I would react the same way the parents did.
I once dated a wealthier girl, and her parents were cool but I could tell they didn't think I was good enough for their daughter, and quite frankly, I understood why they felt that way, and I thought it was okay, they weren't rude or anything but definitely always felt like they forced being nice to me.
Ultimately, I think as a parent you always want your kids to be happy, and we perceive poor people as struggle and unhappiness, which is somewhat true.

I had this happen to me with a friend. I will never forget being told by the girl 'mom says I can't play with you anymore. You're poor and lower class than I am.' My husband is a maintenance worker, and I'm a custodian. We don't have much right now, but, we're happy together. @@natashalopez3859 It's not just his appearance though. You can tell a lot about someone based on how they present themselves. There's nothing wrong with working a blue-collar job, but the fact that he didn't bother to bring nicer clothes or groom himself a bit suggests that he is perfectly content with not striving for better in terms of his future, career, relationship, etc. Also, when you show that little of concern with making a good first impression, it doesn't really give the parents much incentive to do so either.
