I’ve got a 2015 2.0 Diesel 150hp DSG - had it 8 years, bought it 5k miles and it’s currently around 75k - brilliant car. Serviced every year, following the service book recommendations and it’s never let me down. Cambelt & water pump done at around 60k. Only thing I’ve had to replace are both of the front shocks - they were seeping oil and just changed them both for around £400. Great car! Hope to keep it for atleast another 3 more years
I’ve had mine for a little over 3 years now and driven around 95.000km. It’s still drives beautiful and still is allot of fun. I’ve the 2.0tdi which has been mapped to 190hp. I do all the maintenance myself at home and even installed the mfsw myself. Some of these problems are familiar to me and I’ve fixed them myself or had my mechanic do it. Still absolutely love it and will continue driving it for the coming years.
Own a 2011 1.4 in SG. Owned it from 100k mileage to 145k currently. Soo far i changed, - brand new mechatronic - fuse in gearbox - battery - radiator - took out the O2 sensor / emissions - changed tyre - changed rims (LOL) - 4x servicing / 1 gear oil change Other than that, have to say i love this car. Super value for $ if u know how to take care of it 🙂 And less common to leak compared to similar age BMWs
The mechatronic is almost indestructible IF you service it every time... but sadly MOST people dont care. VW and VW dealers always say. be sure you have changed the DSG oil (wet clutch) every 55k kilometers and you wont have an issue. i know people who drove 270 miles with the same clutch and same dsg without power loss, just service those bitches, dont do launch controls (btw VW has a LC counter) so they can see how many times you launched the car. and try not to do traffic jams a lot.
Drove approx 60000km in 2 years now, fixed my alternator & fuel pump & ignition key turn. I changed my mechatronic twice soo far in 2 years But love the dsg , gear has almost no lags when serviced properly Also just overhauled my gearbox , i changed it every 30k km previously but now probably gonna service it every 20k, as my car is coming to 13 years of age. Noted on the jam, heard a fren mentioned it as well, usually i put the car in neutral if im staying stationary for long. Headache when it spoils but i love the drive man :3
The electronical issues are bs... idk what he's talking about but im in a Vdub club and NEVER heard about electronics, the windows yes... with frost its a big issue. Also the 1.4 version is pretty good and packs a punch and if you tune it... its even more fun. And indeed the water pumps of the TSI 2.0 engines are trash. but most were replaced during warranty or service. The wiring looms are all the same of the MQB (JUUUST a lil bit diffirent in lenght). but they should be near identical. The DSG? yes be sure you service them every 60k kilometers, do a oil change every 2 year if you dont drive a lot, but use premium oil of well known brands and if you dont yeah its on you.. most issues with cars is mostly due to user error.
Might be worth noting, the timing chain issue only affected 2.0 TSI engines pre 2012 (gen 1 + 2) The gen 3 engines don’t suffer with this. Also would’ve been worth talking about the carbon build up on the valves on the older models. The gen3 has secondary injectors to combat this. Also those headlights are the best ones 😂. The pre facelift suffered with fading and micro cracks so badly 😞 Great video 🙌✌️
The chain rattle is a tsi engine issue, I'm going to assume the 1.2 versions are the same if they use chains. It's a chain thing. I have a 1.4 122hp model on a 2012 plate with just over 80k miles now and every now and the the chain rattles until warm. I've only had mine just over a year, but not had issues with the headlights as you described. Obviously it's hit and miss from car to car.
Thanks for this video! Very helpful! And even though there's a long list of issues mentioned, I very much like this car, always did... I guess the heart wants what the heart wants.
It’s amazing! I used to tinker with vw’s about 20 yrs ago. I had mk3 gti, mk3 vr6 and mk2 g40 polo. Thought about getting a scirocco 1.4 as a basic work runner and came to check reliability. I said to myself “as long as it doesn’t have the ‘old’ electrical problems!! 🤣😂 how is it possible that they still carry electrical problems 25 yrs later?!! I needed an auto electrician to rewire half my golf gti and most of my vr6. I was lucky he was a family member, but i dread to think how much it would have cost to replace all those little rubbed bare wires!!
2010 2 litre tdi. All four dampers done. 2x aircon pumps. Rear boot latch replaced. Egr valve and cooler. 176000 miles. Gearbox is sweet and still pulls well.
