So I am very new to Ark (only 2 weeks) and got to a point where I needed honey and I happen to live in a treehouse in the redwoods... I did not spend any points to learn ghillie suit so I had to come up with a way to get a queen without it... using crossbow I shot at various hives until I found one where bees came out... I made about a dozen pillars and ceilings and ladders and made a simple "scaffold" to get up to the hive... once I got up there I added a few ceilings and some window walls and basically "boxed" around the hive... using crossbow I shot through the open window at the hive until the hive broke and the queen came out... she was trapped and surprisingly she couldn't fly out the window so I just stood there and fed her a few rare flowers until tamed.... didn't get any drones... didn't get stung... didn't have to chase queen all over creation.... worked like a charm.
On solo this is brilliant. On servers...Yea it'd be best to destroy the structure afterwards. Otherwise you make yourself a prime target for aggression lol.
bring a platform saddle diplo or paracer. have the platform include a ramp that goes from almost ground level to as high as possible. now your bear can reach those hard-to-get hives :)
Even if you have ghille on ever time you open your own bed hive you will loose some health. I had my health at 200 and I couldn't open up all 10 of my bee hives or else I would have killed my player.
My favorite base spot on the island is the bug cliff between blacksands and the redwoods I start with a tree platform that lowers itself through a massive ramp all the way to the cliff on the other side then I gate it off and use it as my main base almost indefinitely. It's in the middle of everything, I always end up with an ovis or 5 because if the black sands and I'm near the best rex spawning so I get a good selection of the levels and tames. Only real draw back is I can't start my base till tree platform until then I live on a raft sailing the edges hunting for decent tames.
When opening your bee hives, you don't need a ghillie suit. All you need is bug spray. I was wearing full hide/chitin with bug spray on when opening my hives on single player and I wasn't being attacked.
Can't you check hives from a distance with a spyglass i think i remember doing that but also if you walk up next to the hive you can hear if there is a queen or not before you crack it open.
There are a few low-placed hives on the Island too, just not in the redwoods. They're in odd places like lying in the grass in a boulder field in the central highlands, and on the side of a ledge above water near the green obelisk. I'm sure there are others, but I've already found those two. Easy reach, easy tame.
heh you really really really like trying to go into the hardest parts of the island to do these things don't you. South 1 starter area, cross the water to your left as you spawn. up the hill with cliff right and woods left, there are usually 2 or 3 beehives right there.
I tamed a level 1 bee really easy when I found a hive close to the ground I just used my deinonychus to spam attack the hive and bees that come out and none could sting me then I just snuck closer to the queen after the nest broke with gillie and I didn’t have to use any bug repellent and it only took one flower.
Fun little tid bit to help anyone else out.... If you shoot or hit the hive and nothing comes out then it's empty (no queen bee). So you only need to hit the hive once to know if there's a queen in it!
Not if there are multiple stacks of hives. You May have to break a few before bees start coming out. SO....just listen for the annoying queen bee sound. Then you know you are in the right spot
You don't need to worry about the bees nest being high up on aberration I based almost right next to a beehive which means I don't need to break it open and every 15 minutes it gives 5 honey so it's a good deal
I don't need to tame a queen bee because a bees nest spawned a minutes traval with a ravager or rapter I'm just trying to find a use to tame one other then easier honey collection
As usual, another great and helpful Basics video. My favorite place to gather honey is along the south shore of the Island near an area called the Footpaw (76.4, 38.1 general co-ordinates). There are layered rock cliffs along the west side of the small cove there. I can usually find 5-7 hives along the cliffs most of which are accessible with minimal climbing.
the CRAZY thing about the honey spoil timer is that honey is one of the only substances known to man that does NOT SPOIL!!! You can eat 10,000 year old honey!
Am I the only one who can't craft the new kibble? I have all the ingredients in my cooker and then some but the game refuses to craft it, what am I doing wrong? Or is this just a problem with console? Do I have to reset my single player world, because my single player world was around long before the new kibble system was added. I dunno hopefully someone can tell me.
@@giggidyxgooxga i hope WC fix this problem soon as possible, btw i have on my singleplayer world a male 130 giga in the ragnarok desert and also a female 150 giga on the higlands. I feel soo lucky XD

I've found wyverns are best for breaking the hives, bugs don't aggro against the wyverns so you can quickly and easily munch through them and they can reach any of them.
Given your experience with some of the settings of ARK, do you know if there's anything that could be preventing the spawning of Beehives, or Queen Bees? I'm on Extinction and I thought I was just really unlucky with positioning so I downloaded Larkator, which had a number of giant bee spawns but when I teleported to them there were no hives. I'm running an unofficial server but there aren't any mods except for building and breeding. Any ideas?
Where is this glorious location of a base? I need to move more towards the middle of the Island. I am on the far West side and spend too long flying around. Cheers! Your videos help me so much.

Level 20 you can craft cryopods. And unless I'm wrong the Whistle call grapple hook method still works to tame queztals. It's possible on a pteranadon but use an argy. A good easy trap to use is 5 stone dino gates 1 door at the entrance and a slightly off center pillar in the last gate. Slightly space the gates. It builds what is known as a birdcage. You can also do it with 4 gateways 12 pillars 1 reinforced door and ceilings placed on the pillars that are 3 high. If you're having trouble following your tame whistle attack target and then passive when needed
The only reason I'm here is to learn where these stupid bugs spawn so I can avoid them... I have a reaaaaaaaaaaaally big fear of bees... For some reason the hive scares me the most but point bein I'm horrified of em...
