      Once again I will add a little bit of constructive criticism. I've been watching you guys were around a year-and-a-half no. Actually the only TH-cam videos I watch and I believe I've watched every single video and podcast!! With that said I got a saying I can see how you guys are trying to move forward and build something great, which I think you guys are actually doing an amazing job! I'm more feel like I am the father and you guys are the children because I continue to watch you guys grow each episode into something greater and something bigger. But my whole reason for commenting was to say ...spite please at least act like you know when you're talkin about!!!!! Thingamajig... And harley is different because "reasons"!!!!! really!!!!

    I’ve got to say this is one of my favorite videos from you guys. Something about breaking this down and explaining how and why is just unique to this channel. Would love to see more of these type of videos that round the channel as not just fun, informative , but also educational. You guys edited this really well to where I didn’t get bored and you kept my attention for the entirety. Great job and happy thanksgiving!

    Heck yes!!! I did this with my 1999 sportster 883 with only diff is a carb setup. Learning lessons are piston clips are the devil and solid push rods are the devils kid to seal them. It was so much fun I just had hammer performance bore and port my 2002 softail! They do a great job.

      Don’t leave us hanging! Please tell me you got the kit and you have been ripping around ever since October/november. I just ordered the 1275 110+ kit for my 2010 1200c. Like you it took me a very long time to get the funds together and many roadblocks in my life that held me back.
      When I receive everything and when I have all the parts in front of me I will come back to this comment and share my sh*t show with the world.

    Did the Hammer 1275 conversion on my ‘94 xl about 3 years ago. It was a vanilla job, pretty much the jugs, pistons, snd ignition module only. The only issues i had were getting the carb jetted right, and the extra heat from running a higher compression motor.
    She’s certainly fast though. But i went a step further and added a ‘03 Vrod to the garage... even faster, & liquid cooled.

    Easymode for those wrist pin retaining rings is to put the split section in first facing the bottom of the piston, then use your thumb to slide in the top.

      You aren't wrong. some may hate on the sportster but they are a very solid base for modding, really only needing some more power to be perfect...IF you like cruisers. If you just don't like HD or cruisers, scroll past...

    • @sylumgand
      @sylumgand 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Over the decades, customizing your bike has become a huge part of Harley's sales pitch. Also being that Sportster's are the cheapest entry to a Harley, Spending 3k on a used 883 and then another 3k-ish on parts to surpass the performance of a stock XL1200 or even some of the newer 100+ci engines(stock ones mind you), is not really a bad route to go. Oh and pretty much all that work can be done in any driveway with some hand tools and basic engine knowledge. Not something the cheaper more powerful import bikes even offer. Plus with imports you either get a 12k rpm sport bike motor or a weak ass V-Twin you can't upgrade at all. Unless you find a solid deal on a big ass Vulkan or skip over a big Vtwin for a Goldwing. Just talking in the used market here, good luck finding any running riding 100hp Harley cruiser for under 6k. Vrod comes the closest and thats not a cruiser.

    I did a screaming eagle 1200 swap and beat this build by 1hp, retained warranty and only spent about $1k more than this (which is essentially just labor). I’m saving up to get to the 1275 but I plan to be at 120hp at the wheels, 88hp at 7k rpm is not enough!

    you didnt need to have the juggs in place while you were doing the rings and pistons.
    you should have done the rings on the bench, install the end clip, lube the pin, then take it over to the motorcycle, and attach to conrods, install C clip. then install the post,/ rpf

      but in this instance, they didn't need to have the jugs there.
      at the bench put rings, and first clip.
      then take over to the bike and attach to the con rod. by putting the lubed pin through and the final circlip. check its free to move no binding

    okay. soo so far only thing i think you did wrong, and it is totally referenced in the hammer vids, its use your fingers to get the c-clip into position, then use a plastic poker like the end of a ball point pen to push the clip in till it seats (without the ball point out) BECAUSE hammer video says that it could scratch the clip if you use metal which in turn can cause a stress fracture later on down the road and it will lead to failure

    Cool video but jebus, no wonder Sportster guys are always “ week away” from doing this upgrade! What a pain in the ass! Makes you question why you would buy the 883 in the first place.

    • @alexfasciolo2715
      @alexfasciolo2715 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s cheaper than buying a 1200 and doing the same thing. Putting an aftermarket 1275 on an 883 gets you more power than a stock 1200, so if you want that power, buy the smaller bike and then get the bigger kit.
      Some people also like projects.

    • @jasongraham3488
      @jasongraham3488 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 883 has a different gear ratio than the 1200 and even with a bolt on screeching seagull 1200 kit (meaning not as cool or fast as a hammer kit) a 1200 kitted 883 will smoke a factory 1200 off the line. After all,, what do Harley boys want to do besides go fast in a straight line when the green light turns on?

    Question: why do people buy aftermarket piggyback tuners when u can just have the stock ecu reflashed with a dyno and tune at ur local shop. Costs less money is more reliable from what ive read and they normally will retune ur bike for free for life if u ever change anything or want something different. Dead serious why spend more money for somwthing less reliable

    • @AJKammerer
      @AJKammerer 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That dynovision tuner does reflash the ECU. It doesn't need to live on the bike.

    • @Csperopolous
      @Csperopolous 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh ok i didnt know that, i assumed it was like a power commander or other products. But i dont think it fully answers my question. Why buy that to load a pre set tune to the bike when u can have a full dyno and tune done by a certified tech who (lets be honest here) knows more then us garage mechanics when they are the same price or cheaper to dyno it

    • @jonnymac8925
      @jonnymac8925 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The tuners for Harleys aren't less reliable, and tuning a stock HD ecu would cost more than a tuner. The powervision, fuelpak3 and a few other tuners are insanely reliable and have much more support and options. The tunes on these tuners are made by some of the best people in the industry, trust me when I say they work great!

    • @Csperopolous
      @Csperopolous 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok good to know, but im not sure how they are cheaper, dyno and tune at 3 different shops in my area for 2 different bikes are $230 bucks, all shops highly rated and i know the owners personally. Also that isnt a special rate for me or nothing thats what they charge customers. I just really dont see the benefits of using a fuel pack or other tuner over an actual dyno and tune.

    Why not just buy the Sportster 1200 instead of an 883 to start with?

    • @purpletwinkie64able
      @purpletwinkie64able 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Better gearing for 883 and when upgrading jugs to 1200+.... you will have way much more power than a stock 1200

      Because hammer performance knows how to make a sportster run like it should have from the factory. My 1997 883 hugger with hammer kit has run 11.63 at 116 mph at Fontana 1/4 mile and 7.35 at 96 mph at barona drags in ramona ca. Reliable Daily rider. 50 mpg on 91 octane pump gas.

    • @XenaTheQuadCamBikah
      @XenaTheQuadCamBikah 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Biggest reason is that a hammer performance 1275 kit with prepped heads and those 560 cams will far outperform a stock 1200.