Had my Rocco GTS nearly 2 years, been great but not bulletproof. 2 major problems so far: coolant leak caused by a worn plastic adaptor part, cost £130 to have replaced. And now I've got 6 warning lights on the dash caused by a faulty ABS sensor which has set off a number of faults with the car's diagnostics and readings.

Really good and informative video thanks for it! I have a problem with the frameless window operation on the driver side. It doesn't drop slightly down the window when I pull the handle, so I have to open a little the door to drop it down. Is that a common problem or specific for my car? Should I change a kind of switch around the handle mechanism?
Good interesting video, but I wouldn't put people off the 1. 4 models. Unless you are always owning R spec type cars or higher performance then they will seem underpowered even the twin charge version, but they are still quick for what they are. I've owned various cars over the years and some even much quicker than my current car which is the 1.4 122hp model, I could've afforded a 2ltr or R, just mileage/price comparison at the time however I wouldn't say it was slow for the car. It's faster than the astral gtc 120hp model and having driven an abarth 500 135hp before I settled on the rocco, it felt as quick or quicker. It drives really nice and pulls well. Again just depends on why you're use to or what your expectation are.

I have just bought a 2023 2.0 TDI. Boot wont open apart from when i use the manual latch from inside. Also the windscreen washers wont pump for front or rear screens. Does anyone have any ideas? I believe that it could be wiring for the boot and not sure about the washers
Fuel cap is fixed by repeating LOCK FOB next to it and repeat pressing the activator spindle after cleaning with WD40. Battery can go low health if not used much so needs Trickle Charged in Winter. PCV Valve can blow at 60k miles. Cambelt is open to inspect condition of glossy rubber and inspect teeth.
i got a 122, and yep the 160 are very faulty, the engine can blow up at any moment, you should go for a 2.0 tsi a lot more reliable, but the 122 is not bad at all
@@flooriiinabout to buy myself one with 140.000km on the clock and same specs as yours. I'm a little afraid of issues with the chain so I wanted to ask what year yours is from since you haven't had any issues so far
@@_jonas_s hi there and sorry for the late reply. So far after all these years I only needed to change the battery a year ago and the disk breaks following the last mandatory tech check. Otherwise everything runs super smooth with mine and the interior quality I’m being often told looks like it’s pretty much brand new. I’m also lucky to run it in a country with good roads which might have helped
The neglected 160 are faulty...I own 160 10years so far only a water pump replaced. In my opinion dont get 122 its reliable because it's slow so get 160 it's reliable if you keep up with scheduled maintenance and cool unique engine twin charged(supercharged and turbocharged) or a higher version 2.0tsi or scirocco r
I have had 3 new Sciroccos one after the other since they started and my current babe was made in the very last month of manufacture. Sticky fuel cap yes on all of them. Just needs a clean of the release mechanism when you wash the car and carry a kitchen knife just in case in the boot to lift the lid out. Only done that once at a station ever on all 3. As far as faults. Not one single fault. Not one of the described issues. They are well made. Great cars. Highly reliable. But boy racers you will wreck any car anyway. My first Scirocco was a 2011.
I had a 2011 1.4 160hp and I got the piston issue, pistons were too small for the cylinders. They're all marked ready to crack. Trading her in for an R-Line 2014 1.4 122hp Drives great. Hope I have better luck here. The R-Line looks great. Thanks for the video! I'm going from manual to DSG
Currently own the 15plate 2.0TDi 184bhp Hatchback R line DSG box in white with no issues apart from a wheel sensor. Mileage currently stands at 61k Previously owned a 12plate 1.4TSi 160bhp supercharged coupe model in white and that was quick for a 1.4 but I took a loss with that model due to 3rd piston crack etc at 66k .. basically needed new engine so don’t purchase the 1.4 TSi 160bhp models as they turned out to be a common fault online forums after researching. And it also had other issues like new supercharger belt and timing belts etc just to many to remember unfortunately All in all I just love these cars
Any help would be great! Looking at a 1.4 tsi petrol. It's just over 100k miles. Is it worth buying? The issues with it are rough idling the guy says might be coil pack or spark plugs. Also the service sign is on Are they expensive to look at?
