Planning my fifth trip to beautiful Italy next May. I've been refreshing my terrible Italian and stumbled across some of your videos. If your goal was to educate...done. if your goal was to entertain...goal achieved. If you're goal was to have me fall in love with you...TRIFECTA!!! You come across as intelligent, engaging, and just adorable. Can't wait to check out your other videos. Bravissima!!!
Kylie, I have been self studying italian for many months now and keep going back to this video. It is so helpful, and I especially love the 'dialogue' section where the viewer gets to respond. If you ever have time, please consider making more videos like this -- learning about not only how to say things but the culture behind them is so amazing!!
You definitely teach the language how it should be taught, unlike many textbooks. Whoever is trying to learn some Italian will do well watching you, as it is exactly what they need to know when in Italy.
The coffee, the language, the atmosphere a Firenze -- tutto bello. But I also really love your style, mainly because it is so literary and romantic and reminds me of Meryl Streep in Out of Africa, or Vita Sackville-West, or Audrey Hepburn. Tu porti un po 'di bellezza al mio giorno. Grazie.
Hi Kylie, this is a great video! Thank you. I must say, having spent a lot of money studying Italian F/T at language school, I learned more in your 30 minute video, than in many days spent in the classroom. What a simple, elegant and highly practical way to introduce and explain the congiuntivo and condizionale. Grazie tante, sei il migliore
Kylie, You are definitely right about kindness and manners. I am living in foreign country Montenegro since 2018. I do not speak their language but have met many Montenegrins who speak English and apprciate when I say. Hvala, thank you, Dobro Jutro, good morning, Dobra Dan good day, Dobra Vece, good evening. The people here are very nice and helpful. I feel very comfortable.
When I was in Florence I stopped on my way to class at one of the bars you filmed in, and a bird wandered in and just hung out on the floor in front of the bar for a while. Little things like that that wouldn’t happen in America are so chill in other places.
In the US in the South, crows, pigeons(in cities only), morning doves, and squirrels can be seen frequently everywhere. Today, here in Florida at the coffee shop, a lizard was staring at me and the bees sat on the flowers.
The intro to this video could easily be a trailer to some big action movie. This is one of the most informative videos for basic ordering and protocol in italy, I've looked for this type of content and there is not much out there, so thank you!
Grazie, Kylie! Your videos are beyond compare! As a retired teacher, (dreaming of moving to Italy about one year from now), I appreciate your patience, and the obvious time and effort you have put into this and all of your videos! I'm a native English speaker, rather fluent in Spanish which I studied in the 80s and 90s. So Spanish is helping me a lot! Viva Italia!
Cara Kylie. Over the years, I've had this dream of becoming a language teacher, but my confidence ( or lack of) always gets in the way. This video was a stark reminder of how much fun it is to both learn and teach a language. Words turn into sentences, communication turns into conversation and it's liberating. It is truly joyous to be able to speak a second language and, over time, have that language become part of your soul. This lovely video came at precisely the right time. Thank you for reminding me of that dream.
This is amazing. I will never forget when I was in high school 10 years ago and went to Italy. I was in Florence and going into a coffee shop was crazy! There was a rush of people and somehow you order, pay, and then get the drink. It was very different. They saw some of my friends as Americans and almost right away ignored them so it got to the point where I had to order in Spanish and they took that way better than speaking English. Soon I hope to go back!
beautiful and smart, Modest, you turn ordinary things into special things, your positive energy comes from my phone to my heart. you keep going. hope to see you if ever i am in italy. love you
I am living for the shots of this bar! I love your eye behind the camera, and how you always seem to know just the right angle and shot to invoke a particular mood. This bar is absolutely beautiful, and this video is such a nice break from the drudgery of lockdown and quarantine. Thank you for making such beautiful videos!
Erica, I am Brazilian and worked in Australia for few months and I realized the same, good coffee in every corner! I was feeling in Italy drinking a real and good coffee! Congrats to Australia!
Dearest Kylie, it is true manners, respect and politeness are incredibly important both when traveling and within our own communities. It is one of the aspects in why I long to return to Italia to live. Thank you for a wonderful video! Forse un giorno, presto, sarò abbastanza sicuro di poter scrivere un comments come questo in italiano. Grazie Lei!
Thanks for your response Kylie. I'm going to everything in my power to try and get an exemption as I would love to be in Italy at least by March 2021. I really hope that Italy can get those numbers of the virus down though and since they did it last time I'm hoping that get it back in control again. Look forward to watching your You tube videos. Stay safe.
