  • Buongiorno. So many of you have asked me for advice on this topic of study visas, getting a European passport if you have Italian parents or grandparents, buying a property in Italy and handling all the documents, consulate meetings, red tape, process times and hoops one has to jump through to legally move to Italy, study the language, buy a property and make a new life here. This episode I interview an Italian lawyer, Michele Capecchi, who gives a wealth of information and advice for everyone who is dreaming of moving to Italy. You can find his law firm here: www.capecchilegal.com/ Making these episodes alone is very time consuming and expensive and if you would like to support my work, you can find my Patreon page here:

You can find my recipes and other information on moving to Italy, learning Italian or my filmmaking equipment on my website:

Please don't follow me on Facebook as that person is not me - they have stolen my identity for the past few years. You can follow me over on Instagram for daily inspiration from Italy and around the world to make you dream, learn a language, cook, travel, move to a foreign country, film, edit or pursue your passion:

Thank you for watching! If you have any questions regarding the subjects in this video, please DO NOT email me directly. Instead, leave your question in the comments below so that I can collate all the queries in one place and also see if your question is liked by others to make a shortlist of the most common questions for a Part 2 video. I made this episode in response to the hundreds of emails I get every week about the challenging visa process. I know how frustrating this whole experience can be but it's worth it in the end, so don't give up!! If you are interested in learning more about Michele's law firm, you can find his site here: www.capecchilegal.com/

I found this very interesting to watch and thank you so much for putting this on TH-cam, I am looking to buy a house in Italy or France soon and it has made me aware there is a lot to sort before hand. I hope to retire out there one day but as we are now out of the EU in the UK it will only entitle me to stay 90 days in 180 days . My partner is of French descendent found out via his father who did a family tree and so now he may be able to obtain residency in France if they will allow or do you know if this is something only allowed in Italy? I would be grateful for your advise. Love watching all you video's Angela xx

Kylie, Grazie per queso video. All of my grandparents were born in Italy but in areas where I have not visited. I looked into becoming a citizen, but came to the conclusion I did not qualify. This video gave me hope I could be wrong. IF you do a Part 2 I would appreciate advice as to how to proceed and even an estimate of cost.

I really admire how well you help people dream but also give them the reality of that dream Kylie. It's a hard balance to strike! As an American who lived in Italy I hope people understand just how difficult it is to do this and I get frustrated when it's presented by other creators as that they're "living the dream" and everything is perfect... They don't show the tears, frustration, thousands and thousands of dollars/pounds spent, etc just to be able to get there... And then it all starts over again when you try to rent a property, send mail abroad, renew your permesso etc. Loved this interview, really well done ❤️

    • @KylieFlavell
      @KylieFlavell  3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

Thank you! Yes, I feel that frustration with how the full spectrum isn’t always shared too. Thank you for noticing this. It’s quite delicate to inspire and give people hope but also prepare them for the reality. 😊

Thank you Kylie for this video! As an American who is looking to move to Florence later this year it was very informative. The 1st part of the video regarding the Student Visas was the best for me. It confirmed for me that I am doing and following the correct steps to obtain a Student Visa. When doing all the research by yourself and watching videos, reading articles, etc. you "believe" that you are doing the right things. But now I KNOW that I am correctly following the steps and know what I need to obtain my Student Visa later this year. My school (Parola in Florence) is accepted by the government and I can work up to 20 hours per week. So, again grazie for another GREAT video and one that affected me personally! ❤🇮🇹 Paul

I am glad that you did this video. I have been thinking about moving my life to Italy. All of my work is done through virtual meetings. So I can live and work anywhere. Florence is my goal. This video gave me information and a good legal contact in Italy. Thank you.

Kylie thank you. That was so informative especially for those of us (nz) with vague thoughts of spending time/buying a wee place in Italy in (fast approaching eek!) future years!

This was so helpful, thank you! And really interesting to learn about the different options - I had no idea there was the option to apply for a visa that isn't for working, providing you've got enough money saved / coming in from passive sources.
Also very interesting to learn that the Italian heritage can now come through the female side as well; I had been told it was only paternal, but if it's maternal as well then that's something I could look into. (My mum's side of the family has Italian heritage; think it's my great-grandfather that was Italian).
So this was all incredibly helpful & fascinating, thank you so much!

Kylie, this is a fantastic film! All of yours are, but this was an extra excellent topic, so well received, so needed! And so appreciated! And I LOVE that the restrictions insist that the landscape is cohesive, it's beautiful for that reason! The movie, Under a Tuscan Sun, showed Francis having a wall torn out...with "Normale" stated in all transactions in her purchase - seemingly so easy... Not so much, I guess, and not so Hollywood-ized. Thank goodness for that!

Thank you! Yes, I don’t recall any scene in the film where she went through the stress of getting the visa. She just steps off the bus and decides to turn from a tourist to a home owner and permanent resident.

Kylie, this was incredible! This lawyer is actually friends with one of my dear friends who also lives in Florence. She connected us so Michele could help me understand all that I’ll need to do when I marry my Italian fiancé (soon!). We live in Manhattan now but so wish to move to Italy. I’m taking this video as a sign based on all the things you covered. I’m delighted that this is the video you released today after having had a really long chat with my beau regarding when/how we will move. Plus, my great grandmother is born/raised in Palermo, so I’m also looking to take the citizenship path too ♥️♥️♥️ So happy - blessings to you always! Xx

You'll see, if you like you can spend all your life traveling every weekend in a different Italian city or village and even in all your life you wouldn't be able to visit everything you have to see here. I don't like Italian mind, but I can say it's a wonderful Country.

Wow, it's really exciting to see my country from another point of view. Wow, where I live? We can't see it often and that's so sad. I live in another beautiful coast of Italy, the one where there is also Portofino, Liguria. Thank you for your beautiful videos about my home and my origin, really thank you. You made my day!

Thank you so much for this information. I am a new subscriber. This was a very interesting conversation with Mr. Capecchi. My Italian grandparents lived in northern Italy in the cities of Maderno and Salo. I have been searching for someone to help me in obtaining Italian citizenship and also in finding my grandparents marriage and birth records in Italy. Italy is such a beautiful place and I am really enjoying your videos that capture Italian life.
