There's something to be said for the simplicity of a carburator. When I did my 06 all I had to do was change the jets and enrich the mixture during break in.
I was curious to what you changed your main jet to, I have a 06 883r I want to get a 1200 kit for it.

Narrowband sensors are actually more accurate than wideband sensors, but it can only detect where fuel mixture leaner or richer than stoichiometric. Where wideband can give you current fuel mixture value across wide range.

That's false. Narrowband sensors can only approximate AFRs between 14.0-15.0. Wideband sensors are far more accurate across a much wider band and give you a precise AFR reading
You can really give that bike longer highway legs, if you change the belt and trans pulley out to the euro spec 1200 units. Really lowers the rpms on the highway. I also changed the primary chain and sprocket, when my stator went out, to the 1200 units. That lowers the rpms even more. It depends on the year whether or not there is a difference in the 883 vs 1200 primary gearing. Some years were identical. I also swapped out the 3.3 for the 4.5 gallon tank and with that set up, I could get about 200 miles out of a tank full. I had more range than most of the touring bikes I ride with lol. I really miss that bike.
How much does it change your acceleration?

For those wondering;
VE = Volumetric Efficiency (a measure of an engine's capability in % to fully fill it's cylinders with ambient air at any given RPM for a given throttle position). If that's still confusing, then think of the words AIR DENSITY. It's a comparison of how much total air mass is entering the cylinders on the intake stroke vs how much air mass would theoretically enter if the cylinder was set to ambient conditions when the intake valve closes. That's where the percent portion comes in.

Love the Powervision on my 09 883. Running it since 2013, with many many autotune sessions. Recently installed the wideband kit. Bike runs like a champ, even with no actual dyno time.

Only reason I’m asking is because I’m doing mine this winter i plan on doing 551 cams with the 1275 née clutch etc
Must be more careful with air cooled motors break in as loose clearances versus water cooled motors
I was under the impression it was the opposite because air cooled has more room for expansion.
There are different schools of thought. Some do the 500 mile thing, some do heat cycles. Some say break it in like you plan on using it.
@@Shutchohole I think if professionals tell you to heat cycle then follow a break in period on their product then you should probably do it
@@beardedforlife3740 I'm not saying don't follow a professionals direction. Just stating that there were different schools of thought out there. I've only broken in one motor (883) and everything went well and was a reliable bike. Following the Harley 500 mile break in.
Also Hammer Performance seems to be the best thing going for big bore kits. So I tend to defer to their expertise.
Thanks for the review of the Hammer 1275 kit. Gives me something to look forward to work on an 883 I just picked up.

Better check if you got the wires for the fuel injectors right. There's a front and a rear, & when in autotune if they're reversed- the bike will run shiddy & stall. Found this out the hard way, guy that did the 1200 kit on my old sporty fugged up- it was essentially running like a diesel & would stall just like your bike. It never stalled in autotune again after I put the injector wires where they belong.
It says to wait 10 seconds, but it actually takes 16 to 20 to reset. If you watch the speedo, the needle will slightly move when it resets on a sportster. Sadly, it doesn't work the same way on the Dyna. I always count to 30 just to be sure.
Are you guys getting another Harley after this giveaway?? Maybe VRod might be more Yammie's taste in performance cruiser or Fat Bob.

@@maxjohnson6218 lol Indian Scout is amazing bike but Spite is a Harley guy (even though he admitted the Scout was the better bike). So here is hoping that they have more Harley content in the future! Maybe even LiveWire

Yammie you should get a hold of a newer softail heritage or deluxe, and review it. It’s the only Harley I actually really liked. I tried dynas, sportsters, and the softail is so nice, I ended up buying one cause it felt so smooth on the highway and impressively nimble with its low center of gravity, also plenty of power and just beautiful bikes. It’s a “real” Harley for real boys.
They’re all just “big sportster” - HD bikes do very little for me

Yeah, because the Sportster isn't a "real" Harley? Even tho it has been in continous production with few changes since 1957. The Sportster IS the real Harley, and everything else is an offshoot.
@@fitnesslibrarian9013 I've ridden harley's big bikes and they really just aren't fun unless you love harley. They don't do much for sport bike guys at all. It's comfortable but they're just kinda lame to us. Glad you guys enjoy them, but I'm with yammie

I have an XR1200 as well, and I really think they should've found an XR to build instead of this 883 Iron. The general clique of this channel would've been more receptive of a better handling model likely, and Yam probably would've been more into the mods than Spite.

Definitely. The bike handles like a heavier mid 2000s 600, but with that classic harley noise. It's a lot of fun.

Harley should eliminate front brakes, go back to carburetors, only use bias ply tires, and only use old style halogen bulbs. Heritage is good right?

