Nobody seems to pick up on that master kenobi told sidious he'd beat anakin way back on general grievous's ship. Not in exact words but he told palpatine "sith lords are our specialty" Kenobi had already beaten maul and grievous by the time that he faced Vader. Master kenobi also had the most experience in duels against sith. He faced maul as a padawan, dooku multiple times and sparred with anakin countless times. His specialty was quite literally dueling sith lords.

@@ericb8241 Actually there is a lot more to Obi-Wan's and Anakin's duel with Dooku in RotS. While I do believe Sidious helped Dooku take out Kenobi with the Force, the Novelisation of RotS explains more what is going through Dooku's mind during the duel, including why Dooku had to fall back so heavily on the Force to take Obi-Wan out of the battle. Put simply, Dooku, one of the greatest duelists of his time was actually intimidated, perhaps even scared of just how skilled and precise Obi-Wan had become when practising the lightsaber form of Soresu, to the point where Obi-Wan was effortlessly deflecting Dooku's strikes with apparent ease. This unnerved Dooku as he feared what would happen if Obi-Wan was to continue duelling him alongside Anakin, so Dooku was forced to fall back on Force abilities which of course would be stronger than Kenobi's.

Sidious's biggest mistake was underestimating Kenobi repeatedly due to his ego. He never thought highly of Kenobi, since Kenobi wasn't particularly strong in the Force, not like Yoda, Mace Windu or Anakin. He was just an average Jedi Master who was beneath him and his time, to consider Kenobi a threat would be an insult to himself and his power. He sets himself firmly in the light side of the force and focusses all of his ability and purpose on achieving that one, specific goal. He isn’t emotionally distraught or torn in a thousand different directions, nor worrying about any other issue. He achieves his goal and then goes about his business, humbly and without fanfare. • @SamCoulson
      @SamCoulson 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

I've heard it said that ObiWan was conflicted during this fight. He didn't want to defeat Anakin, his brother, but he will do what he must. He fights defensively the entire battle, which is his style, but also because there is a part of him that hopes Anakin will come to his senses and turn back without being hurt. It's not until the end of the duel, when Anakin makes it clear that he will not repent, that Obiwan disables Anakin. But note that he does not kill him, he still hopes he can be redeemed. If Obiwan truly was intent on destroying Darth Vader on Mustafar, he would have killed him.
This is contrasted with Obiwan and Anakin's final duel in the recent Obiwan series, where he acts more aggressive towards Vader because he is committed to defeating him because he believes he is lost. Also his duel on the Death Star which is quite assertive. See Jill Bearup here on TH-cam.

In sheer power, Obi-Wan started out as weak, lacking natural talent like Anakin has but he compensated it by working hard and adapting and surviving challenges to become one of the last Jedi Council Members
Obi-Wan kept facing foes that’s more gifted or stronger than him, he at times survive those battles by adapting and using skill and strategy to win
For young Vader, Obi-Wan despite being outclassed in power level, knew Anakin’s techniques and knew how to counter him and prolong fight until he could strike him when he’s overconfident

I always wished there was a different version where Obi-Wan and Anakin were able to talk it out and then what? When Obi-Wan first shows up he says something like "I am trying to help you" and Anakin said something back like "you are here to kill me" At that point Anakin had stacked the temple so he crossed a line that I don't think could be forgiven , yet Obi-Wan would have needed him to take out Sid...........awkward..

      @MrAranton 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

You seem to be conflating "talent" and "midi-chlorian count". Being strong in the force and being a talented duelist are not the same thing. Sure, being strong in the Force can compensate a lack of talent in duelling, but only to a degree. In Rebels and later The Mandalorian we see people with connection wield the Darksaber, and quite adeptly. They would be at a disadvantage against a jedi with strong connection to the Force. But suppose the jedi lost their connection to the Force; can you imagine a forceless Yoda or Windu defeat Sabine Wren? I can't. But I think Obi- Wan would have a chance of winning.

