All super solid valid points. For me.. I just love the the usability over the Rodes. And even more importantly.. I hate the shiny blocky square look of the rode. It sticks out too much. Much easier to hide the DJI mic
A lot of reviewers have kept the low cut filter on during their reviews of the DJI Mic 2. That cuts out the bass and makes it seem like it’s more tinny than the Rode. They’re actually pretty close when the low cut is turned off.
Well said, Terry. I'm an audio snob and I hear the difference between them, but you're right. Once you do any compression or EQ, the DJI's sound great. If you want the best sound, I'd just get a lav anyway with either of them. But, good for you for saying that "it depends" on your specific needs.
Terry you sold me on this in 5 min, covering all the things that bug me about my RODE kit. DJI it will be from today. Love your review. Shamefully I'm Australian and should be supporting RODE as an Aussie company!
The Rode Wireless PRO include 2 lav mics, wind shields for the mic and lav mics, and timecode, and have better sound out of the box, that is enough for me. About the DJI, great interface, better than the Rode, but once you have the settings done one time, that's it, Rode is better for anyone who just want to record a video with two good mics, and the timecode feature, amazing on Resolve.
i’m only interested in the Bluetooth feature with my iphone 15 pro max. i did the latest firmware update and oh man, i’m loving it so much. it’s easy and convenient and good sound quality too. that alone feature is well worth it to me. i tried it with my sony cameras, it is good just like any other mic. i turn off the low cut and turn off the noise cancellation, it sound clean. i like it so far.
THANK YOU for addressing the stupid decision by DJI to enable low pass cut by default. This was single-handedly responsible for 80% of the lackluster audio quality in all the initial reviews and comparisons against the Rode.
Nice vid. Looks like im getting the DJI mic 2. Is it fair to assume that when you record onto your Sony, the audio files from the 2 mics are split into left and right channels? thanks for the great vid.
I don't see the point, personally, to spend more than 200 bucks on a mic system. The only the reason I'd consider the wireless pro is because it comes with 2 mics and timecode
Rode MAY possibly have a slight edge in sound quality, but probably not enough for most folks to notice. DJI has a definite edge in usability for most creators. My Rode Wireless Pro stays in its case most of the time now but my Mic 2 is used all the time. I’m with you Terry.
I had the Dji mic 2 and unfortunately one of my transmitters became muffled and didn’t sound as good as the other. It was fine for two jobs. 🤷🏻♂️ Had to return it and ordered the Rode wireless pros, they are suppose to arrive tomorrow. I will jest chalk it up to bad luck though.
I have the original DJI Mic. It served me pretty well for the first year but now I am getting transmission interference non-stop. I updated it twice and reset it three times. It seems very susceptible to any interference. I'm going to send it back to DJI and I was thinking of purchasing this one or another for the mean time
Bro, I get it for content creators, I can see why the DJI is better. But the Rode is better me and it's not just about audio quality. It's about battery life. It's about storage capability. It's about the ability to plug in one device and being able access all three units. These are not only advantages but they are USEABLE advantages. Clearly the DJI is an AWESOME device. I have it and the Osmo Pocket 3. They are DOPE. And clearly it has its advantages over the Rode, but they don't really matter to my work flow. I never go out on job without my camera bag so the DJI carry case is no big deal. I use lav mics so being a little smaller is no advantage. By the way, when using lav mics properly the background noise drops dramatically so noise cancelation is not too much of an advantage. The best thing to me that DJI has going for it is that user interface which an absolute joy. RODE missed the boat on that one. And the ability to plug the receiver right into a cell phone is so frigging great, but again, I only use that on run and gun situations. Anyway bro, much respect to you and what you do. Keep bringing us the hotness
DJI isn't reliable and seems to have cut out issues and other things. I just recently got Rode Mic Pro and its incredible. It seems really only people talking highly about DJI 2 are ones who are supplied them from the company.
Just went with the DJI mic 2 mainly as I can connect it to the action 4 for our duck hunts that is HUGE! Plus it having the receiver screen facing us is a big factor when hunting as any light would be towards us rather than up or forward Also huge thank you for what you do man you’re my go to source on mics, drones etc and has helped improve my video/audio quality big time!
Sorry about your lost MR TERRY ABOUT YOUR DAD I saw your interview with koffi if I spelled it right and I'm new to your channel and filming. I would love to ask about camras if u up to it. I have a fx 3,fx 30, a7c2,a7cr ,zve1 and I just got a a6700 but still in the return policy do you think I should keep or take it back and what you recommend me to get im a solo shooter that was shot from my neck down I have the rode pro also they both can be returned but I have the dji mic 2 also I just want to make my videos for school as easy for me as possible not to rely on people hear in Baltimore
