Because she knew as a social worker that a parent react violently when something happens with their family wherein it involves physicality (beating and slapping) in public that's why she talked to the child when the father took a break, maybe she thinks that she's probably adding fuel to intensify the misunderstanding of both sides that's why she didn't join in the conversation. Social workers aren't diplomats to arrange the problem/conflict ongoing in the family/people hence, they counsel the group of people to give help establish a solution.

Father:"You didn't get a girl pregnant, did ya?" Son:"No dad, i'm gay" Father:"Oh, that's worse than accidentally adding another family member! You're not son anymore!"
It is worse, then adding another family member. If and when I have kids. I would rather them have a kid young. Then be gay. But I would never close them out. Or ignore them for it. But still, I mean like come just be straight or just hold it in and don’t tell me.
My daughter is gay and when my family didn’t accept that, we ended up making ourselves a new family. My daughters school is part of the gay - straight alliance and with help they got me custody of 3 girls who were being abused at home for being gay. One family attempted an exorcism to get the demon out of her! One has scars from trying to kill her self after her step father said she should do her mom a favor and die. The other one just came straight to my house from school and her family never looked for her. I now have 4 beautiful daughters all grown and living their best lives. I don’t care what body parts their partners have as long as they treat my girls with love and respect. Sending love and positive energy to anyone out there who needs it. You’re not alone, there are support groups and people who will love you just the way you are. Namaste 🙏🏻
Nikki Cooper This world needs more people like you! ❤️ Love is love, and love is not a choice. If God didn't want people to be gay, then he wouldn't have made then that way. I know this because I'm Catholic and went to church a lot as a little girl. I’m bi, but I haven't told anyone because I don't see the point to have to come out. I'm just going to live my life and get a boyfriend/girlfriend in high school. ❤️
Gah Deh Cornflakes thank you for your kind words. Coming out is a very personal decision and only you can decide what is best for you. I wish you true love, kindness and happiness. I know it can feel very lonely but the world is changing and accepting that we are all different and that’s okay. If we were all the same the world would be a boring place. Poru Santos that truly touches my heart. I believe Karma brought my girls to me so that I could learn and grow with them. Karma sees your kindness to a stranger and I hope you live a life full of love and happiness in return. I’m sending you love and positive energy. Namaste 🙏🏻
@Robot Rock yes, but it can put a pressure on young boys and teaches them toxic masculinity. It can at times reenforce the notion of "boys don't cry". If a boy is masculine that's fine, but no one should be ashamed just because they aren't all macho manny man.
@@carultch it’s just “gay” since it originally stems from an English word with a different meaning. It would be like if “Feliz” became a noun. There are slurs but they don’t have the same meaning.
@@carultch There really isn’t any other words for gay, but one may refer to a gay guy as “fruity”, “fruit cup” and a negative insult would be “faggot” but as in the actual word “gay” Itself, I only know of “Gay” and “Homosexual”
When I have children, if they are gay I don't want them to come out to me. I want them to just bring their partner home regardless of what gender they are and say hey mum, this is my partner/boyfriend/girlfriend or whatever. Straight people don't have to 'come out' and I don't see why gay or bi people should have to. Bring your partner to meet me, as long as they are a nice person, treat my kid right and they both like each other and have fun, I don't care what gender, colour or religion they are. My children's happiness and wellbeing always come first
Brandon it's more about just loving your children unconditionally and supporting them no matter what. As one of the men said in this video, there is worse things in the world. Suicide rates are so high amongst young people who are alone and not able to tell their family or have come out and their family have not been supportive, and that is just awful. I want my kids to be my kids, but also to be my friend and to understand they can tell me anything and I would be there supporting them and guiding them where needed. Hopefully as time goes on we will see that as times change, people attitudes and minds will open more. It also goes to any of my friends or even my future kids friends, if they are having a hard time, they would always have my support

I'm actually from South Texas right on the Border of Matamoros and Brownsville. Vice just did a documentary on the HIV crisis we're goin through right now in the Rio Grande Valley due to there bein a pretty significant gay scene down here. The reason I bring that up is cause I think that's why the Latin community is so against it. They just don't want their kids being attached to certain stigmas.

I like how the therapist made the point that the Dad needs to be "nurtured" too. You can't expect people to instantly unlearn on the spot beliefs that have been drilled into them their whole life. It takes time for people to evolve and people shouldn't be condemned for needing that time.
I do that all the time, haha. There are some things that sound better or are easier to say in one of the two languages. Like I'm not going to say No mames in English.