    • @tonysobon4669

@@MrAranton I get what you are saying and it is for sure more clear with someone like Yoda but you are just basing that on a Jedi's race , body type or age.
Anakin had more raw power in his Hand then Obi-Wan did in his whole body but it doesn't matter if Anakin is only able to connect a fingers worth of power that would in turn balance the scales enough for the fight to favor Obi-Wan's style of fighting.
My point is either way they were using "the force" at all times so it's really hard to say where skill and "The force" start and stop. Again with Yoda it is much more clear. Or like with Mace I get why you used him as an example since he is so deadly with a light saber because he is able to tap into the force in a different way then most but he still learn and knew I think like 5 forms of Light Saber combat so again it would be hard to say what is the force and skill/

I mean even if you just take the movies as a baseline he defeats Darth Maul as a padawan and destroys General Grievous. when qui gon jinn got killed by maul, for obi wan it wasn't rage he felt but determined justice. its the same concept as electric judgement. which can be confused with sith force lighting, which is focused from hate and anger. where electric judgement can only be activated when the jedi is extremely compelled to enforce justice.
thru the entire fight gin and obi used a non lethal light saber form meant to subdue, disarm and capture maul alive, but maul was a master of all 7 forms, so good he could take on a master and soon to be jedi. then when he knocked obiwan off the cliff his emotions were filled with joy, pride. so he lost his sharp focus, that the sith get from anger and hate. then when obi one summoned the force, grabed gins light saber, maul was expecting obiwan to use the same self defence form and anticipated a disarming strike. but the light side of the force itself guided obi-wan to perform a killing blow. because there was no way to capture him alive, his master was dead. obi wan would of died he fought toe to toe and in an equal fight, and there would of been no justice at all for the Jedi maul killed. so the force guided obi-wan to strike a killing blow at the very exact moment he would of only have been able too.
which is parallel to luke putting away the guiding system when he took the shot at the death star. he had to forsake all conventional thinking from past, experiences and training, and truly let go and let the force guide him to perform a very precise action.
this also shows that qui gon jinn did his duties as a teacher masterfully, as he had to meditate to connect to the force, where obi wan was able to summon it in the very moment he needed it most. Obiwan had surpassed his master which is the hallmark of a great teacher. in that instance he had also been able to technically disarm maul by cutting his dual saber in half.
this is what confused maul because he was a sith and did not expect this padawan to deal a killing blow in the end, when every move he used before was from a pacifist form. since maul could of never grasped the concept of determined justice. also he did not understand how the Jedi draw there use of the force. where the sith it just pure tenacity, grit, hate and focus. with the jedi it a sudden burst of genius focused in a single blow at the most important time, hidden/disguised, backed up behind natural jedi tenacity and grit.

I would agree with you for the most part. I don’t believe there was ever anything Obi-Wan could do to stop Anakin’s fall as it really didn’t have anything to do with him or his teachings. The real issue was his relationship with Padmé, and how he let fear control his actions and not being mindful in the force. Kenobi’s only fault was adherence to the teachings of the Jedi, his old master was constantly coming up against the council and doing what he thought was right, no matter the Scenario, Qui-gon was righteous and aligned with the light side of the force firmly. It’s a shame to see that Obi didn’t inherit the rebellious streak of his master, it could have helped immensely in locating Darth Sidious earlier and bringing his reign as chancellor to a quick halt.

It was determined that in normal circumstances, he shouldn't be able to do insane stuff that Yoda, Sidious Windu or Anakin could. Yet he still become one of the most powerful force users, due to his dedication to the craft, to the force, and to the people he cared for. It was not wrong to judge that his force power was not great. The force just assists him thanks to how dedicated he was, and not solely because of high Midichlorian count. He didn't get the job done because he was powerful or because he had everything necessary for it. He got the job done because it had to be done, and he poured his soul into making sure it does.