I already have the pocket 3 so I really only want the transmitter and 1 receiver kit which DJI sell. But they don't sell that with the pearl white version of the Mic2 - and brides in the UK just won't wear black!
@@JVJF7 I need a receiver for my main mirrorless camera which does most of the a-roll and detail stills at an event. DJI don't do the pocket 3 combo with the white mic, only the black.
I like the haptic feedback and the receiver of the DJI more, definitely good features on that one. Though I prefer the Rode sound straight out of the device compared to the DJI 2. The NC is a nice feature but I feel like doing NC in post is a lot better than most devices can do on board, but then again if you're looking for the simplest/quickest way to upload content I think NC onboard makes sense.
Thanks for the review and being honest about your opinions. New to the scene and you are the first one to talk about the DJI 32bit file size problem 👍 Thank you. That was never a consideration before. Thank you.
I'm telling you for ease of use. The Jog wheel as a tactile input is a clear winner. I absolutely love that little thing. It's easy to move through the device and you can lock the screen if you need to :)
I have the ride wireless go too, i still prefer that over the dji mic 2 because of the quality the Bluetooth is ok but not good enough for me as to where i need it because it still sounds tinny and can cut off. Unless they can make it better I’ll stay with rode
For audio related topics i check what my man Curtis Judd on TH-cam has to say. Having seen some compare reviews i would go with the Rodes. Better sound out of the box. Better battery life, latency and Timecode support. And i'm used to work with the Wireless Go.
I watch him. But the DJI has much better signal strength and interference rejection. I agree on your other points. For me tho, I don’t need timecode. And battery is only about a 10% difference in favor of the rode. Even with that, I still prefer the DJI, but that’s only because of MY needs. The rode is for sure better for those who need advanced audio needs
Bro, I'm trying to get an answer from you regarding the low pass filter, is it off or on for you? I've seen videos where it really changes the sound for the better if it's turned off. And thanks for the video(And you answered a previous video for me and I thought you would indicate in this video whether the low pass filter is indeed on or off, but you did not indicate this and it is probably interesting to many people after seeing videos that discussed it. It is a shame that no one made a comparison between the models after showing that it turns off the low pass filter)
Well, to be honest, the rode is better sounding. But Dji said they are fixing the issue. Anything brought going forward will have the fixes. So this time around, during the manufacturing process, i believe they are tweaking things
Thanks! Just download it from DJI website and then copy it to the root of the transmitter. Once you unplug it from the computer it will run the update itself
Can you use sync with waveform on your editor to solve that split file/drift problem? I use the Rode Wireless Go 2 and it splits the files every (I think) 30 minutes, and I ask Davinci Resolve to do all that work for me and it's quite easy. As far as I know, the splits are seamless though (if you put them back to back) so that might be different from DJI.
It’s not as good when getting it together with the OP3 because it is not compatible with other brands unless you buy all the junk that comes with the standalone package.
Rode sounds better until now. Check the new firmware v04.05.01.11. Now it sounds really nice. Not sure if better than Rode but muuuuuch better than before at least
He did, in fact, say the rode sounded better. Several times, actually. It's "the other stuff" that makes the DJI better. Though the sound from both is close to similar
Rode is made in Australia, DJI in China, I personally prefer not to buy anything chinese made when possible and when there's a similarly priced alternative.
I do not agree. I bought the DJI mic 2 and I thought the sound quality was awful with weird artifacts here and there. I quickly returned my order. From a sound quality standpoint the DJI is quite disappointing. The Rode is not head and shoulder better but it is better.
I have a Sennheiser MKE 2 Gold lav. I have tried it on both the DJI and the Rode. The Rode came out with a cleaner, fuller sound. With the DJI, it always seems like something is a little off. At the end of the day, you can get the same result with a little work in post but the Rode requires a lot less TLC than the DJI. For me that’s key. Keep up the good work and cheers my friend.

Sound wise a lot of people discovered that the DJI sounded worse because the low cut filter was on by default. Turn that off for a fuller sound.

After updating to the latest firmware, I'm really digging the sound quality of the DJI even more now.
The auto setting on the RODEs are so nice tho
For sure. Said this in the video! You gotta give credit where due!
Appreciate your deep-dive on the DJI Mic 2. Really enjoying the versatility of it!
Can just attaching a decent lav mic to your DJI transmitter bring the sound quality up to that of the Rode?

Absolutely 🫡
08:55 is incorrect, the Rode Wireless Go Pro also divides recordings into separate files every hour.