This episode actually almost made me cry. I came out to my parents January 2019 and they weren’t accepting and it sucks because honestly till this day I still don’t accept my self and I’m not confident enough to go out maybe find a guy I’m highly interested in and bring him home. Out of fear of what my parents and family (cousins aunts) May think
at the end of the day, you can't stay like this and remain miserable, you have to go and live your life and approach the guy you like. Your parents might be uncomfortable by it but honestly, it's your life, and if they love you they will love you regardless, they might not accept it initially but they will at some point. You are their son and the only difference is that you're gay so they have to love you. (or else se las van a ver conmigo)
Leslie Alanis that’s true, and as bad as it sounds I still go through that now. Like I’m not comfortable bringing anyone around all though they know I’m out. But thank you! Lol I’ll keep that in mind (se las van a ver con migo) ❤️
Edgar I know whats it like. I grew up in ireland in the 70s and 80s. It was hell. I wanted to kill myself. When I was at uni I realised that there was nothing wrong with me the problem was homophobia and i had internalised it. Homosexuality wasn't decriminalised until 1993. Stay strong brother. Everyone must be who they authentically are. Maybe try to find some support groups in your area. You could even find groups on the Internet. Being gay is a beautiful thing. If you learn to love yourself for who and what you are then the world is your oyster. There are some great gay social groups out there if you don't like the gay scene and it can be a good way to make friends. When i found the gay community in dublin many years ago it helped me feel not so alone. I wish you all the best.
To be honest ther are situations like this where you don't want to speak up because you feel like if you say the wrong thing you'll offend somebody and that is the worst reaction to have especially when a child or teen is being berated like that just for opening up on a situation that isn't necessarily easy to come to terms with or talk about
Yes .. me and my friend randomly walked into a dinner in NJ. Didn't know I was going to end up on a TV show :-) .. all good though .. it was meant to be
I don't watch the show but when I walked in I told Moises .. wow .. this place is so quiet it should be called a library and not a dinner. Then after we sat down and the Actors started I told Moises maybe we on Punk'd .. anyway .. when the father walked out it turned from me thinking it was a TV show to something real and so the conversation began .. I was just happy when the TV cameras did come out that it wasn't really happening as I know how all that feels with the emotions the kid was going thru that I went thru talking to my father

My dad literally started suspecting I was gay and told me one day "if you do turn like that I will kick you out". Then he went on and discouraged me talking on and on on how gays have it hard so that I shouldn't turn that way. But I don't get how he doesn't understand it's in my genetics. My boyfriend's problem wasn't that his parents wanted him to be masculine, they were just concerned about how his life would turn out because of the fact that he is lgbt and he comes from a very traditional Mexican family
It's so sad that people are made to feel like committing suicide is easier than living because of society not being accepting... I would be so devasteted and furious if someone I love would hurt themselves because some di**head told them they are "not valid".
Suicide should never be the option. But it's very hard. People commit suicide not because society didn't accept them but because even their family members didn't accept them. Everyone wants to be accepted. Acceptance is the most basic requirement for a living being. Even before love.

“I raised you as a man, not to like a man.” (Quote from the video) That hit too close to home for me, unfortunately. I am a lesbian and I have a gay friend. I was there when he came out to his parents for moral support and a helping hand if things didn’t go well. His father actually said that. Now he’s living with me and my sister (I live with my sister because I needed to distance myself from my parents, homophobic jokes were made by my dad regularly, I didn’t know if they were jokes or not though) and I’m so happy to see him thriving after leaving that house. I don’t care what your gender, sexuality, identity is. Just don’t be rude or offensive to anybody who identifies differently. God, that comment was long but I’m very happy to say that my friend is now living a happy healthy life!

The gay black man is right... coming out isn’t for anyone but yourself. Not only are my parents Latino but they are religious and we know the ignorance that comes from that. Not knowing what my parents would do or say to me I just felt I had to come out to them. I felt the biggest relief even though my family didn’t accept it at the moment. It took some time for them to accept me (sort of). But I’m going to be honest, they will never accept it. They will never understand it. But they will come to realization that you will always be their child no matter who you are, flaws and all.
I will forever love my only child and as she grows if one day she comes out I'll love her unconditionally no matter what she wants be/who she is because she's still my daughter regardless of her gender identity or sexuality. LivingDeadGirl Melissa it's nice to know that there are parents who would accept their children coming out. I'm pansexual and Mexican and when I came out to my mom she didn't really understand. I also told my grandma and she seemed to be ok with it, but then I heard both of them talking about me saying, "Oh I'm worried about Mari" immediately I got into the conversation and they said something along the lines of "Oh you say your pansexual and we worry you might change religion" I could not believe what they were saying. they also told me that I'm too young, that I'm confused. I'm 16 and in that moment I really wanted to cry, i really thought they would truly accept me. Right now everything is ok since we never discussed it again. Sometimes I feel trapped. I'm just glad that your child has such an amazing mother like you.
AM-PM Cuber excuse me? I’m bisexual. I am real. I’m not some fictional character or something. I can date my same sex, but I am NOT GAY. I am bisexual and proud of it. I'm also not half gay and half straight; I am 100% bisexual. You don’t think of purple as half red and half blue, do you? No. I would appreciate it if you could leave the LGBT community alone
I came out to my father at 18 and he practically disowned me. We had a rough relationship before and especially after I came out. It took YEARS of me moving away and living my own life with only a polite and tangential relationship with my father through other family members and brief conversations about small talk. Finally, a couple years ago when I was visiting for the holidays, he told me how happy he was for me that I was living the life I wanted to and how he missed me. He never apologized and it was clear he still had a big level of uncomfortableness with me being gay but I know how hard it was for him to even get as far as he did in accepting me. To all the children out there struggling to come out to parents, I say do it in your own time, when you are ready but know that no matter how difficult the outcome may be that it’s important to stay true to yourself and your own personal happiness. To all the parents out there I say, please know that this isn’t a choice for your children and it may be difficult for you to reconcile with but your kid loves you and wants you in their life which is why they are telling you. My father passed away from cancer 2 years ago and although I wish we could have had a stronger relationship, I am grateful for what I had with him by the end.
I've son who's 10, and if someday it turns out that he's gay, I would tell him that I love him no matter who he is, and I would support him always, because I love him, and it's only up to him to decide how to live his own life
I read the title and my first thought was Son: I'm gay Dad: no Son: yea I am Dad: no you aren't, I don't believe in the "gay" Thank you for reading my comment and wasting your time
I was lucky. My family accepted me pretty much from day one. My father basically said, "Well, I don't condone it. But, I don't condemn it either. You're still my son, and I love you. I just want you to be careful and be happy!" BOOM! SHOCKED!
I'm happy for you :-) This is how parenting should be. We may not agree with everything our kids do, but we love them and be there for them regardless.
I am gay and I never really came out to my family, I guess they knew ever since. And I remember one time I asked my mother why wouldn’t she ask and confirm me if I was gay or get mad if I was gay because that’s what the initial reactions of most parents when their kid comes out. What she said was really overwhelming, she told me she wanted me to be who I am and to do whatever I want to do because she didn’t want a dead son. None of my parents hated me being gay, I never came out but they already accepted me the way I am ever since I was a kid.