@@kaidiya2403 sixteen episodes work together the 2 finale episodes On the whole, I definitely felt this season was not only good but also an excellent improvement over season 1. We got a lot more intriguing stuff such as the phasing out of the Clones, the Bad Batch figuring out what to do, the potential of a Clone Rebellion, etc. Also, limiting the guest characters was appreciated too, and even with the guests used such as Senator Chuchi, they were used to great effect. So yeah, I greatly enjoyed this season and look forward to season 3 (which I suspect could be the final one ends with a plot twist and leaves the next season in so many directions Tech's sacrifice was powerful, moving, and unexpected. I do however think One of my favorite seasons of Star Wars. Everything hit for me and it all paid off in the end Not enough people recognize the incredible character writing we have in star wars now. From season 7 of CW to the end of TBB s2, the squad has evolved so much. Not to mention all the other stories like Mando whose characters have majorly evolved. And of course Andor with its deeply nuanced approach. Some people see star wars as a fun action franchise, which it is, but it is also so much more and should be recognized for that Overall I did enjoy this season, definitely the best of the two so far. I think Season 3 will be great with what they have set up. We got a lot of good character development, emotion, fun stories, new worlds and characters, and a lot of good action. For what this show is on its own following this squad of characters I think they are handled well. I am personally on the side of seeing each episode for what they are and not as "filler" because it didn't follow some main storyline. Each episode follows our Batch even if some might be lesser than others. I am ready for Season 3 though and we'll see if they announce it at Celebration here soon I hope it all comes together in a satisfying third season and maybe a finale Bad batch season 2 is like when it's good, it's GREAT. Crosshair had almost ALL the best episodes and when it was bad it was horrible filler. I'm just surprised the bad batch didn't have an episode where they were doing Sid's laundry or grocery shopping. In my opinion, this show is so disappointing. Why are all of the most important character decisions off-screen? Cody leaves the Empire, Echo leaves the group to go with Rex, and the Batch leaves Cid, all of these are off-screen and irritate me I hope they cut out all those unnecessary filler episodes next season.

Good analysis. I know that a lot of people wouldn't see it the way you just broke it down, especially since Obi-Wan was supposed to be "an average Force-sensitive being." But he had focus and determination during his mission to stop Darth Vader on Mustafar. I think THAT buffed him up and burned away any fear that he may have had. You can hear it when he says "I will do what I must." I mean David wasn't supposed to be much when he slew Goliath, right? In reference to Obi-Wan's Force abilities, it's not the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog.

Obi-Wans character arc is more subtle, but enjoyable nonetheless. He starts out in TPM as a near dogmatic follower of the current Jedi system, nearly disdainful of QuiGons rebellion towards that same dogma. At the end, we see him step out of that just a little. Through AotC we see him trying to be the good Jedi knight the modern order expected of him, but also exercising a little bit of rebelliousness himself, concerning Anakin/padme, etc. By RotS, while he is still trying to appease the council that he now sits on, you can see his frustration in the modern Jedi model showing through a couple of times, and by the duel at the end, we see him near-fully stepping into the role what QuiGon would have said a Jedi should be.

With watching RosT - Obiwan coming into the final fight has just whitnessed the remains of the Jedi temple, Him and Yoda probably tried searching for survivors there, but only found bodies.
They reconfigured the emergency message to tell all other Jedi to hide and not to return to Corrisaunt, then found evidence that Palaptine and Anakin were the reason behind it. The two Jedi agreed on their, essenially, suicide plan. Yoda would only have a matter of minutes to engage Sidious before being swarmed by Guards and Obiwan was to face his Padalwan, who even he recognises as both stronger than himself and the one fortold to bring balance.
They had already lost, the Jedi had fallen and would continue to fall, these two were the last ones who were in any position to try and make things right, and the only way they could was to go in guns blazing and die upon the sword if need be.
I think Obiwan never expected to leave mustafar, he checks Padme once to ensure she is alive and doesn't look back at a life long friend, though he circles away from her, knowing Anakin will be the agressor and keeping her away from unwanted harm when the duel starts.
Isn't it also stated that Yoda fails to sense Obiwan until his ship is coming into land at the astroid station?

I was hoping they'd make Rey a granddaughter of Kenobi. They had the perfect set up for it. Kenobi was the only one to defeat a Skywalker (Ben defeating Vader mirrors Rey defeating Kylo).
They also had backstory ready made in The Clone Wars, where it's clear Satine had an affair with Kenobi and could have very easily concealed a pregnancy once he'd left her side to return to the Jedi Order. There was also no need to explain that backstory in the movies since it's made clear with Anakin sexual relations aren't forbidden, just love and attachment.
Rey was raised on a desert planet (mirroring Ben's long stay on another, and even his plain garb), she was naturally good at handling weaponry (A Mandalorian talent from Satine), and these things would have explained a lot of her natural talents and (hopefully) toned down the horrific Mary Sue-ness of her.
It would have also been interesting to make the Knight of Ren Mandalorians, giving Rey the extended family of sorts that she'd always yearned for.