Thank you Kylie! I was in Milan last year and wanted to order a coffee...just by looking at all the options, I was so intimidated, that I just went without it. I learned much today! Grazie!🥰
On point and I'm up to date with ordering coffee now. Brilliant video you have shown us. Kylie your the gold standard young lady. Absolutely nothing can compare to your talent and inspiration to so many people. Thanks for sharing this with us that watch your channel. Well done young lady. Thanks
I love this kind of videos. I love Italy and I've been trying to learn the language by myself for years now. It was amazing when I was saying the last phrase at the same time than you. I was thinking how beautiful it is that I, a mexican spanish speaker currently living in Mexico, and you, a australian english speaker currently living in Italy were saying the same phrase in italian. I mean thirty years ago who would ever thought about this being possible? Thank god for the internet and thank you for making these amazing (and very useful) videos.
I swear this is the most helpful Italian learning video ever! I screenshoted every phrase! So many videos on youtube teach you how to order coffee the ”tourist way” 🤣 thank you so much!♥️🙏🏻
Agree, I can’t be bothered to learn Italian in traditional ways, and normally just pick it up, (I live in Italy) however this is most palatable. Thank you Kylie x
Thank you Kylie, I can't wait to show off my new Italian with my dear friend when I visit him ! I would also love a video about phrases that will help me to be more respectful, I would love to turn those moments of miscommunication into something more sweet ☺️✨
OMG Kylie this reminds me so much of my childhood holidays in Rome going to a bar every morning they didn't even ask if I wanted a glass of water while my Mamma had coffee. I miss Rome so much.
You must have befriended the owners of Gilli and convinced them to let you in to film while they were closed! It's usually cram packed! I'm sighing thinking of the candied chestnuts and the sugared rose petals I used to love getting from there! More videos like this, please! Wonderful!
Absolutely loved this video! The intro is soo beautiful, it made me want to hop on a plane to Italy at once! Also love that you take on the different questions one might get asked at the counter when ordering and also how to respond. Exactly what one would need to order a coffee in Italy
Love your content! hopefully I'll go to Italy to study as an exchange student next fall and I just wanted to say that your videos really help, fills me with hope :)
Kylie, I'm so glad I've discovered your videos. It's wonderful to see Florence today, I've whiled away many a happy hour in Gilli. I'm an art historian (18C Venetian art) and work in the cultural sector in Qatar ... I've been deprived of my visits to Italy and the South of France this year because of the pandemic so your videos are making such a difference right now. You can't imagine how lovely it is to watch your beautifully curated films. Warmest wishes to you!
Kylie, once again, your thoughtful slow motion filming and editing captures Italy so beautifully. Every one of your videos brings me so much joy! Love from VA 💚🤍❤️
I absolutely loooved this video. What should have taken 38 minutes took me an hour and a half because I took the time to practice over and over again. Thank you for your time, creativity and sharing your love of Italy with those of us who love it as well just can’t get there, yet!
not planning on visiting Italy any time soon but i love these lessons non the less. and i totally agree with you as to manners, especially when you are in a foreign country. it shows people you respect their culture and are not just another careless tourist. i live in another latin country and i feel that learning all those polite phrases and litlle words have helped me to integrate here.
Kylie really enjoyed your video which I stumbled on by accident, I worked all over Italy for a number of years. Totally fell in love with Italy and it’s people from the first visit, and believe me I have seen the good and bad of both as a resident. I made a conscious effort to learn to understand the language as best as I could at the time, and your comments around trying to understand even one word in a sentence to build on in the next encounter are so true, It’s amazing what you can do with such limited vocabulary, a good intent and as you point out good manners and politeness. The general level of civility in everyday transactions is just wonderful and I have witnessed the evident disappointment when tourists don’t understand the “norms” of behaviour expected. I often now watch Recipe videos in Italian and can only sometimes think of Italian words for items, Might start to watch your videos and get back into learning everyday Italian again such a pretty language.
Grazie Kylie! I loved this language lesson. I have been working on my pronunciation of double consonants and you explained it so beautifully that it makes perfect sense now. Every weekend is now a quick little getaway to my beloved Italy. The shots of Florence and beautiful Arno River were stunning. Grazie!
Oh yes ! You have to be very careful when pronouncing words with double consonants. If it is pronounced with only one consonant, a whole other word often comes out ! And this could be very embarrassing at times ! I am an Italian teacher and I teach Italian here in Germany to the Germans and I always say to be very careful about these things. Ciao e tanti auguri ! 😉
I just wanted to drop in and say….I put your Italian learning videos on repeat two months before my first trip to Italy to see family I hadn’t met yet with my mother. 😅 This along with the other studies helped SO MUCH. These videos truly prepare you for everyday instead of the junk the apps and other lessons teach you. I had to speak for both my mother and I the whole trip. I had NO trouble asking for directions, taking the train, taxi, ordering and general conversation. In fact I was complimented the whole trip on my Italian. THANK YOU!!