My friend at school came out to us in the lunch hall. He sat down and looked so nervous. He took a deep breath and blurted it out. We all looked at him and said “yeah honey we know, we’ve always known.” And he broke down. The fear he had to come out to us was so palatable, coming out to a parent must be so much harder
I think I know now how I would react if I ever have a gay son or daughter... To both I would be ok with it, but I promised myself to make the following jokes: If its a son: Son its ok, but when you get married; that man is getting your name! Also, first kid you adopt gets named after me. If its a daughter: Huh... I guess your mom owes me 50 bucks. Which are gonna be spend on the "Thank god you are not pregnant party!"

I’m Puerto Rican and came out to my parents and I’m grateful that they’re supportive and accept me for who I am
“The latino culture is often recognized for being machismo.” If this ain’t the truth I-
@Robot Rock yes, but it can put a pressure on young boys and teaches them toxic masculinity. It can at times reenforce the notion of "boys don't cry". If a boy is masculine that's fine, but no one should be ashamed just because they aren't all macho manny man.

My children's happiness and wellbeing always come first
Jen Shaw amen!
Jen Shaw 👌🏼👌🏼👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Out of fear of what my parents and family (cousins aunts) May think
edgar perez stay strong man 💕💕
at the end of the day, you can't stay like this and remain miserable, you have to go and live your life and approach the guy you like. Your parents might be uncomfortable by it but honestly, it's your life, and if they love you they will love you regardless, they might not accept it initially but they will at some point. You are their son and the only difference is that you're gay so they have to love you. (or else se las van a ver conmigo)

I've son who's 10, and if someday it turns out that he's gay, I would tell him that I love him no matter who he is, and I would support him always, because I love him, and it's only up to him to decide how to live his own life
Big Bosseseses

Salty?
I want my son to be a man
Not a stupid useless gay
GYM Life can I ask what you mean by “useless gay”
Nico Garcia
I think i was very clear by saying "useless gay"
Someone that doesn't have any value
(if not negative value)
GYM Life why don’t that have value? Let’s say they’re serving our country, do they still have no value at that point?
I read the title and my first thought was
Son: I'm gay
Dad: no
Son: yea I am
Dad: no you aren't, I don't believe in the "gay"
Thank you for reading my comment and wasting your time

- "How dare you tell me you're GAY!!!!"
Every parents ever
I was lucky. My family accepted me pretty much from day one. My father basically said, "Well, I don't condone it. But, I don't condemn it either. You're still my son, and I love you. I just want you to be careful and be happy!" BOOM! SHOCKED!
I'm happy for you :-)
This is how parenting should be. We may not agree with everything our kids do, but we love them and be there for them regardless.
That guy at the end brought me to tears. His words were so beautiful just like him!

The last one touched my heart♥
Thank you Elidh
Me too. I thought, "I want to be his friend".
Im blessed having two loving parents of me and my twin brother being gay. My parents are amazing human beings
Pod it's common for twins to have the same sexuality.
Lets change my user name again A sexuality comes from a gene so if they are Twins, chances are high that they have the same gene
Dancing pineapple there is no proof that sexuality is a result of a gene.
Barney stinson? Lol jk
Eww
I think I know now how I would react if I ever have a gay son or daughter... To both I would be ok with it, but I promised myself to make the following jokes:
If its a son: Son its ok, but when you get married; that man is getting your name! Also, first kid you adopt gets named after me.
If its a daughter: Huh... I guess your mom owes me 50 bucks. Which are gonna be spend on the "Thank god you are not pregnant party!"
Naxo this is the best thing i have ever seen
Person Thanks👍👍👍