I love the writing in eps 1- 6 ( y'know, the actual SW movies ) and how the lightsabre forms are so important. Obi Wan became a master of the defensive style Soresu, after seeing Qui Gon lose to an opponent of overwhelming aggression. He honed that style during the Clone Wars until he was THE master of Soresu, being able to defend against even the fiercest of duellists, and take them out the moment they made a mistake.
He trained, and fought alongside Anakin, gaining an understanding of Anakin's moves that no one else could have. Anakin was notorious for going in to a fight as hard as possible, using strength aggression and willpower to dominate. Soresu is the perfect counter style to this.
So by everyone's estimate, the fight on Mustafar was going to be impossible for Obi Wan to win, but he knew that if he stuck to his style and used his experience, he could. F*cking awesome.

The Jedi in the years leading up to the clone had become complacent, believing they were always right they would always win because the sith had always at some point been defeated. It was this dogmatic arrogance that lead to Ashoka being wrongfully accused of terrorism (and ultimately leaving the order), how Palpatine amassed so much power to the point he was near untouchable, and the worst keeping Anakin at arms length instead of maybe helping/guiding him better (Obiwan not included in this indictment) ultimately leading him going off the deep end and becoming Vader. Another excellent video. I like the idea of obi wan, average jedi master with spectacular power that comes from his purity of purpose. Do you think that this can also apply to the obi wan in the recent series? I think it is powerful that he has defeated vader on three occasions now, on mustafar, when meeting him again in obi wan series, and then finally when he allows himself to be struck down on the death star. I think another confrontation between obi wan and anakin is not needed. I hope they keep it at these three. I think it is quite perfect now as it is.

The way Sidious talks about Obi-Wan makes me wonder if most Sith are actually evil or just upset with the way the Jedi council were doing things.
In the novel Obi-Wan separates himself from the Jedi even more than he does in the film, you can see glimpses of it in some of his dialogue, in response to Grievous boasting about Count Dooku's training Obi-Wan responded "that's good because I trained the Jedi who KILLED Count Dooku!" it's the rawest line in Star Wars but not very Jedi like.

Obi-Wan is the soul reason that the jedi survived. His survival ensured the life of Luke and Leia. Which led to more Jedi. • @SalinaMoonfall

A small handful have floated the what if Obi-wan had been sent to fight Sidious, and Yoda instead had gone to confront Anakin. It's an interesting idea, since Obi-wan at this point in time was at the top of his game, and was the pure master of defense which may well have given him more than a fair chance against Sidious. Obi-wan going to confront Anakin was done based on emotion more than anything else, and Yoda thinks he as an old master of the order must be the one to confront Sidious betraying a bit of pride. But I think Yoda might have stood a good chance of getting through to Anakin, rather than Obi-wan who IMMEDIATELY set Anakin off because Obi-wan was too personally involved and close to the problem, whereas Yoda even as a council member even toward Anakin had always been a truly neutral and understanding party, he was the one Anakin went to seek low key help with the visions he was having, I do think he might have been able to abort Anakin's fall.

Obi Wan is an S-tier jedi and one of the most powerful force users of that time. Not an average jedi master at all, he is one of the most powerful jedi masters, near unbeatable. There is a reason why the council sent him to deal with Grievous.
People seem to be under the misconception that just because Obi Wan's midiclorian count is relatively low (actually very high but low compared to Anakin, Yoda, Mace and Dooku) it means that he is weak and that his force connection is low. His force connection is incredibly high actually. It's IQ vs being smart. IQ doesn't mean much without knowledge and wisdom, and just because you have an IQ of 200 it doesn't mean that you can outsmart someone with an IQ of 160.
No matter how you look at it him defeating Anakin at Mustafar was legit. Just consider the amount of jedi who could survive against Anakin for more than a few seconds, then consider how many jedi who could survive the long and intense battle that Anakin and Obi Wan had, not to mention win. Barely anyone.
George Lucas has said that Obi Wan was more powerful than Vader in ANH.