I have a 1200 and the grenade plate in mine just went off, needed a whole new clutch basket, can't wait to try the new performance clutch in the spring.
I got rid of mine when I first got my Sportster. I put a Barnett extra plate kit, Barnett 25% diaphram spring and a Barnett billet pressure plate and holy shit it shifts so hard now, it is amazing! What are you doing to yours? I will eventually put a Barnett Scorpion lock up clutch in it haha
how many miles did you have on it when it let go? my bike has 9400 right now and im thinking of purchasing the kit for it.
@@parkersgarage4216 Dude, don't think about it just do it because it isn't a matter of if it will let go, it is a matter of when it will let go and trust that you don't want that. It could cause very little damage and leave you stranded on the side of the road with the bike not moving, or you will end up stranded on the side of the road with a fuckload of damage done inside the primary, and it can get bad. That is literally the only thing on a Sportster that mechanically should be swapped at the first chance. Some guys don't have them let go until 20-40k miles, but I also have heard of it happening as early as 5000 miles. The benefit of spending $200 and not having to worry about it, plus having an all around better clutch is worth it. I hope I scared you enough to do it hahaha
@@jonnymac8925 lol i def plan on doing it for sure. ive researched it quite a bit. that is literally the only bad thing about a sportster. i havent had the time to do it yet is all. i have to order the clutch and the tool to do it as well. id like to go w a slightly stronger spring too like 15%. how much better is the clutch now since youve upgraded? did you go w the kevlar clutches or?
@@parkersgarage4216 Hey dude I meant to reply to this a last week! I went with the Barnett kevlar extra plate kit but in the process I ended up breaking my pressure plate being clumbsy, so then I ordered a Barnett billet pressure plate. The 25% spring I put in made the clutch veryyyy hard to pull in so I fired some 1FNGR easy pull levers and a Magnum black pearl clutch cable and let me tell you the difference is insane. The bike hooks up hard and shifts amazing. It was 110% worth doing both for performance and for reliability. I put one full season on the setup so far and I can't picture going back. If I did it again I would probably go for a 15% spring tho because the 25% really was too much without the easy pull levers. I have carpul tunnel in both wrists but am not "weak" by any means, but the 25% is something I would use on a drag bike haha

Reminds me of when a friend put a freshly rebuilt motor in his car. We took an impromptu road trip on state highways (so varied revs and vacuum levels) just to put miles on the engine. Still running today... Have a local friend ride it to Abilene and back.
Am interested in the difference between the 1200 and 1275. Liked the 1200 I rode even though it was a fixer upper. Tempted to get one but I picked up a suzuki s83 instead.

It looks like the vance and hines competition series 2-1. I just ordered the superstreet 2-1 for my 1275 sportster. Hammer performance has dyno sheets on the v&h competition series and several other pipes on their website. The arlen ness f-bomb makes good power, if you can find one. I finally decided to pull the trigger on the s&s pipe

I’m wondering why a dyno tune is better than the auto tune. Running the bike on a dyno isn’t in real world conditions and auto is.....will you be tweaking the map from the dyno with auto after? Thx ....ps. Not sure why you’d spend all that coin and not get the wide band o2 sensors.... pps. Who doesn’t love a sporty....

My first bike was a used Harley Sportster that had had the Harley "Screaming Eagle" 1200cc upgrade and Power Commander. Got about 35mpg.
Is 35 mpg good on a cruiser?
@@Jeff_Green it's not bad but the little 3 gallon tank made it annoying for commuting. I had a 40 mile round trip to work every day so I had to fill up every other day or risk running out of gas trying to squeeze in three total trips to work.

False, for this application because it is a new set of pistons, jugs and heads - we need to slowly bed them in. The reason you don't need to do this on a factory bike brand new from a dealership is because they typically have already done that for you.
lmao this is how you end up with no engine.... This is done before a bike gets to a showroom.
Facts I bought my mt09 and 450l out the crate and redline the shite out of them on the first ride here we are thousands of km later no problems
@@Chumbucketsecret it has already been run in at the factory properly. They literally rebuilt the engine, it needs to break in properly.

I dont like Harley styling all that much, 90 style going on in the designs still. But that engine, just something about the Harley engine that is so fascinating. I wish they would make a 1930 Harley with modern parts, go all 100% retro
I think the fascinating thing is that you have to spend over a thousand dollars to make it marginally faster than a honda rebel, risk blowing it up when replacing it with the 1200 kit, and then spend a bunch more time and money to autotune it for an additional 500 miles so it is not trash.
@@That1J1 haha yeah I know. I would never do that kit. They have 1200cc Harleys also. They should just make the engines about 70 horses and people would stop the whole under powered discussion. My svartpilen makes almost as much bhp as a sportster 883 and its less than half the cc. but its not about the power its about a low stressed V twin, still I don't like there 90s look.

There are a few bikes the have DCT transmissions. You could go that route. Honda makes a few....

Yeah the stock 883 is geared really low so when you get 75 80mph it goes out of it's power band and over rev.
I did a chain conversion and put a 51 tooth on the back gave me a little more top end and much smoother around 70~75mph

Sorry, lemme clarify. You can break the engine in on the dyno.
Just buy the bike by the engine where you do not have to do all this expensive extra stuff. Harley’s can only revv so much. Revs make horsepower. Big pistons are heavy especially( high inertia) with long heavy rods and long push rods.
100% agree, just buy a 1200 as I did & love it, Sportsters are awesome bikes imo. I understand that they need content for the channel & I enjoyed watching this process & the bike does have more power but I’d rather be riding than wrenching, lucky winner here!
A 1200 is like 2 grand more to start. A basic 1275 conversion is cheaper than that, while still having the cheaper 883 insurance and more horsepower. To each thier own but for some of us, this wins to "just buy a 1200".
