some basic turning nothing too precise.
Dimensions of metal beams are 120x200x1400mm, machine is 400mm wide, also i mount 200mm 3 jaw chuck

Excelente trabajo!!! Muchas gracias!!!
Good work, you can be proud of your work, looks nice.
Good job making it work with what you can afford or salvage! Kudos!
Making it happen!!!! :)
Nice job. We shared this video on our homemade tools forum this week 😎
Excellent
Those are some good pieces of "scrap" metal✌️😂🤣💚🇬🇧🌱
Well done 👏 ,it's a commendable skill
Nice, but Maybe finish up all welding? 🤔Seems to be tacked at some places, it could be much more stable when welding it up
Great thinking outside the box
Show de bola ⚽️muito bom 👍👍👍👍👍
Sempurna ! Saya sangat menyukainya !!!😍
Very well thought out, designed and put together. You made it so anyone can make one. I'm curious though, do you ever plan on making plans available?
Svaka ti cast!
Be proud of your lathe!
Veoma dobro odradeno! Pohvale mladom gospodinu!
"Very well done! Kudos to the young gentleman!"
welldone,
im impressed
👍👍👍
bravo majstore,pozz iz Slovenije
Dear Sir, thanks for showing snippets of your lathe build. Excellent job. I liked the way you produced a headstock shaft with a bore, not solid.
Do you happen to have plans…
a) For further development like motorising drives and
b) Actual plans for making another model of your design?
Great job
Impressive!
Svaka čast
Is very good
Good 👍
You are awesome!
nice work
That's impressive my dude! Love it... I'll have to check it out in person ;)
Sure, naleti kad god hoces! :)
Interesting project but using pillow box bearings could be a problem they are totally inaccurate. Too much slop in that type of bearing should use a pair of angular contact ball bearings 72xx be type works for me!
Good point……he does have a Precise lathe for close tolerance work so it doesn’t matter this is just a video not a do the build like this or else!
@@scor440 I can't stop laughing due to your comment 😂👍
Saludos
Parabéns ficou show de bola 👏👏👏👏👏
Estes trilhos, onde consigo comprar? Lojas etc.
Very nice
TOP PARABENS
what is the name of the aluminum elbow for the sliding rail? and where to buy it? You made it very well. thanks.
Super 👍👍👍👏👏👏🇵🇱
Bravooo e super strungul
Good Work. Much better quality can be achieved using couple of tapper roller bearings in head stock!!
Muito bom
Where did you buy the ways? How do you lock the tool carriage down?
Respect
support to you friend
Good
What is the purpose of the smaller (300mm) rails? Why it is not enough to have longer (lower) rails in left/right direction?
Hi, purpose of the smaller rail set is for making cone and other stuff under some angle, whole plate with rails rotates around bolt in middle. Also so i can adjust paralelnes of machine. Thank you for watching! 😁
Maybe he did use some new parts but, what he did was really quite impressive.
Very good
Buy tabriz lath machine
This is the best machine factory in the world
Iranian lath machine are best
AND SUCH A HOME-MADE MACHINE CAN BE MUCH MORE THAN MANY PURCHASED. I KNOW FROM EXPERIENCE
Boa tarde) vc faz desse torno pra vender? Valor????
So washing machine motor powers this? So household voltage?
Congratulations!!! That is a very beautifully built machine.
Hello! What kind of bearings?
Really a nice job. All the right pieces including some that were not scrap. Very rigid. Two things we almost never see in this kind of DIY project: cost and precision. It would be very interesting to see the money spent on scrap metal and purchase parts, separated. Test precision by placing a ground round bar between centers and run a test indicator down the bar once along the top and again along the side.
You always wonder ! What costs More !??
Hello, total cost was around 600-700$ Chuck was 150$, rails around 250$, pulley around 25$ each and steel parts at scrapyard 150$ and a lot of screws... Best option for sure is to buy regular lathe😅 but i have realy small workshop and i dont need too high presition for my projects. Also regular cheapest normal sized lathe in my country is anywhere from 3000 to 5000$😅😅 Also thank you for commeting have an nice day!

🔵 { O mankind, worship your Lord, who created you and those before you, that you may become righteous - ( 2:21 )
🔴 [He] who made for you the earth a bed [spread out] and the sky a ceiling and sent down from the sky, rain and brought forth thereby fruits as provision for you. So do not attribute to Allah equals while you know [that there is nothing similar to Him]. ( 2:22 )
🔵 And if you are in doubt about what We have sent down upon Our Servant [Muhammad], then produce a surah the like thereof and call upon your witnesses other than Allah, if you should be truthful. ( 2:23 )
🔴 But if you do not - and you will never be able to - then fear the Fire, whose fuel is men and stones, prepared for the disbelievers.( 2:24 )
🔵 And give good tidings to those who believe and do righteous deeds that they will have gardens [in Paradise] beneath which rivers flow. Whenever they are provided with a provision of fruit therefrom, they will say, "This is what we were provided with before." And it is given to them in likeness. And they will have therein purified spouses, and they will abide therein eternally. ( 2:25 )

Yeah, right - "scrap" metal - shiny rollers and guides from China.
Yeah? What, you want him fabricating linear rails himself?
@user-cg3em4cw4f No, just get quality stuff from Japsn, Korea, or the USA, which actually is built to specification and won't make a mess of his jobs.
@@dnomyarnostaw Ah, I took it as one of those comments complaining that technically the rollers weren't scrap. My bad, definitely true.
Indeed scrap metal 😂
Ukuruan panjang dan lebar jarak nya berapa ? Mohon di jawab terimakasih
so where did you find scrap rails and screws?
And Welder ! / Rod ! Too ??
Assalamu alaykum very good
Convert into...CNC
this lathe need tailstock)
They told me that this system is not good as a lathe but only as a cnc. Working with steel it is very easy for everything to break because it has no cutting power and the system is destined to last very little as well as not being safe for safety. I am trying to partially replicate your project but everyone is not recommending it to me. Do you have any work that is a bit more strenuous in order to appreciate that everything works fine? Thank you in advance :)
Sounds like the factors you are discussing are rigidity and dampening. Yes, this type design would have poor dampening. However it lends itself to be epoxy granite filled which will solve that. Secondly is the cross slide. This setup will have limitations on the depth of cut you can take. You will need to be weary of tool pressure. Other ideas to improve rigidity would be square linear rails, 30-35mm would likely do or even better yet box ways but this requires a way to precision grind and/or scrape.
Scrap huh, what is that about $5000 worth of scrap.if I had that kind of scrap I’d just go buy new lathe’s
Great video, disappointing that you say made from scrap but then you stick brand new inline rails on there.
Why so many dislikes? You done a great job mate
What's the precision of your lathe?