Thata foolish lol, if you maintain any car, it will be good to you! Im on my seconds Scirocco, i started with the 1.4 tsi manual 122hp, nippy, a good introduction to vw scirocco and the only issues i had over 4 years were front tyre wear and rear suspension. Thats down to me not the car. I now have a vw scirocco 2.0L TDI GT DSG 210hop and it deives perfectly. Beautiful looking cars and fun to drive. User error is always most certainly the cause of most faukts
all brands and cars got problems man...if you cant afford it or you dont want to spend time on it dont go on a sporty car...sadly all sport cars need love
The only problem on scirocco is it is TOO HEAVY. it has fewer features than passat and some variant of golf, and less doors than golf, smaller volume, but still weight that much? lol!
Difficult over a comment I understand, but I've had a sporadic epc light for 4 years that pops it into limp mode, had loom and throttle body replaced still popping up, many local mechanics don't seem to know. Just wondering I you've seen or heard of something similar
Have an 09 plate 2ltr TDI, if your window regulator goes it's a fckin nightmare 😂 the only downside to this car is no window frames on the door. Otherwise I fckin love this car.
I wouldn’t trust this guys opinion if he says the 1.4 tsi isn’t too bad. It’s literally known as the chocolate engine in the vw world. Known for blowing piston rings, even when maintained to high standards you will rarely see one of these engines reach 100k without a rebuild. We had one at50k miles and piston blown, rebuilt top of the engine and guess what happened six months later… pistonring blown! Check auto trader I doubt you will see many 1.4tsi with high mileage on there in comparison to the larger engine models.
In Germany / Netherlands you see them 150K+ kilometers, maybe they are better build? the lower QC cars moved outside of europe? idk... but we got laws for vehicle callbacks so everybody probably did a piston ring / piston replacement during the callback. but a lot of people dont even care or dont know if there was a callback. maybe thats why they blow? I know all VAG engines had those issues with piston rings, most are recalled in fact you even got 10 years warranty after it was done. The TSI 2.0 had same issue with piston rings, (oil burners).
1.4 tsi 100k miles original engine just regular maintenance and, warm up on start...let it cool down before switch off and don't drive like a pushy driving slow kills this engine
1.4 tsi twincharged are the worst engines vw ever made. They drive amazingly, but reliability is horrendeous, cracked engine block in a brand new one at 40k km.. cracked pistons etc. Dont buy it guys. The most reliable scirocco would be the 2.0 tdi(either 140 or 170hp)

I'd honestly not buy a TDI if doing small miles. I had a 2015 Golf GTD, and the moment I stopped doing a 45 min m4 commute the DPF started to play up.
@@MrRawUK how many miles on the clock
@@grahamwinteringham6012 it was only 45k. Full VW service history.
Must be lucky so far. Only worth 5k now so not worth selling
@@grahamwinteringham6012 as long as DPF can do a regen you'll probably be fine fella.
how come all the tdi 2.0 engines in vw seat have cam belts rather then chains? are cam belts just as good. how often do you change them?
I have a 2009 TSI which has a tyre pressure sensor light on at the moment and can't figure out why it's on as my car doesn't have TMPS any idea what it could be? Ive had it in the garage and they don't either
I have just bought a 2023 2.0 TDI. Boot wont open apart from when i use the manual latch from inside. Also the windscreen washers wont pump for front or rear screens. Does anyone have any ideas? I believe that it could be wiring for the boot and not sure about the washers
1.4tsi highline. what type of gear box does it have? what gearbox oil do you use?
depends on what the car had, it has a DSG or manual, the gearbox oil is like sewing machine oil, you need special equipment for it tho.
Those talladega alloys are prone to cracking ive had to have 2 of my welded
If I’m buying a 2016 2.0 TDI R-line with 47k mileage, what sort of things should I look out for? Someone help
Just make sure it has a good maintenance record, if it’s Dsg it should have the first dsg service, see if cambelt and water pump have been replaced
Thoughts on pd judder between 50-60 mph in 6th?