This is funny. This is my first week in Italy and went into the first bakery shop that spoke no English. I proceeded to order by pointing and saying “una” for just one piece. We both kept smiling because we knew we didn’t understand each other but still completed the order. And now I’m in my hotel snd I come across your video after that situation. Thank you I can’t wait to order a coffee tmrw!!
Searching for a long time...so far, this is the best Italian lesson I ever found👍👍👍Thank you so much for your detailed explanation! Can’t wait to learn more from your videos😃😃😃
I just love watching your videos. They are so relaxing and entertaining. I also love watching your cooking videos. You're amazing how you can cook, paint, take care of a baby, a husband and renovate all at the same time. Looking forward to your next video. BTW love this video content for lessons in italian!!!
Kylie, I have enrolled in an online class to learn to speak Italian, thank you for influencing us in indulging in such a beautiful language and culture. My son Lorenzo took us (family) to Florence in January, we actually stopped in at that Cafe! He speaks Italian so it was very helpful, now I want to be able to speak Italian and use it on our next visit! He also loves Italy as he has fortunately been able to visit while doing Modeling shoots. Thank you for your commitment to such great works that we may enjoy and learn from!
Yes, manners are so important, especially now during these crazy times. So important to be respectful and kind. Sometimes it feels that the world has forgotten this but we still believe that people are inherently good. Thanks for reminding us Kylie and for the Italian lesson. Very helpful.
Kylie, Sending you all love, and thank you for the latest video. I am taking time to learn abit. being a visual person, the combination of your presence, the writing and images really makes it natural for me to learn otherwise I am just unable to absorb. I love your naural reactions to being healthy ..Thats the best part when you teach is the personal connections made by getting to know someone .❤❤😊
I'm definitely going to give that book a try. Words and manners matter more than we think! And now for some reason I'm craving for something sweet and a coffee 😄
I love to watch your videos when I have breakfast. The Italian language sounds very similar to Argentine Castilian but it is so different when written! beautiful video like always. Greetings from Argentina ❤🇦🇷
It’s the most beautiful, fascinating, yummy, thoughtful, and elegant linguistic and cultural lessons I’ve learned in my life 🙌🏻 Kylie our Queen 👸 can’t thank you enough for what you do for us your TH-cam family 🙏🙏🙏🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻❤️❤️🇮🇹
I really liked your video. You are so right about manners. My wife and I are in our sixties. It is so important to show respect for other cultures when you are visiting another country, and making a strong attempt at the language and complying with local customs is the best way to show that respect. We will be in Calabria in August. Non vedo l'ora provare parlare Italiano.
Loved it Kylie, and excellent choice for doing a language lesson centered on a theme, particularly how common the coffee/cafe culture is global and particularly how beautiful and important in Italian culture. I remember being on holiday a few years ago in a small village outside Rome, and while not as glamorous as the Bar you were in Florence, the morning ritual of caffe and cornetti was enjoyable experience. I didn't speak any Italian at the time and the barista didn't speak any English, but she was very patient with us and knew our order after a few days. It still remains one of my fondest memories of that holiday. I saved your video to watch again and again to practice!
I have just discovered your site and watched one of your first posts when you first arrived in Italy. You have certainly come a long way and are such an example of how dreams can come true if you are patient and persistent. Well done!
Your video promotions are elegant and show Italy at its best. They are simply awesome! I’ve been to Italy but would have done/seen more if I had known of your utubes sooner. Love your promotions. Tourism should hire you.
I loveee what you do Kylie!! It's as if everytime I watch your videos, I watch a cinematographic masterpiece. I always feel as if i'm in the same room when I watch. Thanks Kylie!
This is excellent advice and quite inspirational ! I came across Kylie's channel a couple of weeks ago as I am currently learning Italian and I have found the videos more than helpful - what a pity I did not discover the channel earlier. An really high quality standard of presentation and audio which makes such a hugely refreshing change to some of the other material which is often posted. Thank you Kylie and keep up the fantastic work!!!
The coffee experience is definitely one of my favourite things about Italy. I was blown away that, even at gas station along the highway, there was still a full coffee bar with the same quality you'd expect in Rome or Florence. And you're right Kylie, manners go very far in building rapport. When I stayed in Rome a few years ago, my closest bar was a place called Materia. I got my morning caffè there each day and after only three mornings I was already feeling like a regular.
Actually, coffee at the service station along the highway is probably the best, as they literally make thousands a day, and the more they make the better it gets. Also, as they are open 24/7 they get the cornetti fresh out of the oven from the bakery. Yum!
In Italy it's not just the coffee, but every little detail and pretty much everything that's usually of the highest quality. If you ask for an orange juice, you don't get something out of a carton made of concentrate, but you watch as the barista squeezes real oranges then and there (which is why one should not ask for spremuta d'arancia in the summer, seeing as oranges are out of season then).
Buonasera Kylie! Thank you for showing one more time beautiful places from Italy. Thank for this amazing lesson. I bought a notebook for copy italian vocabulary from your videos, thank you so much!!! Have a lovely week!!!
Quando riesci a capire i mille modi per ordinare un caffe e fare colazione in Italia sei già a buon punto per capire lo stile Italiano.....poi tu sei fantastica
I love this. I have been in these situations many times in the past and I wish your video had already existed then. Your videos also are beautifully made, you really are talented 👍🏻
Oooh I would love a video on manners and what to say, how to say - great idea Kylie, love your work - and yes, I was thinking the other day about how society is fast becoming cheap... The other day mum got a phone number written by an elderly lady's husband, mum was overwhelmed by how beautifully the numbers were written... we're losing the old ways and you're restoring them, thank you!x
This woman feels lucky to live here, but actually Italy's the lucky one.
Brava!
In my humble opinion the Italian Board of Tourism should be paying you for your beautiful promotion of Italy and Italian culture. Your videos are on par with Italy’s finest works of art. You are a class act Ms. Flavell.💐.....and yes, manners matter.

Kylie have you considered doing just an Italian language tutorial series? I think it would be a resounding success. Your work is wonderful.
I'm Italian and this video makes me feel good. Your Italian is very good. This is how foreigners should order coffee here in Italy.
The photography in this video is absolutely sublime!

So thoughtful of you, to teach us in such a beautiful cinematic way. ❣️
I’ve been living here for 10 months now. Learning everyday. It’s not so easy but getting there, piano piano. Grazie per questo video.
Kylie, yes, you are right!!! You have loads of grace and beauty. It is a joy to watch what you do. Keep up the good work.
I just wanted to drop in and say….I put your Italian learning videos on repeat two months before my first trip to Italy to see family I hadn’t met yet with my mother. 😅
This along with the other studies helped SO MUCH.
THANK YOU!!
This comment makes me SO happy! Thank you! It’s the best feeling in the world when you make progress with a language!
I listened to this again. I love the way you emphasize the pronunciation. grazie mille. very helpful.
Veramente, tu sei meravigliosa Kylie! You have taught and inspired me so much ❤️
I just love watching your videos. They are so relaxing and entertaining. I also love watching your cooking videos. You're amazing how you can cook, paint, take care of a baby, a husband and renovate all at the same time. Looking forward to your next video. BTW love this video content for lessons in italian!!!
Awesome. I really did learned a little here. Amazing!!!
This is a great video ; extremely helpful for tourist .Thank you .
You just polished my Italian 😄
You’re gorgeous👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
One thousand percent on manners no one how to be polite these days Thank you
It is wonderful to see genuine etiquette. 👍💐❤
“Don't cry for me Argentina”....😉 Un saluto dall’Italia ! ✋️ I have relatives there in Argentina.
It's so fun to learn Italian with such beautiful visuals as we dream of hopefully moving to italy
It’s the most beautiful, fascinating, yummy, thoughtful, and elegant linguistic and cultural lessons I’ve learned in my life 🙌🏻
Kylie our Queen 👸 can’t thank you enough for what you do for us your TH-cam family 🙏🙏🙏🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻❤️❤️🇮🇹
🤗🤗🤗
I really liked your video. You are so right about manners. My wife and I are in our sixties. It is so important to show respect for other cultures when you are visiting another country, and making a strong attempt at the language and complying with local customs is the best way to show that respect. We will be in Calabria in August. Non vedo l'ora provare parlare Italiano.
Very useful. Loved it ! Grazie! Merci!
😊😊😊😊😊 Lovely memory. Thank you for watching, Dave
Your Italian accent is quite good. Complimenti!
Hi Kylie!!! It relaxes me whenever I watch your video. I wish I can visit Italy someday. My favorite breakfast ever, croissants & cafe au lait! ❤️
Thank you for the Italian lesson. Much appreciated. And yes manners are so important. Good manner make a person be so delightful to be around.
🤗🤗🤗🤗
A perfect watch for a friday night in lockdown, thank you beautiful soul 🤗♥️
This is excellent advice and quite inspirational ! I came across Kylie's channel a couple of weeks ago as I am currently learning Italian and I have found the videos more than helpful - what a pity I did not discover the channel earlier. An really high quality standard of presentation and audio which makes such a hugely refreshing change to some of the other material which is often posted. Thank you Kylie and keep up the fantastic work!!!
I love your approach..being gracious makes an experience richer..
Yum!
Yes we take coffee seriously.
Oh lovely! I always feel I’m much more motivated and dedicated with my study with a beautiful notebook.
You are an excellent teacher, thank you! I appreciate all of the detail.
Such elegant, classy, simple to understand video. Kudos!!!
Oh you’re right - I can barely even remember when people would write out numbers. I can just imagine that note with his beautiful handwriting. ✍🏻📜