Would you take the 122 over the 160? I heard the 160 are faulty
i got a 122, and yep the 160 are very faulty, the engine can blow up at any moment, you should go for a 2.0 tsi a lot more reliable, but the 122 is not bad at all
I’ve got my 1.4 petrol, 122hp for 10 years now, 160,000km and no problems with it all this time. Really love the Scirocco after all the years
@@flooriiinabout to buy myself one with 140.000km on the clock and same specs as yours.
Yeah definitely boy racers that cause tensioners to fail super prematurely 🤦♂️
is it worth buying a used one (like a 2010-11) in 2024?
@@GreyMan.X if it’s been maintained properly and has no issues the yes why not
@@itsimty thanks
The car always sat too high with acres of space between tyre and arch. Always thought it was held back so as not to affect golf sales.
Saw a cheap one for sale (1.4), has an engine misfire. Any idea what that could be?
I reckon the engine might have a misfire 😅😅😅
this video is a godsend thank you mate!
Getting a 2014 1.4 with around 38k miles, what do you reckon I should look out for?

The comment about the dog 🤣 Many time I've said "The Scirocco isn't the best car if you've got a dog".
I have scirocco 2.0 TSI but cant drive it because of high emission
I had a 2011 1.4 160hp and I got the piston issue, pistons were too small for the cylinders. They're all marked ready to crack.
Trading her in for an R-Line 2014 1.4 122hp
Drives great. Hope I have better luck here. The R-Line looks great.
Thanks for the video! I'm going from manual to DSG
Great video mate. 👍

Thanks for the tips .
Very good review
Electrical problem: 1. Door mirrors switch, 2. Wing Morrors turn signal indicators, and switch button problem
Currently own the 15plate 2.0TDi 184bhp Hatchback R line DSG box in white with no issues apart from a wheel sensor. Mileage currently stands at 61k
Previously owned a 12plate 1.4TSi 160bhp supercharged coupe model in white and that was quick for a 1.4 but I took a loss with that model due to 3rd piston crack etc at 66k .. basically needed new engine so don’t purchase the 1.4 TSi 160bhp models as they turned out to be a common fault online forums after researching. And it also had other issues like new supercharger belt and timing belts etc just to many to remember unfortunately
All in all I just love these cars
Nice car absolutely beautiful but I'm 5, 10 and I can't sit in it properly because the seats are wayy to heigh
I'm 5,10 and don't find them too high.
Any help would be great!
Looking at a 1.4 tsi petrol.
It's just over 100k miles.
Is it worth buying?
The issues with it are rough idling the guy says might be coil pack or spark plugs. Also the service sign is on
Are they expensive to look at?
I wasn't expecting there to be so many problems, I'm going to cross this one of my wish-list. It's a shame because they look great.
They are a great car, these are just some common faults we have seen as a specialist.
I've had a scirocco for almost 10 years, never had any problems..
I have had 3 Sciroccos and not one fault. Don't believe this guy .
hey, is this scirocco available for sale? id happily take it off your hands
Unfortunately not, Thank you for watching
The only problem on scirocco is it is TOO HEAVY. it has fewer features than passat and some variant of golf, and less doors than golf, smaller volume, but still weight that much? lol!
It's got a larger body and weighs pretty much the same as a golf...
Ironically the only issue I've had was the front light.Water ingress.
Anybody here have issue with the DSG 7 speed 1.4l tsi?
Difficult over a comment I understand, but I've had a sporadic epc light for 4 years that pops it into limp mode, had loom and throttle body replaced still popping up, many local mechanics don't seem to know. Just wondering I you've seen or heard of something similar
Got the same problem, looked online and someone suggested the idle switch. If you get it sorted let me know 🙏
Have an 09 plate 2ltr TDI, if your window regulator goes it's a fckin nightmare 😂 the only downside to this car is no window frames on the door.
@@Underp4ntz_Gaming_Channel same in greece
1.4 tsi 100k miles original engine just regular maintenance and, warm up on start...let it cool down before switch off and don't drive like a pushy driving slow kills this engine

1.4 tsi twincharged are the worst engines vw ever made. They drive amazingly, but reliability is horrendeous, cracked engine block in a brand new one at 40k km.. cracked pistons etc. Dont buy it guys. The most reliable scirocco would be the 2.0 tdi(either 140 or 170hp)
Whew. Lucky it has all that German quality
